Eagles Give Game Away To Redskins

DeSeanJackson1The Eagles made too mistakes versus the Redskins in order to expect to win.  They committed 13 penalties, turned the ball over twice and missed two field goals.  Add to that an abundance of mental errors and it’s very hard to win the NFL, even if you’re playing team which came into the game with only three wins.

After the costly loss, Chip Kelly still believes that his football team is disciplined, but it’s hard to agree with him after seeing his team make so mistakes while giving away such an important game to the Redskins.  Remember that the Redskins came into the game having won only three of their 14 games.

For the most part, Eagles quarterback Mark Sanchez played very well yesterday against the Washington Redskins, but he threw the interception which cost the Birds the game and likely a chance at making the playoffs..  Sanchez threw for 374 yards, while completing 37 of 50 passes with 2 touchdowns, but one very costly interception.

Sanchez sliced the Redskins secondary up throughout the game, and most of the throws were underneath in the five, ten and fifteen yard area.  The former New York Jet just wasn’t able to get away from his history in the end.  He would have been a hero here in Philadelphia, if he had led the Birds on that fourth quarter drive, but instead he threw a costly interception.

Injured signal caller Nick Foles will be the Birds starting quarterback next year because Sanchez isn’t up to it and I don’t see a way in which they’re going to find a better quarterback in the draft or in free agency. Foles has his limitations, but he can make the deep throws, which Sanchez is too reluctant to do.

Tight end Zach Ertz set the Birds record for most catches in a single game by coming down with 15 catches for 115 yards.  Unfortunately, Ertz was unable to come down with a throw from Sanchez in the end zone which might have given the Birds a victory.  The pass could have been lower and easier to catch, but it had to be caught with his hands and he let it go through them.

Going forward, Ertz has to be on the field for the majority of the offensive snaps.  He’s too valuable a weapon to not be a big part of the offense.  I believe Ertz is capable of being Pro Bowl level tight end, but he’s got to be the starter.

It didn’t make any sense to me for the Eagles to continue to have left cornerback Bradley Fletcher matched up in one-on-one situations with DeSean Jackson.  If he can’t cover Dez Bryant on 25-yard fade routes, he surely won’t be able to cover Jackson on fifty and sixty yard go routes.  For the second time, this year Jackson went over the 100 yard mark in a game against the Eagles.

I care what anybody says, I believe Jackson would  have made the Eagles a better football team, if he were still here.  Every safety I’ve ever played with was always worried about getting beaten deep and that what Jackson does better than anybody in the NFL.  His absence has made life tougher for LeSean McCoy because safeties get more involved in stopping the Birds running game.  The threat of Jackson getting deep opens up room for all the other offensive weapons.

I understand that Billy Davis believes in Fletcher as a person, but you can’t continue to match him up one-on-one, when he can’t cover the guy, you’re asking him to cover.  After the game Davis said, ““I don’t regret anything, no.  I make plans based on what I see and make decisions based on what I see and I don’t regret one minute of it.”

“Like all players you’ve got to give him a shot to get out of a slump when they’re in a slump or you just end up bailing on everybody every time one play goes bad. You can’t play ball that way or build confidence that way.

“Made the switch when I thought it was time to make the switch. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out.”

I don’t care what anyone says, there’s no way the Birds should have been letting Fletcher try to cover Jackson one-on-one after the scorching he got by Dez Bryant.  Those big throws to Jackson gave Robert Griffin III the confidence that he lacked coming into the game.  There’s no way to defend that strategy.  Fletcher has been getting beaten deep all season long and his buddy on the other side Cary Williams has been getting penalized consistently.

It took Jackson beating Fletcher two times on those deep passes for Davis to bench the cornerback in favor of Nolan Carroll.

Fletcher’s body language didn’t look good during the game.  Right now he’s a beaten player and somebody needs to have a talk with him.  A player shouldn’t be listening to the criticism or it will have you taking the field with the mission of not making a mistake.

From a technique standpoint, he’s got to use his size and strength to jam Jackson at the line of scrimmage.  It makes no sense to move up into a press technique and not jam a small, speedy guy like Jackson.   He’s never going to be able to stay with Jackson in a foot race.  His only chance to have success is to beat Jackson up at the line of scrimmage.  Instead he moves up into press technique then lets Jackson release and the little guy runs away from him.  That’s not smart and winning football.

Jackson leads the league with 12 catches of more than 40 yards and Fletcher has been nothing but a target for much of the season.  Any clear thinking defensive coordinator is going to send a safety over there to give him help.  Remember that Jackson beat the Eagles for a 81-yard touchdown in the first game.

It’s hard to have confidence in a defensive coordinator like Davis, who continues to get burned but stays in the same defense play after play and game after game.  If the Eagles had forced the Redskins to put together 10 and 15 plays scoring drives, they would have probably made more mistakes.

The Eagles Special Teams had been playing great football all season and Birds rookie kicker Cody Parkey was a big part of it.  Yesterday, he missed two field goals and he could have put the Birds in the driver’s seat for a victory.

13 penalties.

And Bradley Fletcher.

lol

Seriously, teams who have a negative turnover differential don’t make the playoffs. If not for special teams and defense Ealges would be mor elike 7-8 instead of 9-6.

Mistakes were gonna catch up eventually.

They were 6-2 even with turnovers but your point is well taken. The eagles hung in there because they are like number four in forced turnovers

OLB’s that could be nice deals for Eagles
Sam Acho of Cardinals
O’Brien Schofield of Seahawks

ILB’s
Dan Skuta & J Whilhoite of the 49ers
(with Borland & Willis & Bowman returning
From Injury) these guys may want to move on to a Team where they
Can be Starters..
In fact I see 49ers possibly releasing Willis with the emergence of Borland

Also if Harbaugh is gone I can see them walking away from Bowwman Willis and Brooks.

Plus with the new conduct policy Smith is on super thin ice.

That team may be torn apart. They had their chance at a run. Remember I told you I dont think Kap is long term in SF. They set themselves up with a perfect deal with him.

And There is Zippo Chance that Harbaugh remains
He and GM Ballke are not even on Speaking Terms
Any longer..I called this way back when between
Them too, there is no patching up their dislike
For each other…
Word is 49ers are going to go hard after Arizona’s
DC Todd Bowles who obviously knows the NFC West well
And can keep their Defense top-notch while a new OC/QB Cosch
Can retool their Offense which has been horrible off most of the Season

However they are loaded at LB so if they can free up money on defense to retool the offense it’s the smart move.

1st I am going to bet big against Newton on the road in a big game next week. I am excited about this, but not super excited because Atlanta sucks.

Anyway….IF Newton somehow leads Carolina to a win vs Atlante, I will double my bet against Newton the following week.

I can guarantee you there’s no way that pathetic clown wins 2 straight big playoff game.

Cannot lose.

I am beyond excited for Newton in the playoffs. Guaranteed $$.

I wi alaways believe that it was Owner Jeff Lurie’s call
To cut D-Jax handed down to Roseman then
Down to Coach Kelky to explain to the Fans & Media
By pretending to come from Coach Kelly, the fallout was lessened..

There simply was no way that Owner Lurie was going
To pay $10 Million to a Player, who in his opinion,
Was damaging the Eagles “Brand” with his off the field Associates,
Anyone who thinks this was HC Kelly’s Call
Does not know or understand Owner Lurie very well
And now we fast forward 10 months and the riff and resentment of
Coach Kelly towards the Front Office is beginning to
Show.. I see a potential mess at NovaCare this Off-Season
If Maclin & Graham both bolt in Free-Agency,
Then Kelly has lost His Team and many Players are going
To distrust this Front Office again like they did under Joe Banner
The honeymoon for Chip Kelly is clearly over
The thing to watch for these next 2 months is the relationship between
He & Roseman.. What Players are Released,
What Players do they offer sone Future’s Contracts too
As Roseman always liked to do..
I strongly believe that by next year at the end of the 2015 Season
Either Howie Roseman or Chip Kelly will no longer be with the Philadelphis Eagles… Unfortunately for Chip Kelly,
He’s lost a little leverage with OwnerLurie that he would have had with Lurie
If they finished Strong, but now, Lurie’s doubts and reliance
Keep GM Roseman around.
On another side note, if Eagles are not careful,
They will lose Tom Gamble who will be in demand arounmd the NFL
as a GM, my hunch is that the Falcons will pursue him hard..
Could we see a Gamble and Harbaugh Reunion
In Atlanta.. Yes we possibly can..
The Bills under new Ownership & Bears
Could also come calling on Tom Gamble..
Lots of Drama at NovaCare now brewing with this collapse
Over the last Month..:

There was no doubt once the Eagles choked, that the Cowboys were going to Win big over a Colt Team with little to play for.. The monkee jumped off Cowboys back last week when they hammered the Eagles and clinched a Winning Record and ang got the choke label in December off their necks
The Cowboys are flying high now and will be a tough out in the Playoffs
To make matters worse, the Eagles seemingly took
The Choke label from the Cowboys as their own..
Eagles are toast and will get walloped by the Giants who are finishing strong for Coach Coughlin who will be coaching his final game before taking a Front Office Position and will blow out the Eagles

In the end, besides Bradley Fletcher,
the Eagles were a beaten Team,
Coach Kelly’s inexperience and immaturity
Has cone thru in December where the Games separate the Contenders
From the Pretenders… Coach Kelly is a Pretender right now,
His Offensive Schemes are Vanilla and too College-level to
Work at the NFL Level ..
His lack of Involvement or accountability on the Defensive side of the ball is disturbing and reminiscent of the Andy Reid Era..
The Eagles F’d up by Hiring him…for in a lot of ways,
He’s just like Andy Reid, stubborn,in denial & uninvolved with the Defense,
and kind of arrogant..,
2015 is Year 3 for his Program, I believe next Year,

Your incredible Paulman!! Stop it!

You supported the Eagles notion of ‘culture’…they are a team of ‘good guys’ just like you wanted.

They dont have bad apples like Desean Jackson

They draft ‘quality’ kids like Marcus Smith (who we now know is a Linebacker that doesn’t like physical contact….he’s one of the biggest busts in Eagles draft history)

The Eagles Philosophy under Coach Kelly has to be called into question…we are too soft and you supported this philosophy…

That’s bullshit KB,
Drafting “Good Guys” and being “Soft” as a Team are not related,
Just like Drafting “Bad Guys” doesn’t make a Team good…
I have been critical all year long on Coach Kelly
And his Roster Decisions, His Game Plans & Overall Preparations
Condescending arrogance and caught a lot of heat early on from
The “Kelly Groupies” who think he’s a Savior/Genius
and will bring a Championship to the Eagles & City
I think he’s a fraud and personally think he’s a scumbag
For what he did in College and especially how he even changed his mind about taking the Eagles Job in the first Place only after learning about Oregon’s probable Probation if he remained there,so this guy is a snake-oil salesman To begin with and the Philly Media and most Fans slurped this guys bullshit up like the Fountain of Youth…

Kelly made most Draft Selections
Kelly had a say on who to bring in during free-agency
Kelly Hired clueless DC Billy Davis then turns a blind eye
On his Davis’s Poor Def Game Plans

D-Jax was cut 5 months before the Season even started
And shame on Kelly/Roseman for not replacing his Speed
And having no legitimate deep threat on the Roster

Kelly is the Reason the Eagles are home for the
Post-Season and not whether they have “Good Guys
Or Bad Guys” on their Rosters..

We are all frustrated and pissed, but I can’t say
That I didn’t see this coming and mentioned
Many underlining issues all year long
In mid November I said the Eagles would finish 8-8
Well now that doesn’t sound too crazy or far-fetched does it
For they are losing next week to go 9-7
Which is Average which is what I stated this Team was
Regardless if it was Foles or Sanchez
Since it’s Kelly Schemes and college like Game Plans
That won’t sustain success at the NFL Level
Now that the NFL Teams & DC’s have caught up to it

I think Bradley Fletcher is an average starting cornerback.

If you ask any average CB in this league to cover Jordy Nelson, Dez Bryant, and DJax one-on-one…he is going to get burnt.

The Eagles coaching staff left Fletcher out to dry….

Bill Davis has to be fired…immediately after the season…heads must roll when your defense costs you a shot at the playoffs.

In the business of football we comprehend they covet draft picks ,they received absolutely nothing…and that decision in concert with Bill Davis …who defiantly stated “I wouldn’t change anything” well how about changing your adress ??you brought a whole eagles nation and organization to it knees at the holidays ??there will be a heavy price paid ??that’s good business??players who are free agents who befriended Djax and still had his back in the locker room wars !will be interesting to see !if they jump ship…all these dominoes fell Saturday ???fletcher to williams to doom???who in the eagles organization kept allowing this to happen? The head coach…the lines in the sand corporately and football wise have been drawn …Jeffrey Lurie has a ship leaking oil and taking on water ….roseman is a numbers guy, move him into that capacity ..move gamble in ,not risking him as another asset you just flitter away for zero compensation…start the process immediately …in a season where the culture was being preached ,we now see ,that was a charade as divisiveness and power struggles were under the radar …winning covers a lot ,but losing exposes the emperor wears no clothes …who remains standing in the weeks ahead is now our postseason..what a wonderful life….

NFL Adjust Schemes every week or when injuries Occur
We see this with Bekecheck, Packer McCartthy,

The Fact that Chip Kelly did little to nothing new to slow things down, change up the scheme when Foles went down is exactly the same
Arrogant “Next man-up” BS that Andy Reid employed..

Kelly had all Summer to figure how to replace. The deep threat lost with D-Jax, He had time to figure out with a banged up OL
And a Suspended RT for 4 weeks that maybe he should slow things down a bit, more 2 back sets, take time off the Clock to help protect his QB and protect a shaky Defense., hell Kelly had Foles throw 52 Times behind a makeshift OL for crying out loud
Then Foles gets injured, and Coack Kelly again
Has an opportunity to readjust, change his scheme a bit and again, fails to do so.. F Kelly is what I say.. He ruined this Season by
Continuing to live by the “System” rather than adjusting to his available Players he had to Play
Injuries are a huge part of the NFL and if you can adjust,
You won’t last long as a Coach
This is not College where you have 80-90 Players on your sideline every game for your disposal
And where you can simply just wear teams down by tempo and pace alone.
This is the NFL Damnit,
Just to prove how stupid Kelly is,
When Polk was out all Summer and unable to pkay the first
3-4 Weeks of the Season, Kelly on had healthy 2 RB’s on Team
Yes the Eagles went into 3-4 Gsmes with only 2 healthy RB
Who the F does this…
But I’ll carry 4 TE’s 6 WR’s 5 Safeties..,
Love those Special Teams guys but you can’t have
10 guys on the Roster that that’s all they do..

Brad Smith,Jeff Maehl, Trey Burton,
James Casey, Braman,Maragos, Priscopi
Watkins, Bair… etc..
You carry these guys but only have McCoy/Sproles
Available to play at RB!!!! And just because they were fortunate
That neither McCoy or Soroled were injured while Polk was out was just damn luck.. Bottom line Kelly’s an Idiot and a short-termer
In Philly.. He will bolt after 2015 citing some BS and then
Return to College Ball in 2016
Another Bobby Petrino is what Chip Kelly is…

Kelly has to prove he can coach on this level!

No more free rides.

It was “In Chip we trust” when he told us we would be just fine without DJax

We all thought that his ‘innovative’ ways and his ‘culture’ would translate into a tough-minded, strong football team.

He needed people to ‘buy’ in….and what exactly did it get us?

Sitting at home about to watch the playoffs as other physically and mentally tougher teams are going into the playoffs.

What’s Shady McCoy and other younger players thinking about Chip now?

When push came to shove…we got shoved out of the way

Defense collapsed with terrible coaching

Offense was stale and predictable….the league has figured out Chip

Kelly has to prove it

The honeymoon is official over!

paulman

Eagles basically had the last month (4 Games) at Home with 2 short
Trips to DC & Giants and they still ran out of Gas
It all Started with Kelly being enamored with himself about Rumors
About College Jobs that were open..
He handled it like the immature, arrogant ass
That he is and became distracted and full of himself then paid the Price for it which serves him Right..,
He continues to keep Coaching like he did this Season,
There won’t be many Rumors about Schools wanting him
I just don’t like the Guy, period..
He’s a Snake, he always was, always will be…
He better do some real soul-searching and man-up
Or he’ll be gone before his 5 Year Deal is up
I really thought that in Year 2 that Defensively they could rank about middle of the Pack, instead, they remained in the bottom 5 of almost every major Category… He thought they were in after the Cowboy Win on Turkey Day
And could keep the sane generic game plan… Doesn’t he realize these other Teams are paid to Coach too.. Completely outclassed and outcoached by stiffs
Other than Pete Carroll who is a good Coach, but Jason Garrett and Newbie HC Jay Gruden with the Season on the line… What an embarrassment
Kelly list his Focus and then his Staff and Players did as well
This is exactly what they deserve..

Is Falcons/Panthers, are you kidding me…
All other playoff spots are decided, except seeding
Which is not as a big of deal anymore as people make it out
To be…
What a shitty season…

When looking at the last month,
Besides the Bears, which Team has trended downwards more than the Eagles
The 49ers, but most knew that Harbaugh
Was a lame duck, the Saints struggled all season
As I predicted with getting rid of Veteran leadership
That was not replaced and then the over hyped Eagles
The Eagles always choke when expectations are placed on them…
They always perform better when being the underdog
And overlooked Team..

And why is Seattle about to cut Lynch the moment the season ends?

Seattle would have cut him before the season but it would have been an $8 million cap hit….almost $4 million in “dead $$”

No team wants to eat that.

Wait….what? Lynch’s “dead $$” will be just about 1.5 next year???

Wait….what? Seattle is about to release Lynch? The moment it becomes financially viable???

That’s weird (for GCOBB morons anyway)

Seattle dumped “malcontent” Harvin the moment is was possible. They’ll dump “malcontent” Lynch the instant it becomes financially viable.

Newsflash for your idiot ass….We havent won squat!!

Nick Foles success came primarily because of the tremendous ability of one of the best wide receivers in the game…Desean Jackson.

He leads the league with big plays over 40 yards.

He opened up the whole offense, made the running game better

Funny…DJax leaves and immediately Foles becomes complete garbage-falls under 60% passing, leads the league in turnovers

Foles is probably one of the players in the Jeff McClain article wondering if Chip Kelly knows what the fuck he is doing
