Babin Wants To Run With The Bulls

Pro-Bowl defensive end Jason Babin has been the topic of discussion since his return to practice on Wednesday. Babin, who missed the first week of the Eagles OTAs, has announced his plans to run with the bulls in Spain in July.

“It’s kind of a rite of passage,” Babin said after practice on Wednesday. “It’s a stamp. I guess in my brain I have a figurative ‘man card’ that’s got certain punches that need to be punched out.”

Babin already marked off one feat on his to-do list last week in Cold Bay, Alaska. The defensive end embarked on a 12-day bear hunting trip that forced him to miss practice last week because the inclement weather delayed his flight back home.

“I’m upset I missed [practice] because . . . I don’t miss stuff,” Babin said. “I think [the Eagles] were really concerned like, ‘Where is he?’ because my phone didn’t work.”

As if his bear-hunting expeditions weren’t enough to worry the Eagles front office, the thought of Babin running with the bulls might give Andy Reid a heart attack. Although it is not forbidden by his contract with the Eagles, allowing my Pro-Bowl defensive end to participate in one of the most dangerous events in the world would grant me little rest at night. With the season-ending injury to offensive tackle Jason Peters, and off-field injuries becoming more frequent amongst athletes in general, I would strongly discourage Babin from running in his own neighborhood, let alone with a 1,000 pound animal on his heels.

In an effort to comfort those of us concerned about his safety, Babin offered somewhat of a scouting report on the bulls. “Bulls can’t turn the corner on cobblestone, so as long as you’re on the inside you’re going to be all right,” Babin said. “I broke the tape down like game film.”

The Eagles have not publicly stated their opinion on Babin’s extracurricular plans, but let’s hope that Andy Reid and the front office can keep him from going to Spain next month.

Lot’s of other ways to prove your manhood other than participating in some Spanish rite of passage… ways of the heart, the inner man that require absolutely no physical challenge. Grow up Babin!

Ley him run, he’s a big boy and can handle himself.. Now if he’s going to miss camp time, then I would dock his pay for the amount of time missed and keep plugging Graham,,Curry,Tapp,Hunt and even Fletcher Cox at his DE position
I believe this will be Babin’s final Season anyways with the Eagles if Graham ends up being the real deal..

He should show his manhood by stopping the run, not running with the bulls.

Haha yea BigE, i agree… He may not realize it and ive been saying this from the start of OTAs, his job can be taken and i think it may be. There are so many good quality DE’S behind him that are hungry, that are capable of stopping the run, Babin is starting to look like a one trick pony, if its not attacking the QB than hes ineffective because he cant stop the run effectively. Maybe hes improved over the offseason and plans to show it this year, but throughout his career that has never been one of his strong areas. Lets hope he can this year, but like i said if he cant, there are guys like graham, curry, Hunt and Tapp who will do it., and i think eventually one of these guys will take his job, maybe sometime this year.
