Notes From The Phillies’ 6-2 Loss To Colorado

Cole Hamels 20The Philadelphia Phillies lost their match against the Rockies on Tuesday night, falling 6-2. Their record drops to 22-27.

  • Cole Hamels took the loss, allowing four runs through seven innings.
  • Hamels started out strong, allowing just one run through the first six frames, but came undone with a poor seventh inning in which he allowed three runs to score. After allowing two men to reach base, Cole gave up a three-run shot to Wilin Rosario.
  • The offense struggled through another rough performance, scoring just two runs on eight hits.
  • Ryan Howard, who had driven in five runs a day earlier, was given the night off.
  • Darin Ruf hit his first homer of the season in the fourth inning.
  • Ben Revere went 1-5, and hit the first home run of his career in the seventh.
  • Carlos Ruiz went 2-2 with a walk.
  • Jimmy Rollins went 0-4 with a walk.
  • Marlon Byrd went 0-4 for the second straight game.
  • John Mayberry went 1-3 with a walk.
  • Cesar Hernandez continues to play third, and went 1-3 with a single.
  • Jeff Manship was asked to pitch the eighth inning and keep the game close. He allowed two runs on two hits and a walk while recording just one out.
  • Mario Hollands got the last two outs in the eighth.
  • Justin De Fratus worked a scoreless ninth.

Final Thoughts

The Phillies continued their wildly inconsistent play with another tough loss.

This followed the typical formula that we’ve seen all year from this squad.

Starting pitcher keeps them in the game, offense is nowhere to be found, pitching staff comes unglued over final three innings, Phils suffer a loss.

The Phillies will not be able to make any kind of push to get back in the N.L. East race because they just aren’t capable of sustaining winning streaks. This team just isn’t capable of ripping off five or six-game winning streaks, and all throughout the year we’ve seen them win one or two in a row and then lose two or three straight.

When you follow a mold like that, you’re going to be a sub-.500 team, and you’re also a strong candidate for last place in any division.

This is simply an average Team up and down the Roster
Too many Players with too big of contracts who have lost
their desire to compete for 27 Outs on a Game
in and game out basis like when they were young
And making names for themselves
Middle Relief has been an issue for the last
3-4 Years and is an imprortant part of the Bullpen and the
Phils gave not had the young Pitchers to step up
And handle this “bridge ” to the back end
These 2014 Phils are a 80 Win Team in a pretty weak Division
It is what it is…

You can’t win Denny

You don’t write any article, and then Posters are like, “C’Mon, where’s teh new Articles and Updates”, then you Write an Article and some will say, “What’s this crap, why are you wasting time writing about this Crappy Team or Player” …

The Mind’s of Sports Fans need to be examined, myself included… Ha
Keep up the Good Work Denny and continue to Cover you Teams, If Posters don’t like it or don’t want to read it, than that’s their choice..

I’ll give it some thought in meanwhile I want you to know I don’t dislike everything you write just disagree with some things by putting my opinion in you know, it is very frustrating seeing how much a mess this gm,etc along with owners have created that in my opinion wont ever be fixed until we get the right personnel and above all the right ownership ( real baseball minded people) which I think wont happen realistically until this group sells or leaves something like I said aint happening so thats why I wont and don’t watch them now sorry to say tc
