Jeremy Maclin Has Career Game, But Drops An Easy One At The End

It was fourth down and the game was on the line. Eagles wideout Jeremy Maclin came off the line on the left side of the formation, then used his strength and size to get inside of the man-to-man coverage. He knew he had to get open because the game was on the line.

Second-year quarterback Mike Kafka was in there at quarterback in place of injured starter Michael Vick. Kafka had been perfect so far in his throws and Andy Reid was hoping that it would continue on this play.

What a night Maclin was having in front of the nation on this Sunday night game. It was one of the best games of his career. He had pulled down 13 receptions for 171 yards and two touchdowns.

He showed his explosiveness and punt return ability on a quick screen in the third quarter. Maclin stepped back behind the line of scrimmage and caught a pass from Michael Vick. He saw the pursuit coming from inside and knew he had no time to spare. Maclin secured the football and started heading upfield.

Eagles left tackle Jason Peters showed his athleticism by shoving John Abraham upfield as the defensive end headed toward the Vick. Once Peters had discarded Abraham, he then quickly headed up downfield in search of a little defenseless defensive back.

Maclin quickly got in behind him and turned on the turbos. The third-year wideout went into the end zone from 36-yards out without being touched. This was a perfectly executed play for the Birds.

This was an eventful game for Maclin who was knocked out of the contest for a few plays when Atlanta cornerback Dunta Robinson launched into him with his helmet as Maclin was crossing the field on a pass route.

This is the same Dunta Robinson who had launched into DeSean Jackson a year ago on the same type of crossing route. This time he didn’t get an exact hit on his target, Maclin’s head and the wide receiver was able to continue playing after taking a few plays off.

Back to the fourth quarter play with less than two-minutes remaining on the clock. The Eagles were trailing by four points, in Falcons territory and desperate to get a first down because the clock had less than two-minute remaining on the clock.

Kafka dropped into the pocket and looked up Maclin who had gotten inside of his defenders. The former Northwestern signal caller spotted the wide receiver and let the throw go. It was on the money and hit Maclin right in the chest.

Instead of catching the ball in his hands, Maclin tried to cradle the ball but it bounced off his chest and fell to the ground. He’s got to make that catch. It was a perfect throw and would have been one of the easiest plays he made all night. He’s got to come down with that football.

It was a bittersweet ending for Maclin, who had enjoyed a career game. Fortunately for the Birds, this won’t be the last time that this young receiver torches a secondary.

I would say an INT and 2 Fumbles are more costly than a drop, especially on 4th down. Coaches are part of blame too if team has to win on 4th down lol

More importantly, where was the “all-world” receiver the entire game?

What a let-down of a game. Peter’s played out of his skull. So did Shady. This team is fun to watch and root for but after watching the Patriots and the Packer’s two weeks in a row now, you’d be a fool to say they have shot a the Super Bowl. Alot can change in 15 weeks and for this team, especially defensively, I hope it does. How can a team look great on defense one drive and completely lost the next?

Wow really, the patriots and Packers… The Packers barely beat a team with a new coach and rookie and QB…I’m not impressed. The Pats yes they are playing out of their minds, but remember the SB is not won in September. Peak too soon, and you tire yourself out late. Even though Mike took some nice shots, I was impressed with the O-line. They are getting better.

Yeah Pats and Pack giving up tons of points to lesser offensives, and the Pack LB core was bleeding yardage a lot, at least out guys are young and growing.

Mono, young & growing!!!??? Are you nuts? Growing into what, more experienced stiffs!!!??? They are horrid!! Now Chaney has also regressed, because of the position change. The Birds don’t have a prayer against those teams. This year is over already, after 2 games!!! WTF!!! Maybe i’m overreacting. Maybe i’m not.

Tonto, yeah he looked good handing out towels & squirting Gatoraide in the players mouths! F^#@ing disgraceful! I sincerely cannot stomach this coaching staff & front office! Reid, Rosebud, Castillo the psycho & Morningwood need to go ASAP!!!!! If I hear the stepford written script ” I gotta put them in better positions to make plays, gotta do a better job or I gotta get better at that”, i’m going to go on a rampage on Pattison Ave. Just f^#@ing do it already Reid! GET BETTER, DO A F^#@ING BETTER JOB, PUT THEM IN F^#@ING POSITION ALREADY!! IT’S ONLY BEEN OVER A DOZEN YEARS!!! Every year the same bull$#!t, with this fat waste of sperm!!!!!

Wow. Over-reacting at it’s phinest. Well done D. Granted, this team has some kinks to work out but fire the entire front office?.. The same F.O that did just about everything it could do this off-season to improve?.. Tell me genius, what exactly would you do at this juncture?.. Its early in the day and I’ve yet to laugh.

DCar, man you need to chill. It was one loss to a very good team. A team many feel are a superbowl contender. We should have easily won that game by 2 TDs. Vick had two costly fumbles, each of which lead to a TD. Maclin should have caught that 4th down pass. To top it off, Reid should have challenged that one play where the ball hit the ground (think it was an INT).

JIMMY, IT’S TOO LATE NOW! They didn’t do about everything to improve! The off seasons priorities were RCB, O-Line, LB’s, D-Line & Safety respectively. WTF, did they do to better/ upgrade LB’s, O-Line & Safety! The safeties are worse, the LB’s are worse & the O-Line are arguably worse! Where the improvement!!!!?????? Give me a f^#@ing break!

sucks, but it happens
we had 3 turnovers, the d i though did well overall, but they couldnt hold atl to fgs
desean dropped a td (offsides on atl) and maclin dropped the magnified play at the end
he shoulda caught it, but it happens and we lost our guy and they did what they were supposed to and took advantage
oh well, one game that we will remember, and if we meet up in the playoffs i bet you we win convincingly, because we shoulda last night
1-1, healthy for the most part (unlike the chiefs), we just gotta wait and see on the status of vick/young
go birds!
