Eagles Reportedly Trying To Extend Fletcher Cox, Vinny Curry

FletcherCoxvsBills1The 2015 season has ended, and the Eagles may already be trying to make some moves to lock up their own before free agency.

According to Mark Eckel of NJ.com, the team is already in negotiations with both Fletcher Cox and Vinny Curry about contract extensions.

The team reportedly already has a firm offer to Curry on the table, though the defensive end is unsure whether or not he’ll accept it or test free agency.

I’m encouraged to hear that the team is making efforts to keep both of these players in place. I thought it was interesting that Jeffrey Lurie specifically mentioned Curry at his press conference along with some of the other top players on the team.

“The tempo was unique, but the kinds of players, whether it’s Darren Sproles, DeMarco Murray, Sam Bradford, Vinny Curry, you name it,” he said. “It remains to be seen if we run a high-tempo type of offense. That will be determined by the new head coach. But I don’t see any players on the roster that one would say would be only a fit for a Chip Kelly-team, not at all. So we have to increase the talent level and increase the performance level of those we have. That’s the key, it’s not a fit system type of situation.”

When I heard Lurie say that, the sense I got was that Curry was a guy the organization wanted to keep around.

Curry would be best suited for a 4-3 system, so this may also indicate that Lurie and his search crew are looking for a coach that will return that style of defense.

Extending Fletcher Cox is a move that absolutely has to happen at some point. He’s been the best, and most consistent member of the defense. And he could become even better if the team does go back to 4-3 and slides him to his natural position on the inside.

Vinny Curry was misused by Billy Davis. I think he had the potential to be one of the top 10 pass rushers these last 3 years if we hadn’t switched to a 3-4 defense when Chip was hired.

I wouldn’t blame the guy for wanting a fresh start elsewhere, seeing how Chip/Davis squandered his talents. I think he was an Eagles fan growing up, so maybe that helps convince him to give us another chance.

mhenski…everyone will be fired when they hire a new coach. They may talk the new guy into keeping Shurmur and some of the offensive assistants but everyone on defense is toast. Azzinaro is Chip’s buddy, the LBs coaches blow. The secondary coach might get an interview. The Eagles secondary is really not atrocious. They have no pass rush because of Davis and there are typically SEVEN guys in coverage not just the four DBs. Our LBs can’t cover for shit!! They are horrendous in coverage to the man and that’s why we left the middle of the field open all day long.

I actually saw Chip for the first time since he moved into Haddonfield. It was on Wednesday, the day after he got canned. Him and his girlfriend were out in their side driveway moving items from one SUV to another… There has been no activity since.

I heard that Les Bowen, the sports writer, knocked on Chip’s door on the night he got fired – the girlfriend sent Les away.

By Tavistock off Warwick or off Kings Hwy, or the West End Blvd or by the old Pennypacker Park (at least that’s what we called it..)
The Coastline closed down too… WTF… Lots of Drunken Thursday Ladies Nights back in the Day in 80’s at that Place… Ha…

I remember you telling me that you used to work in Haddonfield – when we were talking about Harry Gamble. Chip lives on a street that runs parallel to Kings Hwy – a couple blocks over from Kings Hwy. Near the intersection of Kings Hwy and Chews Landing Rd.

Yeah, I think this was the final weekend at The Coastline. I know they had a big new years eve party.

HaveaCigar’s Coach Mike McCoy and GM Telesco will both be coming back with the San Diego Chargers in 2016, but will have to make some big improvements to remain beyond the 2016 Season per Ownership

How Jeff Fisher keeps a Job in the NFL is beyond me..
Chargers were snake bit this Season with Injuries but McCoy will need a big turn around in 2016 or he will be out of a Job..
