Report: Vince Young Signs With The Eagles

Clark Judge of CBS Sports reports via twitter Vince Young has signed with the Eagles to back-up Michael Vick. Young threw 10 touchdowns and 3 interceptions in 2010. The acquisition of Young gives the Eagles a legitimate back-up option behind Vick.

Young is 31-17 as a starter in his career but with his talent comes his baggage, in 2008 the Tennessee Titans had to call police when Young’s therapist told then head coach Jeff Fisher that Young mentioned suicide several times before driving away from his home with a gun.

If the Eagles are able to rejuvenate Vince Young’s career who knows maybe he will follow the root of former Eagle backup quarterbacks and turn into a future second round pick for the Eagles.

The Eagles were once an organization that shied away from players with baggage issues, I guess after the hell Terrell Owens put them through in 2005 they feel have their masters degree in handling head case players. Perhaps if they had this attitude back in 1998 Randy Moss would have enjoyed a nice long career as an Eagle, or in 1995 Warren Sapp would have been nice in Eagle Green. At any rate, the front office now takes risk on players, and I like it.

Better than Kafka in experience but will the baggage be overwhelming?

Say it isn’t so… I don’t like this Signing personally , but I hope he proves me wrong and comes to camp (Aug 4th) ready to work, focues,in shape and ready to learn and play up to his potential, which is enormous and this Eagle QB Friendly system should be a good fit for his athleticism, the key is for him to get into the playbook and learn, absorb, sponge the Terminology,Formations,Pass protecions,Hot reads,Opponents tendancies, etc, etc which VY has shown is not one of his strengths..but I as an Eagle Fan will give him every opportunity to succeed for if VY improves and earns his playing time and becomes a good Back-UIp, then the Eagles become a better team and maybe he could be of Trade Value a year or 2 down the Road as Kafka progresses..

wow – now as I was posting earlier today – sit back, relax and enjoy the ride – back up QB, check, starting RCB, check, 2nd rd draft pick for next year, check, a pro bowl DE opposite Cole – check – 10 of 11 draft picks signed (I’ll wait for the 11th )

Today is a great day for our Philadelphia Eagles.
We got that other defensive end we needed.
We got that other cornerback we needed.
And we got the backup quarterback we needed, all in a day’s work.

I know most of you would like to turn your attention to the linebacking core, and you might be right, but I am a little bummed that Tyson Clabo resigned with the Atlanta Falcons. One, we have to play against him (it will actually be Jason Babin), and secondly, he is a major upgrade over Winston Justice. Perhaps, Howard Mudd can help the line out as a whole, but I would love to get a new starting blindside blocker for MV7!

Just got a text from Jay Glazer (it’s his Twitter update), Darren Sproles has just signed with the New Orleans Saints. They now have 50 running backs on their roster. Well, they found their Reggie Bush replacement, on 3rd downs and special teams. Maybe a little slot too, you never know with Sean Payton.

But yes, I do love everything we have done thus far.
I would like to get a RT and a LB, and in that order!

The actual article this refers too does not say that the eagles have announced that this is official and it is a bit suspect as the reporter speculated this as many have months ago.

I like the move if it happens as VY has talent in gobs and if he follows the Vick path the eagles will be in a stronger position to barter a deal with vick mid season. They would also have the ability to continue the Andy Reid QB’s to draft picks factory. AR’s ability to coach QB’s may still be his best attribute. (Farve,Mcnabb,Vick,Kolb…VY?)

To RegalEagle,
Please note big change for players and teams who denote a player a “Franchise Tag’ The player and team have until to Spet 20th to sign a new deal. Once Sept 20th passes, the team and player are stuck at that Francised average Salary number for the remainder of the Season and cannot negoitiate a deal until after the Season is over and then the player technically becomes a Free-Ageant is free to make a deal with any other club and the other new part of the rule is that a Player Can only be Franchised once in his Career and not multiple times like in the past, so basically if the Eagles don’t sign Vick by Sept 20th, He will become a true Free-agent and free to make a deal with any other club which would only increase his value and salary demands (barring an injury or poor season) so they better sign him quick and get the deal done..

To be clear, clark Judge reported this, than moments later slightly went back on his statement and called it “a virtual certainty ” because the Titans havn’t officially released Young, but when he is cut, he will be an Eagle…

Paulman- That is correct. I still have my worries about vick as the long term guy as he is a short scrambler over 30 but also very exciting. Exciting is what gets him crushed by other teams though. Unless they need the cap space (remember there is a floor) I could see the eagles leaving vick to earn his Franchise Tag money untill mid season or playoffs in order to meet the cap floor for this year artificially and save some extra cap space next year after signing vick long term sometime in late october. I just think that they might just want to see another half season given his down trend at the end of last year.

The eagles might support a number change with a new deal for Djax as it would mean more jersey sales. (again 98% kidding)

But the Eagles can’t sign him to any deal after Sept 20th Regal..
The Eagles can’t wait a 1/2 Season to feel good and ready and 100% that he’s their man and wait until Oct/November to start negoitiating for it will be too late and not allowed after Sept 20th.. ..

Focus on the LB – I will go on record as saying Mike McGlynn was an absolute beast at RT for the Pitt Panthers – 4 year starter – can long snap also – he had a decent year at center – he went about 315 last year – if Jackson can reclaim center – McGlynn is a very viable option at RT –

This makes even more sense as VY can be the #3 guy early on and still come in in some packages without penalty under the new rules.

Anyone notice how the Houston Texans have beefed up their Defense under new DC W Phillips
They have M Williams, A Smith, S Cody and A Okoye along the DL with Draft Picks in JJ Watt and OLB Pass Rusher Brooks Reed to go along with LB’s B Cushing, D Ryans, X Adibi, and then they add ed CB J Joseph with high pick K Jackson from 2010 Draft along with 2 CB’s drafted early in this years in Brandon Harris from Miami and R Carmichael from Va Tech and then Safeties E Wilson, Pollard (Free-agent) and Q Demps..

This team could be one to watch out for

Babin’s contract only has 5-7 guaranteed money. Basically pocket change to what charles johnson got. EaglesCap had him as a 6 million cap hit for this year..The eagles have about 20 mill in cap space left to spend (not counting what their giving VY)

Good..Now llet’s get Tullock in here…The Eagles signed Young and it only took a few “Nickles”….

These Eagles are pretty thrifty.

They got Vick on the cheap and used a public relations machine that paid t’s weight in Gold now they get a better Back up than Kolb for a few Shekels.

Now let’s see if they cu…”I said it”
Cut Winston Justice slow ass…He’s slow and can not use his hands.

They need to cut him and get a Stud for Vick’s blindside…Justice is a serious liability.

And they need to sign Tullock.

If they do this then I concede that the shekel hoarders are for real

Congradulations to the Eagles front office. I have my issues with Crystal Ball Andy, but he an Marty may be the best QB coaches in the league. If anyone can deal with Vince Young its them. Which would make this pick up Awesome.

The deal with the Cardinals was lopsided in the Eagles favor. Babin already knows the defense and should be a beast. I never understood why they did not play him more when he was here.

I said last year that Andy was in trouble and these altra aggressive moves shows a sense of urgency that he has never shown to this degree in the past.

Yes he was trying. But not hard enough. This is aggressive and smart. Low risk high return. I critisize the front office for their bafoonery.

I applaud them for the effort they are putting forth now. That’s all I ever asked. Give it everything you’ve got.

The Eagle fans sure have.

Really songs – based upon VY outstanding performances in the roll while in Tennessee – or the fact they both have roughly the same QB rating or the same int/td ratio – or just another reach down, grap and pull to you hear a popping noise info?

I will give my son the credit for this one – VY is a brilliant move becuase it allows the Eagles to set and run one offense, and if a QB gets hurt, the back-up has the same skill set – diffretn then 1 set for Kolb, 1 for Vick. Young is a righty but for the most part the same strong arm, mobile running threat – Young may be a newer model Vick – Young also has a lot of the same QB issue (work ethic, film study, being a leader) that Vick did – now Vick can return the favor that McNabb did for him and teach him what it means to be an NFL QB.

win-win here.

Under new leauge rules you can bring an extra quaterback on the field at any time for trick plays and formations. you no longer have to keep one as a emergancy, you acn bring them all on the field if you wanted. and knowing Andy Reid he will find a way to get them both on the field at the same time to confuse a defense.

this is what im talking about…PROGRESS.. Eagles are moving like an aggressive FO right now…. Sign a Lb and a Rt and lets go get it…

they also need to deal with Desean Jackson’s issue.. the money he makes is pathetic… Holding out seems pointless (except for the injury bug) but I guess he wants to make his displeasure known

This will be a strong test for Vince Young! I think the combination of Reid and Vick will keep him under control. Also Young will be on the bench. If Young was brought in as the starter then I would question this and his mental toughness. I think he has an opportunity to sit back and learn how to mature and deal with the vultures in the media. — tightmadness

Yeah songs (hey agreement between me and Songs) Young WAS a pro-bowler (though that apparently doesn’t matter to you in the case of DRC and Babin, but hey its a new day and time for you to step all over your other posts) –

but Young was a pro bowler in 2006 and 2009 – and last year was a turd that got released, let go, becuase of his unprofessionalism –

funny – someone gets released as a salary cap casualty – the Eagles are collecting garbage – players get fined, benched, demoted traded for 5th rd DPs or released – great finds….

lets see – VY released – great find – Kolb traded for a starting RCB and a 2nd rd DP – he’s ass…………………….

babin – pro-bowl last year – he’s nothing – Haynesworth – benched and couldn’t pass fitness test – Belicheck is brilliant

got to remember – never argue with idiots – they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience

God, you guys will do anything to convince yourselves of something. VY=terrible. The only good thing about this deal is that it wasn’t Brett Favre.
