Michael Vick Cancels Book Signings Because Of Threats

MichaelVick3Eagles quarterback Michael Vick had to cancel a number of upcoming book signings in Exton, Pennsylvania,  South Jersey and Atlanta because of “death threats” made toward him and his family.   It was first reported by Tim McManus of Phillymag.com.

“We understand that a lot of people out there will never forgive him,” Vick’s publicist Chris Shigas said. “But at what point do we say a line has been crossed?”

“While we stand by Michael Vick’s right to free speech and the retailers’ right to free commerce, we cannot knowingly put anyone in harm’s way, and therefore we must announce the cancellation of Mr. Vick’s book-signing appearances”, said Byron Williamson, who is the president of Worthy Publishing, the company which published the book.

Here are some of the threats which Vick received through Facebook:

“I would go there to slit your throat knowing how you treat animals.”

“hope your kids don’t fall in a pool with a battery.”

“I would snap your neck if I met you, your [sic] a piece of trash.”

I agree that Vick’s treatment of the dogs was horrible, but there’s no reason for anybody to be threatening bodily harm on Vick and his family.

I’m not the least bit surprised. I’ve personally witnessed this same hypocritical hatred against this guy in person and on various mssg boards and other media outlets. LMAO at these azzholes wishing harm on another human.

UNfortunately G-Man,
Vick will face threats the remainder of his life from the People who hate him whether it’s a legitimate reason or not.. He will not escape these for his remaining years no matter how or what he does whether and whether it’s on the Football Field, out in the Community or anywhere else he goes out in Public.. It’s a shame that people can’t move on since VIck has paid his debt to Society, but it’s the way some People are and unfortunately and unfairly, it’s a price that is paid, for being in the limelight whether its Sports/Entertainment/Politics/Business Leader, etc,etc .. With the level of Hate that is prevelant in Society today, no one escapes the vile and threats that come from People… It’s a very sad statement of our times..
Look at the Presidents, and other Famous People, they get this garbage all the time.. Even Posters right on here on GCOBB.COm argue and make threats to each other and we’re just Sports Fans.. Good Greif..

That’s too bad but that’s the unfortunate world we live in today. As I’ve said on this site numerous times, I’m not a fan of Michael Vick the QB but I really respect the way he’s turned his life around and stayed out of trouble since coming to Philly. He was a very immature punk while in Atlanta and it’s good to see people right the ship.

This is just his way to promote his book and himself. I am certain he has been getting threats for years yet all of a sudden he has to go out of his way to not go out in public? It sure didn’t stop him from having birthday parties or going to his charity events in the community or the many other public appearances over the years in Philadelphia.

This is exactly want his agent and PR people wanted everyone writing stories about this which promotes his book for free. Smart move by them but total and pure bullshit.

If this was real they wouldn’t be telling all the local sports reporters and bloggers about it they would be working with the police to get justice.

If people really made these threats to him on facebook they would be arrested.

I am telling you right now there was no interest in his book, his story or his appearance. So his agent/PR people are spreading this info to get buzz around his book…

Biglion, while there very well could be some racism involved, believe it or not, there are a lot of people who put animals on the same level as humans and essentially view Vick as a cold blooded killer. That being said, I assure you that just because people threaten his life (while I think it’s appalling), it does not make them racist.

I absolutely do. Many people out there (right or wrong) have an absolute hatred for Vick and think his time in prison was not enough. Being a dog owner doesn’t say anything about you. There isn’t a certain type of demographic that owns dogs. If Vick was white, would you think these threats were racist? Again, it’s certainly possible that some of the threats are racially charged but you can’t just cry racism when a black man has his life threatened.

Funny… so he makes up threats like this to spark more interest in his book. Man some of you really need to get a reality check. People that are raised in environments where there is violence around every corner do not run from violence unless it is valid. You know kind of like Mike knows he needs to slide to protect himself on the field, but won’t slide. Same philosophy… if this man is backing out of appearances, I totally believe that is is valid. Now if only those cowards would put a face behind there threats… You want to make a threat, MAN UP to my face. Especially when you involve my family, children…

No HE doesn’t make up anything his Agent/PR people do and maybe they didn’t make it up but rather stretched the truth or maybe just used the threats he has been getting for years as an excuse. Have you read any quotes from Vick about this? No, I wonder why.

And just to be clear facebook is not anonymous, which is where the “threats” have come from according to this article. And it is illegal to threaten death, murder and similar so why aren’t these guys arrested being investigated, at bare minimum named?

If you really think these threats just started today and coincided with his book being released and the threats were never significant enough to cancel public appearances before but are significant enough today then you my friend do not understand the way these leaches do their business…

It isn’t just Mike Vick’s security they are worried about — it is the facilities which would accommodate his appearances. Protest Vandalism and the insurance needed to protect property, and the added security costs money and the profit the book might bring in business to a venue/store is paltry compared to the potential destruction and added security costs.

If there were real threats, IF, the psychopaths need to be found, & prosecuted, to the full extent, of the law! But am I the only 1 skeptical, of the convenience, & timing of this? He’s been here 4 years, & there have been NO documented, nor reported death threats, now, all of a sudden, when he’s out promoting his book, that is struggling to sell, he’s getting death threats, that BTW, is all over, EVERY News & Sports outlet, in America! HMMMMM! Maybe it’s my background talking, maybe not?!? My BS meter, is ticking a bit! If this conveniently disappears, with no resolution, or convictions, it’s BS!!!! Since 911, terroristic threats, are not taken lightly, so if this conveniently disappears, or gets swept under the rug, it’s a crock of cow $#!T!!!!

To be honest, I thought Vick passed away like 2 years ago..
Didn’t the CB from the Vikings end it for him at the 50 Yard Line on that dreadful play in Dec of 2010 which eneded Vick’s Run as a Quality Starting QB, began the end of the AR era as we knew it and supplanted the City of Philadelphia as a “City of Softies” for cancelling a Monday Night Game because of a few inhces of Snow.. Vick,Reid, The Eagles and the City have never been the same since that fateful play where CB Blitz from a wide-open formation on the left siee and VIck stood there like a Statue and never saw him, then got sacked, then fumbled, then failed to tackle the guy and the rest they say, is History.. This is the Play I remember the most from the Mike Vick Era .. Pathetic to say the least and lost to a Interim HC in Leslie Fraizier, and to a QB making his NFL Debut in Joe Webb and to a Team (Vikings) that had noting but Pride to play for while the Eagles blew a chance for a 2nd Seed, a bye week and a Home Game.. Eagles have been losers ever since ..

The threats were on Facebook. Finding people on social media is extremely simple. And if someone committed a serious crime and talked about it afterwards on social media they would be in jail the next day. And like you said in one of your other posts about his kids, a serious death threat to innocent young children is no joke. Thus, if the threat was serious those assholes would be in jail right now.

Biglion821 you asked:

“He just signed a new contract, you think he’s worried about book sales?”

Yea he just signed a new contract and took a $9 million paycut this year, and no longer is signed through 2015, so he lost another $27 million there. Overall he has lost $35 million with his new contract. And if he plays like he did last year this year he wont get another contract.

So to answer your question yes I do think Mike Vick and his team are very worried about book sales especially when he is still carrying a large debt load. VERY CONCERNED.

– just because the threats haven’t been documented doesn’t mean that they didn’t occur. Do you really believe Vick has been with the Eagles this long and hasn’t received a single threat? Hasn’t received a single threat since being released from prison? you can go on any media outlet and read comments where people have ill wishes to this man…

MHeShe – you are a disgrace…talking about a man receiving death threats, but yet there has to be some other motive…this type of article and the responses, shows clearly who the Vick haters are. You hate Vick fine, you dislike him, fine…maybe he deserves threats…But what the fuck did his little kids do, to be included…This is bigger than Vick and your feeling towards him…if any man ever threatened my kids, that would be the last threat they ever made!

Also, with the news of Vick owning a Belgian Malinois, a dog said to be aggressive, there has been more of a uprising of hatred spoken toward Vick as of late.

If Vick wants people to forget his past and stop talking about it, then how about you don’t write a book about it. It common sense but obviously he doesn’t have any.

Im just saying he can’t have it both ways. Its like Ray Lewis agreeing to do Sportscenter specials a week before the SB about the murder case but then when people ask him questions about it a week later at SB media day he gets all upset about it.

And I don’t think its about racism, its about the sadistic crime he committed. Stop sugarcoating the crime. And to piss people off more, he tries to make money off of it. But like I said above, he asked for it.Tough luck.

Biglion, I could honestly care less what athletes do off the field as long as it doesn’t translate to their ability on the field. I want Vick gone because he sucks at football.
To summarize my point in my posts, if an athlete wants people to stop bringing up their criminal past then don’t write a damn book about it. He brings this crap on himself which is why i just don’t feel any type of sympathy for him.
Like if you want to make money off being a dog killer go have a blast if thats what you enjoy doing…but I’m not going to feel sorry for you at all when people throw hatred at you. You asked for it and you can’t have it both ways.
I mean thats like Donte Stallworth/leonard Little writing books to make money off their drunk driving experience….
Or Sandusky writing a book to make money off his child molestation experience.
They would get all kinds of threats too (and Im sure they already have). And wouldn’t feel sorry for them at all either.

Sandusky will be in jail till he dies so obviously he can’t do anything now but those PSU ass kissers/ delusional excuse makers always bring up his community service too.

Nobody sugar coated the crime pheags, calling it sadistic is a point of perspective, in the south, other parts, dogs are treated differently, some have no moral problem with what he did, but here in the liberal north east, some love, treat their dogs better than the homeless on the street, sleep with their dogs, make out with them, to me they are weirdos, next they will want to marry their dog, my dog, I am referred to as master in my house, he sleeps on the floor, I disciplined the hell out if him when he was young, he follows my lead, and he will never be in my bed, that’s where I sleep and take care of business

Eagles released CB Nnamdi Asomugha.
It’s fascinating to examine where Asomugha ranks among the biggest free-agent busts in NFL history. He’s awfully high up there. Signed to a five-year, $60 million contract in 2011 that made him the league’s top-paid cornerback, Asomugha gave Philly one season of mediocre play and another of truly putrid performance. An easy burn victim in 2012, Asomugha came away with 55 tackles and one interception. Going on age 32, Asomugha’s recovery speed and confidence seem to have evaporated. There were rumors in Philadelphia that he’s also lost his passion for the game.

Top 3 maybe even #1. He brought absolutely nothing. It was stunning to see how quickly his skills eroded.

Well I’ll pick it up (race) Big. I’m beyond sick of assholes like cig, dcar, and mhenski and their selective outrage. Actually it’s more about their sense of entitlment. Whenever someone black mentions race, somehow it’s automatically playing this bs “race card” Like this country has a squesly clean history in regards to it. But somehow white punks “like” them can openly state or vaguely imply/infer race and it’s somehow legitimate or a sincere observation. This board often time saw some of these same jack-asses claim they “know” some “vick supporters” were only liking either him or some other black player(qb) just because of race. And the self righteous(white) on this site wouldn’t say shit. Phuck them! just because they may have race fatique when it comes to the legacy of racism, doesn’t mean that it isn’t real when mentioned. THAT’S THE PROBLEM! So damn quick to mention some phuccing card instead of dealing with the reality of the situation. ANYONE WHO PRETENDS TO NOT SEE RACE IN THIS VICK THING IS A LYING SAC OF SHYT ASSCLOWN!!

Race in what Vick thing? The dog fighting, I agree, it’s mostly white, liberal numbskulls who are cowards with the threats, but the fans who judge him on his play, no way, if Vick or any Philly player is good, he will be appreciated regardless of color, but he’s not that good, and his defense repertoire is filled with excuses, and it’s largely by blacks, some of whom can never see clearly enough to evaluate his talents or the talents of a white qb like foles

So stick your racisit indignation up your ass, it works both ways, you are just as bad as the white element who judges on color, veiled by bullshit criticism that old whitey doesn’t have “it”

Jake you can’t paint everyone with the same brush I think when people are critical of his QB play it doesn’t mean they are racist, but it bothers me that some on this site act like race has nothing to do with nonsense spewed about him.

If you are a decent person and you have lived through some struggles of your own, you learn not to judge others. Michael Vick is not the monster some people make him out to be.

As hard as it might be to believe – I think I could learn to like Mike Vick if the Eagles won a SB with him at QB.

No doubt Irish, Vick would be beloved by most real eagle fans if he delivered, he’s a cool cat, tough dude, but he hasn’t delivered , he has also been given more , way more opportunity than most, but he’s just not that good, kind of like daddy ball in youth sports, being advanced, because of who you are versus how you play

@mhenski

I read just fine azzhole. I’m sick of mofos like you with your moral authority bs. You sit here and show nothing but a clear biased agenda and act surprised that everyone isn’t as stupid as you believe and can see right through you.

” and his defense repertoire is filled with excuses, and it’s largely by blacks, some of whom can never see clearly enough to evaluate his talents or the talents of a white qb like foles”
Precisely my point. Somehow when blacks point out racism, it’s bias and playing up race; but clowns like you are being informative and honest. Blacks as you imply are somehow always making excuses for the black qb and shyting on the white one; but jake is just being candid and not playing the the race card? Ok got.
