Report: Maclin’s Brother Says He Will Be Fine And Mystery Will Be Cleared Up

I got the best news I’ve gotten in the long time yesterday when I heard a report that Jeremy Maclin’s older brother, Andre, said that his brother is going to be fine. I had heard all types of reports that Maclin was battling a serious illness, so the news that he was going to be fine was like music to my ears.

“When I say definitely, we definitely will have some news tomorrow,” Andre Maclin told Sporting News. “They (The Eagles) kind of have us on a gag order until tomorrow. … But he’s fine, he’s fine. That much I can say.”

When asked about his little brother playing this year, “Andre responded, Asked if he expects Maclin to play for the Eagles this season, the brother said, “I’m confident about that as well.”

Looking at him out at practice after hearing all types of rumors about his health had me praying for him. Football is one thing, but it’s more important to me that he’s going to be okay and able to go on playing football.

Steve Greenberg of the SportingNews.com made the report and I haven’t felt so good in a long time.
According to Greenberg, Andre Maclin said a news conference by the Eagles will be conducted on Tuesday it’s going to clear up all the questions concerning the mystery surrounding the health of Maclin.

We’re going to supposedly find out when he’s going to be back in action this season and according Greenberg, Maclin’s brother said he’s sure that Jeremy will be playing football this season.

That is good news indeed. Maclin gets overshadowed because of Desean. He may in up being the “John Stallworth” to Desean’s “Lynn Swann”.

Great news to hear that Maclin is going to be ok and that nothing serious is going on nad will healthy enough to return to football
As far as seeing him back on the field is a different story though for it will take him a good month or 2 to build his strength and weight back up.. He was approaching 190-195 lbs last season and is probably down to 175-180 which will be difficult for him to take the pounding being that intermediate route Receiver where a lot of his routes are in the middle and along the sidelines.. I expect him to be on the PUP list to start th eSeason and return some time in late October
(I also expect WR S Smith to return to action before Maclin) and there should be no rush for MAclin to feel he has to return before he’s physically fit and strong enough to return.. Get healthy first J-Mac… ..

This is from 3 days ago. Paulman lets stop trying to make predictions here. A Wr playing at 180 lbs is not out of the ordinary. Todd Pinkston was 6’2″ and played his career at 180lbs. Im sure if Maclin is healthy enough he will be active week 1.

Sources of mine from the St Louis area state that Maclin will definitely not be playing football anytime soon and definitely not in 2011 Season and that an annoucement will be forthcoming on Tuesday/Wed or so about his condition.. I wish him well and our thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family for a full and speedy recovery…

Let’s wait until the Press Conference Sully..
As far as playing at a light weight, sure it’s poosible, but you can’t compare a natually skinny fella like PInkston who always played at that weight or a smaller D-Jax who has always played at his normal wieght who are players who are naturally light..
When you have a player like J-Mac drop 15-20 lbs from his natural playing weight, that’s a big difference Sully.. Remembe rMaclin was very gun shy in his Rookie season when it came to contact and catches in traffic, well last year he bulked up and got stronger and more confident in doing so.. now it’s 2 steps back and it will take him a while to get back to where he was last season physically and mentally..

and for the record, my source in St Louis, was not Maclin’s brother either…

My guess on this whole thing is diabetes, similar to Jay Cutler — who also lost alot of weight at the time.

Maclin will start eating and getting his workout regimin on — he’ll get his weight back in no time. He probably won’t play til the final preseason game but will be ready for season opener.

Like I said the other day……Macklin will be out about 4 games at the most not the entire season. Also Macklin was playing @ 205 last year and is now about 185-190lbs. I will not be suprised if his first game back is in week three against the Giants.

@ sully….was a comparison to Pinkston supposed to be a positive example?

Pinkston was unable to get off of the line of scrimmage when facing press coverage (remember the Panthers game??) because of his slight frame and lack of strength….I believe that Maclin needs to around the same playing weight as last year to be effective. Hopefully this medical issue can be treated and he can return healthy, we shoule wait until they announce the results of all of the testing before we jump to many more conclusions. After what just happened to Mike Patterson, I think we should all realize that these players are also human beings, not just players on a field, and dealing with a serious illness and longterm effects takes presidence over training camp and pre-season games.

Brido – I think that is a good call, diabetes is a possibility. I just find it hard to believe that it would take them 3-4 months to diagnose diabetes. I guess we will find out later this week.

Is it common to lose that much weight with Diabetes..or maybe after the bout with “Mono” , then the Diabetes really kicked in and got his sugar levels all whacked out, making it difficult to regain or put weight back on…

OR we can not play the ‘non doctor diagnosis with only trace information that is at best 3rd hand’ game. Rather, we could wait a few hours till we have information.

I got a bad case of mono in High School – and my son had it about 4 years ago – I am not a doc – but if I remember right – the problem is you have to worry about your spleen and you can’t (well the docs don’t want you to) do contact sports for fear of hurting your spleen… that and the mono kind of just hangs …..

hopefully these were just tests to make sure his body can handle the hitting –

But hey – in the internet age – a list of other possible issues –

Serious complications are uncommon, occurring in less than 5% of cases:[35][36]

CNS: Meningitis, encephalitis, hemiplegia, Guillain-Barré syndrome, and transverse myelitis. EBV infection has also been proposed as a risk factor for the development of multiple sclerosis (MS),[37] but this has not been confirmed.
Hematologic: Hemolytic anemia (direct Coombs test is positive) and various cytopenias; Bleeding (caused by thrombocytopenia).[12]
Mild jaundice
Hepatitis (rare)
Upper airway obstruction (tonsillar hypertrophy) (rare)
Fulminant disease course (immunocompromised patients) (rare)
Splenic rupture (rare)
Myocarditis and pericarditis (rare)

In about 3 weeks, NFL football will return to the airwaves. I must admit that I really didn’t notice the lockout because there would have been no football played during that period anyway. Just the same, my level of anticipation grows daily. With Lurie and Banner deciding to go “all in,” our team is actually in a position to win. Win or lose, I’m pleased with the front office’s effort. Still, I can’t help but speculate as to why the sudden change of heart. Could the Phillies’ success be a major factor? Certainly, Banner and Lurie realized that their dollars were going down the road to our baseball team, increasingly. Perhaps they also recognized that the fans were growing tired of watching “Groundhog Day” over and over. Undoubtedly, there are other reasons worth speculating, but I digress. While it’s disappointing to know that opportunities were wasted over the years, I’ll leave the past in the past and focus on how refreshing it is to know that this year’s opportunity won’t be wasted. Now that they’re “all in,” so am I. Go Birds!

drummer – good to ‘see’ you again. Good points – but I think the main reason they did it differently was that this year was DRASTICALLY different in terms of free agency/the CBA/league rules…etc…etc…etc… The old CBA/uncapped year/CBA uncertainty/new rules/new free agencey rules created a perfect storm – and they saw the unique set of circumstances/opportunity and POUNCED.

I really think that’s it. More than anything that has to do with the Phillies or anything else.

drummer – I hear you. But I see them in dollars and cents too – the rest of the NFL (and media) were surprised at the Eagles’ ability to sign so many players and stay under the cap right? So doesn’t that point to them planning ahead for this unique offseason – in that they structured their cap/etc to be prepared for it?

I just don’t get the ‘dollars and cents’ argument about Eagles v. Phillies. I don’t see how they can compete. How many games overlap time wise? And most fans I know are fans of the Phillies and the Eagles both.

I’m glad to hear it’s nothing serious…Maclin is the best receiver on the team in my opinion. That said…he looks skinny. I think the Eagles really need to ease him back into action..you don’t want him to get injured.

One thing to keep in mind about the “All-In” statement that is thrown around and is not entirely true..Going “All-In” means you are sacrificing potential future success and giving it 1 Shot to reach the ultimate goal(Super Bowl). The Eagles added great players but not only to contend this year but over the next 3-4-5 Seasons so it’s a little different than saying we are going all in 2011..
Now if they signed Plaxico or Moss, obtained Haynesworth, signed Farve, etc and other old players who don’t have much left in the tank, then maybe you can see thay are all in for the short-term in spite of jeopardizing future teams and seasons, but this is nowhere near the case with this off-season, most of the players they picked up all have 3-4-5 good seasons left.. and maybe more..

To greenfan and others

Pass/Run Ratio Stats from last weeks game
66 Total Offensive plays for the Eagles
32 Running plays and 34 Pass plays
(there were 2 Sacks by Ravens and 1 Scramble by QB VY)

Pman – excellent commentary on the all-in – as pointed out by Peter King – this team is ‘all in’ for the next few years, with 24 of 26 pre-season starters signed for at least 2 more years….. looking to build the dynasty here – not just one SN win

I told you fellas, the past couple months he has been getting into athletic shape.
Of course I was basing it off of history, facts, and tendencies, so it’s great to hear this and hopefully see it this week.

But yes, I keep a low profile and am selective on my commenting.
The reason, anyone can give an opinion or hear themselves talk.
But, I’d be another fan voice if I commented on everything (not saying its bad, but this is my profession, not well-known yet but you gotta start somewhere and I’m 6 months into the profession).
I’m trying to be the guy that brings up sports media in San Diego (I’m an Eagles die hard, and for the record S.I.’s Jim Trotter brought himself up in San Diego, he didn’t bring up the city).

Anyways, some of you will find a way to hate and disregard this and my other comments about Maclin and other subjects, I could care less lol.
Regardless, think what you want I’ll stay focused on the fact were all EAGLES fans, I’m ready for the ride on the road to the Superbowl!!!

Why did Andre Maclin say the Eagles had a gag order on them speaking publicly until today? If his own brother wants to comment publicly and Jeremy doesn’t mind he should be allowed to speak and not have the Eagles organization preventing him from speaking out. Why all the secrecy?

Lets get some feedback on practice…..Does DE Hunt have a real shot of making the team with a good showing the next couple of games. What about Deseans contract any news? Is V.
