Utley Makes First Start At Second Base

Chase Utley has been getting a number of at-bats over the last few weeks, but had been avoiding the field, playing exclusively as a DH. On Monday, the second baseman finally felt good enough to give the field a try, playing six innings at in the field for the first time in his rehabilitation program.

Utley had a successful game in the field, making three strong defensive plays to catch three runners stealing. He also went 1-4 at the plate, and drove in a run.

There’s no word on whether Utley will start in the field again today, or be given rest to see how his knees respond. He is in the middle of a 20-day rehab assignment, meaning the latest he can return to the major leagues is July 2nd.

How did Chase Utley ruin the Phills? Was it his job to stock the minors with “some” talent for when we needed it? Or was it his job to keep a 4-0 lead in a crucial p-of game. It’s a team game.Chase helped us end the title drought in this area. With all due respect DCar…your angle is off and you need to re-measure.

Agreed. Dude is doing his best to get back on the field and I respect that. He may not be the player that he was, but I would rather have him over Galvis, Martinez or Fontenot. I know that isn’t saying much, but I look forward to him coming back.

If you only knew …. Tell me car do you ever enjoy a game? Are you a fan? Are you just a frustrated x jock that didn’t make it? Because no one that’s played or coached would talk like you… NO ONE

I love the Phillies. I get ticket packages every year. I worked for the Phillies for 15 years. The only frustrations I have, are with @$$holes like you, who can’t deal with reality. AS I STATED A MILLION TIMES, SOMEONE CAN BE A FAN & STILL CRITICIZE THEM & TELL THE TRUTH. I choose to have a free mind & free thinking, not be a BLIND LOYALIST, STEPFORD! If you can’t handle the truth, or the facts, thats not my problem. BTW, I’m no bitter X jock. The reason I didn’t get past college, is I severely tore up my knee, my senior season, & had to quit & go to work for family reasons. So quit with your CLUELESS guesswork. YOU KNOW ZIPPIDY DO DA! Quit your cluelessness, already. FOOL. ALSO, me playing baseball most of my life, I think gives me A LITTLE knowledge, about the sport.

my bad D. I should have moved my finger over 5 millimeters over to the ‘d’ key.

Seriously no disrespect to you or your mother.

My point is, you express yourself with an unusual amount of rage/passion/extremely aggresive tone. It’s just what you do.

Bottomline…Chutley didnt ruin the team.Thats just a ridiculous and off base comment. Theres zero fact backing that and it cant be argued to be true.Unless its to a group of 3rd graders.

I pre-face my comments with “all due respect” cause talking junk to one another and not showing some respect is unsportsmanlike.Regardless oF what you’ve done in the sports arena or in life…we all know about the same thing.

It’s not his fault particularly, but he deserves crap as does halladay. These 2 guys are “too tough to be hurt” players… and the fact that utley has been hurt for 2 years and never said to someone “yo, I may not play until the middle of the year” for sure hurts the team… they could of signed someone to play 2nd base until he comes back.

Same with roy, you know he’d never say he was hurt… and his shoulder probably has been bothering him since spring training, but never wanted to say anything.

You can love these guys, but their own pride has cost the phillies the last 2 seasons… they need to just stop being so “tough” and tell people when they are injured.

Great post Erock. Looking forward to seeing a healthy Chase in the line-up.

Sorry Zoltek, injuries are apart of professional sports. These athletes are expected to play through injuries. Besides, if their play isn’t productive -hurt or not- it’s the job of the manager and top brass to evaluate their role and do what’s best for the team. Not the players who have been conditioned to play through pain.

Wonder If I am still the only one that suspects Utley was a user of HGH/PED’s earlier in his Career and then stopped in Winter of 2008/2009 once JC Romero whas busted .. It sure is coincidence that his on the field performance and health have rapidly deteriorated about that same time…
The Utley story reminds me too much of a Brady Anderson of the Orioles if some of you guys remember him.. He come’s out of nowhere, has 3-4 great Seasons belting 35 Hrs for kind of a small guy 175lbs, then stops using and is never heard from again 2 years later due to various injuries and ailments, back, hip, kness, obliques… maybe is just bad luck but I do find it very suspicious that Utley is hellbent on not having any surgery.. Wonder why that it is.. Does he not want some potential medical information to get out..
WHo knows, but either way you look at it, it;’s loss that the Phils simply have to overcome for to rely on the Utley of old is simply wishful thinking as DCar and myself have stated over a year now.. I was hoping we could get 85% of the old Utley for 2 more season, now I think it’s a long-shot that he gets close to the player he once was which was a pretty damn good one..

As far Doc, I have gone on record stating that he has not been the same Pitcher since last August 2011 when he pulled himself out of the game versus the Cubs in Chicago on a very hot/humid day where he was dehydrated , I think something else was going on back then adn has tried to pitch with whatever has been bothering him.. I am no pitching expert, but there is no doubt in my mind that Doc has not been PItched as consistently ever since, HE appears to lost some zip on his pitches and more importantly, he has lost some of the late movement on his pitches which is causing some control issues which he has rarely ever had over the last 8-10 years of Pitching in the Big Leauges.. Look down the Stretch last year where it appears he was laboring in the early innings and pitched on guts and heart.. Now fast foward to SPring Training and his fiest 10-12 Starts of 2012 and clearly something has been bothering him ..

Chase Utley has no doubt hurt this team with his selfish act, but he did not ruin the team.

FACT – Utley did not tell a single sole this offseason that he would not be ready to start the season as indicated by RAJ stating in the Spring Chase would be ready opening day…

FACT – Utley has not been willing to play through pain the past two seasons as indicated by both RAJ & Chase stating he will play when he is ready to play.

FACT – Utley could have played through the pain if he so desired to do so.

FACT – Without surgery Chase Utley knees will never get better.

FACT – RAJ would have signed a suitable replacement had he known Chase was gonna pull this move.

FACT – Chase is milking this injury and playing 50% of the games this year and last year to save his body from breaking down further and hoping his play next year will reward him with another contract.

FACT – the writing is on the wall Chase is being greedy and selfish and could care less about helping this team or this city. This guy is probably the biggest fraud to ever play in this city. The choice is his play through pain or dont and what did he decide and when did he decide it? He decided this last minute off spring so RAJ did not replace him so he could still start next year and get another contract.

FACT – Chase should have got micro fracture surgery or went to see the “kobe” doctor in Germany but nope selfish Chase did not.

So the guy didnt ruin any seasons because no 1 man can but in my eyes he screwed the team, city and organization over mostly because he is selfish.

YOU MAKE $15 MILLION A YEAR CHASE. PLAY THROUGH PAIN OR RETIRE, STOP HANDCUFFING US!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IF I AM RAJ, I DONT LET HIM COME BACK.

BTW CHASE GETTING MADE TO LOOK LIKE A FOOL BY HIGHSCHOOL PITCHERS DURING CLEARWATER AND INTERSQUAD GAMES, HE AINT HELPING ANYONE.

Galvis suspended 50 games for roids. Proof roids does not equate to hitting home runs or hitting for average. Unless galvis is naturally a .150 hitter.

paulman

June 19, 2012 6:19 pm

Yes but you recover quick and who would have thought that Galvis would even have 4-5 HR’s in a 1/3 of a Season… Utley was a contact/Gap hitter his College Career and his early stages in the Minor Leagugues then he goes from 15-18 HR’s a Season in 2001 to 2005 and then to hitting 30 to 35 per Year .. I think he’s never been the same since the 2009 World Series loss to the Yankess where he hit 2-3 HR’s off of PItcher CC Sabathia and then he became more of dead-pull upper-cut swinger where he went from a .310-320 hitter to a .260-270 abnd yes he did gain some more Power and HR but was not the same player in my eyes ever again ..

Did anyone see cole at victorinos fashion show last night? If no check him out:

http://www.barstoolsports.com/philly/super-page/lets-all-pretend-were-not-in-last-place-and-enjoy-the-phillies-fashion-show/

I think this sealed his fate and got him a 1 way ticket out of town. My fearless prediction is the first thing he buys himself with his new contract is breast implants and maybe a sex change ( going women to man of course )
