Notes From The Phillies’ 4-3 Loss To New York

aumontThe Philadelphia Phillies lost their second straight game on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Mets 4-3. Their record drops to 24-30.

  • Cole Hamels turned in a solid outing, allowing just two runs (one earned) over seven innings.
  • Hamels allowed six hits, four walks, and struck out eight.
  • Ryan Howard continued his productive play of late, hitting a two-run homer in the fourth inning off of lefty Jonathan Neise to give the Phillies a lead in the middle of the game.
  • Ben Revere went 1-4, and worked his fourth walk of the season.
  • Marlon Byrd went 1-5, and drove in a run.
  • John Mayberry got the start in left, and went 0-4.
  • Cesar Hernandez got a start at second to give Chase Utley a day off, and went 1-4.
  • Reid Brignac played third again, going 0-3 with two strikeouts.
  • Cesar Jimenez, one of the team’s call-ups from last night, pitched a scoreless eighth inning.
  • Jonathan Papelbon pitched for the third day in a row, recording a scoreless ninth.
  • Justin De Fratus worked a scoreless 10th, giving him five straight clean outings since returning from the minors.
  • Phillippe Aumont took the loss, allowing two runs on one hit and a walk in the 11th.

Final Thoughts

The Phillies dropped three of four over the weekend to the Mets, and could end up dropping four of five with a loss tomorrow. They’ve fallen further into the basement of the N.L. East, and are now six games below .500.

Is Phillippe Aumont not just awful?

It didn’t take long for this bust of a prospect to make a negative impact on the team, coming in and allowing two runs in his first appearance of the year.

I don’t think Aumont’s stay in the majors is going to be a long one. The Phillies optioned Darin Ruf and placed Jeff Manship on the disabled list to make room for a couple of extra relievers after last night’s game. The Phillies want Ruf to be a part of their roster, but his remaining options made it possible for them to temporarily send him down to help get extra relief help to get a tired bullpen through the week since the team doesn’t have another off day until June 9th.

This is an opportunity for both Aumont and lefty Cesar Jimenez to distinguish themselves, and Aumont did all he could to make a strong negative impression. The guy has the physical talent to succeed, but his mental makeup is a mess. It won’t be long before Ruf is back in the majors, and Aumont finds himself back at Lehigh Valley.

The Phils will be fortunate to Win 76 Games this Season
They are just not a good Te and playing in a pretty weak NL East
Too.. the Future is not Very Bright for the Phils..

What’s worse is that the dwindling attendance numbers are going to force the team to finally detonate this group and begin the rebuild that should have already been underway. Problem is, I don’t think I trust this management to identify or execute getting us young talent in return for some of our vets who are at least performing at a level that should merit a decent prospect in a trade.

Everz, you don’t think you trust this Management? WTF is there to think about? Ruin 2morrow, & his band of inept, imbeciles, couldn’t run a fantasy league. He should have been fired 2-3 years ago. Correction, should have never gotten the job in the 1st place. The only reason he did, was because the loyalty .300 Monty had to his Daddy! This organization is barren waste land, & will be until the retards in charge are long gone, & a new regime can be given time to properly rebuild. You are looking at the Phils of the mid- late 90’s- the mid 2000’s! Get used to it!

Dcar, my “I don’t think” comment was a bit sarcastic. While I agreed with trading them at the time, after seeing the zero’s we got back for both Pence and Victorino, I lost any bit of confidence I may have had in management going forward.
