Eagles Podcast: State Of The Eagles, Redskins Preview

SamBradfordvsCowboys1

The Philadelphia Eagles are coming off of their third blowout loss in the last five games.

With a do-or-die game looming against the Washington Redskins, myself and Jeff Kolsky weigh in on the team’s most recent loss, discuss some of the problems that Chip Kelly will have to overcome to get the Eagles going in the right direction again after the season, and also preview Saturday’s game against Washington.

Section215.com, another Philadelphia sports website that both Jeff and I also contribute to, is the primary host for the podcast, but you can also listen to or download it through Soundcloud below.

Eagles have Approx $26-$27 Million of Cap Space
They Have 17 Current Players who will be Free-Agents
They will have 6-7 Draft Picks ..
Eagles Sign QB Sam Bradford and Spend $15-$18 Million of that Cap Space and they are screwed in improving the other areas of the Team
You need to have about $6-$8 Million saved for the Draft and Undrafted Free-Agents
I am not sure how they even have 90 Players into Camp next Summer

Here is a list current Players who will have to be Released to free up more $$$ to make up for the bad Deals for Murray, Maxwell, Graham & Kendricks

Offense
TE B Celek, WR R Cooper, LT J Peters, RB D Sproles

Defense
LB D Ryans,

Free-Agents that need to re-Signed
DB Walt Thurmond

First off they will need to find a way to keep Sproles or they have no offense at all.

2nd, change to a 4-3 defense and they will have an easier time filling out positions.

Darren Sproles is already under Contract at $4.5 Million for the 2016 Season,
but they need to Trade him while he has Trade Value a Draft Pick in Return and Trade him to a Team with a Chance to Win a Super Bowl..
Eagles have way too much $$$ tied up with their Aging RB Corps
and likely are stuck with DeMarco Murray unless they can work out a Buy-out which is unlikely…
D Murray earns $8 Million in 2016 but a Cap Hit of $13Million if Released
R Matthews earns $4 Million in 2016 with a Cap Hit of $3 Million if Released
D Sproles Earns $4 Million in 2016 with a Cap Hit of $1 Million if Released

That’s $16 Million in 2016 Salary and a whopping $17 Million if these Players are Released… You can’t release them all….
Keep Murray,Matthews,Barner and Draft a young RB,

It is what it is….

Oh, I know the cap situation, but I also know that Chip has stripped his offensive cupboard bare. He has to know that Sproles is really the only HR hitter that he has.

This will all depend on the QB situation. They can’t get into a bad contract with Bradford. He doesn’t deserve the going rate for a vet QB. He is just an average guy and less than that in this offense.

I would rather see them draft a QB next year and start over. But then again, they could also use an actual GM too.

The Eagles need to develop a young Corp of Weapons ..
Ertz, Matthews, hopefully Agholor and Huff ?? (Yikes)
but 33 Year Old Darren Sproles does this Team with so many issues any good for 2016.. Trade Him to a Team where he can help them Win a Super Bowl.. Eagles will be very fortunate to Win 7-8 Games in 2016 and will need to start getting younger and develop other Players..
Can Barner/Huff Return Punts?

Veteran Players to Cut with the Most Salary Cap Savings

QB M Sanchez due $5.5 Million in 2016 – $2 Million Cap Hit if Released
Safety M Jenkins due to Earn $7.166 in 2016 – $1.66 Million if Released
TE B Celek due to Earn $5 Million in 2016 – Has Zero Cap Hit if Released
RB D Sproles due to Earn $4.5 Million in 2016 – Cap Hit of $1 Million
LB D Ryans due to Earn $4.5 Million in 2016 – Cap Hit of only $1 Million
Safety C Maragos to Earn $1.7 Million in 2016 – Cap Hit of 200K If Released
Punter D Jones to Earn $2.085 Million in 2016 – Cap HIt of 333K if Released

By Releasing all these Players Above would have a Net Savings of Approx
$24 Million in their Cap Space

Right now with th Committed 2016 Contracts/Bonus’s, etc the Eagles have
about $125 Million of the $150 Allowed for Players Contract and this $125 does not include Eagles Free-Agents which there are 17 of them including Sam Bradford, Matt Tobin, C Thornton, V Curry, W Thurmond, N Carrol, etc,etc..

Just think if Eagles/Kelly Sign QB Sam Bradford at a $15-$18-$20 Range
then they will not be able to afford the Players I listed above and a Bradford Deal would take up most of the Cap Space and you have to allow for $5-$7 Million for Draft Picks and Undrafted Free-Agents after the Draft let alone any new Free-Agents the Team wants to pursue..
Chip Kelly in 1 Off-Season tied the hands of the Organization for the next 2 Off-Seasons with his All-In approach with the wrong Players at Bad Contracts.. A complete disaster of Roster Management by Chip KElly as some of us have been bitching about since last Spring… This is not how you improve a 10 Win Team that’s main goal last Off-Season should have been to fix the Defense, and to add Quality Youth to the OL & WR & RB Positions
Instead, they got Older, Stuck with Bad Contracts and still failed to address the OL & Pass Rusher and struck out at WR…. Just Brutal…..

I can’t disagree with your assessment here.

They can’t sign Bradford. He is just not good enough for that kind of money especially with the significant injury risk involved.

I think they should be honest with themselves and the Fans and do a complete Rebuild Job and Gut this Team and Rebuild from the ground up..
By doing this now when the NFC East is Weak is the best time to do this
Romo doesn;t have much time left in Cowboyland and they will have to find a QB, the Giants are a mess Defensively and will have to rely on aging Eli Manning and Washington is in the Best Shape age and talent wise as they have a lot of good young Players that they have drafted the last few seasons but its not like they are a dominant Team by any measure..
So a complete gutting out this Roster and Aging Veterans to get young, more athletic and a QB of the Future and the Eagles can complete about by 2018, doing this Band-Aid Approach and hit and misses with 6-8-10 Free-Agents every years will keep this Franchise in the middle of the Pack or lower every Season..
The Time to Rebuild is right now …

So if this means Goodbye to Brent Celek, Darren Sproles, Demeco Ryans,
Sam Bradford, Nolan Carroll, Then so be it … Let these Veterans go hook up with other Teams…

I agree- The Franchise has never been the Same after those 2 Back-to-Back Ass Whooping’s from the Dallas Cowboys to end the 2009 Season
24-0 in the last Game of the Season to determine Home Field for Playoffs
Then 34-14 in the Wild-Card Game at Dallas

McNabb was Never the same, Coach Andy Reid was Never the same
The Eagles Defense went Downhill from this point forward…
Eagles Got Soft, Crowds became Wine and Cheese heads at the New Linc and Philly Football and Homefield Advantage just went by teh wayside

During the Chip Kelly ERA, the Eagles have a Better Record on the Road then they do at Home.. Isn’t that F’d Up….

This Franchise is Screwed — Lurie needs to Sell..

Yeah a pg who benched for perennial all-star and 1st ballot hof(sarc) Jerryd Bayless because yet again, like last year, he’s proven to be a turnover machine who can’t shoot. The Bucks fan-base have already resigned themselves to the fact that ownership phucced up by Brandon Knight and acquiring MCW. The bucks were one of the top teams in the east last year well above .500 with impressive wins against quality opponents. They made one move that saw them fall from a top team to cellar dwellar. care to guess what move that was? And he’s repeating the same poor play this year. He has vastly better players around him. this was something his defenders said would improve his turnovers and shooting % by not having to shoulder the load like he did here. Well year 2 and he’s worst. He’s a good kid who has major limitations and is not a difference maker.

Stop trolling and apply some of the same rational thought process when you were defending the Phillies. You have become worst than what you accused Dcar and fraudman of. At least with baseball you appeared to know the sport.

Jerry Colangelo making a statement

Hinkie decided to let Smith walk but kept Wroten who always has played erratic and turnover happy

Hes not a true pg

I said on here that Ish Smith was a true pg and that his game reminded me of Rajon Rondo

He has been playing very well for the pelicans

Solid trade for Colangelo and setting the tone moving forward

Is Sam Hinkie that bad in judging NBA Talent when he had Ish Smith on the 76ers Roster for the Final 25 Games last Season and could have signed him for chump change after the Season was over but failed to do while adding no experience to the most important Position on the Team which is a PG.. Now Colangelo has to Trade 2 2nd Round Assets that Hinkie was stockpiling… This move is more an indictment of Sam Hinkies Ability to put together a NBA Roster than anything else..
No other Teams even want to talk let alone Deal with Sam Hinkie who just needs to be fired

and how bright is Colangelo to have to give up 2 second round picks for a developmental league player, who barely comes off the bench for the pelicans???

He isn’t making any statements…

The statement I heard that is absolute rhino crap is that Ish Smith’s game is like Rondo. JH, do you ever think about what you’re saying sometimes?? – That is a truly asinine statement.

They don’t have to over think it. If they can draft Simmons, and a point guard in the draft. Attempt to sign Giannis Adetkumbo, and Donotas Montejunas to Free agent contracts for 2016 –

Russell Westbrook will be a free agent in 2017 – attempt to trade perhaps a number 1 this year, and a future #1 in 2017 – or wait until 2017 for the bidding war – to bring him here a sign him to a max contract.

2017 they will still be in the lottery, and can swap picks with the Kings, and have the right to the Lakers #1 pick –

If they can parlay that into Josh Jackson, Terrance Ferguson, and EC Matthews we’ve now put together a Championship nucleus.

Colangelo will draft someone who won’t come close to making the impact that he thinks, because I say he’ll prove himself to be out of touch – because he was never all that as a GM in the first place.

Yea Colangelo was never the GM that Cliff COULD’VE been right?!

What a joke

Look at his track record it speaks for itself

The only track record you have can be found on Gcobb.com

And it’s not a very good one I might add..

Your outrageous trade proposals and FA pipe dream signings can all be found in the archives of gcobb.com for our humor

You haven’t proven anything other than being a fake Jehovah’s Witness, using profanity (I know people that are Jehovah’s Witnesses and they never curse or act like you)

So keep your crap to yourself

And btw, I was the one on here trying to trade for Durant or Westbrook saying since durants deal is almost up now would be a good time to trade for him at the deadline or trade for Westbrook in the last year of his deal, I’ve been saying this for awhile on here.. keep up

I also said we could potentially lure Durant to Philly during the summer with the Colangelo-USA Basketball-Durant connection

Keep up clown

Don’t come on here like you came up with that

and all that being said, he still won’t really bring anything to this franchise.

All that need to be done is bring in the right talent….Will he do it??

Do you base what needs to be done – and doing it to the success of the franchise – on his past (whatever) accomplishments you rave about??

I say one has nothing to do with the other.

You must have me confused with DCar in terms of the language…you haven’t heard me say anything profane out side kiss my ass…

If you have please cut, and paste…..

All, and all you’re not smarter than I JH – BTW,How are Dante Exum, and Tyler Ennis doing????

Ciggy, we view reactions like that as a compliment.

The Bible says Just as the days of Noah were, so the presence of the Son of man will be. 38 For as they were in those days before the Flood, eating and drinking, men marrying and women being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, 39 and they took no note until the Flood came and swept them all away, so the presence of the Son of man will be.

They also took no note – but that was their choice – and we respect that

We NEVER come to change anyone views, but rather re-introduce them to God through God’s Word. We do not attempt to convert – but encourage, and provide comfort from the scriptures.

The Organization grows 1.5 million every year – someone is listening, and benefiting despite the apathetic responses of some….we expect responses like that, and pray for those who feel that way.

LOL….No, It’s not a pretend religion….It’s God’s true organization

I still love you Ciggy.

Well Ciggy, one by law we have the right, but you also have the right to say how you feel, and we will respect that…..any police officer will tell you that. We’ve one court cases over the centuries emphasizing that, with freedom of religion, and preaching is part of that commission

That being said you may not always feel that way, in time, seeing that all we preached about, has come to fruition, and we want you to live, so we’ll continue to try to warn you, so you cannot say you weren’t informed when the time comes for your accounting.

2nd – you don’t speak for all your neighbors. Again we find INTERESTED people EVERYDAY in every neighborhood we preach in. Mostly because many like yourself are tired of the inexcusable nonsense that happens in the churches – That the Bible says God will destroy for misleading so many that will also be destroyed for trusting them –

We are also informed by many when they are interested as well. Many people in good conscience know what we teach is truth – they just find in difficult to cease individual habits, beliefs, and lifestyles – I did at one time myself.

In fact, when the twin towers were hit on 9/11, MILLIONS in new York swarmed, and banged on the front gate of the Watchtower Headquarters begging to be reconciled to God – Many who felt just like yourself at one time – but not anymore.

We’re peaceful, law abiding, tax paying citizens, commissioned by God to do the same work that Jesus did when he was on the earth – and to make sure our teaching is consistent with the scriptures unlike the Churches today. We, nor I have anything to apologize, for , or to be ashamed of.
