NFL.com tells us that the agent for Eagles left guard Evan Mathis was on the Joe Rose Show on CBS Miami and he was talking about the chances of the Eagles working out a deal with the Dolphins involving his client.

“I’ve been given permission by the Eagles to shop Evan.  We thought we had a trade with another team leading up to the draft. It was not the Dolphins.”

“It kind of fell through based on what the team did in the draft, but right now it doesn’t appear the Dolphins are a strong possibility.  We’ve never really got close on a trade with the Dolphins.”

In my opinion, many times the problem in the relationship between the player and the team is the agent.  Sometimes agents tell the truth, then there are other times when they lie.  I don’t know what the case is here.

Clearly, Mathis thinks he’s underpaid, yet he hasn’t been able to find a team that agrees with him. The agent says he had a deal on the table for him, but claims it fell through.

The Eagles can’t afford to lose Mathis.  They didn’t draft any offensive linemen in the draft, so if Mathis leaves it could get ugly.

This Mathis thing has the potential to turn very Andyish. This is 100% Chip’s fault if a focused Mathis isn’t ready or his replacement isn’t found.
