Eagles Win An Ugly One At The End, Despite Four Vick Interceptions

Eagles quarterback Michael Vick showed a lot of courage today despite playing an awful game.  His teammates bailed him out.  The defense stepped up with a very good performance and LeSean McCoy took over on the last drive to take them down the field to give the Birds a chance to pull it out.

Vick was playing so poorly that at times, I thought he might be tempted to take himself out of the game.  Seriously it would have been hard for him to play worse.

He threw four interceptions but could have very easily thrown seven or eight interceptions.  I don’t know what the single-game interception record is but he was threatening it today.

He was staring down receivers and not doing anything to look off the defenders.  His eyes were drawing the linebackers, safeties and cornerbacks to the area where he was throwing the football.  Vick was 29 of 56 for 317 yards, with two touchdowns and four interceptions.

He showed courage on the last drive because he continued competing even though he couldn’t have been letting those throws go with any confidence.  Vick had to block out all the interceptions and poor throws he had made earlier in the game.  The signal caller had to reach down deep to not give in to disappointment but keep on fighting.  Vick couldn’t see the field today.  It was like he was a blind man against the Browns. His confidence was shot.  For awhile during the game it seemed that every throw he made was intercepted or almost intercepted.

The Birds offense gained 456 yards during the game.  LeSean McCoy had a big day with 20 carries for 110 yards.  He was especially effective on that last drive which won the game.

You’ve got to give the Eagles defense most of the credit for winning this one.  They kept the Birds in the game while the offense was turning the ball over five times.  Four interceptions were the key. Two picks by Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and two by Kurt Coleman were ultimately what won the game for the Birds.

Eagles middle linebacker DeMeco Ryans hadn’t done much during training camp and the preseason, but today he showed why he had been an All-Pro earlier in his career.  Numerous times he anticipated running plays, then shot the gap in the Browns offensive line to make plays in the backfield.

The veteran also made some key stops on third down in pass coverage as well.

Vick has been doing something right because on that last drive, he could have easily turned the ball over a couple of times.  He fumbled on that run after he was hammered.  Thankfully, the ball didn’t roll away from him but settled underneath him.

He threw a pass to Jeremy Maclin in the end zone which should have been picked off by one of the Browns rookie linebackers. Vick played like he couldn’t see the color of the other team’s jerseys.

I have to ask everybody a question that’s got to be asked?   Should they consider going to Nick Foles if Vick plays another bad game like this one?

Vick threw 4 picks. From what I saw, he threw 5 more balls that could easily have been picked (including the 2nd last throw which would have ended the game).

It was a pathetic performance.

Against the Browns.

Putrid performance by Vick and Oline….but you have to wonder, does the Oline look so bad because of Vick? Or vice versa? There may be only one way to find out………

Does the fact the eagles D played as well as they did buy Juan Castillo and the FO one week of good will?

Let’s look shall we – the D line was dominate (we all knew that) The Linebackers were making plays (Ryans had a couple big ones – that 95 was all over) How about those corners (Shout out to Songs – who was that guy you were bitching they let go all summer?) and the safeties – solid solid performance – and now in the last 9 games (last 4 last year, 4 pre-season – 1 regular season) they have given up less then 1 TD… weren’t all the points this week off of turnovers? Much better in Red Zone…

Ravens next week – should be a good one…

Love the D Love theD Love the D, MAllthe yardage the offense racked up means nothing when you turn the ball over 5 times, 4 by the QB. I have defended Mike Vick but damn I cant defend such putrid, pathetic play. He has to step his game up next week, to many more games like that he will be McNabbed from the starting line up. Big shout out to the back seven, F@3k it the whole defense!!!

“The toughness of your team is built around running the ball and stopping the run. and in the critical games and in the critical situations, that’s the foundation of your team and that’s what you’re built on and that’s what you got to be able to do. You’re going to have run it when they know you’re going to run it. I say that all the time and I think what we do in the run game and the play-action game…,and you spread them out and you screen, and you run draws, you run traps, you spread the ball out to all the different receivers. It really makes for…it’s hard for the defense to just key in on something say, ‘This is what we got to do’so you (they) really gotta defend everything.”

Tom Brady’s press conference today after beating the Titans.

One would think that’s the way the Eagles would have handled it with Vick who barely touched the ball during the pre-season.

One of the most prolific passers in the game today GETS IT. When will Reid?

good read slick one, very suprised at the birds run pass ratio, at one point it was 43 passes to 18 runs We all knew that vick wasn’t up to live game speed, shoulda been alot closer Ratio. The positive news is after playin possum all preseason, WE FINALLY FOUND A MLB, Ryans was all over the field.. with Kendricks right behind him

The D played well but the Browns O is horrific. D line will be our saving grace all year.

We must commit more to the run or we are done. I am tired of this Pass happy crap and then hearing in the presser we should of ran it more. Shady is our best player lets feed him the ball. It will help Vick and the passing game.

If we stay pass happy then year 14 ends like the previous 13.

vick may have stunk it up but he had a game winning drive. he will get better….he has to be better. this was really his preseason game and he is still banged up. anyway, the d will have to carry this team a couple times this season. i have seen many nfl teams win with worse offence then this….i think the oline needs to get it get alot better too. but a win is a win…on the road. they don’t remember how but how many. 1-0

If you go to Nick Foles you’re basically making the decision to potentially tank the season at this point, because no one can say how the rookie will perform against heavy blitzing, the likes of the Ravens, the Steelers, Lions etc. Where he was drafted wouldn’t give anyone any reasonable expectation that he should be performing like Luck or RG3 so if he doesn’t it just makes the front office and coaching staff look bad. I would have felt a lot better, would feel lot better if McNabb were suited up in midnight green, he’s still the best intermediate option.

Ryans looked great and Nnamdi looked great which are awesome signs for the defense. Fletcher Cox still looks somewhat pedestrian in the short amount of time he had in, but given time he will hopefully come around.

Great games by Ryan, DRC and Coleman and a nice Start by Kendrick’s and Cox but the Offense was ugly, ugly , ugly and needs a lot of work Penalties and the QB play will need a dramatic improvement for the Eagles to even compete against the good teams. McCoy and Maclin played well. Djax early and Avant late made plays. TE’s could have been used more but Vick wasn’t seeing the field very well and that needs to change next week

Men Vick is a pile of dog shit

Helluva game by drc

Awful gameplan we had the lead basically the whole game and in the 4th quarter Vick had 40+ pass attempts to mccoys 11 rushing attempts. Everyone is worries about Juan when the real problem is the morons calling the offensive plays. Inept!

Yeah, he was awful today and patience is in short supply. I, however, am going to give out a mulligan for this week. Vick had no real preseason snaps, and given the fact that they won the game, I am not going to bash him for at least this week. After the Ravens game, I will reassess the situation with a slightly larger sample size. It is not an excuse for today, but I will give him the benefit of the doubt for one more week. But he has to show the fruit of his offseason film study and work really really soon. After waiting two years for him, what is one more week?

Give him a pass all you want but you’re best served seeing the truth. Vick should change careers and be a trashman. Reid & Marty gotta go quick. These 2 coaches are borderline retarded, no clue how to call a game no clue about rythem or playing to win total fucking idiots

Here is the truth.

Vick 2011 253 of 423 59.8% 3,303 yds 7.8 per att 18TD 14 INT rtg of 84.9

Vick 2001 181 of 321 56.4% 2313 yds 7.2 per att 14TD 12INT rtg 78.1

But Oh he is so renewed in the eagles system. BULLSH&T

Play Foles and *see* if we have a *REAL QB* or if a new coach and QB combo is needed next year.

Or play Vick and go 9-7 or 8-8 and miss out on drafting a guy worth anything with out trading up and mortgaging the future. Then play Foles and if he does not pan out.. lose another year of shady, maclin, celek, and jackson untill we are completely rebuilding again.

Look at Vicks stats from last year and from 2004.

He has made no real progress as a passer. It’s all propaganda for a middle of the road passer.

Get a real QB and call me when we do!

He had his full off-season in this offense as the starting QB. I think that was last excuse the Vick apologists had and its been exhausted. Lets face it, Reid was enamored with what he thought Vick could become and he teased us with six good games against a league that hadn’t seen him in three years. Vick is not a good quarterback and today, he was downright horrendous. Time for Foles. What’s the worst he could do, fumble twice and throw four picks, oh wait.

Ofcourse Vick was rusty. He had only a few game condition snaps all year. What I can’t comprehend is why would you call almost 60 pass plays for a “rusty” QB? I mean they were either tied or ahead most of the game. The Browns were teeing off and blitzing Vick on every “obvious” pass play. Draws, screens, traps, and quick crossing routes should have been the adjustment made instead playing into the Browns strength all day.

Throwing 60 times when you’re ahead and your running game is working makes no sense at all! I hope they learn something this time.

The defense was the Bomb! If Vick can play “at least” at the level he play last year the Eagles should be okay. (Remember the defense gave back 4 or 5 games in the fourth quarter when the Eagles were ahead).

To add some balance to this Vick bashing, for as ugly as his play was, and even considering how lucky he was to not have a game ending pic on the last drive, he gutted it out and won the game, and the eagles are 1-0, so back off the ledge guys, it’s a long season

WHO THROWS THE BALL 75% OF THE TIME???

It would have been more if they hadn’t decided to run the ball (4) straight times after the 4th INT.

We will not have to look to have Vick benched, because Reid is trying to get Vick killed. He is getting hit on most every pass play, and he STILL does not know how to slide FEET FIRST. He will not last 2 more games if they keep playing with a similar game plan.

We were told last week about how Marty and Big Red had been game planning for this game for months and months……what does this say for the braintrust now???

Green- they can gameplan all they want, but they proved once again that they are unable to make in game adjustments. The Browns had one of the fewest number if blitzes last season, but they were blitzing Vick a lot. That is what they need to gameplan for if they can. Be prepared to see pressure every week, because he and they (MM/AR) can’t handle it.

If this were Vicks first rodeo I would give him slack but he has been and will remain the same player since joining the NFL. Don’t be taken in by all the “I’ve got to do a better job” crap.

He is who we thought he is.

Vick can do things no other QB (prior to CAM!, and RGIII) could do. Problem is he (unlike CAM!) struggles to do the basic things all QB’s that are starters can do!
