Reid On Vick: “Right now, we’re with Michael…. We’ll evaluate it as we go”

Andy Reid surely didn’t give Michael Vick must of an endorsement today at his Monday morning post game news conference.  His endorsement might have been stronger if he hadn’t said anything at all.  Reid was asked if he thought about making a change at quarterback considering all the hits Vick was taking and the way the offense was struggling.

“Right now, we’re with Michael and that’s what we’re doing,” Reid said. “We’ll evaluate it as we go.”

That’s not a glowing endorsement.  If your wife gives you that type of endorsement, you should get a divorce attorney on the line.  In that statement, Reid is clearly saying he thought about or is thinking about making a change.

When you step back and look at the situation, you can understand why.

The Giants are up next and then the Steelers.

Defenses are going to be coming after Vick for the rest of the season.  Unfortunately, the offseason lessons don’t seem to have affected anything.  This year’s offense has performed in much the same way as the one we saw a year ago, with the same actors in the leading roles.  They run up big numbers in yardage but also lead the league in turnovers.

The Birds were fortunate in the season’s first two games to come out with victories, but it’s a proven fact that you won’t have long-term success in the NFL, if you turn over the football on a regular basis.  I know the offensive line has to take some of the responsibility, but Vick has been a turnover machine.

Nick Foles has to be on the coach’s mind, but Reid knows that making that move is a huge step and going back will be very hard to do.  He may also be thinking that deciding to stay with Vick is a sure recipe for making the 2012 season his last with the Eagles.  They talked all offseason about protecting the football and they’ve gotten worse rather than better.

Yea, Mike Vick! Do that thing where you hang on to the ball for six seconds and get the $#@^ knocked out of you, or throw a pick 6! Do that thang!

“Do what you do!! Vick!!” He has been. Leading the league in fumbles in 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2010, 2011, 2012….

Here’s a thought…perhaps sitting Vick down would be the best for the guy. Maybe even for all his childhood idolaters like Lions, and Larrwd.

Anyway….lets say Foles gets in there 2nd half next week and starts for 6 or 8 games. Goes .500 (which I think is possible with this D. Don’t turn the ball over and this D will carry the team to a couple wins. Then Foles gets hurt or has a couple bad games and Vick returns for the last 4 games….does his whole running around – just making a play routine into the playoffs.

Maybe that would work out.

LOL.

What the hell am I thinking??? Sooner this inaccurate turnover disaster is history, the sooner we have a chance to be good.

my thoughts are as follows. I guess I am just a positive person.

ANYONE that looked at the schedule would have been happy to say “the eagles are going to be 2-1 going into the giants game”. The cards just shut the pats down to nothing but field goals in all but the last 2:10 of the game, and look to be for real… vick has been a liability so far in way too many spots, I admit… but if they wouldnt of had that terrible, unspeakable end to the first half… that game is a whole different game.

they were 1 play away from having an actual chance at what seems to be a legit top nfl team… let’s not get crazy

With a patchwork O line ( one more injury and it will be a complete disaster )
I doubt Foles will be any better and sending out a rookie behind that line will traumatize him but Vick gets hurt then they have to do something
I think Edwards would be a better choice

also, you want to replace a turnover machine with a rookie ? The 5 rookie qbs in the league this year have 22 turnovers.. TWENTY TWO ! and russell wilson hasnt played 3 games yet.

let’s not throw a rookie into a fire yet, when he has 2 bad games all of you bastards will want his head on a platter.

zoltek

September 24, 2012 3:33 pm

also the 5 rookie starting qbs have a combined, I believe…. 22 turnovers.

So yea, lets solve the turnover problem by putting in a rookie, a rookie that never was taken with any chance to start this year. When the 4 first rounders and wilson are just giving the ball up at will.

sounds like a great idea.

2004 led league in fumbles (16), 2005 led league in fumbles (11), 2006 led league in fumbles (9), 2010 led league in fumbles (10), 2011 led league in fumbles (11), 2012 leads league in fumbles (5 on pace for 27)……

2-1 with the rest of the East cept for Skins.

Im over this horrbile loss and on to the Giants.

Thats a bs job at your press conf. after you called 25 pass plays with double barrel blitzs coming up THE MIDDLE!!all first half. The best qb in the league probably coughs it there after the b.s. play calling up to that point. AND BEYOND! The real problem is Mike not letting them know,we need to lean on Lesean. The line is not getting any pop on pass pro sets. How about a hook route now and again…you know Andy somehting that doesnt take 4 seconds to develop. Someone shoudla asked if Jeff was evaluating him?

And how the f$ck do you think Foles will do with that kinda pressure. Some of you bozo’s just talk about the position like Foles will take over and be crisp with no pressure at any point. Preseason is a joke when it comes to judging a player and his ability to lead a football team. FYI….theyre backups. And theres a reason there backups…they cant play.

Any of you convinced the powerhouse Giants, who beat a swiss cheese defense and got embarresed at home, are better then us right now. Cowboys? Skins?

The turnovers are a major concern and I have no idea how they cant get that straight right now. Like this week? The defense is still elite…they were on there heals all day with the way the o was moving…or not moving.

Eagles and their Offense and their Coaching have the look of a 0-3 Team..
They were very fortunate to win up at Cleveland and home against the Ravens..
Yes they are 2-1 but Teams will watch Film of how Arizona just totally disrupted the O/Line and send in the Kitchen Sink against Vick.. and why wouldn’t you…
Remember that the Cardinals Def Staff are all Steeler ex-coaches so expect the same looks/schemes when the Eagles play the Steelers in 2 weeks which will be another blood bath..

Teams don’t need to look at what the Cards did or film since they did what most teams did or tried to do pretty successfully all last season. Vick couldnt handle the pressure last season, still can’t and AR continue to use a pass, pass, pass offense and Vick still can’t stop the turnovers. No secrets here, no film work, just bring the house when they pass which is most of the time.

Yes let’s put the rookie in behind this oline.

How well did that work for Kolb?

You want to know how the Eagles solve their problems – call a balanced game like they did with the Ravens. Contrary to popular belief that wasn’t dumb luck. Ravens stopped blitzing ’cause they had to protect against the run and/or the screen play.

They couldn’t afford to have everyone come after VIck and keep getting eaten up on the ground. Philly has got to be the only 2-1 team that’s not thinking ’bout pulling their quarterback.

Call a balanced game – roll Vick out of the pocket – have a healthy Maclin and/or Dunlap and you have a ball game. Otherwise it will be more of the same. Nice of Reid to throw his QB under the bus for his stupidity.

Quick poll.

Lets see what’s out there. 4 questions. Simple. Yes or no answers.

From what you’ve seen…..

1) Can Mike Vick lead the Eagles’ to the playoffs?
2) Can Mike Vick win a payoff game?
3) Can Mike Vick wn a Super Bowl?
4) SHould Mike Vick be he Eagles’ QB moving forward?

And yes…we can do the same poll for Reid later…but he isn’t going anywhere ’till ater the season at least.

My answers: Maybe (broke my own rule), No, No, No.

Hopefully everyone will participate and I’ll tally scores up at the end.

Throw your star QB under the bus. How pathetic. How many screens did they run yesterday to Mcoy. I DONT REMEMBER ANY. Thats one way to deal with the blitz. Im thinking Jeff Lurie comments would be the same about Andy. Right now we are with him, but we will evaluate it as we go on. Sick of Andy’s antics. He is unable to run a diciplined offense, and call a diciplined game, and that as evidence by the turnovers reflects a very undiciplined team. this coaching is becomming a complete joke.

Vinnie — I won’t participate in that quiz because I can’t tell the future. However, it doesn’t look pretty for Mike Vick.

Real — you have to understand, Vick is NOT looking good. I’m seeing the SAME exact problems as last year. Matter of fact, I’m seeing the same QB that played for the Atlanta Falcons. He’s not going through his reads (he does every once in a while). He’s not securing the football when he decides to take off. He’s just not the same QB that lit the league on fire in 2010. He’s not the 2010 MVP runner-up anymore. I have now come to accept this. 9 turnovers. Whether they were all his fault or not, it doesn’t matter. 9 turnovers for a 100 million dollar QB in three games. That’s simply atrocious.

The straw that broke the camels back for me? Wondering how I can just turn my back on Vick, a QB that I “love”? Simple. The play right before the half where there are 6 seconds on the clock. A simple quick three step drop is all that that play needed to be. Drop back three steps and by the time your back foot is planted, the ball should be halfway out of your hand. You should be in the throwing motion by the time that back foot is planted. Vick plants his back foot and has NO IDEA where to go with the football. We all know the end result. That play right there has defined Vick for me. He just doesn’t get it.

You can only love a player so much before you realize that love is blind. You have to let the player go and realize that the name on the front of the jersey is much more important than the name on the back.

I think it’s crazy how we are jumping so quickly off the bandwagon….we beat the supposedly ” Super Bowl bound Ravens” the Saints, Patriots, lions all have losing records and the other “Super Bowl Team” , the 49ers got spanked by the Vikings yesterday. The Eagles are 1st in the division and play the Gmen next week. We need to relax. The Eagles always start slow as evident by the fact that the most recently we started 2-0 was 2004. RELAX PEOPLE ! I would rather have these injuries and problems n week 3 then week 15. Everyone wants to be a Monday morning coach but there is a reason why after 2 wks the Eagles were tops in O yardage in the league as they are every year or near the top. Give Andy his season to see if he deserves a new contract or not but please relax

I think regardless of the 2-1 record, the reality in all fairness is we should be 0-3. The defense need to continue to gel and get better. Running the ball when you have a stable of RB’s like we do would be nice. O-line was not good yesterday. VIck was Vick..he can make the play-offs but that’s it. I remember the pres conference after the Packers playoff loss in Jan of 2011. He said I threw the int but I took my shot, I went down shooting. The fact that it was a bad throw with plenty of time left and killed our season never registered with him. Fast forward to this morning as I drive to work I hear on the radio ” Im not concerned with my play”. Same Vick, never learns from his mistakes…I for one can’t deal with it anymore. Please run shady until further notice Andy

I am going to give you a couple temporay thumbs up on the Cards game! I am not however jumping off the bandwagon.

I watched just about all the games sunday at some point, six on big screen, and I saw a lot of QB’s F-ing up. If half those guys were Eages we would be roasting those suckers right now just like we are doing Vick and rightfully so.

My concern is Reid and Marty on how they refuse to call a more balanced game every single damn week……every damn week. I try to be positive but if I hear same “Put players in position; or its my fault” I am going to go full blown Hizbullah.

The look McCoy had sitting on the bench in the first half said it all for me. Damn it!

Inspite of it all these players are going to pull it together and due us right, because truth be told, I seen a ton of teams play like we did sunday at least once this season and some more.

Can’t agree. I think the Eagles are a good team, not great but certainly very talented and good enough to get in to the playoffs. They just have the most stubborn coaches in the NFL to point of significant arrogance which is their biggest problem and I still think ARs decision to but Castillo in as DC is insane.

It’s a shame that some fans here allow their personal opinions towards the QB & other players skew their judgement. I personally don’t condone personal insults or calling someone stupid. we win as a team and lose as a team. No QB would have been successful with that game plan yesterday. and yes, I think that we need a fullback on the field to plug up those A gaps ( a FB would have picked up that blitzer on the goal line yesterday ) to Paulman and friends, you can’t want the QB gone AND GIVE ANDY A FREE PASS, since Andy made the decision, it’s impossible to divide the 2.

The problem is that the QB is not supposed to be the primary playmaker. He is to be a consistent leader. (The Anti Vick). Eli Manning is one of the most boring players I have ever seen but he gets the ball to his PLAYMAKERS at WR and RB and they TAKE THE BEATING. It is far far easier to replace a RB or WR every 3 years than to need a new QB after 6 games. 123 ball is out!!!!!

Vick is his own problem. He is always trying to be the Playmaker (thus holding the ball too long, getting crushed, and not letting hi O-Line know where or how long to protect.

“No QB would have been successful with that game plan yesterday.”

Again, I’n not defending Reid at all with the balance but…

This week

NYG opened pass, pass, run, pass…finished half 25 passes 11 runs…

Buffalo…opened 5 passes 2 runs TD…finished half 24 pass 12 run

SF…opened pass pass pass run pass pass….finished 1st half with 6 runs…game total…42 passes 16 runs……even a “running team” doesn’t run!)

NE opened Pass pass pass pass pass….

Dallas opened Pass pass pass pass….finished 43-19 pass/run

Pit opened up pass pass pass pass run reverse pass….second drive…pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass run pass run pass….finished 51/19 pass/run

Washington 52/22 pass-run

Tenny 46 passes 15 runs

Det opened the 3rd pass, pass, pass, run, pass, pass, pass, pass…one yrd run for a td…

Why suprised Eagles opened up pass pass pass pass pass pass??

Look…I think the run pass ratio is outta whack…but “no QB would have been successful” is bogus….there are many teams who rolled out the same gameplan….and do every week.

I’n not a fan of it….but it is what it is…..and we need a QB who can do something other than continually give the ball to the other team when its called.

Please pay attention to the NFL right now… the supposed cream of QBs is struggling in Seattle, the Great Peyton Manning, Drew Brees… theres a pattern here. I do believe Vick has faults that need fixing, but these NFL defenses have caught up to these gimmicky offenses. If you do not establish a run threat you will not slow down the pressure being applied to these QBs. When Andy Reid says he needs to do better at helping his QB… damn right you do. Try running the freakin ball. And not after you get a lead. Unfortunately as i heard Jaws say on ESPN earlier, Andy is what he is, and he will not change for anyone. The Eagles will throw, you and I know that they will throw, the defense knows they will throw… the fans know they will throw… this seems like a broken record that will never stop skipping. Andy will get Vick killed, Foles killed and any other QB that steps out into this offensive system. This is the team that ANDY built… smallish WRs that will get killed in a 3 step drop system, so that’s out. Teams know it so they tee off on the QB… RUN THE BALL>>>

All you Vick lovers need to read regal eagles post above, with the popularity of fantasy football and high light on espn, you have forgotten, fail to appreciate the true role of a quarterback, he is not your best athlete on your team, he facilitates play, but in your misguided vernacular that is somehow bad, he’s a manager of the game, well that’s what the true greats did, the put the ball in the hands of the athletes who win games, Vick, he wants to be the center piece, he is the antithesis of what a good quarterback does, Kevin kolb is more of what the birds need, he showed it this Sunday, so bring on foles, send Vick packing, for the love of all of us who still think there is a chance this year……

With the horrendous play calling and terriblr offensive line how can anyone think a rookie qb would be any better? Our best player is our rb and we dont even use him!! I saw Mike McCarthy change his gameplan up on the first drive of the second half. He ran benson 7 times on one drive. If vick was given relief by using a top nfl rb every now and again he is a more than servicable qb! Wake up Lurie your paying top $ to a qb and a rb that arent being used properly! Yup, we all saw it ans we’ve seen it before for many years. The root of the problem is the offensive scheme. Vick however, makes it worse with his “challenges” against the blitz as well as his need to be superman and turnovers. It’s the continuation of another match made in hell. Reid runs his offense as though he has Brady or Brees or Rogers in the pocket that can read and release in 2 – 4 seconds and he’s never had that. Bottom line is that Reid still doesn’t know how to drive the car he built to a championship.

While I agree that Vick hasn’t played well and didn’t play well on Sunday, I disagree that he is the only reason for the loss. After all, he was not calling the plays and more importantly he was not playing Defense. I also agree with Zoltek and Realtalk that putting Foles in is not the answer. @Birdo

Clearly you know nothing about football. Sorry for the insult but this right here says it all:

“The straw that broke the camels back for me? Wondering how I can just turn my back on Vick, a QB that I “love”? Simple. The play right before the half where there are 6 seconds on the clock. A simple quick three step drop is all that that play needed to be. Drop back three steps and by the time your back foot is planted, the ball should be halfway out of your hand”

They had six seconds – he was on the ground with 5 seconds left on the clock. He had LESS THAN A SECOND to throw the ball.

And no it wasn’t because he didn’t see the blitzer coming. When he said in the interview after that he knew the guy was there and he expected him to be picked up – he was right – they had enough men in to take of the blitzer – cats blew their coverage and the play was doomed as soon as the ball was snapped.

Don’t beleive me – read someone with REAL analysis and not just a hard on to hate VIck

Giants 36-Eagles 20
Eli throws 4 TD Passes Total and 3 down the Left Sideline over CB Amsocrap
1 to Nicks, 1 to Cruz and 1 to Bardsen… It’s Pick on Asmo game as he gwets big-time exposed for the Fraud that he is… The other TD pass is to TE Martellus Bennet over Nate Allen in the back of the end-zone…
Trent Edwards comes in the 4th Quarter after it’s 33-7 to lead a couple of late TD’s after Vick is pulled.. The Steelers await licking their Chops.. Their WR Duo of Mike Wallace & Anthony Brown salivate about being matched up on CB Asmo and so it goes…

Fraudman– For someone who said they dont watch the eagle games you come on here every single day making outrageous claims and poor predictions. You live in boones North Carolina. You cant even get eagles games. Lets keep it real your really a Panthers fan. What a joke. You know what else is a joke that you actually called someone else a fraud. A fraud calling someone else a fraud. Nnamdi is playing just fine, at least hes a proven pro bowl player. Youve proven to be wrong on just about every prediction you make. Who on earth would listen or even agree with you about anything that involves this team? Your not a fan. You say you dont watch the games because of Vick and Reid? What true fan says stuff like that? You sound like a little baby. A grown man saying that is pathetic. If your a true fan you live and die with this team not change your opinion from week to week. What a fraud. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Birdo– Dont be manipulated by the false fans. Theyre not true fans of this team. Many of them dont even watch the games, they dont go to any of the games, they are frauds especially paul, yet they find there way on this site every single day to post the most ridiculous things whether we win or lose.
