If I Were Calling The Shots For The Eagles

We’ve all been in situations from time to time when we’ve said “Man, if that were me I would a’…” but if you think about it, you would’ve done the same thing that the person you’re talking about would have done, right? Now if they were in your shoes, maybe they would do what you would do. Make sense?  .

Now, what would you do if you had the say so in turning around this Philadelphia Eagles football team? If you were the Eagles owner and called the shots and could make the moves you wanted to make, what would you do? There are a lot of what if’s surrounding this team, for instance, what if long time offensive line coach Juan Castillo had stayed in his previous position and we had brought in a new defensive coordinator? What if we hadn’t brought in so many of the high priced “talent” that now finds itself in disarray? What if, what if, what if…

I thought about it and, if “I” was Jeffrey Lurie… I’m going to put myself in his shoes, or should he be in mine? Anyway, here goes… let’s start at the top and this is the most difficult. Do I bring in new blood, new ideas, and a whole new philosophy to the team? As much as I like Coach Reid and am thankful for the years of, can I say “prominence” he brought to this town and this organization, he has never gotten us over the hump to a Super Bowl win. Can I create a position in the front office for him? Perhaps.

Bringing in a new coach and new philosophy would mean starting over, wouldn’t it? No! Can you say George Seifert? Remember what he did in San Fran with the 49ers after Bill Walsh retired? What did Mike Tomlin do after inheriting the Pittsburgh Steelers when Bill Cowher retired? How about Jon Gruden, taking over a successful Tony Dungy team and winning a title the very next year? What to do, what to do? Andy, you’re… hired for one season, if not only because I really like you. I think that “ONE” more year – and ya’ gotta’ get it done – and an actual off season, will get this team to Louisiana and Super Bowl XLVII at the Super Dome! 2012 has to be “get it done or you’re done”!

Now Andy, I need you to get me a high profile defensive coordinator. Since Jeff Fisher will probably get a head coaching job somewhere (Jeff strikes me as a “too big for his britches” kind a guy that will probably sit it out if he doesn’t). You can bring your ole’ pal “Spags” (current St. Louis Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo) since he’s going to need a job after the season or former (recently fired) Jacksonville Jags head coach Jack Del Rio? He’s a gritty, no nonsense guy that would fit in well in Philly. I like him Andy, make a move!

The next order of business is to make Juan Castillo an assistant coach under Marty Mornhinweg (so he can keep a job) cause I like you too Juan and it’s not your fault that Andy didn’t tell you straight up that he needed to go with an actual defensive coordinator instead of taking a chance and doing a friend a favor. After all this is Show “Business” not Show “Friends”! I believe my other coach’s are good to go so… well, one thing Andy, get secondary coach Mike Zordich to go over the fundamentals with his guys of how to cover a receiver, you know, like reading a receivers eyes and playing the ball.  I like you too Mike but c’mon man!

Now, we’ve got a lot of talent on defense and… uh, Andy, any really good linebackers available in free agency after the season? Sorry, lost my thought. As I was saying… Nnamdi is having a bad year… right? Andy? And, I’m willing to pay to keep Asante cause I really do want him here! But Dominique-Rodgers Cramartie? Do we really need him? Especially since you’re so high on the young guys like Brandon Hughes and Curtis Marsh. I need you to “coach up” Jaiquawn Jarrett, get him ready and sit Nate Allen… and why did you ever cut Trevard Lindley (I liked him too)? Just asking.

I’m going to need you to change that whole secondary scheme and use these guy’s strengths. Some of our “Dream Team” is playing out of position. If that’s the case we should’ve never brought them here in the first place! Linebackers… lost my thought again… just thinking about MLB Stephen Tulloch of the Detroit Lions and D’Qwell Jackson in Cleveland who will be available perhaps, after the season. What about that OLB in Carolina… Dan Conner? And they’re young cats Andy… anyway… moving on…

Mike Kafka, number two quarterback! Next?!  “SHOW ME THE MONEY!” Oh, that’s DeSean’s line. Yeah D-Jax, I’m gonna pay you, even though you’ve not “SHOWN ME YOU’RE A GROWN UP” yet but you’re one of the top two or three weapons in the entire NFL and I still need you. But you better grow up by next year! Yeah, right!

The last stipulation to keeping your job Andy is, I want you to start actually answering the questions asked by the reporters. I never, EVER, want to hear out of your mouth again how you need to get the players in a “better position to win”! Ugh! I can’t STAND it when you say that! And we ALL know it starts with you! I know you have the guys’ backs and I appreciate that, but sometimes you gotta call a duck, a duck, know what I’m sayin’?

So, call a press conference for tomorrow and we’re gonna’ set the record straight. Andy, for one more year, the “time is yours”. But I’m keeping Bill Cowher on speed dial.

CEF too funny – but I give Mr Young credit for giving it a good effort – some decent thoughts – and I am going to make a suggestion that I hope – though I doubt it – will be taken seriously –

GO COACH YOURSLEVES! Don’t play fantasy football, don’t play Madden or sit around back biting Reid – GO WALK A MILE IN HIS SHOES! The kids need you. Get out there and volunteer to help out with a team – Pop Warner, AYF or even Flag – everyone on here has strong opinions of ‘the right way’ to do things – GO DO IT! Show everyone you can manage the clock and a game – develop players, build a game plan, teach teamwork, sportsmanship and you can show that you can make adjustments on the fly – build future leaders and future fine young men (no better feeling then having a kid you used to coach walk up and greet you and still call you coach) and that your team will always kick but in the red zone… get outside, hoot and holler and make a difference.

If you can’t make the time to do that – go ref – earn some money, show those ‘bums’ how a good official would make the call – then you can watch 6 to 8 coaches every week try to do all the things you just know you can do easily, without 75000 screaming and yelling – make a difference in the game

Do it cause you love the game of football!

One more year huh? listen, he’s not winning it next year so what’s the point. The Eagles are where they are because of Reid’s ridiculous decisions, so we should just ignore that fact and give him a 14th season. The point is to win the SuperBowl, and if it’s not obvious to all at this point that Reid’s approach won’t get it done, than God help us. Name a Superbowl winning team with no linebackers or safeties. When you have a lack of talent that is poorly coached, this is what you get. You have 4 to 5 good defensive players, and 6 to 7 stiffs. Doesn’t work. Time nor coaching can fix lack of talent. Anyone whose real goal is to win a SuperBowl will realize the futility with Reid and try it with someone new.

If I were GM, this is my plan-
1- Fire square peg in round hole & his entire posse.
2- Asante, Patterson, laws, the entire LB core (minus Rolle & Chaney. special teams) & DJax adios.
3- Don’t resign VY, Smith, Brown (all disasters to begin with).
4- Resign McCoy (give him 25-30 touches a game), DRC (play him correctly).
5- We will have a top 5-6 pick, so draft; Rd 1- Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU; Trade both 2 rounders, trade up to 1st round & draft Vontaze Burfict, LB, Arizona State, or Manti Te’o, LB, Notre Dame.
6- Brian Billick- HC; Steve Spagnuolo- DC (if fired), either John Hoke or Winston Moss (if not offered HC position); Brad Childress- OC.
7- Sign Dwayne Bowe- WR; Jason Jones- DT; Laron Landry- S; Stephen Tullock- Lb; & injury chance with D’Qwell Jackson- LB;

Andy I’ve got to let you go. You have consistently demonstrated mediocre talent evaluation abilities and successful NFL franchises are built that way. If NFL game were played two weeks apart you would be cool, but since they are every week you don’t seem to be able to keep up. Did I mention you suck on game day? Also all those millions I spent this year on free agents basically lit on fire because you hired your boy as DC. Finally you really don’t stack up all that well against the better coaches in the bigger games. I don’t really think you will ever win the big one.
Good luck take some time off and do something about your health which I really think is becoming an issue. It has been a great run but it will never result in what Eagles fans really need

If I’m Laurie it all comes down to 1 simlple question Reid has to answer for me.

“Andy, do you believe you win championships with a quarterback that is a throw and run threat?”
I believe he has used Vick’s legs as a cover-up when the game plan isn’t working. Vick’s drive to win makes him run too often, but has masked poor play calling in the red zone in particular.
If Andy answers, yes. I fire him on the spot and look for a coach that wants his quarterback to do 1 thing great, throw the ball. Andy loves these athletes so he can call pass plays 80% of the time and they can run out of trouble.

Todays NFL requires you to throw the ball 60+% of the time, but the quarterback has to find the open reciever or throw the ball away for the most part. He can’t have the run option because he will not go through a complete progression. Vick is entertaining, but he is too short and just can’t find the correct reciever enough to be an elite team. Last year was the exception, not the norm.

I am officialy hoping to lose the final 4 games and get Barkley in the draft. Next year Vick has to be kept for salary cap reason, but he can then be traded to a desperate team without a bad cap hit and Barkley will have has 1 year to learn the system.

I believe Andy Reids ideal vision of a quarterback is flawed despite his incredible football knowledge. His planning and organization is unmatched, but his strengths are diminished when he has to change things up in the fourth quarter against other playoff teams.

I just don’t understand how this team struggles so much in the red zone with Vick and McCoy. The shovel pass amazingly still works on teams, but that’s it. You have to rush or keep Vick going to the end zone because he is to small to sit in the pockets and find Maclin or Jackson.

and Maclin and D-Jax are too chicken shit to get open in the Red-Zone too..
They will slow up and not look back when crossing the middle for fear of having to make the tough catch in traffic.. This is a huge Reason why they can’t pass for TD’s once inside the Red-Zone, No Alley Oops Routes, No using the TE effectively and no Physical WR’s to catch in traffic .. and since Coach AR doesn’t value a physical smash mouth running game, hence their problems in the Red-ZOne.. (I only have been saying this for the last 4-5 Seasons and probably sound like a broken record by now but this is the root of their struggles in scoring TD’s while in the Red-Zone)

Paul, I’m hoping for a loss this weekend and a top 7 draft pick (4 if we get real lucky).

It’s sad that the site may need your first Eagles mock draft before Christmas instead of playoff talk.

Would you trade up to get Luck? We will probably have the 8th overall pick and miss out on Barkley. This years round 1 and 2 and the round 1 for 2013 to get the first pick this year.

Yes let’s give Andy Reid one more year…

13 were not enougth.

We have to see if he will finally think that a linebacker is important.

After all it only took 7 years for him to realize a passing team needs good wide recievers.

Let’s keep Juan while we are at it. The offensive line was pure garbage after runyan and tra thomas left, and the incoming coach got rid of all his players but after all he’s a nice guy so let’s keep him on..

Let’s keep Desean “high school sized” Jackson. He has’nt lifted a weight since he’s been in philadelphia, and in a year when you are supposed to go all out to get the big contract, he won’t catch a thing over the middle, but let’s keep him. All the while, nobody has complained about Shady McCoy being underpaid. Maybe, that’s because Shady has not complained.

Let’s keep the wide 9. After all look at all the superbowl winners who have used this defense…

Do not walk in fear.

Andy’s job was to produce, and he has not. His stupidity has crushed this season. Let his fat, arrogant behind go. He is what he is.

A long time ago a Eagle wide reciever was telling a reporter, he was doing the best he could. The reporter concluded that he was telling the truth, and that was the problem.

We have gone as far as we can go with Andy Reid’s west coast offense and undersized defense. The winningest coach in Eagles history,.. Until this organization wins a championship in modern history, that does not mean squat. Throw in 5 trips to the NFC championship game. Finish the sentence. Five trips with 4 loses. A twenty percent winning percentage when it matters.

Who cares if your doctor does a good job on your routine physical. If he has to do heart surgery, then you want a winner, not a %20 chance of doing a good job.

I don’t see the Eagles moving up to get a Luck or a Barkley
Depending where they finish, I could see them grabbing a QB with one of their
2nd Round PIcks..
If the Season ended today, they would have the #6th pick, #38th pick and Arizona’s 2nd Rounder (approx the #44 Pick)

My Mock Draft (which is hard to do since there will be a lot of Juniors coming out after the College Bowl Games to add into the mix) .. But for now, and for fun, I would do the following in this upcoming Draft if I was running the show

1st Round (6th Overall) – WR J Blackmon Oklahoma State (6-1 215lbs)
(Replaces the outgoing D-Jax who leaves Eagles via Free-agency)

2nd Round (38th Overall) – ILB Donta’ Hightower – Alabama (6-4 260lbs)
(A tackling, dowhill run stuffer to control the interior of the Eagles Defense, Chaney moves to the outside replacing M Fokou at the SAM spot)

2nd Round (44th Pick from Cardinals) – DT Fletcher Cox – Miss State (6-4 300lbs) A tenacious run-stuffer who gets penetration, will probably add 10-15 lbs to his frame by his 2nd Season and could be a real good one who can play inside or outside as De, think of a younger Cullen Jenkins..

3rd Round (70th Overall) – QB Nick Foles – Arizona (6-4 240lbs) A big guy with a very strong arm and throws a great Deep ball, has good mobility and has played in a Pro-Style OFfense in Arizona under former NFL Coach Dennis Erickson..I project him with real potential as a NFLStarter by year 3 in the NFL with good Coaching.. Needs help with footwork and some mechanics as all young QB’s do, but this kid is a real sleeper pick IMHO

4th Round (#102 Overall Pick) – OT Nate Potter – BYU – 6’6″-300lbs
SPecializes in Pass-Protection, K Dunlap may test Free-Agency and despite what many may think of him, he will garner some interest and probably receive bigger offers than the Eagles want to pay for a back-up and Who knows the Status of W Justice who I think may get traded this Off-season

Paulman, you say a lot of dumb shit on here but I actually like that proposed draft…even though i think it would be a mistake to let Djax go which I still think they wont and will just franchise him….I would love to see Blackmon on this team. Im not so sure that Hightower would last that long to be grabbed in the second round tho…

IN regard to your other point, the Eagles might not need to trade up to get Griffen or Barkley…This game on sunday might seem meaningless but it turns out to be huge when it comes to draft position. If the Eagles lose this game they will prolly lose out the rest of the way since they will be technically eliminated from a playoff spot (even though they already are) which will cause most of the players on this team to really not give a shit.

If they lose sunday, there is no way they beat a hungry and desperate Jets team who need to win or a Cowboys team the week after with something to play for. Kafka will prolly play the last game against the redskins with no Shady in his backfield so that will be prolly a lost as well. They could easily have a top4-5 pick and some of the team in front of them like the Jags or Vikings will pass since they just drafted a first round QB…

If Griffin is there the Eagles need to jump on him…Screw what Vick thinks. The key is where the redskins will fall since they obviously need a QB and will prolly take him after Colts take Luck.

One good thing about the Eagles crappy Season is that this Years Draft is a very good and deep one for the needs the Eagles have.. (outside the Safety postion..)
I would like to add a few more Player mOves I would make If I were King for a day..

Trade A Samuel, W Justice for Draft Picks
Let D-Jax,VY, S Smith, R Brown, J Jackson,J Parker,M Fokou all Leave Via Free-Agency

Sign an experienced Safety,LB & WR in Free-Agency and Draft DT,LB,WR,QB,OL,RB,TE for Depth to the overall Roster

bsm – a question – you made this statement –

‘After all it only took 7 years for him to realize a passing team needs good wide recievers’

What did you mean by that? The Eagles used first and second round draft picks on WR and went out and traded for TO within the first 5 years of Reid being here? They drafted WRs, signed WRs from FA since that time –

perhaps if you took a look at the eagles drafts/FA signings and trades you would prehaps see that the ‘didn’t value’ WRs is just another in a very long line of throw away cliches are in no way supported by the facts –

the issue if you remember was after the team lost to Carolina in the NFCC game – Reid when asked abotu his WRs said ‘We can win with these rcvrs’ to which every scoffed – but then low and behold – a year later – with those same WRs (minus James Thrash traded to DC – that draft pick became Trent Cole) were the same Eagle WRs that got the eagles into the SB….

Your analogy of a general practitioner as opposed to a heart surgeon is comparing apples to donuts (I threw that in there to make you laugh since you seem fixated on Reids wieght – glad the Raider weren’t that worried about Madden’s back in the day) – you want the eagles to go from a very good coach to a great or elite coach – and when I look around – I don’t see any willing to jump into the eagles job – take away the BS – go ahead and compare Cowher’s record to Reids – Gruden’s to Reids (especially his last couple years in Tampa) – Pman is asking for H Edwards – Why get on a plan and fly cross country, argue with your insurance company when you have the almost exact same risk during surgery?

I agree with you that it is time for Reid to move on and try something new (after all – this isn’t brain surgery its a game) and see if som enew life can get pumped into team

For all those hating on Castillo – check this article about the Packers D out –

Green Bay isn’t lacking for star power at any level of its defense. The Packers have sunk considerable financial and draft resources into stars on the line, at linebacker and in the secondary. But the unit, fifth in total defense last season, is now sitting at 31st. Underachievers, right?

Albert Beer NFL.com – pointing out the PAckers D is struggling MIGHTILY this year (where you at songs ) but that the struggles are covered up by a great offense……………

and my last general comment – the other day some discussions about Philly fans, their feelings, their anger and frustration – now these stories are hitting the national news about Philly fans giving Matthews girlfriend shit and making her cry at a game?

Really guys – and you wonder why I point out faults with the overall intelligince of some eagles fans and the view the rest of the country has about what eagle fans are like – sure play 4 years of college ball, get drafted, make the team, but not be what I as a fan think you shoul dbe and I am going to abuse your girlfriend? Thank you Pheags..
By the way, what was the last dumb thing I posted on here…. ha ha
Anyways.. I do see the Redskins going after QB M Barkely before Robert Griffin III and I could see the Top 10 Picks going a little like this

Here is my Top #10 Draft Selections and teams positions based on Today

#1) Colts (0-12) QB A Luck from Stanford ( a no-brainer selection)
#2) Rams (2-10) OT M Kalil from USC (need OL to Protect QB Bradford)
#3) Vikings (2-10) CB M Claibourne from LSU (Best Cover CB in the Draft)
#4) Jaguars (3-9) WR J Blackmon from Oklahoma State (Need Weapons for QB Gabbert to throw to, best All-Around WR in the Draft)
#5) Browns (4-9) RB T Richardson from Alabama (P Hillis will be gone, former #1 RB M Hardesty out with knee injuries for 2nd year in row, need a consistent RB and Richardson is the best all around RB in Draft)
***#6) Eagles (4-8) – Trade Down with Redskins who take QB M Barkley
(Eagles gain a 3rd Round Pick in 2012 and a 3rd Round pick in 2013 for moving back 4 Spots)
#7) TB Bucs (4-8) – CB D Kirkpatrick from Alabama (Bucs having the aging R Barber to replace and the often in trouble CB A Talib to be worried about)
#8) Miami (4-8) – DE Q Couples from UNC (6’6″ 285 lbs – Best All-Around DE in the Draft and reminds many of a young raw Julius Peppers with his size, length and athleticism.. remember this name…)
***#9) Redskins (4-8) – Goes to Eagles who Select WR M Floyd – Notre Dame (6-3 225lbs & becomes the big target that Eagles have been missing)
#10) Panthers (4-8) – OT R Reiff from Iowa (6-6 305 lbs) to replace the often injured J Otah at RT and Protect QB C Newton

That’s it for now…

Mylow….Where to begin?? Clearly you like these guys too much. First issue is this. Who wants to coach this team? Who really wants to work with Michael Vick? As much as coaches admire his talent and the fits he can cause any D coordinator, how many guys who really know what they are doing want to come into a situation where they already have the problem of being stuck with a QB that will never get you past the confernece finals. There is no way Vick ever wins a championship unless he pulls a Doug Williams and somebody else gets there and he comes into the game due to injury. Or he holds the clipboard while somebody else plays QB. So on those grounds it may just make sense to keep Andy until you can dump Vick.

Plan A. Fire Reid. Draft your QB of the future as long as it isn’t RG3 because after 25 years its time to go in a different direction. No more athleitc QBs with great arms that can’t master the finer points of the position like reading defenses (Randall and Vick), accuracy (Donovan) and not turning the ball over (Vick). The new coach needs to keep Mudd because he is awesome and because you can’t bring in a new O line scheme now with these young guys or they will be done. Their only hope is to stay with Mudd. The whole defensive staff has to go. Washburn’s scheme won’t work here and the new guy will want his own guys anyway. How come Paulman and I are the only guys who realize what a bad hire Johnny Lynne was? Vick plays next year while they groom the new guy and he gets to play a few games when Vick forgets to slide or throw the ball after five seconds in the pocket. I start the FA negotiations right away with Shady and Maclin before you have a similar mess. D Jack see ya later. Hey Robert Meachem, I understand the Saints are too bust paying Colston and don’t have any money left for you. Plus I think you can start and they want you to be a back up. Let’s talk. Steve Smith go back to NY since thats where your heart is. Don’t let the door hit you. Now on defense. Bye Assante! I need that money for Shady and Maclin. Then I look around for any solid veterans that fit my new DC’s scheme without breaking the bank and I build through the draft with someone who actually knows how to do so. Our director of scouting needs to get shit canned too by the way.

Plan B. Keep Reid because the guy you may really want probably doesn’t want to come here with Vick unless you intend to draft HIS QB. Make Reid fire Juan as a condition of his continued employment and get a top notch DC. Still get rid of D Jack and Assante and re-sign Maclin and Shady before the season. Still go after Meachem at WR and solid veterans that the DC thinks fit his scheme.

Navy, That GB defense just won a superbowl…Lets be realistic, Im sure you played sports so you would know coming off an accomplishment like that is going to kill some of your hunger to go all out…players might not want to say it but its just true. On top of that, stats don’t tell the whole story. Teams are always down against GB. Their always passing on them getting cheap yards TDs etc at the end of games when GB is just trying to get out of the game healthy. You can’t ignore that.

Castillo has to go man, plain and simple. There is no point of even talking about him anymore. Anybody that has just watched the games and the plays/ formations that are called on D week after week would know that. Don’t know how many times on 3rd a 5 or on short third and goals I have seen this man call a defense having his corners line up 8-10 yards off the receivers on a backpedal when on top of that he knows they are incapable of coming up and making a tackle on a quick pass. I’m so done with this guy…Even if your a fan and still believe in him for some reason, well the players don’t which is evident by how they play on sundays which means there needs to be a change.

jbird

December 9, 2011 1:38 pm

Navy….The Pack and Pats while certainly not outstanding on defense suffer the fate of any team that is a scoring machine. They play soft with a big lead. They play aggressive and take chances with the big lead and give up big plays. Either way it is not uncommon for teams that score 35+ points per game to have poor defensive numbers. The Packers are still top ten in take aways though and (the stat you love) 17th in points allowed.

Now if you want to compare the defense to our pathetic bunch, you would have to start scoring points and stop turning over the ball. Our offensive potential has been vastly over rated based on the concept that Vick and D Jack are great players which they aren’t. We don’t have the offense to play defense that soft or loose. The other problem is that we don’t have play makers like Woodson and Mathews here. So hence no turn overs.

It’s funny when you look a previous SUper Bowl Winnters where the Teams Defenses are just not getting the Turnovers like the Seasons when the won it
the Steeler have created the least amount of Tunrovers in th NFL which is hard to believe but true, The year the Saints won it they were creating 2-3 Turnovers a game and scored something like 10-11 TDS on Defensive returns which again is a rarity and hard to duplicate.. Look at th ePAckers Denfese and they were making Sacks,INt’s and Funbles at a record pace and this year, they have not been creating them and their Defense has been pushed around and they definitely miss DT C Jenkins and MLB N Barnett no matter what they say, they also miss DT G Jolley who was arrested and a repeat offender and will be going to jail and probably will never play in the NFL again.

This Season in the NFC, you have to be able to score 33-34 Points + just to have a chance in beating the Packers or Saints.. I don’t see any other Offense in the NFC who is consistent enough to be able to score that many points in a Playoff type of Game and Atmosphere (maybe the Giants or Lions if they are hot) but teams like the 49ers,Falcons,Cowboys just don’t have the Offensive Firepower to keep up with these teams

“By the way, what was the last dumb thing I posted on here”….

Prolly in your last post man…Come on why would the Eagles trade down with a division rival so they could just gift wrap them an opportunity to obviously draft their QB for the next decade…Now that is just dumb.

pheag…exactly why I’m mystified as to why no one ever points out the fact that Lynne was a terrible hire that has failed everywhere he has been. Failed DC turned D Back coach. Experience is worthless if its bad experience.

Pheags – what happened last year had ZERO impact on this year (perhaps a quick refresher of the eagles 2004 verse eagles 2005) I was trying to make three points
1) GO READ THE ARTICLE – it had some decent info on the balance of offense verse defense in terms of winning SBs
2) this constant need among eagle fans to declare everyone ‘Needs ta go’ – well then you need to replace them – and is it really Castillo – and if you say yes – i am going to ask you the most basic of questions – have you sat down with a list of the plays called – and then watched film – if yo haven’t you are speaking directly out of your ass – I have seen many plays this year where a defender is in absolutley PERFECT position to make a play and just simply fails to execute – for example, the 2 TDs by Cruz in the first Giants game – in both – their were Eagle defenders RIGHT THERE – they didn’t make the play – the Lynch run against Seattle

So wait – Castillo wasn’t perfect in his first year – but read all the comment s about the talent level, money spent, ect etc about the Packers and it almost identical to the eagles – and Castillo has to go and the coordinator for the Pakcers doesn’t –

by the way – don’t know which Packers team ‘always being ahead’ and ‘teams always being down – they have exaclty 2 games out of 10 where th eother team was down and out – St L and early this year against Denver – guess you missed the opener against NO or that good one aginst the Giants last week – Tampa and San Deigo took them deep into the 4rth qtr –

point 3) winning hides a lot of fualts and losing exposes a lot of faults – if you have ever played a sport you know that – little things get overlooked and thing s’go better’ when you are winning a vice verse – the important thing – the SMART thing is to not react with emotion – sit down and look at each play over on film – what was the call – what was the play – its easy to say – 3rd and 5 and back pedaled and got a first down – what was the coverage – what was the call – was there a mna in motion – were the backs split out – is Asnate Samuel good in press – if you press everyone at the line – who is deep – to me just another typical – things aren’t going well so I am going to make something up so I can blame someone –

the whole team – players, coaches stink – getting rid of everyone os a great way to go – kind of like stripping a house down to rebuild it –

I will say the same thing i said last year since its the same friggin problem again.

1. Fire Andy OR AT VERY LEAST… take all D responsabilities away. All of them. He does not touch the draft… he does not get to speak at all about who the D cord is. Not a word.

2. Fire anyone who has anything to do with D on this team. Every coach, any trainers. New start. Juan- thanks for all your help, you’ve been a trooper. Andy messed you up. im sorry. bye bye.

3. Find a heart.
a. Make Jenkins and Cole the voice of your team. Find a MLB who can also speak. This is your heart boys.
b. Who is the voice on the O? Vick? no. Desean? No. Find one!
c. Your D cord better be a nasty angy man who can help with this.

btw- im not sold on brining in a Packers assistant for D Cord. We need to think like the Ravens, Steelers. We need angry. That would work best for our Div. No more flag football.

Pheags
The Eagles to move doen from #6 to #10 (4 spots) and come away with 2
3Rd Round Picks (most likely in #100 Range) for the next 2 Seasons would be a great move and I still think they get their big WR (M FLoyd) and bag a couple of Drafat Picks in meanwhile.. Blackmon will most likley go in the Top 5 for teams like the Rams,Browns & JAgs are desperate for a QB and the Redsksins would want to move up and stay ahead of othe teams in need of QB like the Dolphins,Seahawks,so they would be willing to giev up some Draft Picks to secure Barkely so all in all, I think it would be a good move

Stevo…agree with everything you said. EXCEPT for Trent Cole. Making him a leader would be like making me the DC. The guy lacks heart. He’s a mouse with no leadership abilities whatsoever. Glad when he is gone after next year. Of course we will have to find someone else who can play. But this time let’s get someone that plays for the WHOLE game and the WHOLE season not just the first three quarters of games up until Thanksgiving before he checks out to go hunting.

Does anyone know what Draft Picks the Eagles have for the 2012 Draft
I know they have 2 in the 2nd Round (1 from the Cardinals from the Kolb Trade) but I can’t seem to locate a list of what other additional Draft picks they have..

Paulman… we can get one starter at LB that new DC likes through FA. Nothing great. Just solid and knows the new DC’s scheme. Think Nate Wayne/Takeo Spikes. Rolle can play WILL again. I like him. He will put on a few pounds this off-season and the kid is hungry. We have pass rushers and corners (even without Assante who needs to go). We need to get better up the middle and we need guys that make plays and force turn overs.

A big DT would cover deficiencies at LB and S and sure up run defense. A great Mike would help all over starting with not missing tackles and leadership. A great S would force turnovers and sure up the middle and back of the defense. We need one of those three things in the first round and we absolutely have to hit this time.

Given that Rams and Jags need WRs and Skins, Dolphins and Colts want QBs, we shouldn’t have a lot of competition for defense except for Ariz.

This is a very deep Draft at LB and a very good one for CB’s & DT’s as well
It is not very strong at DE or the Safety postions
I do like Safety Mark Barron alot from Alabama (who will go between somewhere between the #15th and #25th Pick

CB probably has the Playmakers with M Claiborne from LSU and Dre Kirpatrick from Alabama.. Lots of good ILB and OLB as well..

Navy, if you think Castillo is the right man for the job next year and are proud of the job he has done on this defense then feel free to feel that way. I don’t. On top of that, a fan doesn’t need to sit in a room with him for hours with a list of all the plays he called to be allowed to have an opinion about the guy. Fitz being covered by a 2nd round safety that doesn’t even play all year when he was being blanketed by Nnamdi in the beginning of the game did it for me. I guess i just made up that coverage out of my ass like it didn’t even happen. Again if you have faith in the guy then thats fine. I feel different and want him nowhere near this defense next year. I think the O-line looks better this year without his HOF services as well so I hope they don’t give him his old job back either.

Knowing how strongly Lurie’s Wife really like’s Castillo and that’s all the counts
as far as who wears the pants in the Lurie household. The following 2 things will happen

#1) Coach AR remains HC only if hegets to keep Castillo as the D/Coordinator
#2) Coach AR resigns as HC (medical issues) and J Castillo becomes HC

pheags – please don’t do that – please do NOT think or imply for me – I have a wife at home that does that all the time – the only person I know today who wrote the words ‘castillo’ and ‘right man for the job’ in the same sentence was you!

I was trying to add to the conversation from yesturday – nothing more, nothing less – the article was on NFL.com if you want to read it, if you don’t that’s fine too –

and we will have to agree to disagree – an EDUCATED opinion would in fact involve EXTENSIVE film review – sorry but you made me do it today – as a former coach I learned within the first year to NEVER form an opinion about a player or a game until after I watched film – I rmember games where a kid had 2 picks and I thought he pllayed great – went back and watched the film – the guy I blamed for the two long TDs we gave up – were becuase the guy with the two picks wasn’t awere he was supposed to be – he was frequently out of position – you can’t see that during a game – and with the angles the TV provides – there is absolutley ZERo way to tell – but don’t let someone who coaches and is simply saying ‘slow down a second’ things might not be as they seem – deter you – you want him gome – your input to Lurie is about exaclty the same as mine!

NAVY-“have you sat down with a list of the plays called – and then watched film”

he does not have the right packages out there at the right time. Every O has packages (example 3 Wr’s, 1 Te, 1rb)- every D cord has to sub in the package to go with it. Castillo is often scambling to get em out there in time. In fact, at least 1 timeout was called because of this. Its basic and he’s bad at it.

The one thing I would say will be hard to do is keep both Nnamdi and Samuel as your starting CBs. The reason is because it’s not easy to play man on one side of the field and zone on the other. In most cases you play either or and these guys are polar opposites so their skill set may not be an ideal fit together. I can easily see them trying to trade Samuel (partly because of this, part because of his mouth and part because of his salary) and your starters are Nnamdi and DRC who both play best in man coverage. And it today’s league, you need to be able to play man coverage on the outside and make QBs make tough throws and WRs make tough catches. Good QBs rip up zone coverages. Not saying I would agree with this, but I believe it’s going to happen and may be the best thing in terms of matching players skillsets.
