Chip Kelly Reportedly “Too Busy” To Talk To DeSean Jackson

TDeSeanJackson5he DeSean Jackson saga continues to spiral.

On Wednesday, Les Bowen initially reported that Eagles coach Chip Kelly called DeSean Jackson and told the receiver not worry about the recent trade rumors.

Just hours later, Bowen retracted his report, and did a complete 180. In reality, Kelly had not spoken to Jackson at all.

In fact, it was Jackson who had tried to reach out to Kelly, but the head coach has not responded to the former second-round pick because he’s been “too busy” with free agency and other off-season tasks.

My Take

Its hard for to me to take Bowen all that seriously when he throws out one report and then quickly changes his story after checking out another source.

But let’s say for the sake of argument that the final report is true, and that Kelly wouldn’t respond to DeSean’s attempts to reach him.

If that is indeed the case, its pretty weak on Kelly’s part not to take some time to speak with the guy and ease the concerns of a player who played a gigantic role in making Kelly’s first year in the NFL go above and beyond everyone’s expectations.

Even if Kelly wants to move on from DeSean, and believes that the team is going to trade him, its unwise of him to push Jackson aside and make his relationship with his star even worse. There’s always the chance that the Eagles won’t find a suitable deal, and they’ll then decide that the best thing to do is keep Jackson around…and if they’re shutting him out now, they’re only going to make tensions between Jackson and themselves grow.

A very good NFL Prospect but strictly a 4-3 DE (Like Vinny Curry, etc)
I know Cliff is very high on him, but I see him as a bad fit for te Eagles 3-4 Scheme.. He’s 6-4 275lbs (Very similar and actually a little bigger in build as a Trent Cole or Vinny Curry) and just think he’s better suited in a 4-3 with his hands down and rushing the passer.. I don’t see him being effective in having him Drop in Pass-Coverage which is required for a 3-4 OLB as the Eagles already have converted DE’s in Cole,Graham still trying to make this adjustment..
I do believe that a Team running a 4-3 Defense will Draft him (Possibly the Cowboys, GIants, Bears to name a few) and with the shortage in True DE’s in this Draft, Kony Ealy will probably go earlier in this Draft there were he currently is Rated and think he will be Selected by the 20th Pick or so..

Bottom Line, I like Ealy, but not for this Eagles 3-4 Scheme and think he would end up like a Vinny Curry and be nothing more than a Rotational Player in this Scheme, which is not what you want from your 1st Round Selection.. Eagles need 2-3 Starter Types Prospects that are better Fits for this Defense by 2015

There is a report out that the jets have inquired about desean Jackson they are set on defense outside of cb they can afford to trade the #18 pick for Jackson they don’t need anything on offense either except a wr to go with decker if they give up #18 and 6th and 4th next year I’ll do that deal in a heartbeat….

Any Deal with the Jets would include QB Mark Sanchez
I see a Deal of D-Jax,Brandon Graham
To Jets for their 2nd Round Pick (48th)
And 5th Round Pick (#112th) and QB Sanchez
Who Eagkes would redo his Cobtract as Back-Up
To Foles.. Then Jets add Vick over the Weekend

We have no need at all for Mark Sanchez! With all of this swirling around DJax head…the Eagles would be better off trading him now to the highest bidder…and bid has to get over a 3rd rounder for sure…it should be for multiple picks…If I were San Francisco I would come for DJax hard…his speed with Kaepernick’s arm would be a lethal combination

If the Eagles trade Jackson, they better know who they will get to replace his production..

You better have a Sammy Watkins type deal in place because your trading a multiple yr probowler who everyone knows can lift the top off your defense on any given play. But not only that, he showed this past year that hes a complete receiver..

I keep him, then add to his dynamic skills by bringing in more talent…

There is only 1 Desean Jackson, just like their is only 1 Percy Harvin, and we saw what a healthy Harvin can do during the SB…

All we hear from is Jackson’t “sources”. He’s getting his friends to find out if the Eagles’ like him. Like he’s in grade 8.

“I don’t think they like me. They don’t give me enough things. Find out if they like me….”
“They say they like you.”
“Ya but…you know…..do they LIKE-like me?”
“I don’t know. Why don’t you go ask yourself?”
“They won’t call me back. They never answer the phone. Can you pleeeeeeease go talk to someone. Maybe Les Bowen. He’ll know!”
“We talked to Bowen yesterday. We told him you wanted to know if they like-like you, or just like you, but he doesn’t know.”
“Phooey. (stomps feet). Well talk to someone else. I need to know if they really really like me. I want to know now, Now NOW!”

Desean is “Robin Thick” he treated his wife like crap and now that she kicked him to the curb he realizes what the rest of us already knew. She is nuclear hot.
Too Late…Moving on Desean….

Chip Kelly’s offense is nuclear hot for any offensive player. Everybody had career years in it. Should have just keep your mouth shut Desean. Asking for more money 7 seconds after you got shut down in the playoffs…Me first is not part of our new SUPERBOWL locker room.

Unlike the previous fat man, this one knows you have to have disipline to win it all. 150 pound crybaby does not fit. We are getting bigger and faster. No more Andy Reid boney “fastballs”…Slow as dirt Avant gone…Boney 150 pound Jackson will be gone,

The panthers are the perfect trade partner they can give up the #28th pick and a 3rd pick next year and A 5th this year.

Now if they trade him to the raiders They should offer
Desean and there 2nd pick for Oakland’s #5 and take Sammy Watkins with that pick

Smitty, why do you, and a lot of guys on here think that these prospects coming into the Draft can replace DeSean?

NOT ONE OF THEM, is better than DeSean Jackson, NOT ONE OF THEM….Not Watkins, Benjamin, Becham, Evans, Landry, Adams, or Cook

you’re all assuming, and praying they duplicate what YOU saw out of them in College. – like you do year in and year out –

I said it once, and I will say it again, – The majority of your top ten WR’s in the draft will be BUSTS – And you don’t know what you are talking about with these draft picks. I wouldn’t trade DeSean at all, and if they do, the Eagles WILL regret it…..

“Me first is not part of our new SUPERBOWL locker room”??? His production, and what he brings to the team – That help Riley Cooper, Maclin, and all the TE’s be as productive, because he is double teamed over the top by the safety – tells all his critics to kiss his ass….

They’re not going to a SuperBowl, unless they fix the Defense anyway – That’s all they should be focused on this offseason – Not this nonsense….

The only whiners I see, are the Eagles Front Office, the WR Coach, and all the DeSean Haters who have been calling for his head or the last 3 years….

If they had traded for Josh Gordon, when they had the chance, before he showed out last season – We would have had, he AND DeSean, playing together in the Playoffs – But we’re stuck with Howie, and his mediocre thinking in terms of talent –

Get over it with DeSean, he is a #1 receiver for the Eagles, as long as he has the talent, and speed he has today – and no one on the team can match what he brings to the table…

So which is preferable.

Top 5 Offense (with Desean) and Bottom 5 D (where we are now)

or

Trade Desean, suffer a bit on O and use picks to improve D.

Presumably that would be the case. Couldn’t/wouldn’t the extra pick(s) from a desean trade be used on DL(s) and LB(s)??

The D would improve a bit and the O would drop a bit. (no where near as much as some people think)

I thought “improving the D” is what you clowns have been screaming for the past year or so. Wouldn’t the acquisition of more high picks quicken this a bit?

bugsyhawk

A 3rd round pick is not going to dramatically improve the defense as much as losing DeSean will affect the offense.

And neither would a 1 if you turn around an use it on a WR to replace him because then you are starting a rookie on the outside or 2 guys that are not game changers.

With the Additions of Maclin & Darren Sproles and another Season with the Developing Ertz with Foles , plus whatever new WR from the Draft is added in the mix, You guys don’t believe that Coach Kelly cannot find a way to make up for D-Jax’s Production… C’Mon Guys…
The Big-Play quick Strike may take a hit, but total Receptions, Yards & TD’s can be made up very easily

Maclin should get 50-60 Receptions – 800 Yards 6 TD’s
Sproles should easily get 30-40 Receptions – 500 Yards 2 TD’s
Ertz should get 40-50 Receptions with 5-6 TD’s

I just don’t see where losing D-Jax means a big difference in the Offense’s production or big scheme of things… Sometimes those quick strikes and scores are great and exciting, but it puts your
Defense right back onto the field.. Nothing with having 6-8-10 Play Drives that eat some clock up to establish tempo and to wear your opponent down, in fact I always felt that it demoralizes the opposing Defenses by nickel and diming them all the way down the field as opposed to a quick strike over the Top which may be more exciting, but a score is a score

You guys act like no other WR’s can create Space.. I’ve heard this argument for 3-4 Years and just don’t but it for a minute
A Receiver who runs a 4.35 like D-Jax as opposed to Maclin who runs a 4.5 is going to make a whole lot of Difference in the “space” created in opposing Secondaries..
I beg to differ for 1 main reason, most Teams know that D-Jax does not g oacross the middle unless it’s a 40-50 Yard Deep Post Route so in essence, when Defending him, you only have to cover from the “Numbers to the Sidelines” thereby not being all that concerned with the middle of the Field….
You need to bring it up a notch HAC… CB/Secondary Coverages was my Postion and know it well my friend..

I agree Paulman.

If Sproles gets 10 touches and a few catches a game and the new “rookie” Wr preferably Evans or Benjamin grab 800 yards plus then you easily can make up for it I think Ertz and Sproles can probably make up the difference alone.

As far as Pman talking about not having to worry about Dsean across the middle… learn Chip’s system Pman. In this system… Desean needs to keep it on the sideline and go deep. This keeps the clutter out of the middle for the fast TE’s and Rb’s to cruise around in there. Sometimes Jackson comes out of the backfield but mostly they want him occupying guys on the outside.. and do do it quickly. Chips plan has been to use the entire field… Desean does that.

at #16 being very interested in Ealy who won’t make it to #22)

I still feel he should lose about 10 pounds, but he CAN play as a 3-4 OLB in the NFL – and the Eagles need Pass Rushers

I will continue to disagree with Paul’s evaluation – all the teams that he mentioned, as well as others are not only looking at him as a 4-3 DE, but also as a 3-4 OLB – Because he is athletically capable of playing the position, a lot better than Trent Cole…….

Yep he so much better the Jets released him to pick up Vick, Sanchez is a bum like Barkley like Leinart and to an extent Carson Palmer. As for the Eagles picking up Sanchez why would they they already have a USC QBing stiff on their roster. Wouldn’t surprise me one bit it Sanchez never takes another snap in the NFL.

Call Barkley a bum or a stiff all you want….but clearly Eagles brass thought he was a better guy to be the #2 than your hero.

Millions in empty space….not a call to Vick. Barkley is the #2 next yeaar…………

Desean and the #22 pick to

Oakland for there #5 and there 4th rd pick

The eagles then trade back to say anywhere between 9-12 and get mike Evans

Now its time to talk about how Inept this front office looks. Its here prerogative to trade, release or renegotiate with any player that is fine. But to have this Djax issue out there like this is totally unacceptable. Are you kidding me? To have reports everyday about a player on your team the way they are doing it is bush league. Djax has done nothing criminal to deserve this and if I was his camp as soon as I was traded or released I would be all over Howie(inever won anything) or Chip( I thrived in a pathetic NFC East). Ypu can hate Djax for your own reasons but hes been the best drafted WR on this team over the last 30 years and to drag him down the way this organization is doing just isn’t right. No excuses when we play Arizona, SF, Seattle. No excuses. I just got done watching Ray Rice knock out his girlfriend again and listening to Harbaugh say we are behind him they are getting help. lol unbelievable.

Weakens your team, weakens your leverage in any trade discussions, pretty much makes either trade up for Watkins or hope Evans or Benjamin is there at 22 so if Dix or Pryor is there you pass on them. Just one big colossal case of cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Throw that philosophy out the window when talking about Watkins gloomy. Hes a man. Make no mistake about it. Hes a bully, especially for his size its amazing to watch him not shy away from contact and run over guys. He runs like a RB after he catches the ball. Big hands and superior leaping ability..

You draft Watkins over every single WR in this draft. Then you look at Evans and Benjamin and Odell Beckman who I feel will really set the league on fire (Benjamin and Beckman)..

Either Watkins or you draft Mack who is an absolute beast and hed start for the Birds week 1 at OLB..

The Birds rarely if ever show their hand. They always bring guys in for workouts. They actually sneak a lot of them in and the public finds out after they’ve been drafted by us.

This organization is good that way.. they brought Lane Johnson in for a workout and we didnt know until after he was drafted..

Its way too obvious to bring Evans in and make it public like this and expect them to draft him, they dont operate that way. I believe he was the only WR they publicly made known that they held a private workout with. Heck it was on their website haha..

I highly doubt he will be an eagle..

He was a major reason why Foles had receivers running wide open in space…DJax speed opened up a lot of room for the receivers and running game..Why would the Eagles take Foles best weapon away from him in a contract year? …It does not make sense…we should be bolstering the defense after going on the cheap with Jenkins rather than getting the best available safety…Byrd.

Answer this, how’d Brady look without Wes Welker?

How do you think Cam Newton will look without Steve Smith…

If you don’t wanna pay your play makers your gonna struggle.. period.

Brady hasn’t won a SB since they cheated us in 04′ stop the bs guys. After Wes left Brady and that offense struggled. They were forced to run the ball more and it was Blount who got them further in the playoffs.. that offense looked a mess for most of the year.. no one can refute that.

He had no one to throw the ball to and he sorely missed wes welker. Its not always about a system..

The same will happen with Newton if they dont replace the production from Steve Smith. Its not all about a “system”.. You can’t just cast your play makers to the side and say your offense will run the same way..

And since you brought Branch up Paul, what has Brady won without him? He hasn’t won a SB since Branch was on the team.. Nor has he been back to a SB since Wes left the team.. I give you facts guys, you cant expect your offenses to run great without your proven play makers unless you find guys equal or better then them..

It shouldnt be all about “system” or money all the time..

It’s about having 53 Players pulling together as 1 Team, regardless of the challenges and bumps in the road..
D-Jax has proven that he is incapable of this,
Do he moves on .. No big deal
Maclin will end up with 55-60 Catches
Sproles will add another 35-40 Catches
Ertz will improve in his 2nd Season with 40-45 Catches
Still have McCoy & Celek & Cooper and whatever
New WR’s they add in Draft..
I’m not worried about the Offense one bit..
As I have said all off-season, if they don’t improve their Pass Rush from 37 Sacks to the 50 Range, they are not going to compete against the better Teams of the NFC with or without D-Jax..

Most of what you said are a hope and a pray. No guarantees.

The only thing that Maclin has proven is how injury prone he is thats about it. We “hope” he can stay healthy..

We “hope” Ertz improves..

We “hope” Lesean can replicate what he did this past year (he’s proven and consistent so he may)

We “hope” Cooper can look like the guy we just saw this past year (while desean was on the field)

See its all a hope hope hope.. None of those guys outside of McCoy have been anything near consistent.

There’s only two playmakers that we have that have been consistent for us and we can count on, Jackson and McCoy.. thats it. I’m talking multiple years, and both guys are pro bowlers..

You guys really hate Desean sheesh..

If you had a job and you knew you were worth more money then they were paying you and didnt want to pay you, would you give your all especially if you had a job where your livelihood was at stake? If you got badly injured how good would you be for that company? They’d cast you off like you was yesterdays trash..

Desean had every right to act the way he did. You guys dont understand unless you’re going through it, from the outside he looks like a selfish guy but all his teammates and coaches call him a great competitor and teammate..

Cut the crap guys

And the other big example there is Brady is the QB. SO while they struggled a combination of a weak division and Brady being Brady allowed them to get to the playoffs.

Foles isn’t Brady – so to expect him to drag the Eagles to the playoffs let alone win a superbowl minus playmakers is just silly talk.

TS also continually rips Foles saying he only beat terrible “non-playoff” teams. Earlier she was all “whoop-de-do – they went 10-6 against nobodies.”

Completely ignoring the fact that Desean’s 5 100 yard games this year were against the Faders, SD, Minny, Washington and the NYG when they were decimated.

So he only performed against teams that were bottom 5 in pass D.

Against Arizona he’s pulling in 3 catches for 30 yards.

TS is very consistent. Foles isn’t that good because all he did was beat shitty teams, but Desean is indespensible even though he only played well against those same shitty teams!

Where the hell were all this wide open spaces that DJax cleared out in 2011 and 2012?
Donavan McNabb made him in 2009 not the other way around.
Then DJax disappeared for 3 years because Mike Vick was a stiff.
Then in 2013 DJax reappeared from obscurity when a top ten NFL QB returned to the Eagle just like when McNabb was here by the name of Nick Foles.

Well everyone in the NFL media industry is reporting the same thing now and Ruben Frank has joined them. Desean Jackson is available for trade and on the field play has nothing to do with it.
