My Perspective Of This Eagles-Cowboys Game

TrentCole4No one could have predicted this before the season. In what seems to be story only Hollywood could come up with, the Eagles will be playing their biggest game in years against their hated rival, the Dallas Cowboys. Another chapter in the storied rivalry will be written this Sunday night

  • With Tony Romo getting all the attention as the big injury for the Cowboys, it is kind of surprising there isn’t a whole lot of publicity Inside Linebacker Sean Lee. He has a serious neck injury and is likely out for the season (assuming the Cowboys play on.) Lee is the best Defensive player on the Cowboys (that’s not saying a whole lot considering they have the worst Defense in the league.), and is one of the few players who fits Monte Kiffin’s Tampa 2. His loss opens the middle of the field for the Eagles. I expect Zach Ertz and Brent Celek to get a lot of looks over the middle. Heck, maybe even James Casey will have the breakout game we have waited for since he signed here.
  • The Dallas Defense as I mentioned before is terrible. They rank near the bottom of every statistical defensive category and are banged up (No Sean Lee.) Hell, they let Matt Flynn and Josh McCown throw numerous touchdowns on them. The Eagles have NO excuse to not score at least 30 points.
  • Nick Foles has done well so far, but this will be his true test. All Quarterbacks are judged by how well they play in big games (see Romo, Tony), and none come bigger than this one. In his first Eagles-Dallas game this season, Foles look tense, as he missed several open targets and could not get settled in the pocket. That can be chalked up to inexperience, as he was making his second start of the season at that point. With over half a dozen more starts under his belt, Foles is much more accurate and has better chemistry with guys like Desean Jackson and Brent Celek.
  • Lesean McCoy only needs less than 40 yards to own the Eagles single season rushing record. By the time his career ends, don’t be surprised if he holds almost all of them. McCoy is the team’s MVP this season, and his case would be even stronger if it wasn’t for a guy named Nick Foles.
  • Don’t look now, but the Hunter is back. Trent Cole has 8 sacks in his past seven games and looks like the Pro Bowler he was for years under Andy Reid. Cole terrorized Pro Bowler Jermon Bushrod (who has done a good job at Left Tackle for the Bears), racking up three sacks. He has drawn rave reviews from his coaches, and grades out as one of the best 3-4 OLBs in the league according to Pro Football Focus. The Birds’ Defense is a completely different animal when Cole gets after the Quarterback.
  • The biggest matchup Sunday will be Cary Williams on All-Pro Dez Bryant. No matter who plays QB for the Cowboys, Bryant will be heavily targeted. Bryant is a headcase and Cary Williams is one of the biggest trash talkers in the league. Williams will be all over Bryant Sunday.

Um…a good many of us said that the Eagles would be in contention for the division – that 9 or 10 games would win it and the Eagles would be no worse than 8-8.

Yeah.

LOL.

I’m sure you called Foles coming in and leading the Eagles to 8 of their 9 wins…..er, 7…can’t count that NYG win for Foles of course, even though he played over a half and led the O to the majority of the points…..

If your BFF had led the team (as you hoped/predicted) the Birds would be 5-10 right now

Hey, and I see you all over Birds 24/7 gushing over Newton again.

I thought you kept your near orgasmic praise of Newton to Gcobb, but apparently not.

Good call on your part.. I’m sure they didn’t get to this point in quite the same way you envisioned it though!

Actually once Vick went down the second time I had no expectation to see him again and thought they’d finish 8-8 at best – but once the defense started playing well figured they could squeeze out another win or two – it was all based on whether the played well or not.

So far they have.

Well if the defense was still giving up 31+ points a game that wouldn’t matter now would it?

Unless of course you’re going to tell me Vick was gonna lose to the likes of The Raiders, Giants, Skins, Tampa and the Cowboys.

Or the fact we were a topped ranked offense when Vick was in as well. Basically we would be in the exact same place, with maybe an extra win or two in the division.

What the offense did wasn’t going to be the issue. What the defense did was…

Offense turning the ball over never affects the D doncha’ know. Its a “team game” if Vick loses or Foles wins, but not a team game if Vick wins or Foles loses.

The formula is simple.
“unless you’re going to tell me Vick was going to lose to the likes of the Giants….” Ummmmmm….he did lose to the Giants (if you are going to count the first as ‘his’ win, then the second is ‘his’ loss)

She also didn’t factor this: (see if she can figure it out) Again not counting the first NYG game as they both played)

26 (19), 10 (-3), 6 (-10), 13 (-8), 0 (-12)

vs

14 (-3), 0 (-3), 29 (+13), 10 (+7), 17 (+17), 17 (+10), 0 (-8) (blizzard), 9 (-8), 24 (+21)

In Vicks 5 starts, the D gave up 11 pts/game over the first half (not counting the 14 pick 6 points handed to the opposition and remembering that was against 2 prolific offenses in SD and Denv)….in those 5 games…vick entered the 2nd half losing in 4 of those games. The offense was not scoring.

In Foles’ 9 starts, the D gave up an average of 9 points/first half…in those 9 games, Foles entered the 2nd half winning 5 of those games. The offense was scoring…..

Under Vick, the O averaged 11 pts in the first half

Under Foles its 13.

IF, you take out the Outliers (the one game that just doesn’t mesh with the others) for each player (Foles Dallas, Vick Washington)

Then its Vick: 7.5/half

Foles: 15/half (and that’s still including the 0 in a blizzard – without that its 17/half)

In the majority of starts this year, Foles led offense averaged 17 pts/1st half….Vick led Offense 7.5 pts/1st half.

And we wonder why the D is improving.

This makes life easier for the D in the second half.

But he’s not Newton, so he’s no good.

Hey TS, you’re on these Eagles’ blogs now representing Newton every day…I was wondering if you’re also over on the Panther’s blogs (is there such a thing?) telling everyone there how good Foles is.

These mythical turnovers don’t have much to do with anything I said.

Once again we weren’t likely to lose to The Raiders, Giants, Skins, Tampa and the Cowboys with Vick playing. It just wasn’t likely.

And Foles wasn’t likely to beat KC or Denver. Nor overcome the 31 points the defense allowed SD to put up.

Your “mythical” turnover point is well pointless.

McNabb sucked, by the time Foles is through they will regret retiring that Pussy ass passive aggressiv McNabb ‘s number

Randall was good, very good, with some coaching he could have been great, but at the end of the day it will be Nick Foles as the greatest

The cowgirls will try and run Murray hard and look for Whitten and Bryant. We all know that the Birds have had issues covering the TE’s for years now, and Whitten has had a ton of catches against them. If we can shut those 3 down and don’t see how the Birds cannot win.

This is a statment game to the NFC East and the NFC in general. The Birds are back, and will only be getting stronger in the years to come.

GO BIRDS!!!

Haha, you guys attempt to reason with this woman, let’s set some facts straight

As the bible states, tis better to be on the corner of a rooftop in the midst of a woman scorned than to take her abuse in the comfort of the Home.

Forget about this scorned bitch

Something is wrong seriously with most of you cats on here, cigar playing the race card and hypothetical turnovers, Vinne stalking TS Johnson on other sites and Jake being Jake. Well fellas here’s hoping a victory tomorrow night and a nice playoff run and I don’t give a damn how it’s accomplished who’s the QB. To steal from the late great Al Davis just win baby!!!!

You called me on something that’s your issue not mine. Because you have such a small football mind the only reason you can think that someone would like or dislike a person would have to be about race.

I didn’t even say anything negative about Foles and there you are playing the race game. Typical from the small minded folk on this blog.

Answer the question.

Are you all over the Panther’s boards telling people there how good Foles is with the same Fervor with which you plaster Eagles’ boards touting the magnificence of Newton?
