Somebody Give Samuel A Hug, But Don’t Trade Him

If you read Asante Samuel’s comments you would think that he might be wanting to leave town, but once you hear the tape of what he said you will realize that he didn’t say he wants to leave town.

“I want to be where I’m wanted,” Samuel told reporters. “If I’m not appreciated here, then life goes on. We had our talks. If they are tired of my big play-making ability, they’ll ship me off. If they still want it, they’ll keep me here”.

Samuel doesn’t want to be trade, he wants to be “HUGGED”. He’s a great player and we need to keep him here, but he’s also a “Diva”. We want to win a championship, so if what he needs is a hug then give him a hug. This is what comes along with bringing together great players.

This will be a major part of Andy Reid’s job and Juan Castillo’s job. They must make sure the egos are taken care of. You pull a guy into the office and tell him how great he is.

Let’s give Asante a group hug right here, right now.

If he’s not the best cornerback in the league, he’s the best playmaking cornerback in the league. I’ve never seen anybody ever jump a route the way Samuel does. Asomugha and Rodgers-Cromartie may be bigger and faster but they can’t read routes and pick a quarterback’s pocket like Samuel.

If quarterbacks are forced to throw the ball consistently in Samuel’s area, they won’t be getting any sleep before the game. With most games being won and lost in the passing game, I think it would be a foolish move to trade Samuel. Hug him and keep him here.

Next up we’ll tell him we like his braids.

Asante is going no where i really think and you heard andy reid say it in the press conference ” we saw what green bay did over there” Green bay had charles, the rookie and Tramon williams, all Of them played very well. I believe that is the formula and thats what the eagles want to do. My concern is that they keep talking about simplifying the offense. Worrys me a little i just hope its not as simple as houstons. They said last year that there defense was so simple that thats why they were so horrible. Asante will stay the guy is a pick machine no way they trade him out in his prime like this. Especially when the eagles defense is predicated on turnovers.

I agree, lets play with a stacked house and enjoy at least one season with three top corners. also stop messing around and settle with Jackson. He is a game breaker and much needed.

There not trading him, he ll be here the start of game 1 of the season… just let him know that hes appreciated, and this is where eagles management needs to improve. They dont really give there players the love all the time, sometimes there very harch and cold esp when it comes to business, TO situation is a good example of there cold treatment, yeah TO did way too much negative things off the field but his production was felt throughout the league, same is true with asante he has alot of bravado, alot of confidence, and his ego took a hit when they signed Nnamdi truly a better corner than asante, (just saying) and trading for DRC a young hungry corner that will probably be taking asantes job in a few years, so kind of let asante cool off a bit this is alot for him right now… Imagine if they made these deals and he was at camp already, ugh worst things would have come out of his mouth and the media would have had a field day…

Ever notice the confident walk asante does? Esp when hes on the field, im guessing its to intimidate but i gotta tell you when he does it its hilarious lol he did it at camp yesterday, it was so funny… he also does it in games all the time, i think its definitely supposed to intimidate his opponents… Think about also where he was raised at, that area of flordia is nooo joke, its alot of violence, gang violence at that so hes been around alot so i can see how he brings that type of fearless attitude to the field in games…

Yeah, G was spot on. But you know what? Asante IS a diva – to that I say – GROW THE F UP. I love the player – really do – I bought his jersey when was living in Boston a few years back just to stick it to the cheatriots fans. But he came back to camp (like a man granted), only to act like a little boy when they put a mike in front of him. Keep him, hug him or whatever he needs. But Asante, that’s dissapointing. You are an adult and should be able to act like one and put your ego aside. You still a milliionaire with great vacation time who PLAYS a GAME for a living? Then show up and act like an adult. Your ego should NOT be that fragile.

the front office can kill all the media talk and stories by making a statement but instead they’re staying silent to entertain offers which is making the media blitz worse….why would you want to trade a probowl corner that forces turnovers??…cromartie is a good corner but he isn’t on asantes level yet…they need to atleast try this cornerback lineup for this year since they are supposedly going for it

@Erock…. Braids can be undone… Dreds cannot… Does not look like you can simply undo Asante’s locks.. they look like dreds that would have to be cut and he would have to start growing his hair all over from scratch..

Braids are what american black women get for style/show.take em out in a week and she has an afro again. dredlocks are what rastafarians wear to signal their worship of Jah (halle Selassie I) and rejection of the idea of vanity…

not a big deal or anything, but It always has looked to me as though his hair is dreaded, not braided

G,

I agree man. Asante is jumps those routes better than anyone in the league, so it wouldn’t make sense to trade him. Besides, he’s guaranteed to get at least 7-8 Interceptions every year, always leading or 2nd to leading the league in interceptions. No traded position can account for 8 interceptions by one individual! We must keep Asante! AND I TOTALLY BLAME JOE BANNER FOR THE REASON ASANTE IS UPSET! HE SHOULD’VE KEPT CONFIDENTIAL INSTEAD OF BLATANTLY SAYING, “We’ve got teams entertaining offers for him, if we get one that makes sense, we’ll consider it”.

You just don’t say that. That’s very disrespectful towards Asante and I don’t blame him for being mad. At least he spoke his mind and said how he felt. I always respect that. He didn’t say any cuss words and talk negative about anyone, so people should just stop complaining and stop judging him. What did he do wrong? Smh.

Diz – You really think it’s disrespectful for Banner to answer honestly? AT MOST he said ‘consider’. He didn’t say he’d trade Asante at all. Man, if Asante – who gets MILLIONS upon MILLIONS to play a game – feels disrespected by his owner saying ‘maybe I’d consider something’ – man needs therapy.

I don’t know bout the disrespectful part, but it may not have been a smart way to manage an employee. If Assante comes out and asks for a trade, his value immediately goes down.

G,

Diva or not the guy is a playmaker and you don’t get rid of those guys!! The Eagles would be crazy to move him, think about who they are going to have to beat in order to get to the Super Bowl, the Packers and they are stacked with WR’s, 4-5 deep, they are gonna need all the DB help they can get! The toughest position on defense is 3rd DB that has to cover the slot reciever, Nnamdi Asomugha is build for and perfect for that job. I have watched DRC for the last few years, he started of with a blaze, but has regressed over the last 2 years, taking too many chances and looking lost at times. Samuels and Asomugha have to be your 1 & 2 Corners with Rodgers-Cromartie moving outside and Asomugha maning the slot in 3, 4 and 5 WR sets. BTW the birds still need a playmaker at LB’er. They will still be challenged vs the run, and teams with good recieving TE’s will test the LB’ers in underneath coverage and up the seam.
