It’s Almost A Definite That Nick Foles Will Start Against The Cowboys

NickFoles7I was surprised to hear what Michael Vick and offensive coordination Pat Shurmur were saying this afternoon.  I was sure the Eagles weren’t going to reveal which quarterback was starting on Sunday, but they let the cat of the bag today.  The Cowboys can stop preparing to face Vick and now focus on preparing for Nick Foles and the Birds.

“I’m just trying to work every day to get myself back into a position where I can come out here and run full-speed down the field,” Vick said today.

“When I try to burst, the knot is there. I think another week of rehab could put me in a position where I can start gaining some confidence and doing things that I normally do.”

I didn’t think Vick was going to play this week.  Hamstrings can fool you and it’s easy to come back too soon and end up prolonging the injury.  Add to that the way Foles played on Sunday and it wouldn’t make sense to rush Vick back to action.

The only reason you would ever even consider rushing a player back with an injured hamstring would be because the guy taking over for him was a major drop off.  That’s not the case here and Kelly has made it perfectly clear that the team didn’t lose anything by Vick getting hurt because of the way Foles has played.

Still everybody is wondering who is going to be the starting quarterback when Vick gets healthy.

“Coach Kelly will address those questions about who the quarterback is when both of them are healthy. At this point, we’ll go with Nick. When Mike’s healthy, we’ll have that discussion,” Shurmur said this morning.

I think Foles is gradually winning the confidence of Chip Kelly and the Eagles coaching staff.  It would have been nearly impossible for him to play better than he did on Sunday against the Buccaneers.  If Foles continues to play well, I think he’s going to take the starting job from Vick.

If you look at the age of the quarterbacks, Foles, who is in only his second-year in the NFL has a chance to be the quarterback of the future.  Vick on the other hand at 34, has no chance to be the Eagles quarterback of the future.  If they’re both playing well and close to the same level, it makes sense to go with the younger player, Foles.  I think we’re headed in that direction if he continues to perform at this level.

I have a feeling the ‘hammy’ s going to linger for a while. Like 11 more games.

Time to start to see what the future can be with foles

Let’s be real ..foles played exceptionally well against a very solid Tampa defense, that showed its mettle vs Brady and Drew breese.Vick is and was all along,a stop gap ,he has played well and rehabilitating his hammy .is now a means of lessening the blow,to his role on this team.having. Beaten teams with one combined win in the Giants,Tampa and Washington ,doesn’t evoke a great deal of confidence in the defense.im hoping we don’t get blinded by the results .Our defense as previously mentioned is light years behind the offense ,no matter who takes the snaps..With a limping Cowgirls squad and a Disinterested Giant team on deck lets focus on winning a stinking home game ..Let’s make the Linc a place where teams don’t want to come play …

G please address the defensive side of the ball ..I appreciate your calling out guys and schemes …I trust foles ,I don’t trust the defense..it’s halfway point ,let’s see a cohesive unit ,offense ,defense ,special teams ..seize the NFC east ,protect the home turf .

I agree desert…I have real questions about our ability to cover Whitten…we have had trouble covering TE’s for years now, and I don’t see it getting better. Even though they will be without Murray, we also have a history of letting backups have big days. This will be a big test for the defense, and we will know a lot more about this team once it is over.

This should be the game that the fans take over the Linc and make it a home game can you believe the eagles have not won at Home in over a year, well that changes this Sunday.

There is hope. Now if our Defense can show up with a full all out game we can get it done.

I hope the guys are getting all that 3-4 concept fully clarified. I see that while the talent is not improving the guys are playing better in the scheme. I hope it is enough.

Regal, I don’t think the defense is as putrid as I once thought

There is at least an attitude, great effort, Bradley fletcher has been playing very well, Boykin shows promise, fletcher cox has been steadily improving, for what they lack in talent there is no quit and they are a far better unit than last years squad, and they are improving

The improved play at qb with foles is also a major reason for the improved defensive play, with sustsined drives, red zone efficency, the offense scores and keeps the defense off the field, rested

This will be great when the birds put a whoop ass on them cowboys, team effort

Let’s go birds, kill them stinkin cowboys and their fraud fans

The birds lost the time of possesion battle for the first time this season in a win.

The idea that foles sustains drives is a HUGE joke and this is coming from a guy who hopes foles lights it up for years to come.

The eagles scored 30 points AGAIN this week. Hey have done so over and over again this season with both foles and vick.

There is no doubt that foles has strengthened his deep pass and is getti g rid of the ball quick. But… there is no need to slam vick to praise foles. Both are playing at a highevel.

Guys…. try and keep it real. Or.. at the very least… cherry pick stats that help you. Dont just say things that u wish were true.

Something to consider: the Dallas defense is 30th against the pass, chip Kelly should develop an offensive game plan to exploit this, if foles repeats it’s doomsday for the former doomsday defense , add in choke artist Romo, big day for the birds. But I think this one will be close

Big Jake not a bragger, a rather humble fellow, but awhile back I predicted the ascension of Nick Foles, just like my contemporary gmcliff did

I was also the only poster to.accurately predict that the eagles offense would put up more than 30 against a very stout Tampa defense

I think most of this already knew this as did the Cowboys,
It was reported last week that Vick’s Hamstring was more severe than originally though so no real surprise to anyone that Vickbwill Start Sunday versus the Cowboys who will be without RB Murray and DE Ware who are both nursing injuries as well..
It may be 2-3 Weeks longer before Vixk is close to 100%
And as long as Fokes Plays well, he will be the Starter
On a side note, Safety Nate Allen has played mili h better since the Chiefs game.. Has he gotten burned and caught out of position or taken some bad angles on Tackles, site he had as every other Defender in the NFL
Does.. I saw Zgholdston & Matk Barron make poor Pkays for the Bucs last week.. I saw Eric Thomas of Seahawks get burnt a couple times the last
Few games, I’ve seen Matt Elam of the Ravens get toasted on a deep bal and get run over by Packers RB Lacey
I saw Safety K Viccaro blow a couple of coverages against the Patriots..
I tell you a Safety who is under the radar and having a kick ass year is Mike Mitchell of the Panrhers.. Hitting and Tackling and has a few Int’s..
A great pick up for the Panthers who was on no ones radar last Off-Season
Eric Berry is having a nice Season too as is Deteoits Lions Safety Quin Glover
Who is paired with Louis Delmas to give the Lions a pretty good Safety Tandem

The major problem for Foles is that even if he crushes the Cowgirls Haters are going to state that he beat a team missing their Franchise RB and their all everything DE/OLB and likely DT.

I love how the same peeps that were chirping about how good Tampa’s D was and how we would see how foles was terrible Bobby Hoying now point to Tampa not having won a game all year and being trash.

that would be a flawed argument and one brought up only by people who don’t know and understand the nfl…. injuries are more a part of this league than any other. Its not like playing the heat without lebron and wade. its the nfl- strap it up and play whoever shows up in a different color jersey

I also think Foles should start, of course it make total sense. What would be funny though would be for this about Vicks hamstring just be a big joke on the Cowboys and come game time Vick runs out and takes the first series. That said its not going to happen I just like to pull fast ones on the hated Dallas team.

The Foles switch was going to happen one way or another…I would like to hear more on the defense and why Connor Barwin the vaunted free agent defender that was supposed to be all over the field wreaking havoc is looking like a total bust. This is going to be the week Barwin is going to have to start to earn his pay since he hasn’t already. If the Eagles secondary can make life a little difficult for Romo and Dez Bryant Whitten vs. Barwin is going to be the match-up to watch.

gmc, he has been our best LB. What are you watching. He’s in coverage most downs, because none of the others are capable in coverage. You are still wrong on that one bruh! LOL!

Connor Barwin a bust?
out of all the off season moves you chose to rip Connor Barwin? He is outplaying Cary Williams, Bradley Fletcher, Patrick Chung, and Issac Sopoaga and you choose to rip Barwin. Additionally there are 4 LB on the field and Connor Barwin is head and shoulders better than the more expensive Trent Cole and Demeco Ryans.

Certainly not near as productive as most of us thought he would be. But frankly no one has really been in this defense. Not excusing him, but I was expecting more from a lot of these players and I am wondering if the scheme is killing them.

Watch for Cowboys WR Terrance Williams who has been a big target of Romo the last few weeks and is playing with a lot of confidence..

I hoping the birds defense shows some improvement this week against a good Dallas offense. I was thinking preseason it would take 7-8 games to gel but Dallas is a stern test in week 7. More Vinnie Curry on 3rd downs, maybe try another OLB instead of Trent. At this point I dont think it will matter. I dont know for the Life of me how they are gonna stop Dez Miles and Whitten….

Can that Streeter Kid on the Bills practice squad play at all?? 6’5 WR with speed???

When I say at all I mean like as much as BJ Cunningham, Iggy, you know back end of roster guys.
