Report: Eagles And Michael Vick Agree To Restructure Contract

vick ravensThe Philadelphia Eagles and Michael Vick have agreed to a restructured contract that will keep the quarterback in Philadelphia for at least one more season.

Although the Eagles have decided to keep Vick in Philadelphia, they won’t commit to him as the starting quarterback. The team also announced that Vick will compete with Nick Foles for the starting job.

We don’t have to accept shit ….we are fans.

When the team makes a stupid move we are supposed to react…otherwise we would be “non-fans”…understand???

I have tried to be positive about the coach, his staff and the front office moves…..hell, they haven’t even taken a single practice yet….but this player has a history of injuries, poor performances and turnovers….this is NOT the way to start the Kelly era, compounding one of the many mistakes from the Reid era!

this tells me that Nick Foles will be traded and they will draft someone to groom behind Vick and be the QB in 2014.

Soon to be Eagle Dennis Dixon is going to be the #2 behind Vick.

Can’t wait to see the first read option run for Vick misreads the defense and fumbles…. oh, i can hear the BOOS!!!

I’ll be here every week to talk about the good and bad of the Eagles next season and seasons after that. Was an Eagle fan way before Vick and will be one way after Vick. UNlike many others on here who don’t give a damn about the actual team, I’ll keep track of all the frauds who will never be heard from again once the loser is gone after next season. They better be thinking of their Vick excuses now cause they will need them. But like I said in the other post, this is actually good news. Seriously, this is good news. We will have a top 5 draft pick next year, Foles or whoever the other young QB on the team is, will still get to start games once Vick is injured or benched again.

Cap space is irrelevant if you don’t use it. We are going to hear a lot of “building through the draft” rhetoric so Lurie can justify pocketing that cap money.

Depending on what the incentives are will depend on whether he sees that money. If it’s “Oh you need to play this many games” type of incentives then there is a good chance he gets the money.

On the surface of it, the team is short on QBs. It probably doesn’t make much sense to go with a sophmore and a freshman and cut a ten year vet. You could argue that Kelly thinks he is smarter than Reid. And God lets hope he is! He might look at the whole picture and say, well Im not asking this guy to throw 35-40 passes a game. Ineed him to drop back thirty times, throw 25 passes and make some plays. Also this guy went to the NFCC when his team led the league in rushing in 2004. So if I run I can win with him. He can also look at 2010, the last four games of 2011 when the O line was very good and the fact that no one could do anything behind last year’s line so that doesn’t count for anything. Could be a lot of things. And you can’t say he is completely wrong. You don’t try to throw the ball forty times with Vick as your QB. Or McNabb. That requires great QB IQ and outstanding accuracy. Vick lacks the first and McNabb the second.

In all likelihood the Eagles will be drafting a QB this year. I bet it’s Geno Smith. Personally I would have liked to wait a year and try to get Teddy Bridgewater next year. They cant go into next year with Vick on a 1 year deal and Dennis Dixon as the back up. They have to be targeting a QB this year. I have a feeling they are going toreach for Smith @ 4.

Also, let us review. We need a NG, another DE, a SLB, at least three DBs and a RT. This is not to mention that you are not winning a championship with these WRs either. So this is a rebuilding year. What difference does it make who the QB is? We are not going to win anyway. We need two years just to get the pieces on defense. Who is our RT going to be next year? Once Joekel is off the board, good luck finding a starter in the draft in the middle rounds. We probably get stuck with Herremans out there again.

Lion…you know thats a different game. QBs do not rule college football. Athletes do. The NFL is so much more refined which is why I was skeptical of Kelly in the first place. Just because RG3 and Kaepernick had some success does not mean the league is changing. Randall was a sensation, then so was Vick and Cam Newton. And how many playoff wins did those guys accumulate?? Not many. It still comes down to the traditional game managing pocket passer. Until one of these read option guys actually wins something lets stop talking about the new revolution. Let’s face it, RG3 got hurt, Kaepernick got there on the strenght of his D and his O line while he went for the ride. What did Newton do as a sophmore? The only thing that is changing about the game is defense doesn’t win championships anymore. But the best defense still wins the shootout.

Yup. I am just disappointed we won’t get a chance to see if Foles has anything special. I was not dilluded into thinking he was the next great QB. I just thought he could be good enough to win with the right guys around him. I really don’t think Vick could win a championship no matter who was around him.
Well I take that back. If he came off the bench and played the Bears without Jim McMahon, avoided playing a great 49er team AND played a team in the SB that was a triple A team, maybe he could throw a bunch of bombs from behind a fortress and put up 35 points in one quarter. He might be able to do that, but LEAD his team to a championship, I can’t see it.

Foles isn’t the guy.

The read option is a red herring.

Kelly watched tape and came to the same conclusion anyone with some sense did: you keep Vick passing 30-35x a game max…use a run heavy offense to keep defense honest…keep it uptempo and voila – you’ll have success.

I think Kelly likes Vick. I think Vick believes. And I think Foles is the odd man out.

I really agree with the much thinner playbook and have been stating it for some time. Peyton Manning has one of he easiest playbooks to rememer in all of football. There is just alot of different options that the receiver has. That is why he is so demanding in regards to the rapport he builds with them.

From Walter Football:

Eagles restructure contract of QB Eagles No. 7: F Grade
So far, the Eagles this offseason have:

Hired a head coach with no past NFL affiliation and whose offensive system doesn’t match most of the personnel on the roster.

Brought in a West Coast-style offensive coordinator who has no experience running the head coach’s offense.

Acquired a defensive coordinator who hasn’t lasted more than two years at any job of the same kind.

And today, the trifecta of idiocy has become a superfecta. The Eagles have restructured the contract of QB Eagles No. 7. He will be the team’s starting quarterback yet again next year.

It was extremely obvious that this move would happen. The day Philadelphia hired Chip Kelly, I wrote:

They may retain QB Eagles No. 7, which would be a disaster because he’s a rapidly declining turnover machine. Also expect them to deal Nick Foles for a mid-round pick – perhaps to Kansas City.

Foles is indeed as good as gone because he doesn’t fit Kelly’s offense. QB Eagles No. 7 does, sort of, but he is a terrible quarterback at this stage of his career. He can’t read defenses or recognize blitzes. His rushing ability is in severe decline. And worst of all, he’s a turnover machine. He’s going to keep throwing picks and fumbling balls. He’ll be responsible for many Eagle losses in 2013, but perhaps this is for the best, as the team will almost definitely be in a position to draft Teddy Bridgewater or Johnny Football atop the 2014 NFL Draft (see 2014 NFL Mock Draft).

This move isn’t being received poorly by the national media, and that’s no surprise. The Philadelphia Daily News’ Les Bowen (@LesBown) tweeted it best:

So far, the only people I’ve seen who like this Vick move are national media guys who must not have been watching him the past two years.

It’s true. Anyone who has paid close attention to the Eagles knows that QB Eagles No. 7 is done as a starter. He shouldn’t be anything more than a backup at this stage of his career, but it’s no surprise that the Eagles, who have made dumb decisions all offseason, do not recognize that.

Look when they were in talk with Dennis Dixon it was clear that Foles wasn’t their first choice at QB.

They have a comp ’cause Foles was the starter at then end of the year AND 2012 was just so bad – makes any coach think whether it was the player or the coaching/scheme.

But best beleive they (the coaches) and Vick beleive he’s gonna be the starter next year ’cause if they didn’t t(or he didn’t) hey would have cut him and owed him nothing and he wouldn’t have agreed to a restructure.

Here’s what I think about this move – I think Michael Vick will beat-out Nick Foles – and I think he would beat-out nearly any NFL quarterback – as long as he can wear a “Red Practice Shirt”. There is nobody in the league that looks as impressive as Vick in practice.

Kelly said that he watched films of Vick… Kelly was also quick to point out that he did not study what the situations were, and what the line assignments were during his film study. So, he basically just looked at Vick’s athletic abilities on tape.

I feel confident that, in time, Kelly will see what Vick’s offers (good and bad), and he’ll make the right decision. But, I don’t think Nick Foles will ever have what Kelly wants. If you like watching the Nick Foles type (drop back) quarterback, you wont be happy watching the Eagles for a while…

So…. we will be getting a solid qb battle between 2..3..or 4 qbs and u guys are pissed why?

As a white guy… i dont care who wins as long as it gets us better.

The key was…. the money. Vick takes a huge pay cut… my guess is its not really worth even close to 10 mil. So… we get cap relief there. So…. lets do what we need to do to fix the d and stop crying about the qb.

Deals incentives add up to 10 mill. My guess the incentives are friendly. No reason to take the deal if they aren’t.

Vick would have been picked up for more than the 3 mill Philly owes him – if he agreed tot he restructure he thinks that a. he isn’t getting traded and b. he is likely to start.

I doubt the incentives are friendly, as they barely are in any NFL contract thats been reported on. You really think the FO would just give him millions for doing something pretty easy(by NFL standards) like passing for 20 tds? He probably will get millions in incentives if he starts all 16 games, wins a playoff games, super bowl etc like these contracts usually look like…

Eagles had the leverage. They know they have no shot to win anything this year with any QB on the roster.
Vick likely had no other options so he had every reason to take this incentive 1 year deal. Pretty simple, his agent would never let him accept this deal, NO NFL player wants to play on a 1 year deal (esp with incentives). If you had options you would never take this deal. They want security, esp guys who will be 33 and know their time is running out.

The base on this is 5.5 reportedly. You honestly think he couldn’t get that on the open market…even as a backup?

Come one.

The Eagles didn’t need leverage. They coulda just cut him and called it a day. The best move for Vick – if there were no assurances he wasn’t going to be traded would be to go on the market as a free agent.

My guess after speaking with Chip he wanted to stay. The Eagles give him the best chance to win now and he’s likely to start. No moving the fam, the wife ha a business here.

And like I said i BET the incentives are friendly…meaning easily achievable so he will see the bulk of the money.

WHere did you get that 5.5 info from? I think you misread something because he is getting at least 5.5 million less (assuming he makes the entire 10) from the 16.5 he had before the restructure. Thats probably where that number came from.

You are not paying a backup 5 million plus in the NFL. And yes I don’t think he would have gotten anything more than a couple million. I’m really not trying to hate on the guy I just really think he wouldn’t get much based on his horrific play, age, turnovers, and being the most injury prone QB in the league. I’m not being unfair, just stating facts. And if he goes somewhere else he comes with media baggage like Tebow, Most NFL teams don’t want to deal with that crap.
And no NFL contract based on incentives are friendly. Usually, most of them are nearly impossible to meet. Just look one up thats been reported on. But thats what happens when a team has all the leverage and the player has none. If he had any whatsoever, he would of never restructured or took his chances in free agency. But his agent obviously knew there were no options out there or he would never advise his client to take a 1 year incentive deal with no security at age 33. Its common sense.

He’s getting a base salary of $7M, $3.5M guaranteed, & can make $10M if he reaches his incentives. Such a stupid, senseless move.

Good news Eagle Fans Chip Kelly has declared a open competition at QB. Nick Foles has nothing to worry about Vick sucks. Why is everyone is so worried?

I know I’m not worried dag. I’m just a little disappointed, because I know that in a competition (during practice) Michale Vick could beat-out most NFL quarterbacks , including Joe Flacco, but I know that Vick will never win a super bowl. I think everybody knows that…

I’m not disappointed that Foles wont be the quarterback – I disappointed the Vick will be the quarterback.

It’s a shame I think Foles will not be given the chance to show his skill. We give up on our young bucks too soon in philly sometimes. Who wouldn’t like vuc back with the sixers right now mr. double double

I could give a rat’s ass what color the QB is. I just want one that can get us a Super Bowl title and I just don’t see it being Vick at this point in his career. He has clearly declined in a number of areas the past two years. If I could ask Chip Kelly two things, they would be 1) Chip, what makes you think Vick can last a whole season and 2) what makes you think Vick isn’t going to continue to turn the ball over at an alarming rate?

Another curious if not bone headed decision by Kelly, this is a disastrous hire, mistakes , compounded mistakes

But, it proves a point I have been harping on for a long time, Reid is laughing his fat arze off, Kelly getting a taste of what he had to contend with for years, ownership surreptitiously directing who gets drafted, who is signed, who plays, while its true Vick more suited to Kelly if Vick could actually play qb, it’s not Kelly’s choice either to be the quarterback.

But, Vick will start, foles will be dealt, probably to Andy Reid and the kc chiefs, many unhappy fans who will watch, pay, cry, gripe no matter, what’s other fans happy to have their idol back at qb, time moves on, eagles will never win with Kelly, nothing new here until Lurie is gone

Everyone knows Vick isnt getting the Eagles to the superbowl. That QB isnt on the roster yet. The hard truth is Foles isnt eithier. Vick is just here to get the system going until the future QB is here thats all.

Kelly hitches his wagon to the former superstar and he’ll quickly be the 4th.

haha, you just read ish and repeat it….Mora got hisself fired. Mora had his best NFL coaching season with Vick, went to NFC Championship game with Vick, and lost to us if you recall…then Mora ended up in Seattle and led that team to his worst ever NFL coaching record of 5-11. Been in college since…Maybe he just wasn’t a good NFL coach?
People were screaming for Reid to be let go, before Vick came along. The only coach that probably should not have been fired at the time it occurred was Reeves, in which I felt hurt Vick’s development to begin with.

I worte QB Vick off, obviously HC Chip Kelly likes what he’s see’s in his potential to play well in his System .. So I congratualte Vick for re-working his deal to remain and battle for the Starters Job.. I would think at $10 Million laced with incentives, that obviously Vick will be highly motivated to learn the system and be in tip-top shape for the OTA’s this Spring.. This move also takes a little pressure off of Foles who will have a bigger adjustment to make.. This is not something I would have done given Vicks last 2 Years of play and his continual injury issues (Vick hasn’t played a 16 Games Season since 2006) and his lack of protecting the ball and himself for that matter..
But let the battles begin and let the best QB win the Starters Job for open competition at all Positions is way overdue and a good sight to see
As far as me being wrong on how I would like to see the Team rebuilt is a moot point, since I am a fan and not the Coach or GM responsibile for these decisions.. I will continue to call them as I see them but as of now, I support Coach Kelly and his decisions for he knows best on what his plans will be moving forward and if Vick plays, well, then that’s great because that means the Eagles as a Team will be playing well.. If Vick does not grasp this offense and struggles learning it, or continues to have injury and ball security issues, then the Team is set back 2 more years.. Hey it’s not my $10 Million, let Lurie and Co spend it as they see fit.. I just this this is a bad move, but my opinion as a fan means nothing.. It appears that Kelly will most liley keep many of the Vetreans that I wanted to see purged and try to Coach them up and put them into better schemes/positions to be successful.. I hope this works for if it does not, than 2013 is a wasted Season and then the complete blow-up/re-build would have to begin for the 2014 Season futher delaying the time of getting them back to playing competitive Playoff Caliber Football.. Time will tell and I hope it works out ..

as much as I hate that vick is back i gotta give the guy props. he is one of the worst qbs in the league and keeps managing to fool these organizations into paying him ridiculous sums of money.

atlanta was dumb to pay him all that money back in the day as he was all hype and the eagles were dumb to give him that contract after what 6 games? and they are dumb to give him 10mil this year too. good for mike though.

hopefully foles beats this guy out in camp so I can at least have some type of hope for the play at our QB position this year, but regardless we are probably looking at a top 5 draft pick again next year
