This Isn’t The Time To Let DeSean Jackson Walk

I talked to an NFL source who is very familiar with the Eagles passing game and he said, “The Eagles are doomed if they let DeSean Jackson get away.  They’ll be losing the most explosive, big-play receiver in the game.”

I couldn’t agree with him more.  I think the Eagles have got to hang onto speedy wide receiver DeSean Jackson. I know his numbers were down last year and I know about how small he is, but I think his absence negatively affect the play of Michael Vick, LeSean McCoy and Jeremy Maclin.

If they don’t keep Jackson around, it will mean smaller windows for Vick to throw into, meaning the safeties will be lining up closer to the line of scrimmage which less area to throw the short and intermediate passes.  Without Jackson, the Birds will have to rely more on their short and intermediate game.  Teams will move up their coverages.

Remember that the Eagles were one of the most productive offenses in the league with Jackson.  Yes they turned the ball over too much this past season, but they moved it on everybody.  Will they be as productive without him?  I don’t think it’s worth trying to find out.

One of Vick’s strengths is throwing the deep ball. There’s not a better deep receiver in the league than Jackson.  They belong together.  It just make sense.

It’s one of the reasons teams aren’t able to get their safeties involved in stopping McCoy and the Eagles running game.  The combination of Jackson and McCoy puts teams in a bind.  Should move up the safeties to help on McCoy and run the risk of Jackson getting behind them?  They usually decide that No is the better answer and they keep their safeties deep which makes McCoy’s job much easier.

I don’t think Maclin will be nearly as effective as the number one guy, as he has been as the number two guy.  I know you say that Maclin has caught more passes than Jackson in the last two years, so maybe he’s the number one receiver.  I would disagree with that passionately.  When defenses prepare for the Eagles they don’t game plan to stop Maclin, they focus their attention on stopping the home run hitter, Jackson.

I’m concerned that if teams are able to focus on Maclin and game plan for him, it will make his job much harder and limit his production.

I can understand your arguments about Jackson’s inability to be a major factor in the red zone and I would agree with it, but nobody stretches the field like the “Little Guy”.  He’s one of the keys to the Birds “Fast Break Offense” with his speed and the speed of McCoy, Maclin and Vick.  They can explode at any point of the game.

We’re going into a season where Andy Reid’s and Vick’s jobs will be on the line, I think Reid will be fighting with all the status he has in the organization to at least franchise Jackson.  If they let Jackson walk, it will mean putting Vick, McCoy and Maclin in a new situation with more demands on them.

Vick will have to produce without the best deep receiver in the game, McCoy will have to run the ball against a defense with the safeties moved up to stop the run and Maclin will have to produce against defenses which are designed to stop him.

I agree that Coach Ar and the Eagles need him for 2012, I could see them Franchising him but not a long deal at crazy money
It very well could be the final Season for many of the Eagles and Coach ar and his Staff if they underperform again in 2012
They still need a legitimate big physcial WR who can produce in the RedZone
I’ve alwys stated that D-JAx playing 40 Snaps a game would post simliar # ‘s as he does playing 60 Snaps a game.. I would have him on the Sidelines once inside the Red-Zone, with the lack of field and space to cover for the Defensive Secondaries along with D-Jax’s small stature and inability/unwillingness to fight for th ball, he’s about useless from the 25 yard line and in.. Eagles need a proven Big Target WR who can excell in the Red-Zone

I worry that DJax won’t be very happy with the franchise tag and will continue to play scared since he won’t have a long term deal in place. I think there was actually more incentive for him to play hard and fight for an extension last year than there will be this upcoming year. But I also agree that he’s one of the key ingredients with this offense so I feel like we’re damned if we do, damned if we don’t.

G I agree we should keep DJax. We should also sign Vincent Jackson or Plaxico Burres to help us in the Red Zone. In addition, we need a power (big) running back to go with McCoy. On the defense we need a safety, experienced linebacker and another defensive tackle. If we make these moves we will be a Super Bowl contender. I still don’t like Juan at DC, however, if he fails then this will be Reid’s last year. For some reason I feel Reid will coach better especially now that Lurie finally is adding some pressure for the Birds to make the playoffs.

I don’t think we need a big runing back. There is no one I feel more confident about when picking up a critical yard or two than Lesean McCoy. The problem is that Reid and Co try to get all cute with the play when it’s 3rd and short.

Don’t worry guys……..

Chad Hall is in his 3rd year and Andy says “The young guy is getting better”.

“He’s almost Reno Mahe…..and you know how I like midget, slow, fastballs to throw at opposing defenses”.

“Chad gets in an crank it up with another year helping the scout team”.

“We’re fine there.”

Djax will make more $$$ in 2012 wIth a “Franchise Tag” and he and his Agent would prefer it.. If he puts up Big #’s for the 2012 Season and maybe get a Pro-Bowl Nomination, that would increase his value big time for his next Contract. The Eagles lose leverage by placing a Franchise Tag on him for that’s what he and his Agent would prefer to maximize D-Jax Salary for 2012..

hell with.

What’s new?

Let’s put Djax on the pile heap of pro bowlers we decided not to pay. There’s another team that will pay him and you can believe that.

Maybe the Saints…Now, that’s a team with vision.

We’re so good that we’re probably the only team that can decide not to take risks to upgrade our team.

Let’s go down to the philadelphia boys choir and recruit a few alter boys to fill the much needed character roster championship teams covet.

We don’t need excitement like Djax brings….The Todd Pinstons of the world will do fine..and for those who are talking about Vincent Jackson….What have the Chargers done lately?

The Eagles can let Djax go if they want but we’ll still have Andy.

Andy is the straw that stir the Martini.

Ive been to this site a couple of years now, but I have never commented on a post before. However, I felt the need to on this one.Djax has made the Eagles’ offense special over the last couple of years, but I wouldnt say the offense would fold without him. Yes he spreads the field, he’s great in the return game, he makes spectacular plays, but it wont be the end of the world. Remember when the cowboys let go of T.O., everybody said their offense would suffer. But it didnt; they beat the Eagles 3 times. When patriots lost Moss, people thought their offense would falter a little but instead its gotten more effecient. If the coaches cant win without Djax, they should be fired. We should get an veteren linebacker especially if Curtis Lofton hits the market plus veteren Strong safety. With our first round pick we should get either Michael Floyd or Kendall Wright

wow – idiots on parade –

Ozzman – as I have written, posted and stated many times – how much MORE money would Lurie make and how much MORE valuable woudl the team be if they won the super bowl – your comment is just moronic frustration – if he ONLY cared about money – he would be doing everything he could to win – you know – hire coaches that cheat – good players with multiple arrests… you know – put profit over everything else – try and come up with a new lame ass line

BTC – try and get with 2010 and 2011 – the issue you are discussing is so 2009 – Eagles ran the ball effectively on third and fourth and short last year – go check football outsider – they have a statistic called Power Success: – Eagles ranked 6th in NFL –

and lastly my favorite idiot of all time Songs – Really – all the issues in the world and you have to pick on Chad HAll – really – what did that dude ever do but bust his ass to play four years of DI ball at the Air Force Academy – your boy played at Temple – think there are slightly more rigid academic standards at the two? Think maybe having to wear a uniform, have a clean room, summers off doing training? Guy was still a DI conference Offensive player of the year… that bastard – then – holy shit – he gets out and serves in the Air Force for two years.. then – oh my god – he gives pro football a shot and makes the roster as the 53rd player… and now some know nothing, constantly whining douche wants to say negative shit about him – because why? How many pass TDs you got in the NFL hoss? You ever stood there catching punts with 11 guys coming down to take your head off? For the price of a 53rd player – the Eagles get a 4rth RB, a 6th WR, a back up punt returner, a back up kick returner, and a special teams player –

your so freaking smart – why don’t you give the rest of us another player that can fill all those rolls.. cause other then whine – and complain – never really read much from you –

Chad HAll is a guy every fan and player should look up to and try to emulate – in a world of self indulged spoiled athletes – here is a guy that shows up and works his ass off just to stay on the team – and some shit disparages him on a blog for what purpose – get a life man – he is the 53rd player on the roster –

Times yours –

This isnt Moneyball….Colston doesnt replace Djax production. FYI..noone does. You can spin it however you want bro. Think about what he does to the defense? You dont think they can roll up a corner in Colstons face and take away his short routes? Hes a beast and love his game but he doenst replcae the intangibles #10 brings.

Does he make the defense feel like if they make a mistake a 70 yard td could fly over there head? NO.

Does he draw the entire defense up on a fake end around leaving Celek wide open on a te dump? No.

Does he walk around with a swagger like i can beat whatever corner you put on me? No. i like that…..i liek a player on our team that lets thed know hes gonna smoke em. We need that!! Championship teams have that…either on defense or offense.

He’s been nothing but a playmaking stud since he started his rookie year and cause of some b.s. concussion that even Hakeem Nicks woulda sufered he’s not worth a new deal to make this offense not skip a beat? Its your opinion if you disagree…entitled to it..but i gotta tell ya,your not thinking about the flow of the offense early next year.

There is not one reciever in the league(FA) who comes in and doesnt change the way the offense works. You really tryna hear the Walrus use that excuse when we’re 2-2?

Hey look…its gonna take some time here man….we have some new pieces and we’re getting adjusted…i try and look at that as a positive man.Times yours.

They have plenty to ink Jax andShady….Sante’s money is gone and the cap trophy winners will get that right.

Erock “He’s been nothing but a playmaking stud since he started his rookie year and ” – uh, you been around this past year? Your statement is incorrect.

That ‘swagger’ you love is arrogance and he himself admitted that it caused him to be a punk this year.

Dude, if they (meaning him and the team) can work out a deal and he stays – I think we’ll all be happy. But if they can’t. Or if they can’t while also resigning McCoy, then you’ll have to keep your man crush under wraps…

But clearly you’re a bit blinded by your love – the dude’s ego and arrogance messes with his game and the team – everyone else can see that – why not you?

Erock — saying you love a man’s swagger is another way of saying you’re attracted to him.

I love how people think with their heart instead of with their brains. It’s the same people that wanted to keep McNabb past his prime. The truth is that Deseans production can be replaced and I would even say that a guy like Colston or Bowe could produce more, especially in the redzone.

Desean has done great things for us, I appreciate that from him……but if he were to go, my feelings wouldn’t be hurt.

I personally think we can be more efficient as an offense with a bigger receiver with better hands.

Nice try on Bowe or Colston…noway they replace what he does for the squad.Everyone else sees that why dont you? Thats right…i dont care if you dont. Its your opinion…they’re like hearts….everyone has one.

I dont see that because i dont care enough to comment about it. I have coached athletes and unless your not backing it up then its ok with me and to most coachs. Sometimes its over the top but that comes with the terrirory. No probs when Dawk was flexing after making a routine tackle. That sends a message.

Our qb has one of the best deep balls in the league…why not get rid of the fastest reciever in the league so we can throw 10 yards hooks?

Let D-JAx walk

Eagles Signed WR/Returnman MArdy Gilyard after the Season
He can be your Punt Returner and your 5th WR and specialize on deep routes and end-arounds
Eagles then go out and sign Free-Agent Robert Meachem who would be a 60-70 Catch 800-1000 yd WR that isn’t a diva ad nwon’ tbreak the bank and from a winning team/organization in New Orleans)
Eagles then Draft a big WR like a Brian Quick, Al Toon, Mel McNutt who are all 6-3 and bigger to develop

These 3 Players (Meachem, Gilyard and a Draft PIck) would have much more production than D-Jax and add a toughness and Professionalism to the Team
and the Team would be better off in my opinion

and there is a huge differnece of being self confident and be arrogant/immature
Brian Westbrook was a player of Self Confidence, he didn’t have to yap, yap, yap all the time, and beat his chest like he was SUperman..#36 went out and did his job to the best of his ability, to help the Team and improved himself in all areas of the game as he progressed thru his career as a True Professional ..
I see very little of these characterisitcs in D-Jax, In fact,he’s regressed and has become a very sloppy route runner, his hands have gotten worse and his field vision is limited anymore for he doesn’t want to get hit and looks to go down more than looking downfied to make something happen..

In the words of my Vice President of Excellence Paulman, and in agreement with my man Erock….I have stated before, that letting DeSean Jackson walk would be stupid. Period. Marcus Colston, and Vincent Jackson have benefited from having better QB’s…and you cannot guarantee, the same production on the Eagles. Paulman, I agree they do need a Bigger Red Zone Threat, but not the big names. They have to do something they have really never done, upgrade through a total successful draft. The GM’s choice would be Brian Quick from Appalachian State, other than that there are no other issues with the receiving corp. Please stop with the drafting of a WR, in the 1st Round…ARE YOU SICK!!! The first picks should be LB’s, almost on the level of urgency that they used when they drafted Lito, Sheldon, and Michael Lewis. They also need help at DE…I’ve stated before, that Whitney Mercilus, would be my target, as 1 of the 3-#1’s, that I would get for this team. We need more draft picks..Sign DeSean, Mathis, Mario Williams, London Fletcher, A.J Feeley and Haynesworth. Trade Asante, and #2, and #4 in 2014, to the Cleveland Browns, for their 2nd #1, and trade down to get another #2. Trade down from #15, to get another #2…Trade Brandon Graham, and our #1 in 2013 to the Bengals, for 1 of their 2 #1’s…Giving us 3- #1’s, and 4- #2’s. Then continue to trade down in second to acquire 2 more 3rd rounders………..GMCliff’s Mock Draft w/ trade results…..

@ Jake…we all know that there is some bias in Navy’s comments, so noboby should be suprised by his comments. Using his logic, we should field a team of Service Academy players and the SB would be a sure thing. He is correct that Hall is the 53rd player on the roster, but that would call into question the percentage of actual plays this OC has called for him in critical situations…way too many in the red-zone for my liking…but really, why are we talking about Chad Hall in Feburary, certainly not as a realistic replacement for DJax.

Regarding DJax, I think that the FO will get something worked out. I am concerned about Rosenhaus…and if I’m not correct, he is also Shadey’s agent…but I believe they will get something done.

I am 48 Erock and think the swag is BS and especailly since no one on this team has won anything yet.(except for C Jenkins) What’s to swag about.. A First Down Catch, A TD Catch.. These are highly Paid Professionals in highyly competitive Sport wher erisk, contact is part of the game an who knows how long any player can stay healthy.. Many on this Team haven’t even won a PLayoff Game yet as an Eagle, so yes, to me I don’t the Swag/showboarting and wasting energy on things that don’t count or matter when trying to win games.. High-fives, fist pumps a pike of the ball sure.. But the stupid crap we’ve seen from the core group and the supposed leaders leaves a lot to be disired..
I do like McCoy/Avant/Maclin for the most part just do their JOb, but Vick,D-Jax and what’s with Celek, nearly every 1st Down Catch he makes he has to give the 1st Down sign, C’Mon Man… he should be more mature than that being around as long as he has…

@ Paulman – My objective in the draft is to draft player that can put us in a position to have the luxury, and flexibility of playing both the 4-3, and 3-4 defenses. With my draft, we would have the talent in place, as well as, depth, and an upgrade in youth of the team…At some point of time we are going to have to move on from Babin, and Cole, and we really need talent at the linebacker.position. I chose to draft Sean Spence, as my SS. He reminds me of Dawkins, with better coverage skills, and much more speed. …I would like the head coach next year to be able to implement that. The offensive linemen, provide, depth, youth, nastiness, physicality, and talent. The Corners infuse athleticism, speed, and physical play that can learn from the veterans. I like the idea of having DT’s that can actually rush the QB, Cullen Jenkins, is getting older, and has been injury prone in the past. I like having the insurance of talent in that position. Add the veterans, and all the rookies don’t have to produce right away, and can be gradually brought along to max their abilities.

Look guys let’s be for real here. You guys are on here discussing DJax as if you’re talking about an organization that actually knows how to win championships.

We as Eagles fans have come to get use to the annual bone head move this organization makes spirals into football hell.

Not signing Trotter in his prime which singled handed lead to a 350 pound linebacker Levon Kirkland on the downside of his career coupled with Blaine Bishop off the scrap heap to replace the better Damon Moore who the Eagles refused to pay.

Result?

Lost the NFC championship and an opportunity for a Superbowl appearance based off of those poor off season moves. Remember?

Remember haggling with a key leader in Hugh Douglas who was on the downside but nonetheless had the authority to will others on the line to excel?

Inject….Jerome McDougal who the Eagles traded up to get.

That cost us big time and eventually Douglas was brought back after cashing in with the Jags.

Too little too late.

How did the haggling with Carlos Emmons go?

But he didn’t complain getting his money with the Giants and a championship ring to boot.

Haggled Dawk leaking he lost a step….

Still haven’t come close to replacing an old Dawk who was the heart of the defense.

Not to mention the Haggle with Sheldon Brown who was willing to move into the Safety position vacated by Dawk being a serious hitter himself..

But the Eagles couldn’t reward another vocal leader of the defense.

Inject?

Ellis (Hobbling) Hobbs which eroded the right corner position..We all knew QB’s would throw there and we all knew what the outcome would be.

Touchdown!

Hell, I already forgot trading out of the 1st round to a division rival to grab garbage Kolb when everyone knew how much another weapon was needed.

Now, that costed big time no matter how much apologist try to play it off with the value we received through trade.

How could a future trade help a team that need production now?

The Eagles is a reactionary organization instead of the winning attitude that comes with being proactive.

They create the problem in the offseason which cost the season then use the future to cover the holes they’ve created.

The proverbial (Hamster on the wheel) syndrome.

I didn’t even mention the Segrest debacle, Andy shuffling this loser around just to keep his buddy working while he destroys every position allocated to him in his path.

Did Andy Learn anything from past self inflicted losing seasons without a SB?

Hell to the No!

He promotes the coach of one of the worse performing offensive lines in the league at that time to “Defensive Coordinator”, and yet we’re here wondering what we should do with Desean Jackson?

That’s the problem.

After finally getting a game breaker at the position post T.O., who have gone to 2 pro bowls on a 2nd round rookie contract.. The 1st player to have ever been voted to the pro bowl playing 2 positions.

Why is this even a discussion?

A winning organization would have immediately took care of a guy with these credentials…

Wouldn’t they?

Only in Philadelphia….. and the shame part of this is that the fans are so use to losing they have begun to think like our losing Philadelphia Eagles Brass.

Losing is an attitude and any fan who would just do away with a 2 time pro bowler in the prime of his career is a loser.

wow OZ – you got me there – a billionairee owner using slang – proves you case to a gnats ass – another mental Giant you are – owner sez Tournamnet vice SB – wow – case closed – yep – tornament vice SB – wrapped that one up – you must write for CSI……

and OZ – as for the record – what does that have to do with next year??? Anything??? Nothing – can’t dispute that either – so – got anything relevant? Decision is already made on the coaches for next year – highest paid staff in NFL – can’t dispute that – if Lurie was really cheap he could have hired some just out of college rookie DC he could have paid much less – cuase your whole (stupid) point is that Lurie is about the almighty dollar right? It all about making profits and the playoffs – that is your quote right –

Thats your problem…you and the rest of the mind contoll tools on here wanna determine a guy getting fired up. Mccoy dances after every td. He talks sh!t to the d-line man tryna tackle him. Its no different. Mikes won p-off games? Forget the swag term. Just call it confidence….and your point is unless you’ve won a p-off game and made the pro-bowl you cant play with that? Look at the Giants receiver Vic Cruz….during the Niners game he was all over the place with the strut…and the confidence. No why? Cause he felt good about his ability. In coaching you tell players….you should be excited about a big play…you should let the guy know you beat him. Be a pro…dont cross a line. If you feel good let everyone around you know it…thats football.Ultimate game of emotions and violence. Sometimes i think you and the others who bash Desean for strutting around after scroing a 80 yard td have ever accomplished anythign in sports? They’ve worked there whole life for this proffesion. Do what ya need to do.

Again….team doesnt mind…so why should us fans who root for these guys do it?

Last time i checked mister praise the sky after a catch dropped two balls that cost us a game. Maclin cost us a game. Mr Cullen jenkins and his linemates got ran over during the Seahawks game.Guess there confidence didnt help?

You’re a f’n moron. What do you coach? Pee Wee football? If so, I feel bad for the future of football with the narcisstic divas you’re producing.

The late great and best coach of all time Joe Paterno would slap you twice if he read what you just wrote.

Wonder if i’d report it or not?

Illl let you continue to run your jibs and insult cause it makes you feel smarter. But so does hanging out with toddlers.

Bill Bellichick tells his players that bro. Get hyped and be excited you did a great job. It’s no different in the pros.

Point is he celebrates after a big play.Did he learn his leasson this year? Sure. Does he add something to the team with his ability to let a team know he just got em and will do it again later? Yes.

And only a f’n moron would believe Marques Colston comes in and makes this offense go like #10 would. Go do a crossword puzzle or play words with friends afterbirth.
