Report: Eagles Want To Trade Up For Wide Receiver

marqleeAccording to Peter King, the Eagles are involved in discussions with at least two teams about moving up in the first round to draft one of the top wide receivers.

King believes that Odell Beckham would be the team’s primary target, and that Marquise Lee would be their fallback option.

I don’t like the idea of the Eagles trading up.

This is such a deep draft, and the Eagles only have six picks to work with right now. I don’t believe that either Beckham or Lee would be worth sacrificing multiple picks from this year’s draft to move up. The only receiver in this draft that I’d consider trading up for is Mike Evans, but otherwise I’d rather the Eagles just stay at 22.

There are so many talented receivers in this year’s draft, and I’m sure that one of the top guys after Sammy Watkins and Mike Evans (Beckham, Lee, Brandin Cooks, Kelvin Benjamin) will be available at 22 for the Eagles.

If anything, it makes more sense for the Eagles to trade down and acquire additional picks for such a deep draft rather than limit their amount of selections even further while putting even more of their hopes on one guy making a big difference for them going into the season.

I think its ridiculous that the Eagles even have to consider trading up for a wide receiver, but they put themselves in this spot when they decided to create a need at the position by letting DeSean Jackson go.

Denny, your late, read the last post about the Eagles on here, I just got done saying the same thing lol, I’m in total agreement, they should be moving back and getting more picks in this deep draft, I will say this, if they do trade up,you know Chip is running the show, we all know how much Howie values draft picks.

Btw Lane Johnson IS NOT a bust and will be a Pro Bowler this season, take it to the bank!

I don’t know about Pro Bowl but definitely not a bust. My buddy who scouts for Bleacher Report and couple of other sites says he was the best pick of the lineman in the top 10. Will grade out well in the long run compared to the rest. Thinks Fisher may be a complete bust and hes a Chiefs fan lol.

He loves the G out of UCLA thinks hes the best lineman in the draft.

So let me get this straight. We need defensive help. We get rid of only pro bowl recievers in the last 25 years. We then get rid of picks to move up in the draft to get another WR who may or may not pan out. We neglect the defense in the draft and give up picks. Lol this is getting better and better

Eaglehaslanded
Eaglehaslanded
May 5, 2014 10:54 am

I can only hope this is rumor and nothing more than pre draft smoke. This team can not afford to trade up for an ODB. If it was Mike Evans…ok, Anthony Barr, yes. Whether you like Djax or not, the reality of creating a need now materializes into reality as we have to use a pick on a position that yes, we had a pro bowler in. Someone is going o be on the board that we do not get because of the need to draft a receiver. We’ll find out in a few days. I’m hoping Anthony Barr slides so Eagles can have the option of moving up or choosing him.

Paulman that trade sounds good as long as we don’t have to give up any more picks outside of that #22 and you may have to take out Bryce brown and put in Brandon graham instead they already have good rb depth with Doug Martin & bobby rainy. Hell I may even give them vinny curry instead as long as I don’t have to give up more picks I would do it.

Michael Carter Williams named NBA rookie of the year today – another typical gloomy bust prediction by GMCliff ( as usual) when he suggested the sixers should have selected deep bench warmer Atlanta Hawks PG Dennis Schroeder instead when he incorrectly predicted MCW was nothing but a 2nd stringer.

But, IJ, these jokers will bring up every preserved miss, but won’t give props for the many correctly predicted…I shake something like this off…. I’m more right than I am wrong……

But I don’t think I am incorrect about MCW…His play dropped off considerably toward the second half of the season.

As soon as they traded Jrue he was the guy I wanted at the 11th pick. You can’t teach what he has and you can improve upon his freaky measurables.

Disagree about his play tailoring off. His usage went up while his teammates got progessively worse. He is not a scoring point guard and he uses his ability to get to the rim to open up the floor for rest of the team. At the end of the season teams were daring him to get the ball out of his hands because outside of Young there was nothing to worry about.

He will explode next year if Noel is able to get up and down the court on transition and is able to rebound well offensively etc. His game is tailored exactly to the offense. Sixers just have no other pieces at the moment. But a SG that can open up the floor from 3 next season and I think he is going to be legitimate double double stat stuffer. I wouldnt be suprised with a 18 8 6 stat line on him consistently.

gmc, I don’t often disagree with you, but MCW is a good young PG, & if he keeps working on his all around game, especially stop turning the ball over at a frightening pace, & the need to take the ball to the hole more, I think he’s destined to be a top 5-7 PG in the NBA, very soon. This is coming from an extremely, critical grader. I actually think they got the steal of last years draft. Let’s Hinkie Dinkie, picks some good players this year, or we will blow for another 30+ years.

Paulman’s 76ers Mock Draft (Version #1)

1st Round
1st Selection – PF Noah Vonleah (Indiana 6-10 240lbs)
2nd Selection – SG Gary Harris (Michigan State 6-4 210lbs)

A Starting 5 Next Season of

PF – Noels (Focus on Defense, Blocking Shots & Rebounds)
PF – Vonleah (A Double-Double every night and can score facing basket)
SF – Thadd Young (a Slasher, more chances to play a bit outside a bit)
SG – Gary Harris (a rising shooter, capable of 15-20 Pts a Game, good Defender on the Ball as well, has big upside as a NBA PLayer in my opinion)
PF – Michael-Carter Williams (a True Point Guard)

Bench (so far)
Guard Tony Wroten, Center Henry Sims

Theres no way in hell you draft Vonleah in the top 5. Nice player but not a game changer by any means. Harris is a good pick and you can get away with him at the 2 because of what MCW brings you at the 1. I would prefer they take a flyer on Stauskas more size better shooter. Or really gamble and go after the kid from UCLA Levine.

Or role the dice and just take best player available regardless at the second pick and make a run at Lance Stephenson this offseason. If you think his head can stay on straight.

However at that pick he has CJ Mosley one slot ahead at 21…Barr at 25…Lee and Benjamin available.

Good stuff dcar, add to Lee that hes inconsistent but has a high ceiling…

Mosley is a stud and will be a very very productive LB in the nfl. I expect him to start day 1 on a team. I mentioned Mosley on here maybe a week ago as a potential target of the Birds with this possibly being Ryans last year here and Kendricks new contract fast approaching and the uncertainty of him resigning or their being a issue (doubt that their will be) but drafting Mosley would solidify that position for this upcoming year..

Im hearing too that the Birds are willing to move up for Barr and or Johnny Football if one drops out of the top 10. They like both Evans and Watkins too but if they are considering to move all the way up into the top 5, its for Khalil Mack and no one else, the rest is a smokescreen..

I am not a Pryor fan at all I just see a thumper with adequate ball skills. The gap between him and Clinton Dix is wide and I think the gap between Pryor and Buchanon is not that big and I like Buchanon more in coverage.

Call me crazy. But I wouldn’t trade up for mike evans. If he somehow magically fell to 22 then so be it. I’d take him no question. I have reservations about how good he will be as a pro and predict that Beckham and Lee will be better pros.

Evans’ upside is crazy but I just can’t see him getting open in the league. I could be wrong however. Besides megatron somebody please name me a receiver that size who is dominate.

I disagree about Mike Evans,
I think he will have a more productive NFL Career
Then Watkins or Lee..
Remember that he had the very unpredictable
QB Johnny Football passing to him the last 2 Seasons..
Put him on a Team with a Pocket QB who can read Defenses and deliver the ball in time and Evans can be a special player..
He reminds me a little like a Marvin Harrison type

ok…let me examine this correctly.

The Eagles biggest issue is the defense…. they suck ass.

So, instead of focusing on the defense our Eagles created a gigantic hole on offense by letting Djax go for absolutely nothing, and now have to trade up to replace him.

So….. they will probably lose a pick trading up and won’t be able to address the defense until after the first round with fewer picks.

This Eagles front office are a bunch of ass clowns.

I’m really starting to believe the problem wasn’t all Reid’s fault here.

Unless you’re trading up to get Watkins, or Evans, it would be insanely STUPID, to trade 3 draft picks (which it will take), to draft the same quality WR, that you can get in the 2nd. Lee will be there at #22. Matthews, Robinson, Moncrief, Latimer, Adams, Benjamin, Landry, Bryant, Richardson, Norwood, can all be had in the 2nd, & 3rd rounds. If they want a WR in the 2nd, they can trade up in the 2nd, & not have to give up as much. This is all pre-draft, smokescreen, BS! It would be STUPID, to trade assets, when you only have 6 picks! That’s what makes the DJax debacle worse, by not getting anything for him. They better use Graham, Brown, Curry, & Mathis to get more picks, if the trade up, or it’s going to be another disappointing, underwhelming, head scratching draft.

Eagle Fans I have a question. When was the last time you stood up and said YEEESSSS after a 1st round selection? When was the last time a player was on the board in the 1st round you kept hoping and hoping nobody would take andit came to our pick and we took him? Don’t say Lane Johnson that was like a “I guess that was ok”. But seriously we do this every year get all excited but do we ever get who we really want? I guess Ertz last year is a good example but when was the last time say a player like Pryor fell, we all sat there yelling we got him, then we actually took him. I swear I cant recall. Maybe if Beckham, Fuller or Pryor drops to 22 that is the only way we will have a consensus in opinion. If we trade up and give up picks we wont be happy. If we take Lee we wont be happy. If we take Barr(reports are he is ok) some wont be happy. If we trade back depending on what picks we get would some fans wont be happy.
