Leak Of Specific Percentages In Negotiations Signal Us That End To Lockout Is Near

I think we are going to see an end to the NFL lockout in the next two or three weeks. The fact that concrete numbers have surfaced, let’s us know there are serious talks taking place. Notice you also don’t have names of owners or negotiators from the players side surfacing. The focus is on getting a deal done and not getting the upper hand on public relations.

ESPN reports, “Under the new formula being negotiated, players will receive 48 percent of all revenue and will never dip below a 46.5 percent take of the money, sources said.”

The owners will no longer get the first billion dollars of revenue. The players agreed to lower their percentage of revenue and the teams will be required to spend nearly all of their salary cap monies on players. You won’t have a big disparity between teams who spend right up to the cap and teams which like the Bengals and Bills who are far from it.

The league is going to be forced to do something about the tremendous difference between the big market teams and the small market teams. It’s important that the teams develop a strategy to keep the small market teams healthy.

I’m very optimistic about the way this thing is going. If an owner wanted to shoot the negotiations down and slow down the process they would simply leak something negative and a great deal of guessing would start by the people who cover the NFL about which owner put the information out there.

Look at these rich Pricks….. Jerry Jones tossing back some geritol!!!!! ……. Now they wanna break bread…… Putting the fans through an emotional rollercoaster with all this saga……. He probably has prunes in his plate with a side of applesauce with some cream of wheat…….. It’s good for the bowels…..

I hope this deal gets going asap……. Look guys where in for some sloppy football this season…….. Players running the wrong routes and not knowing plays…….. Especially the rookies who are going to struggle for the most part especially the young Qb’s……. I know Andrew Luck is laughing his ass off now!!!!!

@Stevo…… The NFL players are like rich soldiers……… They put their bodies and lives on the line……. Yes the players are part of the blame……. But its mainly the owners who are at fault…….. the 4 billion dollar scandal just makes you think that greed is on the owners mind since day uno…….. Thats why I side with the players more than the owners……. A bunch of Bernie Madoff’s and Jerry Jones is one of the front runners…….

Look at the careers of players who are ESPN 30/30 and half of them are living in prison/shelters/ or are on the street with severe mental issues……. Half of them passed away with suicide or have real depression when it’s all said and done….. All you’ll here after a players passes on is the actual Owner with all his brain cells still in his head saying he was a good player……… But they forget to add he made me a ton of money in the process……. The owners are shady……. Thats why some of the players are lashing out to their own bosses…….. Its business…….. Thats what they say the nfl is…….. But its personal when you are a player and you dont remember your own kids or cant walk because of you putting your body on the line but Jerry Jones is playing golf in Mexico with George W. Bush…… Than it becomes personal!!!!!

Greed is only on the owners? The players sued the owners.
As far as being “rich soldiers”- its a job. They can stop anytime they want.

Both are to blame for this.greed is resting on both.

I lean towards the owners because they at least have been trying to get a deal since day 1.

@Stevo…… A deal done in their own favor…….. 4 billion dollars…… People seem to forget about that…….. 18 games in a season and concussions are at an all time high……. I’ve never seen that many concussions ever in a season……. NFL is a dangerous sport beside drag racing……. I say 60/40 and the owners are at the 60 mark……..

paulman

The Reason for the upsurge in Concussions is that most DB’s in the Secondary now tackle with the heads/helmets first as opposes to sound fundamental tackling with your arms/shoulders.. Players look for to get on the “highlight segfemts” on SPorts shows about the big Blow-up hits.. Also, players, teams and doctors are more aware of the Concussion which is why we hear about more of them.. They’be always occurred, but many times went untreated, undiagnosed and players didn’t want to miss games so they were not as open to volunteer about about their side effects in fear of looking “soft” or losing their playing time/starters role…

What’s odd about what. Are saying is that the NFLPA* has done less for THOSE players than the owners have. As the late Gene Upshaw said “we don’t represent those guys”,

Paulman called for 52-48 revenue split between Owners/Players 3 months ago
18 game schedule is simply a bargaining tool right now, but probably in 2 years will become a reality, a shortened Pre-season schedule, less off-season OTA’s, Rosters expanded, Practice squads increases, Rookie Wage scale and players being able to become Free-agents after 3 Seasons of Service in the NFL..
Paulman could have had this “CBA” in place back by March 15th if I was Commissioner or King of the World…

My last post had a period in ther not intended. Good luck undertsnading what I was trying to say.

But- Jroc, please explain this to me.. The players want more safety for head concussions… Owners and coaches put in rule changes and then the players say its “flag football” and yet they complain that the owners are “slave owners” and don’t care about their health.

@Stevo…… Thats just some of the defensive players in the NFL…….. Look bottom line a freak accident can happen and a players career can be ended at any given moment……. It happens……. But my thing is that fining players 100,000 dollars and their salary is the league minimum is just plum rock greed……. They should suspend the player instead…… That hurts the team more than anything…….. And perhaps the player can learn from his mistake during the suspension……. Big hits have been going on for years now……. Smelling salt is not going to cut it now in days……….

so- should the guy who hit Djax last season have been suspended? It was ugly but not really clear if it was what he wanted to do. Its not all black and white…. cant suspend everyone. and besides….. that has nothing to do with whos at fauly over this contract right now.

For me….

I dont care who is at fault or who gets paid or whatever. I want football!!! here are a few things ive noticed that tick me off though…

1) Owners have had a deal on the table and the players would not even talk for months. @jroc- yes… the deal leaned toward owners… just like the last deal leaned to the players.

2) Very shady for the owners to deal wit the TV people the way they did. They should lose money over thaat.

3) Dsmith is a BUM!! what do you expect when a lawyer is hired?

4) All this “slave” talk is crap. As a white man…. i HATE what was done to slaves….. im ashamed of what happened… but….. this is NOT THAT!! Players can walk away anytime. They get paid alot of money because its a big sacrifice on your health.

5) Most of what ive seen has the retired players supporting the owners. Thats CRAZY and says alot.

6) Im soooooo glad this mess is almost over.

jroc – if an accident happens and a players (football) career is ended at any given moment, than they can apply for a regular job (or get training/schooling first) and be downgraded to the horrible fate of a ‘regular human being in the world’. That would be unfortunate, but it’s nothing to gripe about. Gotta keep perspective guy…

Does anyone realize that about the average NFL Career lasts about 4.5 Years which is pretty close what the average career of Our US Military Servicepoeple.. .Does anyone hear them crying about the choice they made to join or serve or the crappy pay, living conditions, real stress and trauma that they have to deal with (even after done serviing..) Let’s keep these Sports/Athletes in proper perpspective, It’s entertainment, plain and simple, and means very little in the grand scheme of things…Make the most $$$ while you can, which is the American way of life anymore .. .

@Stevo…. You really believe that all the money goes to charity…….. Come on Stevo…… the same guys who had that hush 4billion dollars going in their pockets….. This is america stevo………

If a guy has a bunch of head hunting penalties they should be fined and then eventully suspended……. And yes it does have something to do with the contracts…….. The players are looking at it in the health aspect…….. Getting proper treatment during and after football……. All this saga has ties to do with everything on whats going on……..

@Shiller……. Hey Shiller u forgot about Dave Duerson?????? A guy who guinea piged himself so they can do research his brain……. The same with former WR Chris Henry who fell off the back of a pick up and could have lived if he didnt have so much head contact through out his career…….. Come on SHlLL…… These guys are human beings not robots!!!!!

But thats their jobs which is true…….. They chose that profession to make us cheer…….. And love them for what they do for the sport……. Well the same rule applies in the NFL…….. They should get proper treatment for the future as well!!!!

jroc- i hope you understand that its the “competion commitee” that controls all that. so yes…. every drop.

about the “hush” money- BOTH sides were working on leveradge leading up to the lockout. Both sides were trying to stack the odds.

More on suspentions and fines. The biggest problem is that a guy who makes 500k that gets fined 20k for a hit gets penalized more than his teammate who makes 5million this year and got the same fine. This is not about that man!!!

about the players you mentioned……… they did not have to play the game!! they could have walked away at any time. DO you think they both didnt realize this was bad for their health? My dad has smoked cigs since he was 12…… he told me that LONG before they put the warnings out and did all the adds that he knew it was bad for him. He CHOSE to do it anyway. only difference here is that Chris Henry made MILLIONS.

jroc- do you not understand that the owners have been trying to do MORE for the former players than the NFLPA has?? do you understand that currently the owners want to do MORE testing for steroids and things so they can get the game even cleaner and protect the players??? Do you understand that the owners have tried to protect the players MORE with the rules they have put into place??

Im not fooling myself and trying to say that the owners are doing all this out of kindness…. BUT the fact remains….. they ARE DOING MORE!!!

Jroc – I’ve heard of the brain trauma anecdotes and studies, and it’s terribly toubling and should be factored into all of this. And I agree that the medical benefits are vital to be included in this – long term, and for retirees too. But I don’t think that a player should sit on his ass for the rest of his life once his NFL career is over. If he still needs money in his 30s and 40s, he should work, not bill his former employer.

Problem is that Football players have been fottball since they were 12-13 years old and many athletes (especially the inner-city kids) never really learn other skills off t hefootball field or took advantage of choosing a outside profession course of study while in College.. These players are the ones we read about being broke, poor, addicted to drugs and alcohol when they at 40 years old.. Once their playing days are over, their entrouages leave them, their hangers-on find another athlete to sponge off and may players (and especially successful ones) are embarrased to ask for help or admit that they did a poor job of planning for the future or were always surrounded by many yes-men, that they beegin to think they are entitled to whatever they want since they been told and in an atmsophere of how “great” they are most of their lives…. then when reality hits and all the handlers are gone, it’s only them and many have struggled with the transition of athlete with the $$, adoration and glory to a regular life style…

You said it STEVO! No more fake payments to Reno Mahe to fill out the cap & carry over payments for the next year. The Gold Standard, are going to have to show, they truly are, who they say they are. They’re going to have true competition now. They better spend alot & wisely.

@Shiller….. I can agree on a player sitting on his ass and collecting a check……. No argument there………

@Stevo…….. The NFL made the most money ever in a season in 2010 and you mean to tell me that the OWNERS were prepared for an NFL lockout……. So that tells me that they had this brewing for quite sometime…… D. Smith is nothing more than a puppet on a string and Gene upshaw would have had this thing going in a better manner……. yes the owners have done more to protect the players and steriod usage investigations as well…… But the players have the right to debate on their careers….. Now and future wise….. This is america and people have the right to negotiate…… But at the end of the day….. All I hear players and owners say……. “Its just business”!!!

@Stevo…… why do we watch commercials and the player has on their jersey without their name on the back??????? but in the stores we can purchase the jersey in a sports store or on-line……..

@Stevo……. Smoking Cigars isnt a career move!!!! Playing a sport that you love is a career move perhaps a life changing move i might add…… Depending on how the individual makes it…….. How can someone WALK AWAY from that???? 9-5 or 5-9 MILLION…….. U pick…… And we’ll see which one you’ll choose……. People have talents of all such……. If you have better talents in elsewhere than so be it……. Who cares what tax bracket an individual is on…. People are people at the end of the day…….

This season is about to begin finally, tomorrow will be day 100 of the lockout, it shouldnt have gotten this far but there are alot of egos involved and greedy billionare men who were uncooperative… in a situation like this between players and owners usually its the players that are getting the short end of the stick and are getting cheated in someway or another… As owners they deserve the money they get but what needed to be taken into account are the efforts the players make yr in and out putting there lives on the line for these organizations, so this current deal from the looks of it seems pretty fair for both sides i just wished it didnt get this far simply over ego and greed…

Jerry Jones is best friends with George W. Bush Jr……… The owners won their appeal with a 2-1 favor….. So you mean to tell me Stevo that Jerry Jones had connections to make this thing happen……… I believe if I’m not mistaken the judges were republican judges……. And that when the ruling was for the players the doors were still locked after what the judge had ruled in the players favor????? Here’s the conversation in progress!!!!!

Goodell…… “Got Damn it the players won the ruling to stop the lockout”!!!!!
Jerry Jones….. “We’ll appeal this damn ruling”!, “I got connections dont worry Goodell”!….. “These SOM Bitches wont see the DAMN FIELD”!
Goodell…… “Call the Puppet (D. Smith) and tell him he F@$%ed up now”!
Jerry Jones…… “Dont worry”, “like I said them som bitches wont see the damn field”!!!!!!

Owwww yea…… The owners are crooked Stevo…… Who tells the judge to hold their horses on what the judge orders…….. Money is power!!!!! I know me you or the players couldnt do such!!!!

@Stevo…… You can take a player out of the streets….. But you cant take the street out of a player……. Thats why theres a big brother/veteran player who keeps an eye out for troubled players…… And yes everyone is human and make mistakes….. Players are just like you and me….. They drink have fun play madden and blogg on line just like we do…….

Jerry Jones talks about players just like we do…… Remember his Tim Tebow Rant about him not seeing the damn field rant…….. He’s an owner but he’s human just like u and I……. It’s called being a MAN…….. We have our likes and differences…… but what u and i have in common is that our team dont have a superbowl trophy…….. Where men….. Owners and players both are dicks at the end of the day….. The same way we debate on this website….. Its in our dna to be dicks…….. Dick is Richard for short for what reason IDK……. LOL….. Just had to add that in for what reason IDK!!!!

I think this lockout could end tomorrow but the league is allowing teams to get all of there team organized activities in order, training camp, contract offers for the players that are FAs etc etc… but tmr will be day 100 of this lockout and the league realizes that this was a blackeye for the nfl and certainly has lost many fans over this… I think they thought the players would eventually give in to the pressure of the situation. And that never happen, they stood there ground and they seem to have gotten the deal they wanted or close to it…
