Fantasy Football 2013 Preview: Wide Receivers/Tight Ends

DeSeanJackson12Depth this year is strong at receiver, and there are only a few big players at the tight-end spot.  Rankings based on .5 for reception, 1 pt for every 15 yards receiving, 6 points for every touchdown.

Wide-receivers

1. C. Johnson– Worthy of taking in the first round without second guessing yourself.

2. B. Marshall– Cutler looks for him always, new offensive minded head-coach.

3. A.J. Green (After 9 week  TD streak, only 1 over final 6 weeks.  Will decrease in touchdowns this year.

4. J. Jones (Steps up gameplay for road games/stays healthy for a full 16 games)

5. Dez Bryant (had to account for injury woes)

6. R. Cobb– Will approach 100 receptions, 1400 total yards.  Nelson/Jones will prevent double digit touchdowns.

7. D.Thomas-Huge/fast with a QB who has a laser.  Welker and Decker need love too.

8. P. Harvin– The guy does a little bit of everything, awards for ppr and return yards increase value.

9. R. White-Although J. Jones is younger/big play guy, Ryan still looks for White, often and consistently.

10. V. Cruz-Value depends on Nicks health and others drawing defenders from constant double teams.

11. L. Fitzgerald-New quarterback/head coach.  Fitz is now playing all WR spots.  85 rec/1250/10-12 td

12. A. Johnson-Always a concern to stay healthy.  Shaub very streaky as QB, but AJ #1 on passing radar.

13. W. Welker– Manning will look his way, but Decker and Thomas will get theirs too.  90 rec/1100/8 td.

14. M. Colston– Healthier as of late.  Saints back with Payton’s return.  Colston a big red zone target.

15.  R. Wayne– Still getting it done, production will slide with a more West-Coast passing attack.

16. J. Nelson- Teammate Cobb will man the slot, but Nelson has deep long ball chemistry with Rodgers.

17. D. Bowe-Reid loves to throw, Bowe has produced with qb’s far worse than A. Smith.

18.  V. Jackson-Stats from 2012 will come down.  D. Martin the go-to, solid #2 WR option, not a #1!

19. E. Decker– Even if he is the 3rd look for Manning, a pretty solid weekly play for a 38-40 TD passing QB.

20.  S. Smith-Panthers a run first team, and Smith doesn’t have much help.  75 receptions/1100/7 TD.

21.  M. Wallace-Huge upside as a deep speed threat.  Lives/dies by the big play, weekly up and downs.

22. D. Amendola-Pats will throw, Amendola #1 target without Hernandez, Gronk hurt.  Can he stay healthy?

23.  J. Maclin-Best all around receiver on a mysterious offense under Chip Kelly.

24. H. Nicks-If healthy, top 12 WR.  Eli looks his way, but so does the NYG medical staff.

25.  A. Brown-Without Wallace and Miller, Brown all alone, can he create space ad be a #1 WR?

26.  James Jones- TD’s won’t repeat from last year.  Gained trust of QB with decrease in drops.

27.  T. Smith– Without Boldin, Smith as a 3rd yr WR will be the main receiving threat.

28. A. Boldin-Without Crabtree, Kaepernick will look for Boldin, how much does he have left in the tank?

29.  G. Jennings– With little around him, how will he look with a below average QB and double coverage?

30.  D. Jackson– Elite speed doesn’t scare defenders anymore.  Bounce back this year.  64 rec/1075/8 td.

31.  T.Y. Hilton– Really came on strong last half of season.  This seasons R. Cobb?

32.  T. Austin-Rams moved up to draft him.  Bradford accurate, lack of run game causes some concerns.

33.  P. Garcon-Health for him/QB.  Gamble here, but at the right ADP, not a bad roster acquisition.

34.  M. Williams-Up and down, what will he do this year?  Borderline #3 WR, I just don’t trust Freeman.

35.  S. Johnson-Coming off a big time injury, QB play is a big ?  I’ll let another owner draft him.

36. L. Moore– Had a really nice season last year.  He is the slot guy, Saints throw a lot.

37. D. Alexander– The best WR on the Chargers roster?  Rivers will be better, but who will he throw to?

38. K. Britt-Injuries and off field issues have hampered this once promising big-body WR.

39. J. Gordon-Suspended for the first 2 games, weak QB, elite player-making speed.

40. M. Austin-Can he stay healthy for an entire season with a pass-happy approach by Dallas?

41  D. Moore– Someone on the Raiders will have to be the “go-to” guy, but how good is M. Flynn?

42. E. Sanders– With A. Brown getting the best man-to-man coverage, Sanders should benefit.

43. C. Givens-Lead Rams last year as their main WR.  A lot of youth still with Quick, Austin, Stedman.

44.  A. Jeffrey-Looked promising before an injury ate away at his rookie season.

45. S. Rice-With Harvin commanding attention, look for Rice to pull in 65 receptions, 1000, 7 td.

46.  Michael Floyd-Looked good for a bad Cardinals offense last year in the final quarter of the season.

47. V. Brown-Coming back from an injury, showed some potential in 2011.

48.  K. Wright– Sophomore receiver with a lot of talent, but QB for the Titans lacks a lot of talent.

49.  D. Hopkins– With Andre Johnson and Daniels, Hopkins should present Shaub with a 3rd option.

50. S. Holmes-Who knows what this guy has left; but giving the Jets some love in the top 50.

Tight-Ends

1. J. Graham– Performs like a top 5 wide receiver.  Clearly the best of the best.

2. T. Gonzalez-Gets red-zone targets which you want from your tight-end.

3. J. Witten-Will continue to produce 85-90 rec, 900-1000 yards, but touchdowns always minimum.

4. Gronkowski-injuries resulting in major surgeries; no Hernandez, someone will gamble…..

5.  V. Davis-Could be used more as a WR with Crabtree most likely lost for the season.

6. D. Pitta-No Boldin for Flacco.  After T.Smith, Flacco will look for Pitta downfield.

7.  O. Daniels-Stayed healthy last year.  Casey gone, production should stay the same, maybe increase.

8.  K. Rudolph-Could be a top 5 with a better QB.  Streaky, but a lot of talent still to show.

9.  B. Myers-Eli utilizes his tight-ends, and Myers showed good hands in Oakland last year.

10.  G. Olsen-Athletic and will average around that 4 reception for 60 yards each week.  TD’s will be low.

11. A. Gates-He is a name more than anything.  He still has good hands, just very heavy feet.

12. M. Bennett-Big with decent speed.  New offense will give him a chance to really shine in Chicago.

13.  J. Finley-With Driver and Jennings no longer part of the Pack, could Finely regain some form?

14.  C. Fleener– Allen looked more of the prized 2012 tight-ends Indy selected.  Fleener will shine..

15.  J. Cook-Rams have a lot of young, unproven talent.  They also have several tight-ends.

16.  J. Gresham-Drafting a tight-end in the first round and Sanu back in the fold will weaken productions.

17. D. Keller-Will get looks in the middle with Wallace and Hartline spreading the secondary.

18. B. Celek-Until Ertz takes the #1 spot from Celek, he swill still produce 50 receptions, 650 yds, 3-5 td.

19. B. Pettigrew-Production has dropped last few years.  Too inconsistent even with a high passing team.

20. F. Davis-Will he regain form that made him a top 10 tight-end before last season’s severe injury.

Vernon Davis should be #2 on the TE list.

You left my boy Cecil Shorts off of your WR list. Dude will have a 1000 yard season this year. Should be in the 20s or 30s especially getting all of the throws the first 4 weeks with Blackmon suspended.

Who is going to throw the ball to him though Bugs.. Gabbert or Henne..
I think the Jags will go to a Power Run first Team and slow the pace of the game down big time as they have a new System, a completely rebuilt and very young Defense that will take it while to come together.. See lots of RB’s MJD and back-up RB R Jennings who got a lot carriers last year filling in for him and TE Mercedes Lewis..
But Cecil Shorts is a very promising WR and definitely under the Radar..

Almost 1K last year, so I think that he actually increases that number this year. The run will open up the pass.

Don’t see many new names, under the radar names on this list ..

Here are a couple of WR’s, in no particular order, who I think are posied for big Season’s, Stat’s wise..

Golden Tate – Seahawks – FInished strong last season as he and QB Russell Wilson make a connection with each other
Micheal Floyd – Cardinals – Finally has a QB (C Palmer) who can at least get the ball out and with Larry Fitz seeing Double Teams, Floyd should see a lot from Palmer come his way in New HC Bruce Arians passing attack
Micheal Williams – TB Bucs – Vincent Jackson will also see lots of double-teams allows Williams to get singled up and take advantage
Jeremy Maclin – Eagles – In his Contract Year and wants to really prove he is worthy of a Top WR and wants out of Philly and a Big Deal from a Mid-west Team , I expect him to put up big #’s this Year and leave via Free-Agency to the Chiefs next year
Brian Hartline – Dolphins – All he does is catch the ball and move the chains. Has not made big TD’s yet, but think he will thrive under Dolphins pass-happy system in Year 2 of HC & OC Sherman & QB Tannehill being together
TY HIlton – Colts – Playmaker in the D-Jax mold but mentally and physically stronger. WIth Reggie Wayne still getting double Teams, double TE Sets with Fleener & Allen, TY Hilton will getsa lot of on 1 on 1 Deep Routes that QB Luck will take advantage of
Josh Gordon – Browns – Will see a lot of Balls his way after a nice productive Rookie Season last Year.. If Weeden can stabilize his game and be more consistent, then Gordon will get his share of #’s …
Antonio Brown – Steelers – Will replace the depared Mike Wallace as the Steelers primary Deep-Threat and as long as Big-Ben is playing, he has a knack of finding WR’s open deep down the field on busted plays.. I see Brown benifit greatly with the more snaps he will play and make some big plays with , big chunks of yardage and TD’s
Sydney Rice – Seahawks — Kind of flew under the radar last year but came on strong in the 2nd half and when healthy still is a big red-zone target and will get his share of TD Receptions from QB WIlson who will find and look for him
Kendall Wright – Titans – another Rookie who came on strong last year after a slow start.. Titans will be a run first smash-mouth Offense with a rebuilt OL & A RB Tandem on C Johnson & S Greene, but if Locker matrues and develop’s he will find a speedy target in Wright who makes plays..
Alshon Jeffrey – Bears – will benefit from all the double-teams on Brandon Marshall, now as long as QB Cutler looks his way more oftend, Jeffrey could really have a nice sneak up Season…
As far as this Seasons Rookie WR’s, I expect nice Seasons from the following

– Steadman Bailey – SL Rams – Probably the best hands and polished WR from last years Drafat, not super fast but sneaky fast and very good in and out of his breaks and great hands.. Watch for Rams T Austin get a lot of Hype, but WR Baily will probably end up with some very good #’s too
– DeAndre Hopkins – Texans – Probably the most all-around polished and explosvie WR out of last years Draft.. Good Speed, Hands, Size, can he put it together and learn Texan’s Passing System at the NFL Level will be the key and playing alongside WR Andre Johnson and RB A Foster takes al ot of Pressure off
– Robert Woods – Buffalo BIlls – Another very good Route Runner with great Hands & Coachable.. Will not run away from anyone but will have a nice Rookie Season and probably become a favorite target of QB E Manuel moving forward..

WR’s who I stay away from and are no longer the Players they used to be
– Pierre Garcon – Redskins – Hurt too often, work ethic questioned
– D-Jax – Eagles – How will he adjust to short & intermediate routes, can he catch over the middle, slants, run some reverses in Chip Kelly’s high paced Offense, if not, he will begin to lose snaps to D Johnson who is “mentally tougher” than D-Jax and will run all the routes neccessary if called upon ..
– S Holmes – Jets – Attitude issues, the QB Carosel that the Jets currently have, just don’t see him with a big Season
– Miles Austin – Cowboys – Has decreased in Production in each Season since signing his big deal a couple of years back, continually injured with nagging hamstring issues..

TE’s are coming next

Just trying to get my Trade-Alerts in Practive for the busy Summer Season..
But in actually, the Pats need a TE,WR and a Pass-rushing DE..
Trent COle makes too much $$, THarbor probably doesn’t make this Eagle Roster but is the kind of athletic TE that Belecheck likes and the Pats are stacked with young Talent at CB with Siging Talib, Arrington,Ras-Dowling and Draft Pick Logan from Rutgers.. McCourtey Deal comes up next Season and is the type of PLayer that the Pats move to avoid re-signign and overpaying for their Players

None of which can Run or very Athletic
TE Gronkowski will start Season on PUP list putting him out to mid October
TE Jake Ballard coming off 2 Injured ACL and was slow before his injuries
TE M Hoomanawanui has 25 Career Catches in 3 Seasons with the Rams ..
The Pats need a TE who can stretch the field, their Offense is based on this since they have no real legitimate Deep Threats on the outside at the WR position and utilize the small possesion type of WR’s like Amendola, Edleman, Mike Jenkins, Donald JOnes.. Have you looked at this Receiving Corps the Pats currently have.. It’s one of the weakest in all the NFL..
maybe the Eagles can send them Celek, buy Belecheck would prefer the more athletic Harbor ..

Well that would be great, but not sure why the Pats would take the Birds drek though.
