Eagles Expected To Sign Ryan Mathews, Walter Thurmond

mathewsAnd the discouraging, questionable moves just keep on coming.

Because having an injury-prone former first-round bust of a quarterback wasn’t enough, Eagles’ mastermind Chip Kelly today decided that he’s going to replace Pro-Bowl running back LeSean McCoy with an injury-prone former first-round bust of a running back.

The Eagles are expected to sign former San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews. Mathews has played a full 16 games only once in his five-year career, including just six appearances in 2014.

After successfully striping away his best offensive talent, Kelly made another move on Wednesday morning, this one aimed at satisfying his Oregon Duck quota.

The team is also expected to sign cornerback Walter Thurmond, who has primarily been a reserve and special teamer throughout his career, is a former Duck who has just one career interception in five years. He could come in and compete for the starting job opposite Byron Maxwell.

A nice nugget to know regarding Walter Thurmond

In 2013, QB’s were 43-65 for 376 yards with 0 TDs and 1 INT when throwing Walter Thurmond’s way. That was his last full season.

If Chip with this superb sports science program can keep him healthy, we got ourselves a real gem

Walter Thurmond is another bullshit signing. If he was that good he would still be with Seattle, and the Giants.

This is looking a lot like a team put together by Paulman as General Manager…

Nick Foles described as “overjoyed he’s out of Philly”

Posted by Michael David Smith on March 11, 2015, 5:58 AM EDT

Nick Foles is glad to be out of Philadelphia.

Foles, the former Eagles quarterback who was traded to the Rams for Sam Bradford and draft picks yesterday, apparently wanted to leave. Sal Paolantonio of ESPN said on 97.5 The Fanatic that a Foles relative described Foles as ecstatic to no longer be an Eagle.

“I just talked to a member of Nick Foles’s family. He is absolutely pumped, overjoyed he’s out of Philly,” Paolantonio said.

There had been no previous reports of Foles clashing with coach Chip Kelly, but it’s become clear recently that Kelly wasn’t satisfied with any of his top offensive skill position players. Foles, LeSean McCoy and Jeremy Maclin are all leaving the team this week.

In St. Louis, Foles is going to a place where he’s expected to be the starter. After enduring months of speculation that he’d be replaced in Philadelphia by Marcus Mariota, it’s easy to see why Foles would be happier as the man in St. Louis.

Foles addressed the media for the first time since Week 9 and when asked about next year he said “I expect to be back here. I expect to be the quarterback. I love my teammates and I expect to be back out there leading them.” Expect another off-season of “Is Nick Foles the guy?”

1st of all, that’s all pure speculation….but if true….then it is exactly as I said.

He, and his family, has spent the last 6 months/year reading articles about how much he sucks. How team will never meet its potential with him because he can;t run, how he’s not fit for the O, and on and on and on…..

Even if he had ripped it up this year, I doubt severely he was going to resign into that environment. Would you?

Philly eats its own. Its a toxic place to be a sports star.

He’s not as ‘overjoyed’ as Chip Kelly that he’s out of Philly!

Chip looked at the film of the guy consistently missing open receivers, taking check downs when there where wide open receivers down the field, taking sacks and not getting rid of the ball, and going into states of pure panic against good defenses-turning the ball over, bad decisions

Chip is doing cartwheels that Foles is out of Philly

McCoy “cracking jokes” to Gore about not coming to Philly. Foles reportedly happy he’s gone. Maclin rolling out. Plenty of rumors vet FAs staying far away (not that I mind this)

Maybe because of the $$, maybe because of Kelly.

But I guarantee you the media in Philly plays a huge role in this.

No other city rips into everything like Philly does. Nothing is even close.

So far this year….dozens of articles, Philly dysfunctional. Eagles a soap opera. Power struggles. Chip Kelly is racist. Foles sucks. Foles is slow. Foles is clumsy. Maclin soft. Shady a bad tipper.

The sheer volume of “attack” articles is unbelievable and I guarantee you does not happen in other cities.

Do they occasionally criticise? Sure. But not like this.

The crying and whining about Nick Foles is truly incredible

Chip Kelly deserves to be bashed…but not over Nick Foles

Getting rid of Shady McCoy and his production and his positive production on the team is the dumb move by Chip!

Shady and DJax are the two worst moves by Chip Kelly

Getting rid of Foles gives him an opportunity to improve the team at the most important spot…

Sam Bradford is simply a try out because he is so injury prone, but he is from a talent standpoint a major, major upgrade from Nick Foles

Good move by Chip to take a shot…

Now we are improving the secondary with Maxwell and Thurmond…lets sign Rahim Moore and get rid of Nate Allen…an upgrade…a stronger defense add a receiver and get some offensive line upgrades…

We will be back in the thick of things!

Go Eagles!!

What the fuck do you mean….a “try out”

They can’t cut him and eat that $13million. He’s the starting QB of the Philadelphia Eagles.

If then was all about a “tryout” then they would have stayed with the guy you despise so much as it wouldn’t have cost $13 million dollars a 2nd and a 4th.

You think they’re giving up those picks and $13 million (both real $$ and a cap hit if cut) for what??

A training camp “try-out”??

Idiot

Your stupidity knows no bounds.

Bradford is the Eagles starting QB.

koolbreeze
koolbreeze
March 11, 2015 1:18 pm

Dumb Ass Vinniedaloser…stop whining!

Yes!! A ‘try out’…there is no long term commitment to Sam Bradford

He’s going to have to prove that he can stay healthy and play well

If he plays well he’s worth a 2nd and 4th and if he gets hurt you dont give that up

If the money doesn’t prevent you from signing other players…who cares…its one year not a long term deal…there is still plenty of room under the cap and if he stays healthy and plays well…its worth the 13 million because he has the talent

So fuck yeah…”try him out”…cut him if he doesn’t play well, keep him if he does play well, and if he gets hurt you dont give up a second rounder for him….

Not a bad deal at all, especially when you have unloaded the dead weight that Nick Foles represented

Addition by Subtraction….Fool Ass Vinnie

Yes Bradford is the Eagles starting QB and not damm Nick Foles

Go Eagles!!

Chip Kelly made a decision…a very good one…he knew that Nick Foles cant play so there was no need in spending another year looking at him. He knew that he wasn’t signing him to a long term deal.

Koolidiot….How can you be so wrong all the time????

Koolidiot: “If he plays well he’s worth a 2nd and 4th and if he gets hurt you don’t give that up”

Sorry fucknuts. the 2 (2016) and 4 (2015) from the eagles are GUARANTEED.

Why the hell do you think we’re all so pissed?

Eagles give those 2 picks up no matter what. Those picks are Gone.

IF Bradford gets hurt then the Eagles get a 3(2016) back and if he just sucks and doesn’t start more than 8 they get a 4. If he plays more than 8, the Eagles get nothing back.

So….does that change your idiotic “try out” statement???

Eagles are giving out $13 million dollars, a 2 and a 4 guaranteed.

Not for a tryout

To be the starting QB

Letting Shady go was a bad move…no question about it. Keeping Cooper is ridiculous..

Getting rid of Foles is a very good move!

If they have the cap space and they are not making any long term commitments to Bradford right now….who cares about the money if it doesn’t stop them in making moves to get free agents players or resign their own players.

There are very limited options at QB

It makes sense to take a shot with a talented gimp like Bradford, hope that him having an improved offensive line, coaching, and training regiment keeps him healthy. If he does stay healthy you have significantly upgraded the position

Chip Kelly knew that that he wasn’t keeping Nick Foles…he seen enough to know that he was not good enough.
Why not take a look at Sam Bradford…if he can’t play or gets hurt dont re-sign him and he doesn’t become an albatross on your neck. This is a better alternative than signing Nick Foles to a new long term deal and like I stated before: you couldn’t keep Nick Foles here on the last year of his deal And you can still draft a young Petty or Hundley and develop them

Good points Andrew…Chip has put his ass on the line…I hope it works out…I think getting rid of Shady and DJax are the dumbest moves that he has made…but he makes up a little for that by getting rid of Foles and not making him our Franchise QB…
For what’s available, and for our draft position…Chip Kelly is making the right moves for the QB position…its going to be very hard to trade up and get Mariota from 20…unless Mariota drops (a possibility) with this in mind Chip has secured some top rated talent with Bradford who he believes can run his system…he can draft a QB to develop…and hope to hold the fort down…keeping bum ass Nick Foles was not a credible option because Chip had no intention whatsoever to signing him to a long term deal…so rather than try to keep the kid on that bum ass rookie deal as a lame duck…he got rid of him

To all the overacting fans….go listen to what the man has just said. He makes a ton of sense, probably too much sense for the majority of this fan base.

Chip Kelly could sell pussy to a hooker particularly to the Philly faithful and gullible.

Folk WANT to beleive. Doesn’t make the deal or the gamble any less bullshit. For all our sakes I hope that shit he’s selling works out. Or it’s your stating QB Mark Sanchez…and we know what that looks like.

Big must be crying in his cups right now.

Ok… So I was ready to sell chip for a bag of chips but somehow after hearing him speak…I feel better..

I like the straight forward answers and they make me feel like I have more of a grasp of what is going on.

This team needs a PR gut that puts out information.

Makes sense to me–> I (me) watched a video of all of Bradford’s throws and saw the same thing Chip Pointed out..The ball was there most times but he had TONS of drops by bottom tier receivers.

We now need Targets for the passing game.

This is why we never win anything

The fanbase puts too much pressure on the players and coaches

Impatient, ranting, crying and whining, STFU

Keep driving them out of town with your bull crap

JH…I don’t get on you, but that is bullshit. The teams have not won hear due to poor drafting, poor talent evaluation in FA and the draft, poor management and poor coaching. It has nothing to do with the fans and pressure..stop it..please!

We’ve had plenty of talented teams

If you’re talking about the eagles alone, weve had numerous nfc east titles along with a number of trips to the nfc title game

We have had more than enough talent

The media, the fanbase, blogs like this, the radio stations here in philly are all the problem

Impatience is the main issue

I wanna win too but damn, let it happen

Back the players

Back the coaches

Show support

Yea theyre gonna make some errors here or there but this seems like its something different

Chip seems like hes a step ahead of everyone else

All I’m saying is support the movement instead of fighting all along the way

People are already talking about booing Bradford as he arrives here

WTF?

He hasnt even played a down yet

Give this thing a chance to play out

Damn

JH, we could shut the media down here and shut the fans up..or cheer like crazy..that will not lead to championships..the FO decisions and players determine that..with a little luck mixed in.

AND I like how everyone is forgetting….Bradford.Was.Going.To.Be.Released.

Chip wanted dude SOOOOOO Badly that he didn’t want to risk him ending up signing somewhere else.

AND as desperate as folk were for QBs he would have done more with Foles. You know like get a player for a position we needed and one that WASN’T coming off some major injury. Something.

Foles was bait for Bradford since the Rams realized how badly Kelly apparently wanted him.

Ya’ll keep believing that pimp talk. It apparently is NOT hard out here for a pimp.

SMDH.

Now that he’s made me feel like we aren’t giving up the draft for one guy, I feel a little better now. If he thinks SB is the man, than so be it. I’m glad that the R/O looks now to be a media/fan generated myth and we’ll roll with strong D/running game and a pocket QB with tempo and R/O as wrinkles. That’s all I hoped for in the1st place. Just wish SB had a bit more health on his resume. We shall see.

R/O as wrinkles?

Did you not watch the last 2 years of Kelly ball?

If r/o was going to be wrinkles why the hell weren’t they “wrinkles” when Mr. baby GIraffe was playing?

ALSO r/o CAN’T be just “wrinkles” when no one believes your QB is going to run. No one is going to bite on that shit with Bradford under center/shotgun.

It ain’t pimp talk tho. Everything he said was totally believable. Mariota or whoever comes in isnt a guarantee to ball out or not get hurt either. This man has a system that clearly works a he scouted a qb that fits everything he sees needed for a franchise qb and he’s not lyin about Bradford. He will ball out in this system IF he can stay healthy which isn’t guaranteed for ANYONE. Believe in ya coach…this dude ain’t no fool

With that logic we shoulda traded for RG3.

This is the system he made his bread and butter on. Read Option/Zone Read is his THANG.

And Gruden wants a more pocket QB.

So what he’s always oft injured. That shit could happen to anybody. Right? Right?

Chips system is not contingent on a running qb…he’s said it and his actions time and time again prove it….this offense will more resemble NE than it will Oregon
Was never in play for Marriotta
Hey EHL you mentioned that we did have specific terms on our bet…no Mariotta

You can beleive all that if you want to.

Once again…have you NOT watched the last 2 years of Ealges football.

Stop with the read option ish then. STOP. Because that doesn’t work with a slow footed QB – the defender has to BELEIVE the QB is going to run.

THAT’S my point. And he’s had TWO YEARS to make his system look like NE – it doesn’t – it won’t. Bradford will be out there on some r/o shit and we will be saying “WHY THE FUCK DOES HE KEEP CALLING THAT.”

You know like we’ve done with Foles playing.

If its true someone offered a 1st rounder for Bradford than the deal is actually quite fair. Let’s say Bradford is worth a first rounder and Foles is worth a second rounder. Trade Breakdown

Eagles Trade: 2nd round pick 2015, 4th round pick 2015, 2nd round pick 2016

Rams Trade: 1st round pick 2015, 5th round pick in 2015.

Wouldnt you say trading two 2nd round picks in separate drafts along with a 4th rounder is a good trade for a 1st round pick and 5th round pick? Based off this scenario I don’t think we got AS “fleeced” as everyone is saying.
