ESPN Herm Edwards: We don’t know what we’re getting in Sam Bradford

SamBradford41Former New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs head coach and now ESPN NFL analyst Herm Edwards was on CSNPhilly.com yesterday and he talked about Eagles new quarterback Sam Bradford.

First of all, the great thing about Herm is the fact that he tells it like it is.  The former Eagles player let it be known that he was rooting for Bradford.

“I just want him to stay healthy because I liked Sam coming out of college”, Edwards said.  “I really did.  I thought this guy was going to have a nice career in our league.  I didn’t know whether he was going to be a Hall-of-Famer.  But I just thought watching him in college, he had nice arm.”

Herm who played cornerback on the same side of the Eagles defense with me years ago when both of us were playing for the Birds said something which is really eye-opening.

“He hasn’t played enough football in the last two or three years to know what we’re getting”, Edwards said about Bradford and that was an eye-opening statement.

Remember Kurt Warner talked about how Bradford needs to regain his confidence in throwing the ball downfield and not being a  “Check down Charlie” quarterback who only throws the ball short to his underneath receivers.

Bottom line we have no idea what we’re getting in Bradford.

Edwards was asked whether Bradford should be considered a “Franchise quarterback”.  He seemed put off by the question.  The former head coach made it very clear that Bradford had in no way achieved “Franchise quarterback” status because he hasn’t been on the field.  He didn’t even name any “Franchise quarterbacks”, he just finished his comments by simply saying, “We know who they are”.

I’ll add to that we know who they aren’t as well.

Thankfully in two weeks, we’ll start finding out what we have.

Really having a hard time with this decision…. Couple this with his long list of injuries and it’s almost a certainty that Sanchez will be behind center for most of the season.

i know what are getting. a damaged goods cripple who may or may not be the starter for an accomplished NFL starting qb who exceeded all expectations and a 2nd round pick. and if he does start his track record when he has played tells he wont be shit and will be gone at years end. chip got ripped off and as it looks at this moment he traded a starting nfl qb and a 2nd round pick for a backup or IR qb
