Notes From The Phillies’ 3-0 Loss To Los Angeles

San Diego Padres v Philadelphia PhilliesThe Philadelphia Phillies lost their third straight game on Wednesday, falling to the Angels 3-0. Their record drops to 17-21.

  • A.J. Burnett was medicore for the second straight outing, lasting just five innings and allowing three runs.
  • Burnett gave up runs in each of the first three innings, and allowed seven runs and five walks.
  • It was another lost offensive outing for the Phils, who managed no runs on only five hits.
  • Chase Utley had two of the team’s hits, and both of them did go for doubles, but that was the only offensive spark the Phils had in them.
  • Ben Revere went 0-4, dropping his average to .268.
  • Marlon Byrd and Domonic Brown combined to go 0-8.
  • Carlos Ruiz was the only batter in the bottom of the order to pick up a base hit, going 1-3.
  • Jeff Manship pitched a clean sixth inning.
  • Mike Adams worked a scoreless seventh.
  • Mario Hollands turned in a scoreless eighth.
  • Antonio Bastardo was able to mop up in the ninth inning.

Final Thoughts

After teasing fans with some competitive play on the west coast, and a fool’s gold series victory over the Nationals, the Phillies have shown their true colors over the last two weeks.

They’ve been shut out three times in the last 10 days, and they’ve scored three runs or less in nine of their last 14 outings. They’re becoming harder to tolerate with every loss.

What date did you predict Charlie would be back as manager?
It could be sooner than you thought.
I hate this team right now.

In more relevant news NBA LOTTO night in 5 days. Sixers gotta get this right:

my power rankings

1. Parker
2. Exum- this guy is an athletic freak with sick leaping abilities, speed, and can break down defenders with ball handling skills
3. Wiggins- i guess he has to be here at 3 based on upside but its concerning how he cant break defenders down with ball handling skills. ill take exum over him

we gotta get 1 of these guys and if okafor wasnt gonna come out next year id mortgage a lot to move up with our 2nd pick (number 10 overall) to get two of these 3 guys.

So here are my questions about these guys.

Parker – Where is he going to play? He is a bit of a tweener. Offensive talent there, but defensive side might prove for tough match-ups.

Exum- you draft this guy to be your PG right? So what happens to MCW?

Wiggins- Not sure what to think about him. I know he has a lot of upside but he may be the furthest away from actually contributing. Looked lost on the floor a lot unless he had the ball.

If they don’t get 2 of these three guys, because of a lower 2nd pick then I would like to see them take one of the best pure shooters in Stauskus. I know that he is not quick, but his length at the 2 might create some mismatches and he can shoot the lights out. Whether it is him, McDermott, I would like to see them come out of the draft with someone who can put the ball in the basket from more than 5 feet.

parker isnt a tweener he is a flat out monster and his game translates to him playing sg, sf, pf all day against virtually any defender in the game.

exum has the size to play sg and if he or mcw can develop a jumper that would be a filthy backcourt. both have the size to guard sg or pg both drive the lane problem is the jumpers…

wiggins imo is a true tweener, probably plays sf in the nba and i think it will take a while for him to find his game but playing next to mcw will help him a lot because of mcw’s drive and kick abilities.

sixers cant get 2 of these guys unless they trade up with the 2nd pick

Stay away from Stauskus who was a good College Player but will find it difficult to get his shot off or shake off NBA Defenders..
He’s got the “White Man Disease” and is an overachiever who will have a short NBA Career. maybe a nice Shooter off the Bench (Kyle Korver) but surely not a Player worthy of a Early 1st Round Selection

When the NBA erased the illegal defense man to man rule and instituted the no hand checking rule, sharp shooters like Stauskus’ role in the NBA flourished while guys like Shaq’s role diminished. A dominate Point guard has to be double team leaving shooters open on ball swings. Stauskus is as fast as Ray Allen or Klay Thompson right now.

I like Parker the best, but I am not sure that he will ever be able to defend the 4. I also question your assertion that he will be able to defend a 2. He is definitely the most NBA ready especially on the offensive side.

No way do I want Exum and MCW in the back court. Then once again the Sixers have 2 guards that can’t shoot and 2 guys that will want the ball in their hands.

I believe that’s what the 76ers would pick
Randle will struggle at the NBA Level and I look to see him drop out of the Top 10 all together.. I find it unlikely that 76ers Select Embid for what what thy do with Noel’s who is inside the box Player like Embid is plus with his injuries, just find it a bad combination, since they really could not be on the Court at the same time which is why I think they will get the long but athletic
Gordon who in 2 Years time could really develop as that SF and even a SG
As his ball skills improve.. Talk about size and length
76ers could have a lineup of Noel’s, Darcic, Thadd Young with MCW & Gordon all on the Floor with each Player 6′-6″ or taller.. Yikes..

paul stick with football, & baseball. You know admittedly know nothing about basketball. For sure you know nothing about NCAA players. Gordon doesn’t even sniff inside the top ten. Are you off your meds again? If we get him at 10, that would be fine, but to draft him at 4, with Randle, Vonleh, Exum, & Smart still there, would be imbecilic, & set this team back another decade!
