Notes From The Sixers’ 108-98 Loss To Indiana

mcw44The Philadelphia 76ers lost their match with the Indiana Pacers on Saturday night 108-98. Their record drops to 6-9.

  • Michael Carter-Williams led the Sixers with 29 points tonight. MCW also had six boards and seven steals. The guy does a tremendous job at creating turnovers.
  • The Sixers were without Thad Young once again, but also missed Spencer Hawes who did not dress with soreness in his left knee. Daniel Orton got the call for Young once again, and LaVoy Allen picked up Hawes’ minutes.
  • Allen and Orton did a decent job on the glass, combining for 19 rebounds, but contributed only 14 points.
  • James Anderson scored just 13 points on 18 shots, and went 1-10 from three-point range.
  • Evan Turner scored 21 points, but was pretty brutal in terms of efficiency. He took 26 shots, and hit only eight of them.
  • The Sixers as a team shot just 4-25 from three.

Final Thoughts

Despite being brutally shorthanded, the Sixers gave the 12-1 Pacers a pretty good game.

They played the Pacers pretty evenly through three and a half quarters, and held the lead with 6:18 to go in the fourth.

However, the talent of the Indiana starting five won out in the end. Games like this make you wonder what Brett Brown can do when he’ll eventually have a roster that is talented and deep.

If the Sixers had Thad Spencer and Wrotten tonight they would have won this game. But all & all what an entertaining game from beginning to end. The Sixers had a bunch of no name guys out there, some even recent d leaguers playing some tough basketball against the team leading the east. Paul George was held under control & the Sixers did a good job there but Hibbert go off inside with the Sixers having no post defender in the paint. But what fight and grit shown by the Sixers. MCW continues to make his case for rookie of the year and possibly even should be considered for the allstar team as a reserve because hes playing some great basketball. I keep having to tell myself that hes a rookie. And he was picked 11th ovr btw, not top 3 top 5 top 10, he was picked 11th.. The success that your seeing is a surprise for many fans but not for the Sixers organization. When you bring a guy like Brent Brown on board with his credentials/history of player development in the states and overseas. His experience on a great spurs team as the assistant head coach to the best coach in the league Gregg Popovich ( Like I told you guys there trying to build this Sixers team like that of the Spurs but more athleticly based team at every position)this is what your gonna get. So this team is a testament to great player development. Its not something we’re used to seeing, its very unorthodoxed & we’ve only seen one organization do this and thats the Spurs. They take no names and make them household names. So yes this team seems to be overachieving but they dont think so. Like tonight at the half coach Brown said ” this team (sixers) think they can beat the pacers” and even missing 2 starters and a 6th man they almost did beat them.. I enjoy watching this team play & win and with the extensive research/analytics & great player development I know they will draft some good players and will acquire good players in the offseason..

SN, I’m not sure they will trade Hawes. I can see Turner or Thad being goners but Hawes is a rare commodity. A 7 footer with a shot and versatility, can shoot the 3 and has a medium range shot. He can play both the PF and C positions. I don’t see him being traded, too valueable moving forward, but i could be wrong. I know the asking price will be high since hes playing at a allstar level..

2014 starting lineup:

C – Nerlins Noel
PF – Spencer Hawes
SF – Jabari Parker
PG – Michael Carter-Williams
SG – Tony Wroten / Dante Exum?

Ok this is all based on the dream that Sixers nab a top 3 pick in the draft and then they grab the Pelicans 6th pick and somehow Exum falls to them.

Either way if the sixers just get Jabari Parker this team is a contender for the next 10 seasons. Just need to keep sitting Hawes this season lol

That said, w/ the way Evan Turner is playing…

C -Nerlins Noel
PF – Julius Randle
SF – Evan Turner
PG – Michael Carter-Williams
SG – Dante Exum

Question becomes is Hawes > Julius Randle or is
Jabari Parker > Evan Turner.

They ain’t getting parker, unless they get a top 3 pick. If they keep winning games, & fall out of the top 12, they lose their pick to Miami.

BTW, both Hawes & ET need to go! Both soft frauds, that are now playing well, all of a sudden, in a contract year. Where they the last 3-4 years? See ya, wouldn’t want to be ya!

Your not too far off with this trade. The Bulls will look to add a scorer here since Rose is done for the year (From the looks of it Rose should have sat a month before coming back, came back too soon off a nasty acl injury) Turner would fit because of his versatility. He can play 3 positions both guard spots and small forward. Very possible Turner gets dealt to the Bulls sooner rather than later..

Jon you again are proving you are an imbecile and once again writing shit you made up out of thin air with no facts…

Let me correct it for you

1. Rose isnt done for the year and depending on the surgery he could be back in 1 month if all goes well and max 4 months if it doesnt go well.

2. this injury has nothing to do with the other injury, the injuries arent even to the same leg.

3. he didnt come back to soon from his acl injury. multiple doctors cleared him well before the playoffs last year (8 months ago!!!!!!) and he pulled a bitch move and didnt suit up. if he was on the sixers I and we would be blasting him for not coming back last year. total bitch move by rose

4. youre a moron

no u didnt say it was the same acl but you implied it by saying he came back too soon which is purely idiotic b/c the new injury has nothing to do with the old one.

and prior to 11:23 this morning Rose was coming back this year, today it was determined he elected to have a different surgery than the surgery which was necessary. so when you wrote it you were wrong.

Zukny—The 2nd lineup seems more realistic. This Sixers team is very well coached so its gonna be tough to tell them “tank” especially with such a weak atlantic division. Teams have really started out bad. But with that said, I still think the Sixers lose enough to end up in the top 3-5 and they’ll land a stud. The Pelicans will lose enough, theyre still a very young inexperienced team so the sixers will get a good pick there. Lets just hope the pelicans dont lose too much that they’ll end up in the top 5 then the sixers lose that pick.. we need them to get us a pick between 6-10. This is such a deep draft. They have a Center who they’re comparing to Hakeem Olajuwon, Kansas center Joel Embiid, hes another potential future superstar. Has all the moves offensively, can score in a variety of ways. He just has to improve defensively and he seems to be each game. Hes another guy id look at if he falls to around 6-10..

Cripes you are projecting on this guy. Yes I like his size, but he has played 4 college games and not even a ton of minutes in those games. How can you possibly say that he has all of the moves with such a little sample size? He has also only been playing basketball since 2011. This guy is a project center with great size, but lets not compare him to one of the best centers to every play yet. Thanks.

Bugs I’m telling you that’s what some have compared him to, not me. I said they’re comparing him to Hakeem bc of his height, length and ability to score inside in a variety of ways. This isn’t made up, what benefit do I have from making it up? Everyone said MCW was a project also remember? Does he still look like a project to you? I’ll answer that for you, NO!

November 25, 2013 11:28 am

Yeah, you know who said it? Bill Self his coach, so maybe a little biased there.

You mean MCW who played more than 4 games in college and 4 years in HS? That dude has been playing bball his whole life, so I think that he has a little bit less of a learning curve of a guy who played soccer and volleyball for most of his life.

And I believe the biggest complaints was whether or not MCW could shoot the basketball, considering the fact that he averaged 7 assists and almost 3 steals per game. And since he has played extremely well, but still shot 40% from the field, I would say that he still has some work to do.

No, the word project was used in regards to MCW all throughout the draft and also from fans on here after the Sixers picked him. A project.. haha 16.1ppg 5.7reb 7.8as 3.0 steals is a project? Ok. Some guys are just better in the nba then they were in college. Embiid has that chance to be. I know he hasnt played bball for that long but he surely doesn’t look like a project i ll tell you that.. Add him to the list of potential superstars in next years draft..

Bugs, check the college stats, their are guys every year that avg 7as 3 steals and dont even make the nba. They play overseas or are relegated to the d league. So you cant go crazy over college stats. Also, Andrew Wiggins stats and Marcus Smarts arent that far off from each other but wouldnt you still take Wiggins over Smart? So it could go either way, sometimes it comes down to the eye test..

bugsyhawk

November 25, 2013 12:16 pm

I agree and disagree with you on stats overall. A guy has to produce especially in the tough games, so overall stats are important, but in game stats against good competition are even more important. That is my point with the KU center. There is no eye test for him, because he hasn’t played anybody yet. All the moves in the world can’t for nothing unless you can do that in an actual game.

In the end it is all guessing because the majority of these guys are not good basketball players anymore. They are really great athletes who play basketball that all could have used a couple extra years in college at a high level of competition.

13-14. 14-15. 15-16
Thaddeus Young $8,600,000 $9,160,870 $9,721,740 $0

Evan Turner $6,679,866. $8,717,225. $0 $0

Taj Gibson $7,550,000 $8,000,000 $8,500,000 $8,950,000

Luol Deng $14,312,125 $0 $0 $0

The better trade would involve Luol Deng whose on the last year of his deal at 14m. I could see the Sixers trading ET and Thad for Loul Deng and a 1st rounder for next years draft. The numbers match up pretty well with the addition of some possible cash considerations. But, the more I think the less I think theyd give the bulls both guys.. but anything is possible..

No way Hinkie lets this Sixers team win too many games..He will trade away Turner, Hawes, Thad etc to ensure us a shot at one of those top picks..

The goal of the Sixers (just like any other sports team) is to win a championship. Nothing else matters. So you take the necessary steps needed to reach that goal based upon the environment you are in. At the end of the day, losing a ton of games this year is a necessary step for the Sixers in todays NBA. I think Hinkie will make sure that happens before the season is all over.

If ET was in the long term plans then they would have extended him. I actually do think that Chicago will be interested like Jon mentioned, but I want no parts of Taj Gibson. He does nothing for me.

Chicago have a previous first round pick from a few years ago ( the Nick Vuc draft) stashed in Spain, a Power forward who will play in 2014-15 season. They don’t need or want a Thad Young. The bulls also own the bobcats first round pick ( top 10 protected ) — Chicago permanently has Carlos Boozer on the trading block for 2 years now. He will probably amnestied like Elton Brand was in Philly in the off season.

I don’t know what team would be willing to take on Thads contract. The more I look at it. But what Thad and the Sixers have in their favor is youth. With that said they may be stuck with Thad. ET is probably the goner, Hawes you keep..

I really like the Duke player — Parker reminds me of Danny Granger.
Kansas PF Julius Randle reminds me of Zack Randolf
Oklahoma State guard Smart reminds me of Pelican G Eric Gordon.
Andrew Wiggins is incomparable. He slashs the paint from the wing in 2 or 3 dribbles. He doesn’t play around with the ball or need to start from the top of the key. He can fit in with any player in the league if he can make plays from the side like that so efficiently in the NBA.

Parker, & Randle will be the best players out of this draft. Bank on it e0! Wiggins is all hype, by the ESPN spin machine, is too skinny, & one dimensional. I also love Gordon, & Selden.
