The commercials during the preseason caused immediate excitement.  When driving towards Center City Philadelphia or towards the Walt Whitman Bridge, it’s impossible to not see the high definition billboards.

The slogan for the Philadelphia Eagles this year is simply one word: HEART.  After DeSean Jackson’s punt return sealed the miracle comeback in the Meadowlands last December, the talk of the Eagles was about how much heart they displayed regardless of what they were up against.

Unfortunately, we haven’t much heart on display since that thriller in North Jersey.  After defeating the Giants 38-31, the Birds have gone 1-7 in games that count (0-5 at Lincoln Financial Field), including their wildcard loss to the Green Bay Packers.

Now, it’s not so much the record that’s disturbing.  It is how the Eagles have lost that is most disturbing.  Missed tackles, multiple turnovers, dropped balls, etc.  The Birds have looked creative in how they’ve lost games recently.

Ronnie Brown looked like he was imitating Magic Johnson with that pass option play on THE GOAL LINE against the New York Giants.  DeSean Jackson appeared on The View earlier this year to show support for a victim of bullying.  I hope he gave Jason Avant that same type of love after he had the ball snatched from his grasp twice in Buffalo.

Heart doesn’t allow three consecutive 4th quarter leads turn into losses.  Heart doesn’t equate to a minus 8 turnover ratio, not with the talent this defense acquired.  Heart doesn’t allow players to be put in the same position to make the same mistakes week in and week out.

As a fan, it’s very difficult to find in my own heart any belief that the Philadelphia Eagles can rebound from a 1-4 start and salvage the remainder of their season.  Not when this was supposed to be the easy part of the schedule.

Heading towards a match up against the division rival Washington Redskins, Philly has stated the importance of eliminating turnovers and mental errors.  Unfortunately, they’ve vowed to correct these same errors after the Atlanta loss and the loss to the Giants.

Can they finally step in the right direction at FedEx Field is anyone’s guess.  One thing is for certain: If the Eagles lose to the Redskins, they might as well change their slogan from HEART to CARDIAC ARREST.

Haran, yes yes yes. What i was watching was players giving up. The body language they were showing after things went south was clearly “here we go again”. They bought into the hype this year… they read the press. They bought into this idea that we were going to pick up where we left off on O and that the D would be better. The biggest problem as i see it (besides the overall lack of talent at LB, safety, Oline) is that this team is not sold on Andy. They see this as a sinking ship. im talking about ONLY what i see. I do not know this first hand.
