Eagles Down Cowboys, Now Move On To Seattle

LeSean McCoyThe Philadelphia Eagles played one heck of a football game in Dallas, and first place in the NFC East is solely theirs.  Was a point proven or respect earned?   That type of speculation is a distraction that Chip leaves for us to debate, his team and coaching staff are prepping for their next opponent.

Look, taking it to the Cowboys the way that they did was the perfect complement to anything we ate or drank during the Thanksgiving feast.  Any doubt about the rivalry between these teams was on display for anyone watching the game.  Plenty of smack talking, physicality and complete dislike for one another was blended within the offensive and defensive whooping the Eagles executed.  Romo, Witten, Bryant all had their moments of whining, finger pointing as they felt beaten up and lost for answers.

There was another game played after the Eagles, and the winning team of the NBC prime time matchup looked as dominant on the defensive side of the football as they did when winning Super Bowl 48.  The Seahawks were flying around the field, in the backfield chasing after the quarterback, sound tackling, suffocating coverage on receivers, it was reminiscent of what shut down the Broncos offense last year.  The offense remains much of what defines them, run first with Lynch both by design and via the option, Wilson a threat to take off and a bunch of role players catching passes.  They have a formula for success, and Chip has over a week in the lab to put together the potion to win this week 14 matchup.

With Chip and the players we have on all sides of the football, this team can match up with anyone in the league.  It comes down to executing, there is no question that the team is in shape, we witnessed how their pace had the Cowboys sucking wind by mid second quarter.

The commitment to buying into the plan of head coach Chip Kelly, merely listen to the players giving credit to teammates.  You will never hear them agreeing to questions that the team is playing their best football, no limit is placed to what they can accomplish.

The Seattle Seahawks; coming to the city of brotherly love, their “12th man” thousands of miles away, it’s going to be an intense battle at Lincoln Financial Field.

Who is going to the game?  What section are you sitting at?  Have you figured out your excuse for calling out of work on Monday?

This fan base has taken over football games in the past, opposing coaches and players complaining to the media afterwards.

It can happen, it needs to happen, but will you be part of making it happen?

Great win in a big game for the Birds. They will enjoy it for a few days and quickly move on to next week. As we all know this fanbase will live and die with the weekly results. It was good to see a 60 minute effort, the first since the Giants game, but it is also a look at how this team can perform on a big stage against a quality opponent.

Before we get carried away, remember you are never as good as your best game or as bad as your worst. No doubt we are a good team, and I believe we are going to be successful in the playoffs. We have lost our starting QB, leader and heart of the defense and our starting right guard. Proving the this is a Strong team, the backups have played better and better each week. Sanchez is a great backup and he has taken the Jets to the AFC championship game twice, so if Foles is not ready or if Kelly decides to make a change, we are still in good shape. The offensive line is player better after the return of Mathis and Kelce, and it looks like Shady is getting the holes and looks he needs to make an impact. Most importantly Bill Davis is doing good things. Yes, he had a terrible plan against Rogers and the Packers, but otherwise he has been able to get this defense playing well even with the injuries and relative lack of talent in the backfield. All positive looking forward.

GO BIRDS !!!

Green right on my brother …it was a great day indeed ..this Seattle game now becomes the focus ..I re watched the turkey bowl ,sanchez through 5times in the 2nd half..the ghost of AR is indeed gone..Lane Johnson and the O line were rewarded and got fed…watching the frustrations on the other side of the field, the lack of tv coverage of jerry jones ,the coach punting on 4th down ,was a pussy out call. Now Seattle brings it’s Super Bowl defense in to the Linc…this is a magical ride …two home games to lock up a playoff spot …you can’t really ask for more …some Thoughts …..who is the MVP of this team …? Name me a personnel move that hasn’t been pretty damn good? Smith perhaps ..well see ..was it the strategy for Cody to not kick off out of the end zone? He was bouncing them ?

You know I had the same thought about some of Parkey’s kickoffs. I would like to find out if it was planned or not. Some would argue that the DJax move may not have been a great personel move, and not getting anything in return certainly not what you would want in exchange for a Probowl WR.

MVP’s so far….tough choices but Barwin on defense….Maclin on offense and Sproles on special teams….and there are a lot of others that could rightfully be better choices, which is all reasons that this team is as good as it is.

I guess it worked if that was their strategy, but I also remember that same strategy failing miserably against the Vikings last year. Parkey has been very good at getting touchbacks off of the kickoffs, much better than Henery, I would have rather he went to get it out of the endzone.

No, Parkey has been a big part of the special teams success. He has given us a longer range on the field goals and the above mentioned kickoffs. He has had a lot of field goals this year, but truthfully I would rather see him kicking more extra points and more redzone touchdowns.

Djax was a coaches decision..the boy George (culture club) has responded pretty well..we will never no the true underlying reasons ,but IMO I’m drinking the post game thanksgiving feast and washing it down with green Kool aid..I look for huff to start getting more involved …possibly the Jordan Matthews or huffs of the future aren’t residing here if Djax was here …they replaced him just fine ..and he’s stuck in purgatory ..in dead skin USA

Its pretty obvious now that we have upgraded the QB position with Sanchez. Now he is not a franchise QB, but the improvement in QB play that we have gotten gives us a better shot to do well in the playoffs. The defense and special teams have been the biggest shock this year for me. They have made key plays and had some outstanding games. With the running game and Shady back in shape…we now got a shot.
Seattle is going to be tough and physical. We will have to run the ball and try to get the tight ends more involved. Its a good thing this is not a must win for us. We need two wins out of the next four games and the division is ours.
11-5 will do it…12-4 is even better…lets close out the division games and we will be in excellent shape!

Nah Kool I want to be greedy I want that #1 seed and home field throughout. I just cannot look at Sanchez as an upgrade but the offense looks faster and if he plays turnover free the rest of the way Foles sits, if the defense is for real no reason not to win out. If Kelly can get to the Super Bowl with Allen, Fletcher and Williams as starters now that would be some epic shit with basic people. Oh yeah and Sanchez as his QB the epitome of basic.

I agree with you Biggie. I am greedy and want this team with home field throughout the playoffs.

As far as the QB, what is “obvious” for KoolSongs is going to be a tough decision for Kelly, which is a good thing for the Birds. Hopefully Sanchez plays more like he did last week, and the team continues to win. It looked to me like they went with more short quick passes last week and avoided the longer routes. It can help Sanchez, but look for Seattle to sit on those short passes and try and force him into tougher throws this week. I do not like him throwing the mid-range or deep sideline out passes, he just doesn’t do well with those and without a really strong arm they are a danger to get picked.

Accuracy will be more important for Sanchez. I watched Kap rifle two passes straight to Richard Sherman Thursday night. Sanchez will not be asked to do much as the running game will be heavily relied upon against Seattle. Quick pace that Seattle defense and tire them out. Sanchez just needs to manage the game. If they give him a lane, he should take it to give them something to ponder during the game. I think our defense will play very well against their offense. Sanchez just can’t turn the ball over, he needs to play within himself and play safe.

Seattle will crowd the line of scrimmage to take away McCoy and the short passing game daring Sanchez to go deep in my opinion. The short passing game needs to be really careful with Chancellor sitting back there ready to knock people silly. This is a winnable game if they shut down beastmode and the read option. Barwin did great spying Newton let’s see if he can handle Wilson.

Also funny lion that you brought that quote up from desean… This team is in fact doing some epic s*** with some ordinary folks…. Sounds like addition by subtraction.
All the anger and vitriol when ‘genius’ Kelly cut his best receiver for nothing… Lots of knee jerk not real well thought out anger on here… How is that working out?

We’ll see because they won the division last year with Desean being a distraction and right now they are leading the division with a cancerous asshole with less talent at wideout so when they win that first playoff game then we’ll know if it worked, if not they can cut Cooper and blame it on him. That sound about right?

Nope.. Think big picture lion… If he is in fact a cancer he will be put in his place. He evidence is pretty thin that he is a cancer… He talked about another mans money, true that is a huge sin in any business let alone a business where careers end before 30 but that is all we know. Sanchez yelled at him on the field, happens 100 times a game, witten was shown yelling at coaches, Bryant was seen yelling at romo… Athletes yelling at each other in the heat of the battle means nothing.
As for his contributions on the field I’ve told you before this coach looks at things a bit differently than you and I… We typically see state and equate that to production, this coach obviously sees coopers production particularly down field blocking.
Truth is no one on here knows a damn thing about deseans ‘cancer’ ‘distraction’ ‘attitude’ that includes you and me. Point is the man that spends 100 hours per week, 52 a year DOES! That’s a man that a billionaire pays millions to for him to make such decisions…

EHL ..green…I read with interest your comments and agree 100% ..what’s most compelling is the history between these two coaches ??Carroll no pun intended still has a chip on his shoulder !because prior to joining the nfl ,Carroll denounced chip for helping school belichek..on the uptempo offense ???we saw in pre season that very strategy vs new eng??they also practice vs each other ???is that a case of the old Godfather line ..keep your friends close and keep your enemies closer…these two PAC 12 disciples are the game within the game…lynch vs shady..Wilson vs Sanchez ..Seattles house of boom vs the up and coming Eagles defense ..one team has the ring ..one covets it…I think Sanchez based upon his resume ,will find this his most challenging game …..they can’t allow the Seahawks to get off the cross coastal trip and force the desired pace by disrupting shady …they will be challenging Sanchez to beat them..I look for two tight end packages ,and much more of huff and Matthews on quick decisive reads …on the other side ,bill Davis somehow took all phases of Dallas attack away ..he bottled up Murray and with a pass rush schemed to establish one big play by Dez..witten had 2 attempted his way ….Romo was hitting the turf ,even before the penetration got there ..that obviously won’t be the case ,with Wilson..this game comes down to December playoff football …two coaches playing chess games and who blinks

The Best way to attack the Seahawks is right up the gut and in-between the Tackles on the Run Game and over the Top in the Passing Game
The Stretch Runs, Screen Passes and short Outside routes play right
Into their Strengths…
The Eagles TE’s with the “seem” routes and the Deep Ball will be critical
To hit a couple of them to back their Safeties off a bit
Should be a great match up..
Eagles need to stay focused and not get frustrated early for they will
Have to Punt a few more times than used to but have to keep plugging away
And hit their shots when the opportunity presents themselves
I like the Eagles chances in a low-scoring Game,
22-17 Eagles…

Let’s see how the rest of the SUnday Games go…
Obviously the 49ers,Cowboys both Drop with the Eagles & Seahawks moving up
As of Today I would have the Following

1) Packers At Home versus the #1 Overall Team in the NFL right now (Pats) which could very well be a preview of this Years Super Bowl

2) Cardinals – Now have to prove they can generate enough Offense and Points with Back-Up QB D Stanton leading the way, I expect them to lose a couple of games down the stretch just for this reason

3) Seahawks – Are back to Playing Smash-Mouth Football, and back to basics and just Beat a Good Team in the 49ers convincingly on the Road
which was a must Win for the 49ers

4) Eagles – Moving back up the Rankings thanks to RB McCoy getting on Track.. I believe I’ve stated all Year that the Key to this Eagles Offense is McCoy and not whoever is Playing QB.. As McCoy Goes, so do the Eagles

5) Lions – Nice Win against a Shaky Bears Team and have a Favorable Schedule down the Stretch to Win the NFC North

6) 49ers – Offense is out of Synch and can’t score TD’s – Keep Kapernick in Pocket, and he Struggles, They still have no Deep Threat and what’s happened to TE Vernon Davis, who has been invisible this Year.. Crabtree/Boldin on strong on those short/intermediate Routes but don’t acquire a Double Team nor do they threaten a Secondary down the field ..
They will need a Collapse by the Cardinals and a lot of Help to make the Post-Season in what I believe to be Jim Harbaugh’s final Season Coaching the 49ers (as he will take the University of Michigan Job/Offer)

7) Cowboys – Defense has been exposed big time, their Defense can be pushed around, Run on & Passed on.. QB T Romo is not 100% and does not have the confidence to extend plays by scrambling around, which is probably when he’s at his best and most dangerous… Their vaunted OL was dominated and pushed around by the Eagles Front 7and it appeared to many that most players were already gassed by the late 1st Quarter and are not in the best condition for the Stretch Run..

Remember that a NFC South Team will make the Playoffs Automatically
so that leaves the Top 5 Teams on my Ranking List to make the Post-Season Tournement

At Stake for the Eagles as fas as Seeding Goes

As a # 3rd Seed – Most likely gets the Falcons/Saints to the Linc
As a # 4th Seed – Most Likely gets the Seahawks/Lions/Packers to the Linc

As a 5th/6th Seed, then on the Road

As you can see, Eagles want to Finish at least 3rd if not in the Top # 2

If they Win 3 out of last 4 Games and Finish at 12-4, they most likely will be a Top # 2 Seed.. If they Run the Table, then they have a great Shot at #1 Overall…

Over the Tops as far as bombs and 40-50 Yard Passes is not what I meant for Sanchez does not have that type of Arm to make plays that far down the field.
I am talking about more Isolation on those 20-25 Yard Seem Routes, or a 1 on 1 Situation with Matthews,Maclin or even Cooper against their other CB’s not named Sherman down the sideline … If Eagles Flood a Zone with 2 Receivers and a Back to one side like a Fake Screen, or Bubble Route, then fake that way, the the other Receiver on the other Side should have 1 on 1 Coverage and that’s the Battles and Passing Routes that Eagles must Win to make the Seahawk Defense play the entire field…

A game full of 5-7 Yard Routes will not work on this Sehawk Defense,
their LB’s and Safeties are aggressive and too quick, but Eagles can take advantage of their aggression and fake to one side, and come back to the other on a 1 on 1 Matchup.. The Seahwaks D in obvious Passing Downs and Distance play a lot of Cover 2, the way to attack the Middle is on those early downs, like 1st Down, but only after establishing a Running Game does this work to it’s best opportunity …

IrishEagle
IrishEagle
November 29, 2014 8:11 pm

I think Maclin can beat Sherman all day on inside routes. If the Seattle front can’t get to Sanchez fast, they might have problems with the Eagles.

The Eagles are not a deep drop, vertical passing offense like the Broncos. The Seattle defense has not played anybody like the Eagles. Chip can show them something different every series. Seattle’s defense likes to dictate what their opponents can do…. that wont be the case vs the Eagles.

To me, the teams that kill the Eagles are teams with quick strike offenses like Denver and Green Bay. Low scoring teams are not the Eagles kryptonite…

No way Irish!! Leave Sherman alone! He’s going to be ready for Maclin! This is a game we are going to need some toughness…Seattle safeties and linebackers are hitters! I dont like the match up at all…we need to run the ball…and get it to the tight ends and running backs in space. Sproles, Shady, and Celek are the keys to our offense in this game. . I see a big day for Celek because he’s the toughest, most physical pass catcher..

Irish ..totally agree with your premise…Seattle is ,however very well coached, and they have there swagger back..I do agree Pman after your clarification…over the top ,to me was a deep seam route or a go route ..I just don’t see trip letting sanchez lift his eyes downfield..this game will be a physical contest ..Polk ..will have more of a presence as will Celek in blocking ..using as you said Pman ..misdirection and getting 1 on 1 match ups.. The intrigue as I stated before …the coaches and there familiarity with one another …they’re both going to be true to who they are …I don’t see chip ,making adjustments to yield to carrols purpose ,by making sanchez do things that aren’t playing to his strengths…both coaches rely on there defenses to set the tone…the hawks like the eagles went on the road and stepped on the necks of a hated divisional opponent…both teams sputtered ,but have now hit there mojo …the game within the game …Russell Wilson is a s gifted a playmaker as we will witness all year ..lynch will look to make it personal with shady ..the offensive line decidedly is in the home teams favor …who ever can establish that ground game will soften the other teams underbelly and be victorious…as much as I was stoked for Dallas ,this one really is the game ,to determine NFC dominance and possibly home field..I can’t discount GB …but if they should trip up …Seattle remains the champs until they’re beaten..and that’s there for the taking…some interesting stats for us to analyze ..Seattle is 31st in passing The eagles are 5th…Seattle is 1st in rushing ..the Eagles 4th…interestingly we rank 31st in red zone efficiency Seattle not too far behind 28th…CODY…..scoring points Eagles 4th Seattle 8th.. AR beat them 24-20.. The hope burns eternal..

Something that has baffled me all season is the small number of times that we use Sproles during a game. Whenever we give him the ball, good things happen. Early in the game against the Cowgirls his first two rushes resulted in first downs, and then he disappeared. We also rarely have he and McCoy on the field at the same time….I think it might be for like 15 plays all season that they have been on the field at the same time, and during those plays I believe we have gotten over 200 yards in just 15 plays….get this man one on one with a linebacker and he will win that EVERY TIME….I still question why we are not fully using one of our biggest weapons more often. Hopefully this trend will stop and as we move down the stretch he will be a bigger part of the offense.

Mariota has to be Front Runner for the Heisman
If he and Jameson come out in the Draft
They are the Top 2 QB’s Selected early in the Draft
When looking at the Draft Board
Teams like Raiders & Jags are the Top 2 but Selected QB’s
Last Year making them most likely to Trade Down
and Acquire more Picks
The Jetd figure to go hard after RG3, but don’t have a lot to
Give up to Redskins outside of Draft Picks which
I don’t see GM Idzik doing..
Titans,Rams & possibly the TB Bucs also,
Though Coach Lovie Smith likes to Play
Veteran QB’s…
The Panthers could be a Wildcard in the QB
derby depending how Cam finishes his shaky Season
Word is down here, that it’s not a given that they will
Offer him a big, long term deal that he is seeking
