Michael Vick Practices, But Eagles Don’t Name Starter For Sunday

NickFoles&MichaelVick2Eagles backup quarterback Nick Foles took the snaps with the first team today, but Michael Vick was able to throw the ball in 7-on-7 drills, but I think Foles is going to be the starter at quarterback on Sunday in Tampa.  Chip Kelly and company didn’t say which quarterback was starting because they want to make the Buccaneers work to prepare for both quarterbacks.

The Tampa Bay defense will be forced to prepare for Vick’s ability to run and Foles knack for getting the ball out of his hands so quickly.  Kelly isn’t going to do the Tampa Bay defensive coordinator a favor and tell him who is starting.  Still, I do think it’s going to be Foles.

“It’s important to be 100 percent,” Vick said. “This type of injury, if you do anything out of the ordinary, then you can prolong the recovery process. So I’m just trying to make sure I’m being smart about it and the training staff as well.”

I don’t think it would be a wise thing to have him pushing that hamstring in a game and running the risk of injuring it worse.  It looks like he’ll be able to go next week, so I think this week is on Foles.

“We’re never going to put [Mike] in harm’s way, and we’re always going to do what’s best for the team,” Kelly said on Wednesday. “The good thing is we still have three full days. We’ve got Thursday, Friday and Saturday of training to really get a full evaluation of where we are with this whole thing.”

Foles will have his work cut out for him, especially if they’re not running the ball well.  If they can get their running game going, it will open up things for them in the passing game.  Tampa Bay doesn’t have a good football team, but they do have a decent defense, especially in the secondary.

Derrelle Revis and company won’t be easy to score points against, so I’m expecting a low scoring game.  If Revis is able to take Jackson out of the game by himself, the Birds will really have trouble moving the football.

I’ve seen the coaches working with LeSean McCoy after practice on his route running.  That makes sense to me because he’s the best option to go to if they’re double-teaming Jackson.  None of the other receivers have been able to get open consistently when teams starting playing a man-to-man coverage.

The other player who can make a big difference in against man-to-man coverage is tight end Zach Ertz.  He’s already made a bunch of plays for the Birds, but they are still in the process of working him into the game plan more and more.

c’mon Garry Tampa doesn’t have a decent defense they have an unreal d. top 5 in the nfl. and while their secondary is great their run d is as good if not better , they are top 10 in pretty much all run d categories and are the only team in the nfl to not have given up a rushing td. they are sick. and it’s a bad matchup for Philly in all phases

don’t worry about that, even when Tampa’s about to win a dingbat like Lavonte David will commit the dumbest late hit violation in NFL history to forfeit a sure victory

This game is gonna be brutal.

A tough low scoring affair. The hope is the D can get turnovers ’cause Tampa’s O is awful – otherwise it’s gonna be a LONG day.

My opinion on the subject didn’t change just ’cause someone else wrote about it. I did see the game. I know what happened. Thanx.

This post was about Tampa Bay. Not Foles and his throw to DJax.

40 points for the birds this week. Defense plays well against the TB rookie giving our O time to march up and down the field and score.

No one is putting up 40 on Tampa Bay.

– Brady got 23
– Bress got 16

I beleive we can win this game, but it’s gonna be tough, low scoring, hard fought win.

Hello tsjohnson5,
I see you’re the only person on this site
with enough balls (pardon the pun) to post their picture.
I haven’t posted for a while because it was to much about hating and name calling rather than sports. All that being said real Eagle fans don’t care about QB controversy. We just want the Eagles to put the best team on the field. And we want to see our team to win on Sunday. So far the Eagles have shown themselves commendable. They shocked the world on Monday night and then were scorched in a three game eleven day schedule which ended in a 62 to 20 point massacre. They survived thru it and seem to have benifited from their growing pains; giving signs that we have not seen their best game yet. After all they’ve been thru they’re in first place!(tied) Chip Kelly is a proven winner. I believe he communicates a winning philosophy to the team which much more valuable than “tanking” for a high draft pick. I hope that Nick does well. He has done everything that’s been asked of him as a back-up QB and maintained the “right” attitude (as a team player) thru out. And I hope that Vick comes back 110 per cent. The “Old Pro” has shown that he still has the ability to take over a game and inspire the team to victory against adversity. I think I’ll be enjoying my Sunday football afternoons for a while

LOL

And what game did he inspire the team to victory against adversity” again? His one good half against Washinton?

Agreed though…we want the Eagles to put the best team on the field. Unfortunately, there are still a few misguided people out there who think that’s the short guy on the left of the picture.

Now he’s down to one good half of football. Nice.

Anywho…just so you remember..

There was a QB competition. One guy won. One guy lost. It wasn’t close. So there’s no question what the “best team on the field” looks like.

You and some of your brethren are the only ones who would rather lose with Foles than win with Vick. So as Deepthreat said, those of us who are Eagles fans want the team to WIN…all other details be damned.

Nope. I’ve been very clear.

He’s played 2 good halves of football this year.

As for the “competition”.

You’ve got Vick who played better in the preseason.

I’ve got Foles who has been better in the regular season both last year and this.

The “he was better in preseason” argument is losing validity pretty damn fast.

I want the team to win….but unlike you Vick lovers, I want them to win over a long period of time, not just this weekend.

I want the Birds to win for the next decade. I want them to go to the Superbowl and win it.

All you Vick fans want is for your hero to win week by week.

We all know that he is not good enough to win a SB. We all know he gets FED every time he meets a good D/D-coordinator.

Vick will never win a SB, neither with the Birds, nor with any other team that makes the mistake of signing him next year.

I would not rather lose with Foles, than win with Vick. That’s a stupid blanket statement made by Vickpologists who are quickly losing any ability to say anything else because the guy’s mediocre QB play (I’m being kind) does enough talking on its own.

The Eagles will never WIN anything with Vick. I want the Eagles to win long term.

If winning for a decade takes a couple weeks of a young QB struggling, that’s worth it.

Yea unfortunately there is no guarantee that the young QB will lead the organization to wins for a decade…that is assumption and hope…really the comment isn’t sound, there are what if’s of all types in that regard. First the Eagles have to get a better defense to win for decades…Thats what the Eagles had when they were winning for a decade plus…So much more to football than one player…you cats and your belief that a QB wins games by themselves disgust me

Winning the QB in preseason doesn’t bind the the guy as the starter for the whole season. Just the first game. If the season starter is injury prone and gets injured, plays mediocre, doesn’t win games then he loses the job. Do even watch the NFL? It happens every year for a couple of teams. Thats nothing new

Nothing funnier than moronic statements like this “rather lose with Foles than win with Vick”…as if we are doing any winning with vick. Was it 1-9? We are not winning games with Vick and based on the last game we actually won, there is no evidence to suggest that we cant win just as many games with Foles if not more.

I think you might mean substantive…that is an easy typo…no sweat…but I disagree with the thought if that was what you were trying to say. Plenty of other posts I have made about the team will dispute your statement, but you can believe what you want.

Simple question really, but you keep avoiding it, do you consider yourself an Eagles fan or just a Vick fan? From all that you have written and the way that you will endlessly defend MV, even when the discussion is not critical of him, leads many to believe that you are only interested in seeing MV play, and could care less about the Eagles team currently or in the future. It doesn’t really matter at all to anyone on here, but with the way that you have defended him so strongly and the way that you have avoided answering the question, makes me believe that the team takes a backseat to your MV, and watch out anyone who does not believe that he is the best thing for this team.

“I’m on board for the Eagles winning.

There is nothing for me to prove to you or anyone else as far as my fandom goes. You however should be asking everyone else that question…you know those who can’t seem to wrap their head around the fact their guy didn’t win the QB comp and refuse to get around the starter ’cause they despise him so much.

Yeah.

Alright Sherel….the more Eagles fans the better as far as I am concerned. I would agree that there are others that I could ask the same thing, but they have already been asked by others.

There is no doubt that MV won the pre-season competition that Kelly held regarding the starting QB position. No doubt. But that does not mean that since he won that competition, that he is imune to criticism for the rest of the year. MV has played at a high level overall….perfect, no, but no one is ever perfect….he has the team scoring at least 10 points more per game this year…but this does not mean that fans who are concerned with his history of injuries are wrong to question if MV is our longterm solution….I am sure that there are other things that I could list on both sides, but my point is that fans will always question a coach and team with regards to players and schemes. It is part of being a fan…it is the blindly loyal idology that I tend to find tough to take. We all have our favorite players, but even those players have faults…..hopefully those faults don’t hurt the team too much….or ultimately we find a new player who can do a better overall job for the team.

Thanx for the quote tsjohnson5. Don’t waste your time on the haters. You won’t change them. As Chip Kelly says “You need two QB’s to win in the NFL. What sense does it make to cheer for one and hope the other fails. If you understand the game you know it’s the ultimate team sport and that both have to succeed in order to win the game as was demonstrated last week. Vick took over the game when the Eagles were losing 7- 0 with a big run for a first down on 3rd and 19. He took the momentum away from the Giants and got the Eagles back into the game. When he left the Eagles were in command 19 – 7. Nick came in with a lead but the Eagles fell behind. Nick was successful in bringing the team back with three scoring drives ( including two touchdown passes) to bring the Eagles back into the lead. Both QBs were successful and the team won. Had either of them failed. The Eagles would have lost. But again none of that would have happened hadn’t the defense forced four turnovers. Not one quarterback but the team “ultimately ” won the game.

This game isn’t gonna be easy and if it is Ill admit I was wrong. We are going up against a top 5 defense with a damn good secondary. 2 years ago Revis held Desean to 2 catches..expect much of the same this week especially with #10 running his mouth. The Eagles are going to have to run the ball well and work the screens and TE’s. Big challenge here will be the Young QB not being lured in by the stud secondary and giving the ball away. Defensively it comes down to stopping Doug Martin and making Glennon beat you. Like I said rough game winnable so maybe 17-13 Eagles.

Drew Brees: 26/26 322 yards 1 TD 2INT (16 points)
Tom Brady: 25/26 225 2TD 1INT (23 points)

These future HOFer QBs (who also happen to have the best coaching minds in the game) struggled against the TB Defense. Whoever it is Vick/Foles I would be a very pleased if we get a win and our QB can come close to those stats/points.

Our starting offense put up a pathetic 13 against a bad D in Denver (Freaking Romo only trew for 550plus, had like 5 tds, and basically 50 points)…

So if we hit 24 points against the Bucs I would be ecstatic esp since that should be enough for a win.

Coach Kelly, OC Shurmur and the QB Coach need to step up their Game Plans.. They’ve been working with this Group now since the Spring and all during the Summer Camp, with 4 Pre-Season Games and now 6 Weeks into the Season so it’s time for Kelly to open his Playbook and get the TE’s more involved, have some plays for WR Danarius Johnson, some Reverses, mid-directions, bootlegs,etc,etc..
