Notes From The Phillies’ 2-2 Tie Against Atlanta

howardThe Philadelphia Phillies finished their Wednesday Grapefruit League game with a 2-2 tie against the Atlanta Braves.

  • Sean O’Sullivan got the start, and went three scoreless innings, striking out two and allowing three hits and a walk.
  • Kevin Munson threw two innings, and gave up a run on three hits and two walks.
  • Antonio Bastardo pitched 1.1 innings, and didn’t give up a run.
  • Jake Diekman pitched a scoreless frame, giving up a hit and walk.
  • Brad Lincoln threw the final 1.2 innings, and gave up a run in the ninth inning.
  • Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley went a combined 0-5. Utley’s average has dropped to .167.
  • Bobby Abreu started in right field, and went 1-2 with a single, and scored a run.
  • Darin Ruf went 1-4 with a single.
  • Domonic Brown went 0-2, leaving three runners on base.
  • Kevin Frandsen started at first, and went 2-3, knocking in one of the team’s runs.

Final Thoughts

Every lackluster performance from this offense just makes the concerns about this team grow larger by the day.

Throughout the first handful of Spring Training games, the lineup has gone through constant struggles at the plate.

If anyone reaches base on this team, its usually just a single. Seven games into Spring Training, not a single member of this team has an extra base hit. That’s right, none of the Phillies have picked up any doubles or triples yet. That’s incredible.

With the exception of Bobby Abreu, no one on the roster seems to be consistently capable of working out a walk.

These are very disturbing trends.

***Just reported on WIP, that Hamels has a setback, & might not pitch until May***
What a f^#@ing joke. This organization, is filled with nothing more than liars, BS artists, & misinformation givers! Trying to lie & say signing Burnett had nothing to do with it, & he wasn’t hurt, just fatigued. So We have Lee, Burnett, Kendrick, Fausto Hernandez, & the missing link. Please, for the love of God, someone flush this entire FO, scouts, medical staff, & .300 Monty? This year might be even more depressing, than I thought. They could very well lose 95-100 games. SMMFH….. :”(

I believe Paulman stated that Hamels would not be MLB Ready until
Mid-May, from when when his Tendinitis Issue was first reported last month.. No surprise here..
You can always add about 4-6 Weeks of Rehab/Down Time to what the Phillies ever Report concerning Injuries.. It’s a given..

Unfortunately you were right again paul. I can see it now, Phils win 65-70 games, & all the excuse makers, lap dogs, & lemmings use the injury excuse again. It’s inevitable, before the muffin man, Balky knees, Poppins, & adderall man go down.

“When It Comes To Diagnosing Injuries, The Phillies Have No Credibility”
Denny looks like a genius today for writing that article mid February

It was the same thing 2-3 Offseasons when Utley was having knee issues and the Phils/GM Amaro, never even wnet out to check on him, or send a medical team out hoping that 3-4 Months of Rest alone would do the trick…
I tell you what word/term comes to mind when describing Rueben Amaro
and it what I would refer to a “Complete Amatuer” in every aspect of his Job Respsonsibilites as building a Roster, Contract management..
Take a look at Marlon Byrds Deal, and tell me there was other Teams going hard at Byrd at the beginning of Free-Agency, GM Amaro probably paid twice as high as he needed to, just like when they Re-signed Rollins who talked to and received only 1 other Offer (the Brewer’s) for around nd $7-$8 Million per Season and then the Cardinals said no thanks and then 3 Days later the Phils sign Rollins to $11 Million a Year when no other Teams were interested…

Good call Mhenski — just saw a pic and that guy looks like Pat Willis. He is huge, no fat. At least 250 lbs.
