Birds Pass Rush Pummels Ryan, But Not When It Was Needed Most

The Eagles defensive line continued to wreak havoc. They put a beating on Matt Ryan, but I must give him credit for standing in there and making the plays against the Birds defense down the stretch when it mattered.

Defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins tallied two sacks in the battle and one of them was a vicious explosion into the face of Matt Ryan. He had helmet-to-helmet contact with the quarterback, which will probably wind up being a fine from the league office, but he’s the best pass rushing defensive tackle the Eagles have had in a long time.

I haven’t seen an Eagles defensive tackle explode out of his stance like that in a long time, since Jerome Brown. Jenkins had 3 tackles and 1 assist on the day.

Trent Cole was beating Sam Baker to a pulp during the Sunday Night Game. Here you have Baker weighing 307 pounds while Cole is only weighing 270 pounds at the most, but Cole was charging Baker with a bull-rush play after play and there was nothing the Falcon could do about it.

Cole had one sack, but he was making plays against the run and the pass. He made 5 solo tackles and contributed 1 assist. It was the most dominating performance I’ve ever seen him put on and Baker seemed like he was intimidated by Cole.

Defensive end Jason Babin also registered a sack and he made me think of Buddy Ryan with a hit he put on Ryan last night. Babin came off the left corner and went inside. Once he saw Ryan was trying to roll out to his side, Babin came back outside and got his hands on Ryan’s jersey.

He slammed Ryan to the turf and almost broke the quarterback’s leg in the process. It was a violent move that looked much like the way I’ve seen Ndamkong Suh of Detroit Lions bullying quarterbacks. I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets a letter from the league office warning him for being so violent.

Again I like the way they were able to not only get to the quarterback, but they arrived quickly and delivered some good hits. They punished Ryan, but he showed the entire league his toughness. He was able to stand in there strong and make the plays down the stretch to get the victory..

Still this group didn’t dial up the pressure with the game on the line. They allowed the Falcons to drive the ball against them when it mattered most. All the sacks and pressures were great but they’ve got to get those when the game is on the line.

I like our Dline because they are nasty. They play with an attitude and can all get to the QB. I saw Parker go down and I didn’t hear anything else about him or paid attention if he came back in the game. Did he? I think the one big thing that will hold this line back is they make have to stay on blocks longer or not go full on to the QB if the LB play doesn’t improve. They will have to pinch more and make sure they pay more attention to the ball rather than just go after the QB. Hopefully the LBs improve over the next few games. We don’t need Ray Lewis in the middle or Clay Matthews rushing the QB. We just need them to be where they are supposed to be and get off blocks….. just solid play.

I have to admit that I hav enever really been a big Matt Ryan fan, but he do show me some toughness last night for he was getting pounded pretty good in the 2nd & 3rd Period and began to get happy feet for a while but he sucked it up and played through some heavy pressure and some big hits and finished the game starong and I hate to even say this.. But that game was hughe for him in his own locker room and for that entire team for them to get that “Eagle” off their backs to their own phyche and fans.. This is th etype of Win for the Falcson that could propel them for run a 5-6-8 game winning streak where as a win by the Eagles and especially in the convincing fashion that it was looking when VIck was still in their playing could have been a real downer for them nad put them at 0-2 and a lot of doubt on what kind of leader Ryan is and can be for the future.. Just a huge win for them and in the end I think that kind of urgency played a role for them to come back and win the game where for the Eagles it would have been nice to win, but not that big of a deal if they lost …

We started this year out with two road games.Yea iT would have been sweet to have them both but as long as we split then we won the battle… is not easy to get a win in this league… give the falcons credit on a good gameplan.. But we shot ourselves in the foot, we were dominating them almost the entire game but we made some crucial mistakes all near the endzone and inthe redzone, they could not stop us…
