Notes From The Sixers’ 123-117 Win Over Houston

jamesandersonThe Philadelphia 76ers snapped their two-game losing streak on Wednesday night, taking down the Houston Rockets 123-117 in overtime. Their record improves to 5-4.

  • Michael Carter-Williams missed this game with a foot injury, giving Tony Wroten a start at point guard. Wroten responded with a triple-double, scoring 18 points with 10 rebounds and 11 assists.
  • However, Wroten’s triple-double wasn’t even the most impressive performance tonight. Shooting guard James Anderson dropped a ridiculous 36 points, shooting 12-16 and knocking down six three-pointers. Anderson hit a three-ball with just over six seconds remaining to force overtime.
  • Evan Turner hit the 20-point mark again, finishing with 23.
  • Thaddeus Young scored 15 with eight rebounds.
  • Spencer Hawes chipped in 18.
  • The Sixers led by three at the half, but were outscored 33-20 in the third quarter. They fought back to outscore the Rockets by 10 in the fourth to force overtime.
  • Houston star James Harden was given the night off to rest his foot.

Final Thoughts

This was a night for the bizarre.

The Sixers have already proven that they’re better than we expected them to be, but on a night where they would be without Michael Carter-Williams facing Dwight Howard and a team that many expect to be an NBA contender in the West, you’d figure this game was probably a loss.

Stand up and raise your hand if you had any idea that we’d see a Tony Wroten triple-double or watch James Anderson drop 36.

NBA teams are going to have to start respecting the Sixers. Already in the first three weeks of the season, we’ve seen teams disrespect the Sixers by resting their star players against them, only to get burned. Miami gave Dwayne Wade a night off and lost. Now Houston tried to get by without their leading scorer James Harden and lost as well.

Its a credit to the job that Brett Brown has done so far that he’s got this young team believing in themselves and coming out to fight every night.

I agree Denny. This team is much much better then the critics realized. I love it. I want them to keep getting used to winning. Just keep winning. Yes they will still get good draft picks. As we saw last night (and like I mentioned a week ago) this draft is deep. Im talking 1-20 guys deep. We saw four teams last night in Duke,Kansas,Mich state and Kentucky. All four teams will have players in the lottery in next years draft. And the Sixers will have a chance to draft some of these guys. Me, like everyone else would like Wiggins or Parker or Randle among some of these other talented guys. But, I don’t want the Sixers to sacrifice them instituting a winning culture just for losing or tanking. Idc whose coming out next year they should keep winning so these young players can become accustomed to winning and you cant root against the effort you see out there on the court, and what this coaching staff is doing… I love my team!

Together We Build! ShowYaLuv Philadelphia!!! ShowYaLuv!!!

You would love it, because you are happy with being a fraudulent team, that barely makes the playoffs, or misses, but competes! Let me say this to you again, dum@$$, just in case it didn’t get through your thick, retarded mind. “This team has zero chance of doing anything of significance, let alone going anywhere in the playoffs if they miraculously do make it!” “In today’s NBA, under this CBA, you CANNOT consistently compete with the big boys, unless you draft a FRANCHISE CHANGING/ STUD player, that can be a Superstar!” “We have to lose as many games as we can, to get in the top 3!” Without that, NO GOOD FREE AGENTS, will come to this garbage roster. BTW, this draft IS DEEP with 20 good players, let alone franchise changing guys! If we don’t get the studs in Parker, Wiggens, Randle, nor possibly Gordon, everybody else are toss ups, ???? are not franchise changers, & will set this team back, another 30 years, you idiot! This is the same garbage you pulled 2 years ago, when we were making the fraudulent playoff run, with your HERO’S Stinkadala & ET, when we beat an undermanned Chicago roster, without Rose, Noah, & an injured Deng & Gibson playing! GTFO!!!!

Jh you my man and I usually agree with you, but dude no they need to tank. The first three picks are far superior from the rest. Randle is a fucking beast, man child if I ever saw one. Parker is ridiculous and wiggins is good also.

pdiddy, your my guy too but read this stat bro. In the past 23 draft lotteries, only one team with the worst record ended up with the No. 1 overall pick (Orlando Magic). In those 23 years, six teams with the worst record dropped all the way to No. 4. Do you really wanna take that chance? One team in 23 years???.. This means you DO NOT want to tank, you DO NOT want to lose out. I’m trying to tell you, the league (powers that be) will not award the tanking team a chance at a franchise changing sure fire player. Tanking isn’t a option. And Hinkie uses analytics so im positive hes aware of it.. No tanking no losing for ping pong balls..

The point is, your stupid, dum@$$ said that the draft is 20 deep! You wrong again as usual, & don’t know WTF you’re talking about. Because you are a stupid, imbecile, who lives in the world of delusions. Other than Parker, Wiggins, Randle & Gordon, the rest of the draft is a toss up, with a lot of ????? You might be happy with always being a mediocre, middle of the league, black hole team, with no future of winning a Championship, but true knowledgeable fans aren’t! Without a true stud star, like the 4 I mentioned, are no question gonna be, it will be the same old, same old!
If you were a top line FA, would you come here, with this current roster, & a 2 draft picks from say, 10-20, or would you come here with say either one of the 4 I said, another top 10-15 pick, another 1st rounder for ET, along with MCW, & Noel? Clearly, you are the only one entertained by this. This doing nothing but hindering our future, not helping. None of these guys are going to be on this team next year, nor for the future nucleus!

after watching 8 games maybe Doug Collins and Jrue Holliday were holding back Evan Turner. Evan Turner is playing all star basketball right now and at the very least non bust basketball.

E0S- They’re playing too good, Im almost positive Hinkie didn’t expect this. So they’re gonna have to trade possibly Evan Turner, Spencer Hawes and or Thad Young. Those are the guys with value on this team, and I think they will trade those guys esp since theyre winning so much. Hinkie may have to step in soon and put a stop to this bc like I said im sure they wanna win games but maybe around the 20-27 game range, nomore than that.. ET may be an allstar this year, heck maybe Spencer Hawes too. Their play may raise the asking price..

76ers are playing well and as a Team, they are fun to watch and have a bright Future.. There will be Good PLayers in next Years Draft which I will worry about next Season, meanwhile, let’s enjoy these Young Players, Good Coaching and High Energy that brings some excitement back to Philly Basketball
My Hat is off GM Hinkle, Coach Brown for a complete Culter Change and rebuild around this Franchise that has Struggled in recent Years and it’s good to see still young Players like Turner & Young play up to their potential and be good NBA Players.. Next Off-Season there are a lot of Good Free-Agents and Rookie PLayers from the Draft so the 76ers are poised to be in good Position to Draft 2 additional talented Young Players and have the $$$ to dd another 2 Quality Veteran Players to their Roster… Hinkle has them on the right Track..

Its sad when you read and hear so called Sixers fans wanting them to tank and lose out. It makes no sense. If you tank, the league will not grant you with the 1st overall pick or even a top 3. In the past 23 draft lotteries, only one team with the worst record ended up with the No. 1 overall pick (Orlando Magic). In those 23 years, six teams with the worst record dropped all the way to No. 4. Some eye opening stats for you unknowledgeable basketball guys who want them to lose out. Do your research, analytics plays a huge part… And anyway like I mentioned before, this draft lottery will totally be fooled around with by the powers that be because of all the great prospects coming out. This means $$$ for the NBA. They want major markets and teams of past success to return to greatness. Like the Sixers, Lakers(Kobe will be leaving soon they wanna draft his replacement) Pistons(How great it would be for this team and city whose in desperate for a winner again), Jazz, Celtics etc.. The league needs and wants these teams to be great again. You will see, this draft is the best since the Lebron,Wade,Bosh,Melo draft. This may be a bit premature but I have the feeling that this draft is deeper.. Remember these names.. of course you have the top 3, then you have more…
Dante Exum PG/SG, Aaron Gordon PF, Marcus Smart PG, Joel Embiid C, Andrew Harrison PG, Montrezl Harrell PF/C, Glenn Robinson SF, Wayne Selden SG, Willie Cauley-Stein C, Gary Harris SG, Dario Saric SF, Doug McDermott PF, Adreian Payne PF/C, Isaiah Austin C, Mitch McGary C, James Young SF, Jahii Carson PG, Spencer Dinwiddie SG, James McAdoo PF, T.J. Warren SF, P.J. Hairston SG, Perry Ellis F.. among others! Deep deep draft..

Remember these name, watch them this year during the college season. Youtube them too. Possibly 2 maybe 3 of these guys will be on the Sixers roster next year. Not to mention the top 3 that we may have a chance at drafting.. Exciting times ahead. But for now, lets enjoy the ride were on with this Sixers team.. They are shocking the world. They’re 3rd in the conference.. Unbelievable.. Just ShowYaLuv man..

You just don’t get it! Other than the 4 I’ve mentioned & maybe Gordon & Selden, who else on that list, are good-great players, or fits for our team? If we’re keeping MCW, Exum, Smart, Harrison, don’t fit. Embiid, Harrell, Cauley-Stein have zero offensive ability, & the rest are just guys. Do you even watch NCAA basketball, or do you just read future mock drafts, & profiles? You are a clueless @$$clown. You have zero eye for ability, nor knowledge of the game. So keep loving being a forever middling franchise, because with your thinking, & decisions, that’s exactly what we will be for the next 20 years.

Culture of winning my @$$! Who on this team is it going to matter too after this season, if we keep winning meaningless games, with no future of seriously competing for the playoffs?!? Other than MCW, & Noel, who on this team is going to be on this roster next year, that it really f^#@ing matters?!? Tell me? ET, Hawes, are gone. Thad, if he keeps playing the way he is, is going to be moved too. The rest of the roster are full of journeymen, role players, & place holders! Plenty of solid-good role players are available in this draft. The only franchise changers are, Parker, Wiggens, Randle, & possibly Gordon, & Selden.

Another thing, Lil Bron-Bron bunghole, if we finish the year out of the top ten, we lose our 1st rounder to the Heat. So your thinking is f^#@ing stupid!

You name call to accomplish what? It doesn’t do anything but make you look like a fool. Stats don’t lie genius in 23 years only 1 team that had the worst record recieved the 1st overall pick. Read it and weep. You wont get what you want bc the Sixers are smarter than you are. They know that tanking gets you nowhere just like anyone with a brain knows. Tanking can get you the 4th all the way down and out of the top 10. Stop thinking with your heart and use your brain, if you have one up there. A young team doesn’t need to experience losing. They need to get their feet wet, win games and gain confidence. If you read my posts you’d see that I said they’ll have to trade their top 3 guys if they wanna stop winning. Their veterans with the most value. Your saying everything i already said.. Btw, guys like James Anderson and Tony Wrotten aren’t slouches, they were young and stuck on the bench behind star players. Research those guys history, theyre going to fit right in moving forward. The first rounder that the Sixers gave to the heat is a top 14 protected genius! I know you didnt know that because you dont know much you just come on here to rant like a barbarian, so no they dont have anything to worry about there either bc theyre not making the playoffs. Have your facts straight before you come at me. Also, I watch college ball all the time that’s why im able to name all of these players, some that play overseas as well. Maybe you should look to expand your knowledge of the college game and basketball in general instead of coming on here like the ghetto clown that you are, cursing and sounding like a joke..

I have been watching basketball for 40 years son, so you don’t know $#!T. Have my facts straight???? You are the biggest know nothing imbecile on here. What don’t you understand? If we finish out of the top ten draft picks, we lose our pick to Miami. BTW, both of the picks we have, are top 5 protected, not top 3! So you are wrong yet again! You learn! You research! You go research, & get some comprehension skills!Give me a f^#@ng break!

I meant top 5 not 3 genius. Remember the Heat’s 1st rounder is lottery protected all together for 3 season. So Moultrie was drafted in 2012 so this year and next and possibly 1 more year the pick will still be lottery protected (Top 14 protected). 40 years of fraud fandom huh.. Bravo brokeman bravo..

Remember the picks we will have too. The Pelicans pick from the Jrue Holiday trade is a top 3 protected which means that if that pick ends up falling into the top 3, the Pelicans retain that pick. But if it falls out of the top 3, it belongs to the Sixers. And most likely it will fall out of the top 3 because the Pelicans will make or almost make the playoffs.. so they’ll have two picks in the top 10 in one of the deepest drafts since the Lebron,Wade,Bosh,Melo draft.. We win

How thw f^#@ do you get 2 top ten picks, if we keep winning, & Pelicans make the playoffs? Are you that irrational, & stupid. If they make the playoffs, they’ll be in the bottom mid-teens, & if we finish out of the top ten by winning too much, we lose our pick to Miami! WTF don’t you understand???? Absolute dumbass!

The Philadelphia 76ers with the 8th Overall Pick of the 2014 NBA Draft Select
Power Forward Daria Saric from Croatia (6-10″ 233lbs)
With the 11th Pick of the 2014 NBA Draft the 76ers Select Shooting Forward James Young (6-7 200lbs) from the University of Kentucky

Saric is a very good International Player with a HIgh Basketball IQ, can shoot, run the floor and pass very well that Hinkle & Brown are familiar with.. Play him with the Defensive-minded Noel on the Front Line and the 76ers would be very Young, Athletic and have a tandem to build and play for Years together… Mix in Veterans Thadd Young, Hawes, a Free-Agent Big Man, Draft Pick James Young and then add a back-up Point Guard and the Franchise is well on their way to compete for Playoffs by 2015
This is how I see the 76ers Drafting next June in the 1st Round.. .
