Another year in the Minors for Dom Brown?

With the addition of Hunter Pence and the sort-of emergence of John Mayberry, Jr., this doesn’t seem as bad. But, still, Domonic Brown just can’t seem to take that next step to succeed at the MLB level. This guy was the big prospect. The “oh hell no” in any trade discussion. But, we also have to remember that there was a time when Brandon Duckworth was untouchable. I’m not saying Brown goes in that direction, but he’s getting closer to Duckworth than he is to super stud.

According to Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer on Twitter, Ruben Amaro, Jr. thinks Dom is going to spend another year in the Minors.

“Amaro says he’d like Domonic Brown to spend another full season in triple A,” Gelb tweeted.

Ugh. It’s not even spring training yet and they already have him pegged for Lehigh Valley? Another big punch to the gut for anyone who was expecting him to break out this year.

But, the truth is that Brown hasn’t shown us what all the hype was about. He had a handful of decent games with the Phillies, but he also looked lost at the plate way too much and I don’t think there is anyone reading this that can say they had full confidence in him when a fly ball was sent his way.

In 41 games at Lehigh Valley this year, he hit .261 with three HR’s and 15 RBI’s.

These aren’t the worst numbers I’ve ever seen, but they aren’t screaming “get this guy up to the bigs.” Maybe he needs another year in Triple A, but he’s now 24 and hopes of him being the next coming are quickly fading.

The media are the ones who over-hyped this kid up, He has raw atletic ability but is far from a finished product.. He staruggles with off-speed pitches and is very weak in his Defnese positioning and picking up the ball off the bat when playing in the OF.. He will most likely platoon in LF w/Mayberry next season and should get his share of At-Bats.. I also think with Ryan Howards Injury and extensive re-hab, that Mayberry will most likely be the Starting 1B next season until R Howard returns which many believe (including myself) that it may be mid-June and possibly All-Star Break.. ..
Brown needs a lot a reps and work to be an everyday OF and playing LF is easier than RF so that should help.. But I see 4 OF;s for Phillies as the follwoing
LF Brown, CF Victorino, RF Pence, and MAyberry can play all 3 Positions and 1B until Howard returns…
As a surprise, could even see a Jason Bay from the Mets in LF for the Phils next season too according to a couple of loose sources up in the big apple….

Are you serious Paulman. You see him platooning? He stinks. He cant hit and he cant field. He is terrible.

Jason Bay!? He’s a bigger overpaid bust, than Werth! Paul, tell your sources to go back in your head! 😉 LMAO!!

Say what you want about Werth — we missed him in this years playoffs. The guy the supposably “filled his shoes” couldn’t even hit the ball out of the infield.

Birdo, Werth I wanted resigned, but that contract he received, was insanely asinine!

DCAR, true. But Werth was clutch in the playoffs….it was a sad thing to see him go.

Werth will be released by the Nats after 2012 Season, A complete bust..
Pence was hurt the final 2-3 weeks of the Season…
Clilff Lee is the man responsible for losing the Cardinals Series,in my opinion,
If he protects a 4-0 Lead halfway thru the game and pitches shutdown baseball, then the Phillies are probably playing in Milwaukee tonight, but as usual, Lee gets a free pass because everyone loves him…

Birdo, I agree, he was one of my favorites. An underdog, who overcame a lot of injuries, worked hard to rebuild a successful, new start!
Paul, there is no way on God’s green earth, that they release him, & eat over $100m! Are you smoking the peyote, ganja (spelling).!?

Many in the NAts Organization were not only very disappointed in his performance on the field but also his lack of leadership and professionalism in the locker room.. He was’t even playing everyday in their line-up the last few weeks of the Season.. They will look to trade him but will have to eat a lot of $$ any way they look at it, but they have buyers remorse big time in Washington where they have a very good young club and don’t want a “cancer” to develop and ruin it for them… Werth belongs on the Red Sox..

Before the Phillies started the see-saw game with Brown it was clear that he was tearing up the minors and didn’t fit there. Dominic Brown needs to struggle for a full season in the big leagues to realize his potential.

The Phillies have been jerking the kid around for the last couple of years putting him in the minors and bringing him up to the bigs for a couple of games and sending him back down, then bringing him back up and then sending him back down. Like any other work situation when a person continually gets jerked around with what their responsibilities are eventually they become completely disenfranchised and often do the minimum possible to satisfy the job requirements. Maybe the Phillies should trade him as some of you seem to want to suggest, but don’t be surprised when the guy turns to Ken Griffey Jr., in his prime, afterwords.
