UPDATED: Giroux Out of Line-Up with Concussion

The good news?  Claude Giroux has not shown any concussion symptoms after leaving the ice during the second period of the game on Saturday night.  UPDATED: The Flyers have announced Claude Giroux will be out indefinitely with a concussion. Once again, everyone that reported “Giroux is feeling better” and had some neck pains related to whiplash was incorrect.  Dave Isaac of Philly Sports Daily reported that Brayden Schenn and Andreas Lilja will be skating after practice is over, but there is no timetable for when Schenn can return either.

The bad news? He is dealing with neck pains as a result of “whiplash,” according to Tim Panaccio of CSNPhilly.

Giroux left the game after being kneed in the back of the head by Wayne Simmonds, which may have caused the injury.  However, as Crossing Broad pointed out, Giroux was involved in a minor car accident on Saturday morning outside the Wells Fargo Center.

There’s a distinct possibility that Simmonds only worsened the existing injury.  If it’s truly “just” whiplash, G may be back after a handful of days.

Regardless of the cause, Giroux will be out of the line-up on Tuesday against the Washington Capitals.  There is also a strong chance that he will be held out on Thursday against the Montreal Canadiens.

In the meantime, Sarah Baicker is reporting that Sean Couturier will move to the top line with Scott Hartnell and Jaromir Jagr while Zac Rinaldo, Jody Shelley and Harry Zolnierczyk will comprise what is looking like a very, very defensively liable fourth line.

Other than Pronger, he might be the only irreplaceable player that we have on this team. I hope they aren’t hiding a concussion again. Holmgren is a lying @$$.

I think I stated that Pronger shouldn’t have been counted on as much as he has been before the Season started and that he would be lucky to play in 40 games this Season.. He’s a Chase Utley on Skates, his body is completely breaking down and has had some bad forturne on top of that.. FlyBoys are in trouble with all these injuries..

Other guys have to step up now meaning Briere, JVR and Voracek. Top line will still score. The defense has been up and down. They look great and then someone makes a huge mistake that ends up being a goal. They can weather this storm. Being in 1st place at this point in the season was more than I expected.

Rather than calling Holmgren a liar, maybe you ought to check Panaccio’s record of reporting. Besides, Homer gains or loses nothing by being deceptive and you should know by now about concussions after what happened to Gagne a few years back and Lappy, Schenn, Crosby, and numerous others conditions can change day-to-day.
There are a lot of “irreplaceable” players on this team… Where can you pick up off the street or in AHL players like Jagr, Coburn, Talbot, Briere, Hartnell, Carle, Timmo, etc.? As Paulman and others stated, we’ll never know how much Pronger can help until he can get through at least a half-season with no more limiting stuff, and as we’ve seen and heard, the players aren’t waiting on his return… this is not last year’s group!

What a shame. Thank God, we have such good depth on this team. Homer gets all kudos for putting together such a good team of young guys. Especially after all of the wholesale changes he made. I might have been one of the only people on here that thought letting go Richards, Carter & Leino. Leino is a bum, & a product of being Briere’s line mate. Richards is overrated & Carter is a skating injury machine. Get well guys. Go Flyboys.

Also Jagr & Talbot are giving us way more than I thought, so far. Jagr looks like he never left the NHL. Talbot is a Philly player.
