Reports: Vick To Be Around A While Or Vick To Be Released This Week

MichaelVick5I don’t know what the Eagles are going to do about releasing, renegotiating with or just hanging onto Michael Vick, but ESPN NFL reporter,  was on the ESPN Mike and Mike radio show today and he believes the Eagles will release Vick by Friday of this week.

In another report on Eagles 24/7, Tim McManus reports that the Birds will hang onto Vick past the February 6 deadline.  It seems that the Birds are taking as much time as possible before making decisions, so I expect Vick to be around for a while.

“It doesn’t sound like they’re going to try to renegotiate his contract and if that’s going to be the case he’ll be released,” Clayton said to the Mike and Mike Show hosts.  ”Now that doesn’t close the door for him trying to re-sign, but there’s no way they’re going to guarantee him $45.5 million over the next three years.  They still have a few days to reach out, but you kind of get the idea that the fact that Chip Kelly is still not in the position to make the decision on Michael Vick.”

“He’s sorting out the defensive coordinator position.  He’s sorting out a lot of different things in his coaching staff, and the big decision he’s going to have to make is what he’s going to do at quarterback.  It just doesn’t seem there’s enough time right now for him to be able to keep Vick under the current contract.  So come later this week on Friday it looks like he’ll be released, available to everyone else, including the Philadelphia Eagles.”

I don’t think we will know what Kelly plans to do with Michael Vick until March. But, I could be wrong…

I only thing I do know is that the longer this drags out for the Franchise
New HC Kelly and for Vick himself, the worse it will be for everyone
Make the decision either way and move forward, I believe if this decision drags thru for the next month or so will De damaging to Coach Kelly as far as forming a new Sidentity and show a sign of indecisiveness out of the fate to other Ceteran Pkayers and to and to the other QB’s.. It ‘s as if everything
That Kelly wants to achieve us on hold until he makes a HC Decsion about his QB’s .. Not a good sign to me if this drags out thru March..

Mike V will definitely be on the roster the rest this month. It buy the Eagles more time to see what they want to do with him, and this affects them negatively in no way. I’m sure Chip will want to see him workout and throw the football before he makes his final decision.

I would not mind seeing competition between Vick, Foles, or Dixon either.

First, Kelly hasn’t even hired an OC, so why would the Eagles keep Vick around past Friday, thus locking themselves into guaranteeing him $13mil for next year, and thus not get more cap space? Kelly likes input from others around him and the guy calling the plays hasn’t even looked at film to give Chipper his 2¢ about Vick. Pretty clear about intentions as Clayton stated above. Eagles will let him walk, forcing Vick to take a big salary cut as back-up QB should they want him.
I believe Kelly and Howie already have a plan for QB and it doesn’t include Vick as starter. Kelly has already seen tons of recent film on Vick; there’s nothing to there to excite him!

There are actually some teams interested in Vick’s sevices, i.e. the Chiefs and the Bills. If the Eagles can possibly trade him or get a draft pick for him why not hold on to him. How is that hurting anything? Look at this logically and not emotionally!!! But then again, reading some of the whiners posts on this site, perhaps that’s asking to much.

Man look give me Nick Foles and lets go play ball. Once again the classic drop back quarterback has won the superbowl again. Mobile guys are flashy, but the classic drop back guy get’s it done.

hahaha…all by their lonesome huh? The Baltimore defense in the first half had nothing to do with it, huh? You gotta be kidding me…that game on Sunday could have gone either way, depending on the play calling and other circumstances…a complete team wins the SB….not just a QB..

What has Foles done to deserve to be named the Starter… Shoot Dennis Dixon comes with a better resume’ than Foles. Dixon was a Heisman candidate his senior year up until he hurt his knee. And that was in Chip Kelly’s offense… I do not want a “classic” drop back statue QBing this team. Heck let them all come to camp and the best man win the job…

If you want to have them compete fine, but what the hell has Dixon done to be the starter? Dude is basically a 3rd string QB. I am not excited about this move at all.

I don’t care if the guy has a walker, I want the guy is the best passer. I don’t know who that is with this group, but I am not interested in a more athletic QB if he can’t throw the damn ball.

About Vick, I don’t want him here for the simple fact that he cannot stay healthy for a whole season. I don’t want to go into the season with someone that fragile leading the team. Add concussions now from last year to the list of potential injuries that he had from before.

I think it’s worth a try seeing if Chip Kelly can get the best out of Vick being he have excelled with QB’s with that skill set. Now, if Vick can’t produce under this offense that would the indicator that Vick is done. Reid tried to turn him into something he’s not but Chip Kelly would maximize his strengths and mask his weaknesses. One more year is worth it if Vick is willing to play at a lower salary.

There’s no better option than Vick with his arm strength and mobility….Now, that offensive line must get fixed first and foremost to allow him to succeed but I’m curious to know how he plays under Kelly.

One more season and if he don’t cut the mustard……he’s gone.

I agree Songs. He will always be a better option than Dennis Dixon; A 12 year Pro vs a practice squad regular.

And that’s not saying he can lead us to a Superbowl, but he is better than what we’re bringing in, and he should only be backing up Foles.

y why not. The last 3 head coaches he had couldn’t do it, so we might as well try for 4.

Wash. Rince. Repeat.

How many times to bang your head into a wall before you decide its no longer a good idea?

Neither Dixon nor Vick are decisions that would inspire any confidence.

This will not be Chip Kelley’s Team until the Veteran Deadwood is removed
this Means Overpaid,over-the-hill Veterans like VIck,T Cole,Asmo, Patterson, Jenkins,Herremans all must Go.. This is the time and off-season to do it..
Look at what the COlts did last off-season and use their Blue-print in cleaning house and starting fresh with young, hungry players that are 100% to the new HC System and Visions
Colts released Veteran Players like Manning, Addai, G Brackett, J Lacey, let players like Garcon, D Clark, J Tamme walk in Free-Agency and added 35 New Players on their Roster for 2012 and played better and bettter as the Season went along and played 6 Rookies on their OFfense (Luck,Ballard,Fleener,Allen,TY Hilton & OL Sowell..)

Why does so many people continue to be enamored and want to keep some of the Current Eagles who have gone 12-22 in their last 34 NFL Games.. If Chip Kelly does not Clean House in these next 2 weeks, his run in Philly is going to a disapointing one in my opionion.. Cut the CHord Chip,
you have Zeor ties or Obligation to any of these older,under-performing players who are over-paid and are now limiting your opportunites to go after some Free-Agents who are in their Primes due to Salary Cap issues
This is a no-brainer nad if Chip fails to do so, he;’s lost his golden and only pportunity to truley make this Team his own…

Giants Release 8 Year Veteran LB Michael Boley (6-3 240lbs) in a Salary-Cutting move.. Also reported to be on chopping block are Veterans DE Osi Yumenyiora, DT Shaun Rogers, CB Corey Webster and Center David Bass as all these Veterans are seeing less and less playing time by the younger and cheaper Players..
See All Teams do this and that’s the way it is in the NFL..
This is a Team that won the Super Bowl 2 Years ago and had big contributions by some ofo the players I listed above, but time and emotional ties do not work in the NFl and this is the Difference between the NY GIants nad the PHilly Eagles who get too emoitionally tied to players by not only the fans but by the Front Office in recent years

If anybody thinks IF they DON’T cut Vick by today, that, that means he’s on our team next year, is a blithering idiot! They’re doing their usual, idiotic, self, over-evaluating, of their talent again, thinking they can trade him for something. Who the f^#@, in their right mind, would trade for a 33 year old, small, injury prone, mistake prone, not good QB, who is guaranteed $3M after today, with a $15M+ salary, when they know he’ll be released anyways, & they can sign him for waaaaay less than $15M+?!? He IS NOT EVER, playing for us, EVER AGAIN! Get your heads out of your arses, & use your brains, if you have any! JEESH!

If you are rebuilding, what is the intelligence & logic, in bringing him back, if you, in reality aren’t winning anything, next year, anyways?!? Isn’t logical, sensible, feasible, smart, nor proactive! Not happening!!!!

So…… here’s what we know…. Kelly COULD keep Vick or.. Kelly could cut him. Wow. We’ve learned a lot. Maybe we could write a few more blogs on this to really flush it out.

Dont hand Foles anything. He competes this year with Dixon and new guy…. he wouldnt have it any other way. If he’s the hall of famer Vinnie thinks he is he will WIN the job day 1 of mini camps.

Release Vick please. Its time for a new start.

@Paulman. Was out of town yesterday and wanted to get this to you. Took this from 24/7 yesterday. It says the same thing we discussed the day before. Very interesting. They basically stole my points : )

DeSean Jackson – It’s amazing to me how polarizing Jackson has become among the fan base. We can’t write about the Eagles’ speedy receiver in this space without preparing for a heated debate in the comments section.

Here are the numbers from 2012: 45 catches, 700 yards, two touchdowns. On the surface, those are unimpressive. But we need to dig a little deeper. Jackson’s production is based on getting behind the defense and keying the vertical passing game. That becomes difficult when you have an offensive line that can’t pass-protect and quarterbacks who struggle to get the ball downfield.

If you want visual proof, check out the All-22 breakdowns from the season.

If you want numbers, here they are. Nick Foles ranked 24th in deep-ball accuracy, per Pro Football Focus. Just 35.7 percent of his passes that traveled 20+ yards were on-target. Michael Vick was even worse, ranking 26th at 35 percent.

Still, in nine games with Vick at QB, Jackson averaged 76.2 yards per game. That translates to a 1,219-yard season over 16 games. Shaky hands had been an issue for him in the past, but Jackson didn’t drop a single catchable ball in 2012, according to STATS.com.

He missed the final five games after suffering a rib injury. But it’s worth noting that Jackson missed just three games in his first four seasons due to injury.

The shortcomings have been well-documented. Jackson is never going to be a serious red-zone threat. And he’s not going to be someone who makes tough, contested catches over the middle. But he has elite speed and is only 26-years-old. Jackson sounds legitimately excited to play for Chip Kelly and is without question a key part of this offense going forward.

Jeremy Maclin – His 2012 numbers were right around his career averages: 69 catches for 857 yards and seven touchdowns. With Jackson on the field, Maclin averaged 50.4 yards per game. Without him, Maclin averaged 70.6. Fans sometime rip on him for constantly begging referees for flags, but it’s worth noting that his tactics often worked. Maclin led the NFL, drawing 134 yards worth of pass interference penalties, according to Football Outsiders. And while he sometimes gets the injury-prone label, Maclin has missed five games in four seasons – not an egregious amount.

Maclin does several things well. He had 12 catches of 20+ yards last season to lead the team, and also had eight red-zone grabs (three touchdowns). Over the last three seasons, Maclin’s found the end zone 22 times. However, he doesn’t have one specific skill that stands out as being special, and is probably not the ideal complement to Jackson. Maclin’s strength is not making tough, contested catches over the middle of the field.

Scheduled to be a free agent after the 2013 season, Maclin is only 24-years-old. The Eagles have three options in the coming months: extend him, trade him or let him play the deal out.

Also worth noting that the qb during four of those last 5 games was Foles… So he had no deep threat. I’m not a Foles worshipper but keep the apples in one basket and the oranges in the other.

But the question remains, once inside the 25 yard line or so,
Who is the target going to be for TD’s once your in the are of a smaller field, tight route lanes and generally, less time for any QB to throw the ball for TD’s and not settle for FG’s ..

llWow, facts do get in the way, beautiful post haveacigar, no one needs to recite a single stat, though, to support the argument how bad of an NFL receiver Jackson is, just look at his pussy way of ducking, a real chump, draft a big a big wideout to go with foles, but it ain’t happenning, lurie in love with the so called progressive thought, you need Vick, you need Jackson, Reid will win more games without a social engineer as owner, we will be stuck with more running athletic quarterbacks who cannot win, darker days ahead, be like songs, for your sanity, find another team

But we do need Vinnie to recite every stat involving Vick and Foles okay that works. I guess like good QB’s big fast receivers grow on trees that’s why every team has one. Bowe is big and fast. His season ended the same way Djax’s did with broken ribs but let’s run out and sign him.
