Report: Sixers Concerned Embiid Injury Is Career Threatening

JoelEmbiid10A source quoted on Philly.com is comparing Joel Embiid to a former NBA player, who saw his career come to an immediate end due to a similar foot injury.  The Sixers clearly have apprehension about this injury to Embiid.  Philly.com makes it very clear about where they stand.

“One source said the franchise is concerned that this setback is career-threatening.”

The surgery is expected to occur in the next 7 to 10 days.  After that’s done, Embiid and the Sixers will be forced to do nothing but wait, wait and wait.

“Like I said, there’s a chance his career could be over. This is like Yao Ming,” a source said, noting that Yao suffered a stress fracture in the navicular bone in 2008 and again in 2009. That injury forced him to retire in 2011.

“Some people are saying this is similar to Kevin Durant,” the source added. “But this is something more serious than what Kevin Durant has [a Jones fracture]. This is like the basketball [career killer].”

The Sixers know they could only string this on for so long.  One year has already been lost and now it looks like it will be at least another year on the shelf for Embiid.  Would they be willing to wait another year if’s that the case?  I doubt it, but maybe.  Any way, at some point, they’ll be forced to end it.

This is all a very tough time for Embiid, who remains jovial and upbeat, but he knows how important this next surgery is and the subsequent recovery time.  We all hope things work out for the Sixers and this youngster.

Embiid was a High-Risk/High Reward type of Pick, the 76ers rolled the dice and it doesn’t appear that it will work out for Embiid to ever be impact Player in the NBA which is a shame but not very surprising given his limited Playing experience and issues with both his Back & Feet causing him to miss time during his only Season at Kansas .. I thought he was a reach as a Top #5 Pick last Draft, but that’s just me for the above reasons, but surely I don’t want to see any player injured and denied an opportunity to compete at the highest level. The key now islet hi get healthy but don’t stand pat and expect much from him in terms as a real building block and move forward without him and I’d he’s able to play as a back-up come 2016-2017 then so be it, but with missing so much time and having limited experience to begin with, Embiidhas little to no Trade Value so you may as well see him get healthy where he can contribute by the end of when his Rookie Contract comes up..

So if true the year they TANKED and drafted him was a total failure.

It was a Risk which didn’t turn out well for the 76ers , not a Failure for they thought he would heal and be ready for this Season, which now turns out not to be able to happen.. No one knew this in June of 2014 Draft…

Fraud, you are going soft, should I call you son of Sam? Sixers tanked for wiggins, didn’t get him. The guy they got may never play… Um that would be the definition of failure.

Wiggins went #1, the 76ers couldn’t control that since they didn’t have the #1 Pick though they tried like crazy to get into the best position to get the First Selecetion.. You can Tank all you want and end up with the 4th/5th/6th Pick of the Draft.. Nothing is Guranteed..
They selected Embiid and it doesn’t appear that it will work out for them, such as life as a NBA Franchise.. Where’s Anthony Bennett by the way ?

I am not entirely sure if the Sixers are going to attempt tanking. They have some solid young players. They need to prove to potential free agents that they are trying to win.

Embiid is a setback, but it is not the end of the world because of Okafor this season and Saric next season. Embiid may recover because of the advent of new medical technology, but nothing is certain. I am willing to wait another year rather than experience the purgatory(and no direction at all) Sixers fans have dealt with from 2002-2013.

Where is lil Bron-Bron, with all the Hakeem Olajuwon 2.0 talk. Like I said, Greg
Oden 2.0! Hinkie the snake oil salesman, better thank his lucky stars, Okafor fell in his lap, because of the Lakers imbecilic brain fart! Sucks, because I was really looking forward to Embid-Okafor combo. Now we are stuck another year, with the out-of-place Dalembert/ Ratliff 2.0!!!! Soooo sad…….

I am so surprised so many have turned on DeAngelo Russell so fast, after I stated for months that he wasn’t what they wanted – I will be on next years NBA Draft show on 97.5, telling my man Anthony Gorgano, and others, I told you so.

I still wish we could have gotten Mudiay,- along with Okafor – when all the dumb GM’s passed on him, and let him drop to the Nuggets……..And he is KILLING the Summer League. He had 19 points, 10 assist, and 5 rebounds the other night – which has been the regular for him this summer. He is a much more superior player to DeAngelo Russell –

don’t trust any prospect from Ohio State….

The Sixers weren’t going to trade any of their assets to move up to get Mudiay but, that would have been a nice haul to dream about.

If Embiid was absolutely healthy, Noel would be the odd man out. Dario Saric would be the back up to Okafor, at PF, and Embiid would provide the Defense – although not as strong as Noels – but would make up for it on the Offensive end.

Noel can’t play SF either. So one of the 4 #1’s – perhaps Ben Simmons, or Jaylen Brown, could man the 3. That also makes him expendable, because they give you so much more than a shot blocker which is all he is…

Noel would have been expendable, and they would have the package to give to Denver for Mudiay….Noel is a defensive option only; nothing special about him. He would have been outta here

I get it Z.

But what’s happened is that Mudiay has even shown he is a better shooter than some thought as well – because I agree he already was superior in every other aspect of being an NBA Point Guard to Russell

– Russell was just the most popular amongst those who hadn’t really seen Mudiay, and had no knowledge he was already superior to him overall coming out of High School – and a much better NBA READY DEFENDER..

Just to add. The Lakers got sucked into the Steph Curry hype. Everyone thinks Russell is the second coming of Curry. If Curry didnt have the year he did, Russell would never have been a top 5 pick.

Really Tua14768? I have not heard or read 1 Comparison that Russell was or is the next coming of Stephen Curry.. Their Games and Skill Sets are very different, Curry was a Born Shooter from the time he was in the cradle and has jumped into the Elite Status by improving his Ball Skills & Passing Skills since coming into the NBA… Russell is not that kind of Shooter and doesn’t move real well without the Ball as Curry always has… Russell is a facilitator and not a finisher at his young stage of his Career…

Knicks got better this offseason will be better and have way more talent than my bottom 5 same goes with nets.

in the court of public opinion he will probably be behind harden and curry at years end unless the pelicans are winning. However in real life Lebron and him are neck and neck as real life best player, obviously james gets the nod over him now. but if healthy anthony davis will be the best player in the game this year, the kid is unstoppable

Talent wise Anthony Davis is the best player in the league behind Lebron. There is no physical or skill wise player with the ability to play and guard multiple positions with room to grow. When the baton is passed from Lebron Anthony Davis will be picking it up.

Mudiay is beyond raw still and that jumper is HIDEOUS. Hes got upside but he isnt a lock. Teams will play him under on the pick and roll and force him into jumpers. Hes a physical stud and has the tools but acting like he is polished at anything is BEYOND a stretch.

The one thing that he is showing well is that he isnt dumb and wont force anything and is looking to pass first which is a big change from the scouting reports.

Russell is going to struggle with Clarkson in the backcourt for a bit and how they will both defer to Kobe. However his talent is still there.

Murray looks like another combo guard scorer at Kentucky. I dont see him as a pure point and I dont think he will get to run alot of point at Kentucky because they have a couple guys there right now if Im not mistaken. He will get the chance to get playing time and primarily be asked to score.

As for Dunn….my view on most upper classmen now is they pretty much are what they are and are back end of draft second round prospects. Hes a solid player but I dont see anything special IMO.

Also as far as PG goes I am starting the Mike Conley to the Sixers train right now. If the bigs(Noel/Okafor) progress like I think they will he would be a great fit. One of the rare true PGs in the game that can score and run offense.

Conley is a free agent next year and will be available. Don’t even mind if the Sixers overpay. He would finally get benefit of doubt in East behind Irving and Wall he’s just as good as everyone else and already knows how to mesh with big men.

Conley at PG and the draft will bring a wing player with skill.

Wilbekin will be hard pressed to make the team IMO if reports of them being interested in Norris Cole are true. With signing of Pierre Jackson, their love for Isiah Canaan(which I will hold judgement now with the adding Okafor and the need for shooting) Wroten I think he will get designated to their D-League team and will be a first call up if for injuries etc. I think with Jordan McRae looking like crap they are probably still looking for another shooter at the 2 spot behind Stauskas (Jason Richardson may return).

Diddy I tend to bullish on guard play in the summer league. Guys like Jon Salmons and Von Wafer use to regularly go nuts in summer league…which is primarily a guard league. If I am Sixers I would definitely sign him to the DLeague team and keep him there for injury purposes. If he was 6-4 6-6 I think he would be a lock at the combo guard spot. He has a shot though.

I like Mudiay…dont see him in the same breath as Russell Westbrook(who is a freak at pg and scoring wise not comparable). I do think he will incorporate better as a passing PG early on while he works on that jumper. I see him as the athletic version of Marcus Smart.

The Nuggest are a team that is built to run so hopefully they keep him on the floor spread out with bigs etc running the wings. If they slow down that is where he struggle the most. Nuggets are a great landing spot for him. Kind of a perfect fit.

Two players to watch for the Sixers in the rumor are Norris Cole and Ty Lawson.

Cole would be a steady two year option that Sixers could offer 2 yr 10mil little bit above average of what he could get from New Orleans and he would be a trade chip asset going into year 2.

Ty Lawson watch will be if he gets waived. If he does get waived only Portland and Sixers have the funds to absorb him whole and for the Sixers it would bring them to the salary cap floor this year.

On the salary cap floor note….the Sixers could be in play for the Cavs and Brandon Haywoods 12 million dollar deal. If the Cavs cant find a decent trade they will just move Haywood for the trade exception it creates for them. For the Sixers it hits the floor for them.
