What Will Jeffrey Lurie Have To Say Today? Is Reid’s Job Safe?

Normally Andy Reid meets with the media on the day after the team’s season concludes each year.  He normally meets with the media in between one-on-one exit interviews with his players.

If you’ve been around the Eagles football team during the 13 years that Reid has been running things, you know that he is a creature of habit and very rarely does he venture off the schedule.

The information which I just shared with you and the fact that Reid didn’t talk to the media yesterday is the reason that I’m very interested in what team owner Jeffrey Lurie is going to say today at 2;30pm.

Is he going to praise the job Reid did in going 8-8?  He had better not or he will infuriate a city full of Eagles fans. I think he’ll probably come down somewhere in the middle.

Is he going to fire Andy Reid?  Who knows maybe he considers the hiring of a totally inexperienced defensive coordinator as a fireable mistake.  Will he support his coach and fire defensive coordinator Juan Castillo?

Normally, Lurie doesn’t take center stage during the week after the season unless he’s getting ready to make a major announcement.

I’m also interested in why Reid didn’t meet with the media yesterday.  It’s strange.   Something must be up because Reid just doesn’t like to get off schedule if he can help it.

The whole organization needs to go away until after the playoffs are over. I don’t want to hear one more person say how well they are playing and how good they could have been in the playoffs.

Don’t know why but i think Reid will step down or take over as G.M.

I have a feeling Jeff Fisher and Spag will come back.

Lurie would do this to win back the fans and their interest.

Just a reminder, last year just after the 1st round loss AR indicated that Sean McDerrmott would return as his DC. Then Reid went on a “vacation”, was unavailable, and the team announced that McDerrmott had been fired.

Sounds like there may be more fireworks this off-season.

This interview is too early after the season for anything major to be announced, expect going into next year with the same structure in place, as Joe Banner said THREE yrs ago, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over an over an expecting a different result, oh how i wished he listened to hisself, i guess he must be insane.

Washburn and Mudd told players they hope to be back. i dont expect that to change today. I dont the birds are letting Andy walk unless he has asked to leave to take a job with SD. I feel profootballtalk would have found a leak if that was going to happen. All has been silent on the spags front… any chance they bring him in as soon as today? i feel he would not sign this fast- there are like 5 HC jobs open.

i do feel something big is coming tho. Im telling you- Jeff looked angry during the pats game. It did not sit well with him.

Lurie is going to state that the entire organization is not happy with this season’s results, however, due to the lack of OTA’s, they could have done better…..then he will talk about the past 4 games and how the team is finally playing the way they expected and they are excited for 2012….

if I had my chance to write his speech, it would be:

I am very disappointed with the outcome of this season…..we underachieved, played and coached poorly as a team and organization……
as a result, we are relieving Andy Reid and his entire coaching staff of their jobs and will be reassigning GM Howie Roseman to a position in the front office.

Effective immediately, we will be doing a thorough assessment of GM and head coach candidates and will bring the fans a Super Bowl title in 2012!

RT777…my comment stems from many statements coming from fans outside of the area that clearly do not listen to the coaches, players or commentators daily as those in the area. As soon as the game is over, we switch over to the post-game show and “re-hash” everything, listen to the press conferences, etc. listen to the Tuesday noon press conference. You have stated previously that you were a Yankees fan, so I believed that you lived in the NYC area. Fans from all over are great….the more eagles fans the better, and just because someone lives in the area doesn’t mean that they are any better or worse a fan…but being close geographically does give a fan a better feel for where the overall feelings for the team and organization are moving. I find it hard for any fan of the Birds to have listened to the flippant responses that Reid made during his last press conference and not believe they were being disrespected as Pete had suggested.

There really isn’t anything the Eagles can do about moving forward next year. Hiring a new defensive coordinator will do as much harm as good most likely. Its more change. Next year will probably be Reid’s last when this team finishes 9-7 and out of the playoffs again. But then we are looking at rebuilding. Here is the situation. There are no coaching moves you can make that are going to make this team a SB contender. There simply are not any FA LBs or safeties out there that you could pry away from their current teams that respresnt a significant upgrade. So that leaves you with the draft. Do you really think Roseman and Reid can give you a big bang through the draft. You don’t get elite DTs with the 15th pick unless you are lucky. They will be afraid of Burfect if he is available. Kuechly is a Mike Patterson at MLB in the NFL. Solid but never a PB caliber player. Better than Chaney but not someone that will make this defense significantly better. They won’t draft a safety in the first round because of their “investment” in Allen and Jarrett. God forbid you just admit that you screwed up and have a second round pick on the bench. The personnel moves that need to be made just aren’t going to be obtainable because there are no FAs and they can’t draft. The future is not bright.

If I were GM, I would let D Jack walk and waive Assante. That frees up money to get Shady and Maclin extended for next five years. I get them extended before FA starts and re-sign Mathis at LG before FA starts. Then I would go hard after Bowe in FA or settle for Meachem if I couldn’t get Bowe. You would think Bowe would be willing to leave the wasteland that is KC for a perennial playoff contender. But they may lock him up before FA starts. In the draft I would make Burfect my first pick and then try to trade back inot the late first round with my Arizona pick and draft a safety. Thats the best I can come up with.

Reid is DONE. The only time Laurie does a news conference is if he’s firing the coach. He didn’t even do a news conference when he fired Tom Modrak. While I’m not a Reid fan this obviously is not great news…it means that in the war between Reid and Roseman…Howie Roseman, the Juan Castillo of the front office, won and Redskin style fantasy football will be front and center in Philly for a good while.

Look at Reid’s resume, look at Roseman’s resume and decide for yourself which was the lesser of two evils.

I feel like my man Stevo. i just feel suckered into believeing this team will win a superbowl. I spend my hard earned money on their shit every year well no more.I dont see it guys i just dont. The owner is insane, the coach is and the front office and you know they are stop lying to yourself. Think about this: they are playing on the fact we are starvng for a super bowl so bad that they can lie to us and say they are all in becasue we are loyal fans. but were does that get us? laughed at thats were. They say they want a superbowl but dont act like it by doing the same thing over and over.(insanity). Remember they let go great players and say it is a business decision right/ so what would stop them from just being ok with making the playoff so they can hang a white rag over our eyes while they stick in our ass no grease. it a BUSINESS first to mr. lurie and they will advertise trash as the best thing for you becasue they know we will eat it. we are like abunch of fat people WANTING to believe a pill will make us skinny. We want to beleive we will win a championship under Reid so bad we eat the shit they put out for us. well im on a Eagles diet and i dont eat bird anymore. Until they prove to us they are not insane do not buy into any of they bullshit. This is why other fans across the leauge laugha t us. They been making the same moves for 13 years and we still go out and scream SUPERBOWL. our front office sucks and they are jsut as soft as some of the players. jbird: Mathis is DEEP FRIED DOO DOO as is the rest of the interior O-Line. Mathis/Mudd are responsible for Michael Vick’s broken ribs. Mathis is also responsible for countless Vick hits in the pocket this year. 2010’s O-Line was bad 2012’s O-Line was putrid. McCoy was successful in spite of not because of anything the O-Line did. Barry Sanders, in his prime, is the only other running back that could get positive yards behind this O-Line.

atra1781
January 3, 2012 12:44 pm

The o-line was bad early but got better. Vick needs to cut down on bad throws and they need to run the ball more….Asoshmuga was not used right and Cromartie looked average. Sign Jackson to a new deal and bring in Fisher.

O-lines fine…Mccoy had 800 plus yards before contact. Some of his runs he had holes i could run through.Thats the oline. Your assesment on the oline is poor at best.FYI…d-lineman are tough to block every play…sometimes qb’s get whacked.

Howie Roseman is really a front for Joe Banner, It’s not AR vs Roseman..
It’s AR vs Banner and it always has been as their is no love lost between them… I’ve been stating this for 3 years to deaf ears.. Banner has made it more and more diificult for AR to do his job effectively any longer.. He pushed out Close AR freind Tom Hekert who took care of a lot of grunge work for Ar as far as Drafting/Scouting/PLayer Personnel Issues… Banner tossed him out and wanted his man (Roseman) to be calling these shots to pull more athority and power from AR.. I think when AR incidence with his kids really woke up Banner about the fact that the Eagles had no real structure in the even if anything happened to Reid whether he quit, health or family reasons and Banner made it damn sure that one of his yes people (Roseman) was going to be heavily involved on Football matters… It’s been a pattern where it was Banner who failed to reach an agreement or even reach out to Dawkins, It was Banner who felt the Eagles were McNabbed out and needed to go, It was Banner who pushed for the “Vick-Factor” and I am not saying that these were all poor decisions, but what I am saying is that AR had little or no choice in these matters which has pissed him off behind closed doors and has began to erode that “Coach in complete-charge” persona that AR has has enjoyed for many years..
I believe if AR is relieved of his Coaching Duties, than that’s it for him, he cannot remain and be the GM or VP of Operations, If he is not their Coach, then he is not part of the Franchise any longer…
Should be an interesting next couple of weeks around the NFL and at the NovaCare Center, many moving parts, GM’s, Coaches, Players…Stay tuned

scram – “the same thing over and over again” – how can you say that after such a season of change – many are saying that the ‘excuse’ was all the changes and short time to gel – so…again.. lots of changes.

This team has done anything but the same thing over and over again. And that expression about insanity is FALSE – that’s NOT the definition of insanity.

This was the Best O/Line the EAgles have had since the early Tra Thomas/Runyan Years by a mile, not even close.. This OL I thought did a pretty damn good job after about the 1st month of the Season and was the Teams most consistent unit and biggest Strength on the Offensive Side of the Ball.. For everyone of McCoy dazzling cut backs, there were countless times where he had 4-5-6 yards of daylight if he followed the play called

Speaking of Runyan – Congressman Runyan is coming by my work place for a staff visit –

speaking of insanity – and this is serious here – what is up with the world – I live in a great neighborhood – and now 2X in the past 6 months – I take my dog for a walk and come up on murder investigatiion scenes – first – that lady gets all naked and hangs herself (or so they say) 5 blocks from my house – then new yaers day – walking the dog, (go past said hanging place) and turn to go for the Starbucks run and the street is closed off – and 4 people (2 young officers) are shot and dead – what the hell is wrong with the world? The girl was a high school volleyball coach – so my girl knows her…. just messed up –

schiller, can you ever just say to someone “good point” or “lets agree to disagree.” You act like you are right about everything and all you do is berate people’s points. I realize some fans get carried away with negativity but they’re right about some of the things they complain about. If they weren’t, we’d have a Lombardi trophy and at the very least, would have made the playoffs this year. You don’t have to make excuses for everything the front office or team does (or doesn’t do).

No deaf ears here Pman, I know your statements about Banner…I have also believed that AR’s organizational power has been decreasing since his “leave of absence” with the trouble of his sons…Banner took advantage of the situation and if you look at the Birds revord since, we have had a less successful team. Heckart being pushed out for Roseman…McDerrmott being fired while Reid is on “vacation”…I would guess that this afternoons Laurie press conference will show the direction of Banners plan, not Reids.

btc – fyi, I used to be a very frequent visitor to the team’s site (but I rarely ever go there for anything beyond roster and stats information now) this was before I found this site, and I got turned off/tired of it by Spadaro. He really irks me for several reasons, but one of them being that he doesn’t even allow for the possibility of criticims of a player or coach. And fyi as well – the message boards on the team’s website are just as ‘balanaced’ as this site – have you seen them? There’s more to that website than spadaro.
