Seahawks Defense Led The Way By Forcing Turnovers

NFC Championship - San Francisco 49ers v Seattle SeahawksIt’s early on the morning after that Seattle-San Francisco game and I have gotten it out of my system.  It was an outstanding battle, which went down to the end and was decided by an amazing play by a great player, Richard Sherman.   I didn’t like Sherman going off on Michael Crabtree after the game, but I understand that he got caught up in the moment.  The game of football is played with tremendous emotion, so I can understand.

I hated to see Niners linebacker NaVorro Bowman suffer such a severe injury while making an outstanding play.  He was the best defensive player the Niners had on the field.  The refs were awful and the NFL must do something about pass interference calls.  When is holding holding when it comes to putting your hands on the wide receivers  downfield?  The officiating isn’t consistent.

The Seahawks defense is outstanding and they led the way for them to this year’s Super Bowl.   Their secondary is amazing and something the Eagles should be shooting for.  The safeties Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor are second to none in the game.  How would Eagles fans like to have those two patrolling Lincoln Financial Field?

The Seattle defense and their competition with Denver quarterback Peyton Manning is going to be the main storyline of the upcoming Super Bowl.  If Manning can pick apart this secondary the way he has done everybody else this season, he’s got a right to make a claim to being the best ever.

In defeat, Niners quarterback Colin Kaepernick was magnificent, while Seahawks QB Russell Wilson played well but not nearly as spectacular.  Kaepernick was a one man offense for the Niners, but in the end he tried to do too much.   The three turnovers in the fourth quarter wound up costing them the game.  Kaepernick ran for 130 yards on only 11 carries.  He completed 14 of 24 passes for 153 yards with one touchdown, but he fumbled once and threw two costly interceptions.

The Seahawks defense led the league in forcing turnovers and that ability showed up with the game on the line.  Defensive end Michael Bennett stripped Kaepernick of the football to force fumble. Chancellor picked off Kaepernick as he dropped into an outside zone, and finally with everything on the line Sherman tipped a pass intended for Michael Crabtree in the air and it was picked off by Seahawks linebacker Malcolm Smith to secure the victory.

Wilson completed 16 of 25 throws for 215 yards and a touchdown.  He fumbled on the first play from scrimmage, but throughout the game he made the plays when he had to make them.  He was helped by the running of Marshawn Lynch, who ran for 109 yards on 22 attempts and a touchdown, but he’ll need to do more in the Super Bowl.

This should be an amazing Super Bowl, but bad weather could make things very difficult for the Broncos.

I would take Kaepernick on the Eagles. He would be a great back-up RB behind Shady.

I would take Kaepernick on the Eagles quickly! He has got heart, competitive fire, a strong arm….and in a Chip Kelly offense….he would be amazing!

Gcobb should listen to pheags, correct, to call Kaepernick play is beyond stupid, that NFC championship was the worst qb play ever

If the Niners and Seahawks don’t win multiple Superbowls in the foreseeable future, it may be the biggest missed opportunities in the history of the franchises and even the NFL.

Those defense are out of this world. A paraplegic at QB could win a Superbowl with that much talent on defense. Can you imagine if we had defenses like that in Philadelphia right now? And our QB fumbled on the first play of the game at home or had 3 ugly turnovers on his last 3 possessions in the 4th quarter to choke the game away? It would be a travesty and just straight up embarrassing.

Seattle should get this one at least. There is not one defensive player right now on Denver that would start on Seattle. Seattle also has the better Oline and a monster at RB. I think Denver is better at about 3 positions, QB, WR, TE…Ill put my money on Seattle, they should win by at least a TD.

Look at the three positions you just mentioned. This just isn’t any QB, and WR tandem. It’s probably the best ever! It’s going to be one hell of a game. But I’m taking Denver. 28-31. In the end, Peyton is going out on top. Bank on it.

CT, if the game was being played in doors on turf then those positions would be a much bigger factor. But outside in the cold wind, Seattle should take this easy. When you are that much better at all these other positions, you should win easily. Even if they had Von Miller, its still wouldn’t be close IMO. Seattle has like 6-7 Von Millers on their defense.

BTW, we took Graham over Thomas, traded up too. I think every Eagles fan thought we were taking Thomas. Even Sal Pal said we were taking him when we traded up. He was the obvious choice but obviously Reid wanted to out smart everybody again.

And we took that bum Watkins in front of Wilkerson. And that beast played college ball right in Philly’s backyard at Temple. Just terrible.

49ers have had 3 shots at it, as we know, those shorts aren’t unlimited.

Going into next year they have Gore at 31, V Davis at 30, Boldin at 34, Staley 31, Goodwin 36….

The D is still young, but there is some age creeping in on O. Plus they have to compete with a younger Seahawks team.

Could the window already be closing?

On top of that – they still don’t have a QB AND can’t win anyway because Harbaugh is a dick!

Your drunk! They have got a far better QB than we got. Kaepernick has won playoff games this year and last year for SF. They beat Green Bay because of Kaepernick…he beat a tough Carolina defense! Playing against the best defense in the league, Kaepernick kept SF in the game…

3 turnovers in the 4th quarter. Be time players step up during those times not choke. If Foles had done that you would be all over him. What a dick you are. Racist troll

That’s why you lack credibility. Your posts demonstrate a serious double standard to the point that it’s truly comical. You are so partial that you look at one performance and say it’s ass. You look at an equal or worse performance from Kaep and say it was good and clutch. Stevie Wonder can see through you bro. It’s fine to support who you like, but if he has a bad game or choke, be a man about it and stand up for him. You like to piss on peoples shoes and tell them it’s just raining. GTFOH.

“They beat Green Bay because of Kaepernick…he beat a tough Carolina defense! Playing against the best defense in the league, Kaepernick kept SF in the game…”

You are correct: Kaepernick has a world of talent…

That last series, Harbaugh has three timeouts left: Why didn’t he call one, talk with his QB, and set up a better strategy for what could have been the game winning TD?…What happened was similar to something Andy Reid might have done…You can’t blame Kaepernick: He took a shot, but the ball got tipped.

All this ridiculous criticism of players is something due to the ignorance of the present generation, and to the constant sewer mouth of the media…In ‘my day’ [—-), you never heard this garbage about ‘choking’, ‘pussy’, ‘dog’: it just didn’t exist…People respected great athletes.

Also, you must take into consideration the various ‘scripts’ that Las Vegas are looking at.

Don’t take it all too seriously.

Thanks for that post Paul.

It would be awesome if we picked up Thurmand. He would be a MAJOR upgrade in our secondary.

JESUS WHY THE FUCK DID WE TAKE DANNY WATKINS OVER FUCKIN EARL THOMAS?!?!?! I Remember watchin the draft saying take EARL. I cannot believe it!!! (It might of been Brandon Graham. Im not sure.)

It was Brandon Graham that the Eagels Selected when they Traded up with Seahawks to move up 11 Spots from #24 to #13 and Selected Graham instead of Safety Earl Thomas

Gary Cobb
January 20 2014

“This should be an amazing Super Bowl, but bad weather could make things very difficult for the Broncos.”

Gary, the Broncos play in a cold weather city…You remember last years AFC Divisional game against the Ravens?…By the end of that game, the wind chill was -25 degrees, and the whole game was played in a temperature of around +20 degrees…The Broncos lost that game because of a badly missed field goal by their kicker and a coverage breakdown by their safety & CB with less than a minute left…A couple of turnovers hurt too…But that game was played in the worst weather.

The Seahawks play in rain in Seattle, so give them a slight nod there, but it doesn’t snow, nor is the temperature below freezing.

The game will come down to whether Manning can manage and use all his receivers properly, and whether the RBs can step up versus a tough Seattle defense…Turnovers must be avoided, and Denver’s defense will have to keep playing well.

As the talking heads have noted, Manning will be talking to the ‘other’ Manning about specific weather problems at the Meadowlands.

BTW, I heard something funny & true on a WIP commercial last night: ‘We are the cockroaches of the Philadelphia sports world’.

A Richard Sherman body type.Remember the name Keith McGill out of Utah. Hes a physical freak at corner. At the Senior Bowl weigh-in he came in at 6’3 214. He had the longest arms of the day amongst corners, a freakish 80 and 7/8th inches. We know the type of player/corner Chip wants tall and long, and this kid fits the description. Remember Keith McGill of Utah..

You best believe both he and Sylvester Jean Baptiste will get a lot of attention this week at senior bowl. If I was Howie Roseman I would have spies on the Seahawks evaluators…whatever corners and safeties they liked…I’d put at the top of my list!

It seems like the longer taller physical corners tend to have the longer careers in the NFL. Charles Woodson 6’1 200, Charles Tillman 6’2 200 etc etc. Of course they keep themselves in tip top shape and take care of their bodies, but they’re physical with the wrs, they do the beating up and wear them down.. I really like that style. I like the idea of tall long physical athletic corners lined up with the opposing wrs and being told to beat that guy up all game long.

I see Chip and Howie snagging one of these guys. I think it’ll will be McGill..

That’s not saying much for our talent evaluators if we have to spy on others who have a clue as to who is an NFL player Eagle…….LOL!!

But then again, Howie may need the help…..

He is not very fast, and is not as good a cover guy as some other prospects. He may be converted to Safety. Just because he is tall doesn’t mean he can play. Everyone who is tall at cornerback, isn’t necessarily a player at the position.

Isn’t funny that when the Eagles’s defense won games while Foles played like hot shit that people here related the wins to Foles but it’s just the defense when Russell Wilson win an even bigger game in which the defense played well?

If Foles would have played that same game last night leading the Seahawks to a win these same guys on here would have been giving him all types of credit.

@ Fraudsongs….The strawman argument you just tried to make…exactly what we’re the game’s that the defense won this year? The offense was 2nd in the league in scoring to Denver…Our problem was that the offense didn’t score points? You lack any credibility, and every statement you make actually reads ” I HATER FOLES”…that is pretty much it. You are a pathetic fraud.

I thought Wilson played a solid game – 64% completion percentage, 104 QB rating… He extended plays by scrambling around like Fran Tarkington. He hit receivers with some great passes.

After Wilson got the lead, the Seahawks defense come up big with a stop at the end of the game.

Foles left the field with the lead too, Songs – but the Eagles defense couldn’t get a stop.

Wilson compared to Tarkington is a good one. I like him… He is a qb that uses his legs to make a pass. Kap is a runner with a great arm. I think Wilson is a lot better than kap…kap will have to learn to make plays from the pocket. Right now it’s look at Crabtree then run…that won’t work over the long haul

I think you have to remember your looking at two young qb’s who are still learning. Lets be honest both of them struggled, but that has a lot to do with the fact that both defenses are outstanding. Kap is a lot like a young Randall to me, if he gets the right coaching he has the tools to be great. Russell is def. the closet to Tarkenton that I’ve seen but he does a lot of the little things wrong, holding the ball to long, not recognizing there’s more guys coming then he has in protection and not getting the ball out quick, things that can be changed. Wouldn’t mind having either one, but def. happy to have Foles. Nothing wrong with a 6 6″ qb who can stand in the pocket and see the field and make quick decisions without making mistakes. Foles has great potential just like the other two what they do with it is the 100 million dollar question.
