Notes From The Phillies’ 3-0 Loss To Chicago

gilesThe Philadelphia Phillies lost the finale of their series with the Cubs on Sunday afternoon, falling 3-0. Their record drops to 29-38.

  • A.J. Burnett pitched deep into the game today, allowing three runs on eight hits through eight innings of work.
  • The Phillies offense recorded yet another shutout.
  • The bats managed just three hits today.
  • Ryne Sandberg put together a lineup that was rounded out by John Mayberry Jr. at first base, and Ronny Cedeno at third.
  • Mayberry went 0-2 with a walk, and Cedeno went 0-3 with a strikeout.
  • Chase Utley went 0-4, dropping his average to .303.
  • Marlon Byrd, Domonic Brown, and Carlos Ruiz went a combined 0-11 with one walk.
  • The Phils went 0-6 with runners in scoring position.
  • Ken Giles made just his second appearance of the season, and looked good while pitching a clean ninth inning and striking out two.

Final Thoughts

At least Ken Giles gave Phillies fans something to smile about today.

This offense is just the worst of the worst. They’ve been shutout nine times this season, and we’ve only just reached the middle of June.
