Peters Said He’s Healthy And Has Been Ready To Go For Awhile

JasonPeters1Eagles Pro Bowl offensive tackle Jason Peters had a big crowd of local media members circling him today at the Nova Care Complex. This was the first time we heard from him in more than a year.

Of course we all know about the Achilles tendon tear which he suffered during the off season a year ago.  He in fact ruptured the tendon twice, but he looked healthy today and looks like he’s ready to go.

He talked more than I have ever heard him talk since he’s been a Philadelphia Eagles.  He didn’t hesitate or stutter one bit, when he talked about getting back to the same evel of play which made people call him the best offensive tackle in the NFL.

He let us know that he was ready to play and he has been ready to play since last November or December.

“I could have, but I didn’t want to risk it with a losing season,” Peters said. “The coaches kind of held me back a little.”

That was a good move.  I’ll bet you LeSean McCoy is sitting somewhere smiling right now because a healthy Peters will probably mean another big season for the running back in 2013.  A healthy Peters immediately makes the Eagles offensive line much better.

Peters also talked about how hard it was for him to sit and watch his teammates on the offensive line play so poorly.  He wasn’t able to go out there and inspire them with his dominating play.

“It was a big difference,” Peters said. “I’m a starter. I’m the No. 1 offensive lineman in the league. Me being out there carried everyone else.”

I know he must have felt like grabbing Demetress Bell and dragging him off the field.

Peters said he’s not changing anything in his game for the new coach.  The Big Fella said he will continue doing things the way he always has regardless of who the coach is.

“If Tom Brady has a new coach, he doesn’t change his game, Peters said.  “He keeps playing like Tom Brady”.

Some of the guys asked him if his new offensive line coach wanted him to change anything.  New offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland used footage of Peters to teach his offensive tackles how to play the position.

The Big Fella isn’t going to need to change anything.

He said he has no problem with the Eagles drafting an offensive tackle in the first round because he has no plans of letting anybody take his job.

A Beast and the Best All-Around Player on the Team (along with L McCoy)
He will be back with a vengance and ready to kick some ass in 2013..
A healthy and focused Peters is good news for QB’s Vick or Foles and the TE’s (Celek & Casey) who now won’t have to stay in as often to help block and can get out in Pass Routes like they are supposed to…

Best player on the team hands down. His presence was missed last year.

Talk is cheap! Go out there & stay healthy. Easier said than done, after 2 torn Achilles tendons, at his size, & 31 years old. If he is truly healthy, & can be anything close to his former self, that’s 1 less thing to worry about, but the Birds CAN NOT take the chance. They must still add at least 2 O-linemen, high in the draft, &/or sign Winston. Kelce might not be ready for the opener, Watkins is a dog, & Herremans can’t play RT. So the O-line, is still a major issue. What alot of the posters fail to realize, is this line was horrid, even when they were healthy! So what makes any of you think, it will be better a year+ later, after all of the injuries? As I stated many times, the O-line, is just as big of a priority, as the Secondary!

Peters-Mathis-Kelce-Herremans-#4 Pick? I likes it……And of course throw in some depth in the later rounds too.

I like Peters. Mathis, Barrett, Warford, Fisher a lot better

I am fine with Kelce as our Center, but I do feel that a suitable back up should be drafted (Brian Schwenke) brought in from free agency, or move Watkins to Center as a back up. He was being tried out as a center, the year he was drafted anyway during the combine, and the senior bowl.

I have been on record several times as saying I don’t like Evan Mathis even a little bit, and would trade him . No more finesse blockers, like Andy Reid would draft – (outside Shawn Andrews), but more roadgraders that will knock someone off the ball, and bring up the snot bubbles in the process. Thats not Mathis, or Herremanns.

Herremanns, Mathis, and Watkins were the weak links along the Offensive Line, that would allow rushers to be in Vicks face, a half second after he said hike.

My desired Line is – Peters, Fluker, Kelce, Warford, Fisher

Peters is still the highest paid OL in the NFL – I didn’t like what I saw out of Ryan Howard last year off a similar injury so I’m skeptical.

About the Oline……..

Andy is gone, that helps our Oline out in a HUGEEEEEE way. Think about it….. how many OLmen have gone elsewhere and played well? Look at the colts starting OL last year and you will see our backups from a few years ago. We can blame it on the QB alll day long (and that would be PART of the problem) but the bigger responsability falls on the coach who called all those plays.

Kelly wants the ball out fast and he wants his OL to push for the run. thats 2 HUGE +’s for them;
1) VIck or Foles or whomever will have to get the ball out at about the 2 second mark. I could slow a 300 man for about 1 second so… this shouldnt be a problem. If the QB chooses to hold on longer… I believe he will be benched. PART of the problem in the past is that andy tried to stretch the field deep and bomb it out. This got the QB’s killed (before Vinnie gets all hissyfit on me, i point out that it’s PART of the problem.. not all of it).

2) Spreading it out and running the ball will give our fatboys a chance to crush DE’s and DT’s. Im telling you folks….. if they do this…. teams will HAVE to adjust. Our Oline is still somewhat big and I think only going to get bigger,

Agree….partially…..

Remember, eery pass play called by Reid (or any coach) has Wrs attacking multiple levels. While the primary may be a deep option, there are always other options (RB in swinging out, TE in flat) that are available.

A good QB (of which MV7 is not) reads what will happen with the called play, before the snap, and then gets the ball out accordingly. If he sees blitzer on left, no TE chip etc, then he can change protection, or hit a checkdown that is available. Quick slant directly to the blitzer’s side (a Brady/Manning staple)

And as I’ve stated many times, every play the Eagles called had WRs at multiple levels….many people on here present the Reid playbook as one page with straight red lines stretching down the page)

Reid called plays attacking all levels. The QB then decided where to go with the ball. Because he’s always looking to be on ESPN with his sideways hat wearing buddy Desean, MV7 always looked for the 65 yrd heave 1st.

MV& was in the top 5 in the league for holding the ball every single year of his career, for every single coach he’s had.

You put the onus on the coach, I’ll put it where it belongs every time.

We’re not talking about Reid’s offense and we still don’t know what offense Kelly is going to run. Blame whoever you want if it makes you feel good but we’ll know for sure who the problem is this year.

@Vinny. Im confused please explain this to me. How can QBs straight out of high school. 3 different QBs in the last 4 years at Oregon plus QBs who I watched weren’t really great passers, which none are in NFL, can they run Chip Kellys offense but a NFL, former #1 pick, 4 time pro bowler, who runs faster and throws better than any of those garbage QBs at Oregon. What f%^king defense were those Oregon QBs reading.lmao. That freshman QB couldn’t read shit and couldn’t throw last year and they scored 50 points a game. Name me one Oregon QB when Chip Kelly was there that could read a defense.lol.

So Im to believe that the 17-20 year olds at Oregon can run Chip Kellys offense but Mike Vick cant. That’s just hard to believe.

Because Mike Vick enjoys giving the ball to the other team. A lot.

So Vinnie what your telling me is Jake Rodrigues a freshman , and Marcus Mariota a sophomore QBs at Oregon can score 50 points a game and run this offense but Mike Vick cant? hmmm. Im just curious. So both these guys have quick releases and good decision making skills and are more talented that Vick is what you are saying. How does that work? Because in Chip Kellys offense Im told you need this. Obviously they came right of High School better than Vick.lol shit. Maybe Vick should call up Rodrigues for advice.

No. I don’t think he could. He likes fumbling too much. You do know he’s top 3 all time in the NFL for fumbles (% wise).

Kelly hates turnovers.

So no.

Besides, At what point in the earlier post did I mention Oregon anyway….question/discussion was why Eagles’ Oline sucked.

I really don’t have to say anything. There is some logic to this thing, and Daggolden, you as always have stated it my friend. I pay more attention to what you say more than most. Always logical. Good Post.

Whoever Kelly puts on the field will run his Pro -Offense nicely..except Dick -xon……..Bum…….

So…. the TE was out in a flat last year? Really? I thought he was mostly in to block. Hmm. What WR was running underneath? Was it Tiny Djax or Maklin who was getting banged up every game?

U live in a fantasy world.

You can have your air it out all day football. Ill take a run game and quick throws ANYDAY.

Or RB, Or slot Wr. Or someone.

Stevo’s world.

Vick in huddle. Listens to headset and hear’s MM or Reid say, “All go!!” Every play. All the time. 5 guys deep. 5 guys deep. 5 guys deep.

All they every called. Vick just had to wiat there why the “play developed” Every time.

So ridiculous. Vick had other options. Vick didn’t use them. Always gunning for the highlight.

Wow to hear you explain it football is so simple…you don’t consider circumstances…not every play has a RB going to the flat or a TE on a quick out…On many occasion the Eagles TE was held in to block as well as RB (max protect)…Defense isn’t always playing soft…blitzes are sometimes disguised as well so you don’t know who exactly is coming. Part of the problem is Vick holds the ball at times looking to make something happen….But the other side of that coin, is throughout his career he has held the ball at times and made a play to break the opposing teams back..The other part of the problem was play calling…sending the WR on too many intermediate/deep routes…Max protect the Eagles were always looking to air it out…That quick out to DJAX is there anytime the Eagles want it…of course that can only happen when he is not running deep with his back to the QB… I hear what you are saying, but it is not as simple as you make it out to be.

Under AR’s System and Philosophy, OL Coache Castillo and even Howard Mudd’s techniques were for the OL to be “Receivers and Catchers of the opposing DL” instead of being the Attacker and Aggressive Blocking that is needed to beat them to the punch… It’s how they Coached and Drafated and probably why Players like Demtress Bell, danny Watkins, King Dunlap, Winston Justice, Max Jean-Gilles and on and on were ineffective in this Technique instead of firing out and beating the DL to the Spot instead of being timid, on their heels and receiving the blow and momentum from Defenders

Well Realtalk….obviously that’s not true. We just watched a NFL coach roll out a guy game after game that put the ball on the ground or into the arms of the other team over and over.

On top of 24 ints, the ball was bouncing around on the turf 21x over his past 26 starts.

Read that again….over the past 26 games the ball was wither bouncing around on the ground or heading the other way in a defender’s arms 45x. Yet Reid kept rolling him out there.

And this was not an aberration.

So coaches may say they hate it. But its what they do that matters.

Kelly has said he hates turnovers….if he rolls the 3rd all time fumbler and career 3% int guy out on the field opening day, then he is a liar.

Vinnie…didn’t Foles have some turnovers? the QB with the least amount of turnovers on this Eagles roster is Dennis Dixon…So by your logic, I guess Dixon will be the opening day starter..

That’stoo easy Realtalk.

Foles had 5 ints and 8 fumbles in his 6.5 games…..2x a game average…..the same rate as Vick…..and much too high……..

However….that’s too simple.

You do realize that 3 of those ints and 4 of the fumbles came in his first game and a half right?

Even you can give a guy 1 start to acclimate to the NFL can’t you?

The remaining 5 games saw only 2 ints and 4 fumbles. The ball on the turf or the other team’s arms about 1x per game. Probably too high, but about 1/2 the rate of the former superstar.

To compare to other rookies

Luck 18 ints and 10 fumbles over 16 games….1.5/game
RGIII 5 ints and 12 fumbes over 15 games….1/game
Wilson 10 ints 6 fumbles over 16 games….1/game
Kap 3 ints and 9 fumbles over 13 games….1/game

Take away Foles first start and he’s right there with the rest of the rookies…

ANd much better than MV7 who after a decade is still putting the ball on the turf or into the arms of the other team at double the above rates…..

BTW Dixon has 2 ints and 2 fumbles in 3 starts…..about 1/game also….

Ill remind the simpleton 1 more time about my post that caused so much of this back and forth……

The blog post was about Peters…. and his work on the Oline. I was stating simply….. that Andy Reid being gone will add a huge boost because Andy didnt run the ball. Im sticking behind that statement. Im not a Vick fan and I happen to agree that getting Vick off the field would most likely be another thing that helps the Oline… but as i said before….. If the QB holds the ball, NO MATTER WHO HE MAY BE, he will find himself on the bench under Kelly.

Peters is the best player on that roster! I enjoyed listening to Peter’s return interview, primarily the part about it being difficult for any incoming lineman to get his job. The Eagles need more lineman like Peters and Herremans.
