New Era Begins With 2013 Training Camp

ChipKelly8The arrival of the rookies and selected veterans means it’s finally here; training camp.  It will be strange at first that Lehigh University has been substituted out by the NovaCare Complex in Philadelphia.  I like this decision, as well as many of the decisions made so far by first year coach Chip Kelly.  This is not just another season of Philadelphia Eagles football; it’s a new chapter that will ultimately change how we view our beloved team forever.

The excitement that fuels every word I share with you is nothing less than the rebirth of the team I’m so proud to support.  After what we have all suffered with over the last two agonizing seasons of the Andy Reid tenure; in Chip I trust to make us elite once again.  I’m already obsessed with everything about what Kelly and his team of coaches will be doing.  I want to listen to sports talk radio and hear the formation designs that Kelly has his players in.  I want ex-NFL players who now cover this football team to attempt explaining the speed to which Kelly has his players executing plays.  Every article that mentions Philadelphia Eagles I want to read and then text my friends to continue the conversation.  We as fans have so much pent up passion that we were unable to unleash of the course of the past two seasons.  We were ultimately disconnected from the sport that bonds us.  It’s safe again; safe to keep your head high and proud when speaking of your Philadelphia Eagles.  It’s safe to buy late season tickets and not worry about the product that will be on the field.  No matter how this team performs, they will not lack focus, passion, competitiveness or a desire to win.

Impact players arrive today at camp.  James Casey will have multiple roles for the offense this season.  Lane Johnson will join a group of solid veterans who look to form a gritty, powerful and imposing offensive line behind an ex-Alabama coach who expects his men to be physical.  Ertz will be used both at the tight-end spot and split out wide.  Logan will be part of the defensive line rotation in the new hybrid 4-3 formation.  Wolfe and Poyer will both see immediate time playing special teams and dime packages where their tough style of play can be used to jam opposing wide receivers.  The biggest wildcard is quarterback Matt Barkley.   Will a few solid practices showcasing his intelligence for the offense and accuracy with his delivery be enough to be mentioned in the starting quarterback battle?

I’m fired up; it’s game time Philadelphia, and our Eagles are going to be something very special to watch moving forward.  I can’t predict who the starting quarterback is going to be for the season opener in Washington, and although I hope it’s not Vick, my gut instinct tells me it will be #7 under center on September 9th.

On a completely opposite topic, one of the things that I liked most about where Chip Kelly came from was the uniforms his Oregon Duck players showcased.  I love the Kelly green jerseys and the black alternatives that we rarely see anymore.  Chip needs to call his owner buddy over there with Nike, and introduce the 2013 Philadelphia Eagles with some uniforms that have “swagger.”

Jeff my understanding is that you can’t just change your teams uniforms without at least a full seasons notice. With that said the Eagles filed the paperwork for new uniforms for the 2014-2015 season, so next year they will arrive and hopefully the new scheme does not include the feminine “midnight green” color…

Kelly green is what it needs to be. I haven’t heard anything regarding the Eagles front office notifying the NFL of the change. I just hope Jeffery Lurie makes the right move and goes back to it’s roots.

JH is back!!! JH is back!!! On this momentous occasion, the start of the Eagles training camp. I wanna begin by saying I have complete trust in Chip Kelly who will do things his way, a unique, unothodoxed style that the league has never seen before. I also have complete trust in Sam Hinkie but ill save that for another post. Get used to me again Fraudman Wrongman Paulman, Dcar aka Bobby Brown aka I just robbed ya momma, among many others. What a great year this will be! A tight QB competition at camp, and dont think for a second that Matt Barkley has no chance to win the job. Hes started at every level of his career from day one, he wont go down without a fight. Expect a tough battle there. Among many other positions I dont have the time to mention right now…

Welcome back JH.. and I agree, that this will be one of the most exciting
Summer Camps in years as an Eagles Fan.. I expect that there will be some very suprising Players cut, released or traded by mid-Camp that are just no fit Kelly’s Scheme in what he is trying to implement..
Some of the Veteran Players that have recently underperformed will have their chance to oimpress Kelly and his Coaching Staff to remain as solid Contributors, but I expect that there will be 3-4-5 Surprise moves that the Coaches and Kelly feel are in the best interest of the Club short-term and long-term to go in a different direction from …
Back on the Oregon Uniforms, this had very little to do with Chip Kelly,
The number of Uniforms and Flashy Designs were spear-headed by Phil Knight (Owner of NIke Sports) who is a avid contributor and alumni of the University of Oregon and helped with finiancing their climb to a NCAA Power in most Sports with updgraded Facilities, catchy Uniforms and innovative Coaches that ORegon hires. .. In fact, Phil Knight was a lettered-athlete for their Track & FIeld Programs when he was a Student at Oregon and ran DIstance Events …

Hillary CLinton will win the Democratice Nomination for President come 2016,but lose a close National Election to Jeb Bush who becomes the next POTUS…. This is my story, and I am sticking to it..
Bush wins a very close Electorial Vote decided by States in the Heartland

Just look at the lack of NJ Economic Pitcure.. Christie is not ready and has done very little to spur the NJ Economy which has remained very stagnant while most of the COuntry is back on the Rebound.. In the South, the Midwest, Mountain States, hell even New York & FLorida has seen Growth the last 2 Years .. New Jersey lagging way behind, too many people without the amount of Good Jobs to support it’s populace.. The Smart one and younger kids (College Educated) leave for College and don’t come back as the Brain Drain continues
Christie plays well to the Northeast Crowd, but not very enticing to the real America that makes up 75% of the Country

when it comes to NJ I hate to say but right now they are a very intelligent state when it comes to money. to hell with growth if you are mortgaging the future… in case you havent noticed NJ is running an extremely smart economical state plan, reducing debt, balancing budgets now and in the future and trimming the fat (not christies but the states…).

some things that are measurable aren’t always pretty are applauded… some states are like those types of people that can afford a Ferrari. and what do those people do? go buy a Ferrari, Lamborghini and a Bentley. Whereas other states (the minority of course) are like those types of people that can afford a Ferrari but purchase Mercedes instead…

Until NJ consolidates many of it’s Services of the 1,000’s of Townships and Towns, and limits their size of School Boards, Town Managers, City, Township & County Boards who duplicate, triplicate their basic functions, Every Town has a , Wtaer & Sewage Depts , Fire Delt, layers of Superintendants all on the Tax-Payers Dime which is why the Property Taxes are insane. They drove good businesses away with high Taxes and now put it on the backs on Residents
Go down the White Horse Pike for 5 Miles and you have 7 different Mayors, Town Councils, chiefs of Police, Fires, school Suoerintendents, etc, etc.. Eliminate the state governemt a jobs and crazy Pensions
Then maybe some real property tax relief will come, but who is going to want to lose their Job to effective consolidation.. No one does..so the same shit happens generation after generation
I don’t how or why a young Couple would want to put roots down and live the American dream there anymore to be honest..
I got out some 25 years ago and have probably saved over $200 K in Property Taxes alone let alone High Utilities, Auto insurance Premiums
And the like.. You guys go ahead and continue to put up with the daily rat race, for those days have long been over for me, I don’t want it, need it or have to be any part of it.. But that’s just me…

Ready to get the season started and after not liking the visor being selected as the next coach I have since come around on him. After the draft and watching him infuse this team with the spirit of competition and the way he unapologetically handles the media he seems to be a fit in ways I didn’t see coming. excited to see how he uses weapons we have had just sitting there doing nothing like Desean. Andy would not get creative with Desean besides an occasional end around, which teams saw coming a mile away. I am also keeping my expectations low because I know no matter how they start chances are they won’t win a ton of games. Things that have to happen this year:
A young Defensive leader needs to emerge(Cox, Kendricks, Graham, Boykin, Wolfe,) somebody has to be the real deal
A clear vision for what a Chip Kelly style offense needs to be successful
Young Vets like Shady, Maclin, need to leave the season believing they can win with Chip (everybody believes at 0W-0L)
Lane Johnson needs to at least show flashes of dominance but more importantly consistent football
Chip needs to have this team playing smart mistake free football at least 80% of the time
No bad blowouts loose by no more than 17 the whole year and have it happen only once or twice.
plan in place to remove anybody after the season who can’t get with the program.

I feel you but its a necessary evil at this point. other teams are ahead of us in the retooling/rebuilding phase. SF did win right away with Jimmy H at the helm but they also had years and years of good draft picks waiting to be guided in the right direction. Mike Singletary toughened them up and gave that team a backbone, Harbaugh can in with more of the same but with a better plan to fit the current roster and a vision moving forward. Here its different bc we haven’t been stock piling top talent on D like a Pat Willis, but its similar in the fact that we have some talent we weren’t getting the most out of like a Maclin or Desean. SF bulked up on the O-line with two 1st rd picks and it did wonders for them. hopefully with Peters coming back and adding Lane Johnson that will be like our 2 first rd selections. Hey maybe Vick can be like Alex Smith was year one of Harbaugh? no? yes? lol

I have a confession. I don’t want to be awful. I can deal with the Sixers being lousy for the future, the Phillies being terrible and selling and even the Flyers since they are the # 4 major sport in America. But football is different. I want to win. I want to be competitive. To suck in football every 7 days is just terrible. To be irrelevant for 4 months isn’t no fun. Hoping to get a top rated QB next year is no guarantee he will even be good. That’ could be a 3-4 year process in itself. Damn I hope we get lucky with Kelly and he knows what he is doing.

Let’s see Clowney play this season after his Knee Issue’s, It’s a long Season, even in College and it’s no given that he’s the Top Pick in 2014 Draft .. My early Guess is that QB Tedy Bridgewater of Louisville will be the #1 Overall Pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2014 Draft and is poised for a monster Season with Louisville returning many Starters from a pretty good last Season ..

What’s happened to your 2013 Impact Player of the Draft , Dion Jordan, of the Dolphins, has missed all OTA’s and Placed on PUP list to start Summer Camp and is way behind per Dolphin beat Writers and appears to make very little contribution to the Dolphins in 2013 outsite of a siittuational Pass-Rusher..
Some of us told you to stay away from the 1-Hit Wonder with an early 1st Round Selection due to Jordan’s Shoulder Surgery in January and some questions about his work ethic and drive , just like I did on your 2012 Can’t miss Prospect DT Dontari Poe as another 1-Hit Wonder..
C’Mon GMCliff, you need to pick-up your game a bit…

and you need to pay attention a little bit Paul. I have never said any player was can’t miss. I did, and still do like Poe, among others that I hit on that year…after all I hit on more than you did;14 out of 16 were starters including Poe.

But I didn’t say Dion Jordan was can’t miss. I called for Ziggy Ansah in the 1st round, THAT IS A FACT.

And to answer your post. Any college player can get hurt including Clowney, or Bridgewater, who I like.

Also, it is common knowledge that Dion Jordan, had shoulder surgery after the draft, so it makes sense that he wouldn’t be ready to make any type of impact. I don’t expect him to do anything, until he puts some weight on to compete in the NFL, IF HE TRULY IS A PLAYER.

Dion Jordan had Shoulder Surgery in Febuary (Shortly after Combine) and before the Draft in April and was a calculated risk by any Team Selecting him.. He was actually cleared today and participated in some light drills today with the Dolphins..
on Burfict, no one denied his Talent to Play, but his off-the field baggage took him off my list (like 31 Other Teams in the NFL) and I applaud him and the Bengals for having a plan to supervise him with Veteran Players and Coaches to help him adjust to the NFL, his DIet and weight training,etc,etc.. so good for him that he’s taking advantage of the Opportunity that the Bengals gave him, Now can he maintain his focus, drive and become one of the better Players at his Potetntial, only time will tell, but he has the tools and support system to succeed.. I would have stayed away from him myself, regardless of his Football Talent..

Steve Gilmore was playing real well for the BIlsl until his Injury and is a potential All-Pro CB in my opinion
Stephen HIll is a bust as I said he would be, a 1-Trick POnt WR who can only do 1 thing, and that’s run a fly/deep route down the sidelines, I never liked him as a Pro WR from Day 1
Devon Still was another Player I did not like and stated so from Day 1 and still stand by my assesment as a Rotational PLayer in the NFL..
Shea McClellan had a decent Rookie Season but was not utilized properly by the Bears.. He’s a Pass-Rushing OLB (in the mold of a Clay Matthews Jr) but the Bears had him playing a more conventional 3-4 OLB dropping back in pass-covereages which is not his Game..
Michaeal Floyd had his ups and downs and did improve as the Season went along and will give him a pass since he played on the Cardinals who QB play was terrible last Season

Maybe you are thinking of another Paul for this list of 2012 Draft Picks . I still like Gilmore, FLoyd & McClellin with Upside

No, he wasn’t Paul. Gilmore was benched for 2 games, before the injury, because he was constantly being burned on pass plays.

Michael Floyd was an outright bust, no highs at all…all lows

You also said that you would draft Devon before you would draft Poe, after I told you that he had serious injuries that would hinder him from reaching the lofty expectations of those who didn’t know what they were talking about. Poe did start, and Devon didn’t start, or play in a game

If you Recall I stated Fletcher Cox & Derek Wolfe from last YEasr Draft Class..
And Ziggy will not be a Starter for the Lions.. He is penciled in as back-up to Idonije that the Lions signed from the Bears in Free-Agnecy.. Ansah has out of this world Athleticism and Upside but will struggle with the nuances of PLaying Professional Football and has only played Football period for a few years and has lots to work on technique, strenth, scheme, etc,etc .. This by most observors who have followed him closely and by Lions beat reporters.. He will come in on Passing Downs and d o 1 Thing, get after the QB and it will take a Season to adjust to the complete game and repsonsibilities of being a Starting DE in the NFL.. It will happen, but not his Rookie Season

Defensive Players from this 2013 Draft who will make an impact thier Rookis Seasons are the Following

OLB Jarvis Jones – Steelers
Safety Eric Reid – 49ers
OLB Jaime Collins – Pats
DT Star Lotuleile – Panthers
DE Datone Jones – Packers
CB Xavier Rhodes – Vikings

and the big reason I say this is that they were all drafted by Teams with good Coaching and Schemes that fit their Natural Skilles as Players .. Plus these Teams all have needs at these Positions where they will play early and often

I think others like Jordan, Ansah,Mingo,Richardson,Floyd, Vacarro,Richardson, Millner & Hayden, Elam will have some moments but will be a work in progress to fit their Teams Schemes and get up to speed to make in impact in the NFL in their 1st Seasons .. All are good Players but it will take some time with them

Jason Jones is listed as Idonjecas the Starters for Lions DE
(Ansah to back up Indonje) to start Camp on Depth Chart
I do agree that he he has tremendous upside and will eventually be a full-time Player at DE, but it may be in his 2nd Season when he flourishes, similar to JPP when he was a Rookie, very raw and needs to kearn the complete scheme at the NFL Level and the tricks of the trade, using your hands, shoulders and arms to create leverage .. He’ll learn it, but it won’t occur out of the gate
I do agree that Safety Crypien will be a stud and make an immediate imoact for the Jags as will MLB
Jon Bostic for the Bears..
Manti Teo’ is another inevtou can add to the struggle list, he will be a starter for Chargers but will get overwhelmed by the OL of the NFL and the power and strength of NFL RB’s & TE he will attempt to cover and tackle..

I agree Dag football is way different, not being relevant at all just sucks. Plus with the amount of media that football gets. To have a team that sucks, is just not fun at all. The eagles already have haters like Mike Irvin, Merrill hodge, and Warren sapp. So when the Eagles suck these guys really go to town on our birds. Which makes for a long season in itself.

I am not sold on this OL as many Fans, the media and the Eagles seem to be, sure the gear beast Jason Peters back which is fantastic, but Questions at Center (Kelce’s Knee) and the Right side of OL
Will be new with Herrenans (who I think peaked 2-3 years ago) and unproven Roomie in Kane Johnson who I believe will make a very good RT but he still will have growing pains and has only played 2 years at OL
Then what do they have , Watkins, Kelly as their Top Back-Ups..
They will no doubt be better than last seasons debacle with D Bell, Reynolds & Watkins but to leap and say one of the best In the NFL is assanine and wishful thinking.. Hopefully new OL Coach will Coach these guys up to become an Average unit firstly, then build from there..

I only see 2-3 Teams as Buyers this Trade Deadline
The Detroit Tigers, the Yankees & maybe the Orioles
Teams that are definite Sellars will be the Cubs, White Sox,
The Brewers and possibky the Phils

Looking down the Road, the Mets have a preet young strong Starting Rotation with Harvey, Gee & Wheeler.. Who are all young and off to good Starts
To their Careers..
