Eagles Draft Two Cornerbacks In The 6th Round

JaCoreyShepherd1The Eagles addressed their needs at the wide receiver position and in the defensive secondary.   In the sixth round, they drafted two cornerbacks, JaCorey Shepherd from Kansas and Randall Evans from Kansas State. They failed to do anything about their needs on the offensive line and that was because of a run on offensive linemen just before they were set to draft in the fourth round.  They’re going to be forced to rely on the depth they already have on the offensive line or maybe they’ll pull off a trade.

They drafted Shepherd as their first pick in the sixth round and he is a talented young cornerback, who isn’t quite fast enough as you would like.  He broke up 32 passes and picked off 5 passes while playing at Kansas his last two season.  Shepherd  is 5’11, 199, and ran a 4.65 and a 4.68 at his Pro Day.  Despite what seems to be a lack of big time speed, he plays faster and was very productive in college.  If he had run a 4.45 rather a 4.65, he would have been a first or second round draft pick because of the way he plays.

Shepherd has great ball skills.  He does a great job of attacking the football when it’s in the air.  The youngster uses angles very well to take away routes.  He gets into a wide receiver when he moves up to jam him on the line of scrimmage.

He attacks the football at its highest point and he will have a very good chance of making the football team.

Evans tested better than Shepherd, but his tape wasn’t quite as good.  He ran a 4.44 in the forty yard dash and was mainly a slot corner during his years at Kansas State.  He broke up 18 passes and picked off four passes during his career.  He plays the game with tremendous energy and looks like he could play the safety position because of the way he tackles.

He’s big enough because he stands 6’0″ and weighs 190 pounds.  Evans was third on his team in tackles with 64 last year, which says a lot.  Don’t be surprised if you see him lining up at the safety position.

Like Sherpherd, Evans has a good chance to make the football team.

I have gone on record saying Jacorey sheppard is the steal of the draft….this guy is a star…..he will be our starter next year but be a major contributor this year……the other guy is solid but probally won’t make team unless he flashes at safety……THE BEST PICK WE HAD WAS NOT EVEN DRAFTED DEVANTE DAVIS IS UDFA WHO WILL START THIS YEAR…..HE IS A MONSTER

I remember listening to sirus radio while players were at the combine and they were specifically talking about the eagles oline coach being on the field with the oline players. They went on to talk to him and he said there is a lot of guys who may not get drafted who will solid depth players with coaching. I hope something like this holds true. If chip can squeeze another year out of this line I think they will put up points again. Overall the defence is looking better through draft and FA. Let the coaching take over and see where it goes. I would say a B+ considering the picks we had.

Evans 6-0 at 190lbs is too thin for Safety
I see Eric Rowe as Safety with Malcolm Jenkins
Shepard to battle with Thurmond.Carroll as a nickel back in 2015

Devante Davis looks like dez Bryant! What’s the knock on this dude? Why wasn’t he drafted? Man I hope he makes the team! This offense is gonna be sick!

most likely he will have to convince the Special teams coach Dave Fipp of his talent to make the roster. Eagles carry players just because they are good special team players: Braman, Maragos, Maehl, Burton and Prosinski

The offense could be very scary if we had a qb

You called this off season the worst ever (added 2rbs) and yet you say the O would be scarry if we had a Qb. I don’t get it.

I’ll go on record and say this O led by Bradford (or even… Gump… Sanchez) will be better than last year. This is a very very good off season. If they could land a SS somehow… I’d say we position ourselves to make a deep playoff run. Sky is the limit for this team.

This is the worst offseason cause you were worst at wr talent wise depth wise were better
We’re worst at qb without a doubt
Same at te
I don’t know if we’re better at rb but I know we’re deeper
Don’t get me started on the oline
Dline is the same
Olb were worst unless marcus smith turns in aldon smith
Were deeper at ilb but I won’t say we’re better especially if they get rid of kendricks who is better than demeco
Cbs I guess are better I don’t know but I think maxwell is overpaid and overrated
Safety is still a big ?
So yes if you have a great qb on a weak team he can hide flaws that you have McNabb did it for yrs but If you have Mr. Glass on your team and somebody else that’s overpaid

Gloomy how are we worst at wide receiver? So you would pay a soft receiver like Jeremy maclin 11 mil? We drafted a wr who we can plug in right away and do the same thing if not better than maclin. We got 2 wrs that have a year under their belt now. Solid tight ends that can own the middle of the field and 3 rbs that can take one to the house at anytime and they all can catch. Don’t sleep on Ryan Matthews. He’s a better running back in my opinion than demarco. I see them both gettin over 1000 yards rushing. Last but not least the system works and is proven. This offense is freakin loaded dude and that’s real

Gloom is correct, at the most important position. Qb, the eagles are worst, at a minimum they are more unsettled than if foles were returnIng

Hey jakedog there blind they can’t see that…..that’s why I didn’t understand the Nelson agulora pick don’t get me wrong he’s a good player but knowing you have peg leg Bradford whynt protect hin with oline help I don’t even think he’s a great qb when healthy which is even more of a reason to go oline in the 1st Rd. Plus you added 2 rbs in the offseason and you already had sproles which makes even more sense to go oline nor to mention if Bradford goes down you have a qb who can’t throw over 15yds.

The big white elephant is Bradford

No one really knows how he will play after blowing out two knees even when healthy he was not as good as nick. But he’s got pedigree…..

GCobb, the Eagles may have got the steal of the draft in Shepherd. They say he fell because of his slow 40s – even though he plays faster. Perhaps, he ran slower because of his injured hammy. The kid can play.

This team is better than it was when the final whistle blew last year.

QB
+ 7 is now an upgrade to 9 if he is healthy
+ 3 is a Push mostly but a very good backup option (+ for year in system)
+ 11 is an Upgrade at the Clipboard position.
RB
+ 29 is more North South than 25 was
+ 24 is explosive when Healthy
= 43 ……..
WR
+ 81 (I expect him to be a #1 Outside Guy in year 2)
– 17 BUT Chip is the WR whisperer (see former players 10 and 18)
+ 13 Is faster than 14 (+ 2nd Year in Pros)
= 14 may not even make the 53 man roster
+ Rookies make strong push to clear out older players (Money Savers)
TE
= 87 (Getting Older but Strong)
= 86 (Should be a + by end of camp)
+ (4 players competing for 1 or 2 spots- 3 of them 6’5 250+)
LT
= 71..
RT
+ 65 (Hopefully for all 16+ this year)
LG
= 69 (Unless Cut)
RG
– 76 (Just a shade below the Toddfather)
C
+ 62 (Hoping for a Full Healthy Season)
OL (Back Ups)
= Most are returning with some experience and some UDFA’s to compete for jobs. (Back up linemen are un-positioned till Depth Chart time)

DE
= 91 Cox Smash
= 72 Pay me
DT
= 96 May be even stronger
DL Back ups
= All returning or new players pushing for time.
OLB
= 98 Swat, Sack and Sweat
– 55 (A Step down from Cole but may improve as new starter)
= Depth is same as last year with added competition.
ILB
= 95 Not traded (only 2 of these 3 start obviously)
+ 50 if Healthy and playing ILB (only 2 of these 3 start obviously)
= 59 if Healthy and starting/on team (only 2 of these 3 start obviously)
+ Depth is improved from last year (SEE ALSO NO CASEY MATTHEWS)
DB (CB and S)
+ Not even going to list them. If they are worse fire EVERYONE!
Special Teams
+ 1 2nd year as a Pro
= 8 Donnie Long ball
= 46 ( Does a young player try to lock out Houdini?)
