The Pederson Plan: Wide Receiver

NelsonAgholor15Doug Pederson said the 2015 season was invaluable for how much he learned, which ultimately paved the way for him to become a head coach. One area he has yet to touch on was the value and benefit of having a true #1 wide receiver in an offense.

In 2014, not a single Kansas City wide receiver recorded a touchdown. When the Chiefs signed ex-Eagle Jeremy Maclin free agency during the 2015 off season, Eagle fans were interested with how he would produce with a quarterback like Alex Smith. The results exceeded my personal expectations. Maclin finished with 87 receptions, for 1,088 yards and 8 touchdowns. Maclin gave the Kansas City offense a guy that could stretch the field, grab the attention of defenders and force the double team coverage.

Do the Eagles have a guy that can stretch the field currently on the roster? If the answer is based on what was seen in 2015, the answer is “no.”

Josh Huff flashes small glimpses of speed, but his route running is brutal to watch and his hand-eye coordination is below average. Nelson Agholor, I’m not sure what went wrong in his rookie season. I’m hoping the disappointing stats are a combination of the injury that lingered for several weeks, the play-calling by Chip, or simply because of the rookie learning curve. I was high on Agholor as far as his “NFL ready” skillset, I’m still confident that he will be an impactful player. I’m still trying to figure out what role he is best suited for, I anticipate Pederson trying to plug him as the “X” receiver with the current depth chart.

Jordan Mathews is the best receiver on the team. He is an all-around good wide receiver, practices extremely hard and says all the right things. Playing the majority of his snaps as a slot receiver, there is certainly some uneasiness with thinking that he has the tools to be an outside receiver in the league.

Most refer to his speed, the fact that it’s lacking the next gear necessary to win those 1:1 battles with opposing cornerbacks. I won’t disagree with those who state that and it’s likely we will find out in 2016 if that notion is true or not. There are plenty of ways to keep Mathews involved in the passing game and his number of targets increasing heading into his third year. He came on strong in the second half of both his rookie and sophomore season, and although he may not consider himself as the #1 wide receiver on the roster, by default, he is until another guy is added to change that.

Could the Eagle find help in free agency? Yes, but the names are not going to wow the fan base. There are a few I would consider. Mohamed Sanu (CIN), Rueben Randle (NYG), Travis Benjamin (CLE) and Rishard Matthews (MIA) would all provide the Eagles with a veteran presence; and an immediate upgrade to Josh Huff as the Eagles third receiver.

Benjamin would be my guy, but I have the feeling new Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson will make every effort to resign Benjamin. I also look for Jackson to bring in a guy that he is familiar from his time in Cincinnati, so I’m going to cross Sanu off my list.

Randle is a guy that has good size, showed flashes in 2014 as a receiver when Victor Cruz was lost for the season. He also has been known to have mental lapses and dropped catches, something that plagued the offense in 2015.

The Dolphins are both strapped with salary space and already have a solid trio at the position group, so I certainly see Matthews signing elsewhere. I think Rishard Matthews would complement Agholor and Jordan Matthews. He wouldn’t cost a lot, and the Eagles could turn their focus onto the 2017 free agent class, that is absolutely loaded in terms of talent.

I’m not screaming for the Eagles to sign any of these guys. I recognize that the opportunity to improve the wide receiver situation in Philadelphia is by no means ideal with what is available. I think Huff needs a solid veteran, like a Jason Avant, but also new receivers coach Greg Lewis to help him with the mental part of excelling at the professional level. When I watch Huff, it’s almost as if has no idea of what the play is, which could be true, but I’d like for a more traditional coach like Pederson to make the final call.

With regards to drafting a receiver, day three at the earliest would be how I would address the position group. Pederson had nothing to do with the past two seasons in Philadelphia where veteran playmakers were either cut or not resigned. He had nothing to do with the receivers drafted in the first, second and third round in the last two drafts. I’m not a huge fan of the incoming wide receiver class, but hopefully the Eagles can find a guy day three who can contribute. Stefon Diggs who was taken in the 5th round of the 2015 draft by the Minnesota Vikings, is there a guy out there that the Eagles could find?

I have to be honest, it really bothers me how mediocre the wide receiving core has become for the Philadelphia Eagles. The playmaking ability of Jackson and Maclin are benefiting other teams, while the fan base is holding onto any remaining hope that Josh Huff can be a reliable third/fourth receiver, Agholor is going to bounce back in year two and Jordan Mathews will excel outside of the slot role.

I know for me, the hardest part is seeing the contribution from guys like Martavis Bryant and John Brown who many of us highlighted as guys for the Eagles to target in the mid rounds of the 2014 draft. Huff was a guy that only became a discussion point because he played collegiately at Oregon, but his pre-draft grade was somewhere in the 5th-6th round.

Here are my thoughts.

If the Eagles can rely on the run, involve Ertz in the passing game the same way the Chiefs used Travis Kelce, I feel with the addition of a respectable veteran to compliment what the Eagles already have at receiver, the offense will be alright in 2016.

get rid of Huff’ he sucks.

Pray DeSean Jackson is a cap casualty. Pursue bringing Josh Gordon, and in the draft 4th – 5th round my choice is Corey Davis – Western Michigan 6-3 216 4.48……mission accomplished

relax, I’m thinking of publishing an “IMPACT LIST” of prospects, maybe about 25 players, that will be exclusively “MINE” here on the comment section of GCOBB. I usually like to put it out their before the combine so the no nothings don’t steal “MY GUYS:”

Irish, the smartest of all the bloggers who responded.

If you’ve noticed, Howie is trying to put his team back together, and wouldn’t hesitate to bring back DeSean if he could.

If Josh Gordon had 165 yards and 2 TD’s in 12 out of 16 games for the Eagles, all of the fickle minded would forget all about the past.

I disagree with all except the smartest guy responding Irish….I’ve Always said that….

Desean? That ship has sailed.

Besides…if he gets cut/released by the Skins, that will be the second team that’s flat out released the guy over the past 3 seasons.

Kinda strange a player so “great” is on the verge of being cut by his second team don’t you think?

As for Josh Gordon…..he hasn’t even been re-instated yet, and if he is, is he not still a Cleveland Brown?

Josh Norman looked like Malcolm Jenkins yesterday dropping interceptions, at least 2 drops. That one Panther WR Cotchery dropped like 3 passes yesterday. Missed opportunities.

If and this is a big if…..but if L Treadwell is there you Have to take him. Pair him up with jordan, Nelson, huff, and our tight ends and this offense will be night and day with Sam under center with a more methodical approach. There is no way the drop plague hits us as hard this up Comin season. Improved defense under Jim Schwartz and go online in rounds 3 and 4 along with maybe 2 free agents and Sam will be fine.

We have to find a way to
Resign this guy or we will be in trouble. He’s still so young and gives us by far the best chance at stability at the position

” There is no way the drop plague hits us as hard this up Comin season.”

Again, Eagles were credited with 42 drops this year. While that is an unusually high number, and it is pretty much a mathematical guarantee that the Eagles will fall back to the NFL average, you better not get too excited.

NFL “drop” average is 30. TI know it is difficult for the Sam Cutler fans in here to understand, but other teams drop the ball too!!!

The Eagles averaged 0.75 more drops per game than the average NFL team. Bad, but if you really think that those extra 12 drops is what made Jay Bradford bad, you’re looking at the wrong thing.

Typical of Vinniedafool to dismiss such a significant statistic. When you lead the league in dropped passes it has a significant impact on the Quarterback, on the team…even Vinniedafool has to begrudgingly admit:
“Again, Eagles were credited with 42 drops this year…..that is an unusually high number”

It sure is a very high number..

Key third down plays…drops

Balls bouncing off of the hands of our receivers into the hands of defenders…like the critical play in the Atlanta game where instead of keeping the drive alive…Matthews drops the ball and is intercepted.

The Eagles drops included 24 third down passes! Those are drive killers that directly impacts your ability to win the game!

It is totally ridiculous to dismiss these high number of drops which leads the league including the drops that significantly impact your third down conversion rate…

The drops was a major factor in the Eagles losing games this year, no serious assessment of the Eagles can fail to take this key statistic into serious consideration!

What makes that stat even worse is that the Eagles had the worst time of possession on offense in the league.

“Bradford is not good” I’m not going to argue how qualified you are to make that judgement, but suffice to say he is better than any other options currently available. You wish to draft and groom the QB of the future without any assurance who will be available, whether they will be the right choice, or how long it might take to groom them. Ask the Raiders, Browns, and Jets. All the time you are subjugating the fan base to a boring unwatchable product (bad business). Clearly the smart move, without immature emotion, is to secure Bradford for a short time while drafting and hopefully grooming a longer term answer. That’s the smart play.

Stop using logic in your posts sir, Nicky Foles is coming back to save us. He has “promise” and that is far different than potential. Besides… Why pay starter money for a starter when you can just draft the 3rd or 4th qb in the draft and watch him developed for 3 years? What we need to get us to the SB is a stop gap qb.

I don’t get it..he hasn’t even hit age 30 yet. Missing two years makes him even younger in terms of playing. A qb can hit their prime in there 30 a to mid 30s. Epsiecially when your not a elite mobile threat. Tare ur best chance with Sam Considering he is all u got and want to “win now”

CT, in terms of medical and playing, the injuries Bradford has accumulated during his career, pro and collegiate makes him older, there is no getting around that. I understand your logic in terms of missing games and taking a pounding, you’re thinking he is 32 games more fresh, however, the types of injuries he has experienced has accelerated his body aging. He is 28, but in terms of the effect on his knees and shoulder due to wear and tear and tears and separation he is much older. I can guarantee part of the reason Bradford was considering retirement was due to the aches and pains he feels as well as the the potential for re-injuring himself. He feels older than what his age would indicate. One more injury that would cause him to miss a season would drive him he to hang the cleats up.

Man haven’t we learned anything from the Super Bowl. Dominate Defenses WIN in the NFL Period. An efficient offense, with a solid running game will get the job done. Many Superbowl champions have won this way. Sign Bradford, fix the offensive line and start drafting play makers on the defensive side of the ball. After that it’s up to the coaching staff to manage the game and game plan. Lets go Eagles… get it done, I don’t have much longer on this earth.

Sam Bradford’s days with Eagles are guaranteed over

BY ANGELO CATALDI
PhillyVoice Contributor

Sam Bradford will not be an Eagle next season. I guarantee it.

Despite the lack of an established quarterback, the team will not re-sign him to a long-term contract, and it will not place the franchise tag on him, either. In a few weeks, Bradford will be free to sign a deal with any team in the NFL. His legacy with the Eagles will be one lost season.

How can I be so sure of this? Well, after 40 years in the media, I have an advanced degree in sports logic. If you follow my thinking with an open mind, the next 500 words should convince you I’m right.

The first place to look for clues of the Eagles’ intentions is the new (and old) power broker in the organization, Howie Roseman. There are very few people in sports easier to read that Roseman, whose decisions are always – without exception – designed to place himself in the most favorable light.

That’s why the team kept first-round bust Danny Watkins for so long, why Roseman led a public campaign to justify another first-round disaster, Marcus Smith; and why he never brings up his worst calamity, the Dream Team debacle. Since he toppled Joe Banner from power, Roseman’s only goal is to make himself look good.

In fact, in his first month back as the still-uncrowned GM, he has already signed Vinny Curry, Zach Ertz and Lane Johnson to big new contracts, with Fletcher Cox nearing the biggest deal of all. Those four players represent the best draft decisions Roseman has made as GM, among countless other misfires.

Meanwhile, Sam Bradford has no connection to Roseman, who was in exile last year when Kelly traded Nick Foles (another Roseman favorite) and a second-round pick to get the oft-injured quarterback. Bradford is Kelly’s guy, and that affiliation will be a pivotal factor in the decision to let him go.

The most galling part of this already-insulting off-season has been the way Roseman weaseled his way back into power, conspiring with owner Jeffrey Lurie to orchestrate a charade over who would be running the personnel side of the organization after Kelly’s abrupt banishment. Roseman is in charge. We all know that now.

Last week, a far less docile Roseman than the puppy dog who appeared at the Doug Pederson news conference on Jan. 19 responded to the news that the team had suspended its search for a personnel guru by assuring everybody that he and Pittsburgh castoff Tom Donohue had it covered. Yeah, right.

The last clue in this puzzle over Sam Bradford – the defining one, really – was provided a few days ago by Pederson himself when he told Derrick Gunn of Comcast-Sportsnet: “There are some good quarterbacks in this draft. I’d love to be able to pick one up, develop him, and eventually he becomes your guy over time.”

Two weeks earlier, Pederson had called Bradford “a perfect fit” for his version of the West Coast offense and said he was “looking forward to working with him in the spring.” The Eagles aren’t about to commit up to $100 million for Bradford while the new coach is pining for a young guy he can groom.

So what happened in those 14 days that caused Pederson to back off Bradford so far? Could it be that he talked to the guy making the decisions, and was informed that there will be as few reminders of Chip Kelly on the 2016 roster as possible. Did Roseman tell Pederson to forget about Bradford?

Duh.

Call everyone you know and let them know that Sam Bradford will not be the Eagles quarterback in 2016. You’ll look like a genius a few weeks from now. I guarantee it.

First it’s Angelo Cataldi – guy lobbied against McNabb! How did that work out? Secondly, and more to the point: Don’t you think Howie’s job security is enhanced with a winning team? Let Bradford walk – pick up a career backup – then draft a kid who takes years to develop (if he ever does) = multiple losing seasons, angry fans, critical press and a new GM. On the other hand, if Howie signs Bradford, drafts and slowly develops a young QB, wins some games = job security and perhaps revenge on The evil Chipster!

“Multiple losing seasons” does not mean angry fans if the QB is developing. Do you think raiders and Jaguar fans are angry right now or excited?

They are excited right now because it looks like they’ve made decent choices at the most important position on the team.

They’ve got hope and excitement now even though their teams had losing seasons.

In fact, those 2 guys should shut the entire “Sam Hoyer is the best option” dead in its tracks.

Sam’s “great second half” crushed by 2 second year players.

I am being asked to consider some 7th year vet who is scraping out pathetic 19 td seasons is some sort of “best option” while these young guys eviscerate his numbers throwing a combined 67 touchdowns this year.

Seriously. second year guys humiliating this Ryan Bradford vet and we’re still on the “best option” kick???

You want angry fans?? Then roll out this shoulder slumped loser to a couple more 7-9 seasons and see waht happens.

Every single Eagle fan in the universe would gladly take 4-12 next year if Goff/Lynch/Wenz turns out to be the next Derek Carr or someone similar for the next 12 seasons.

I will not dispute your logic to the Bradford situation. My point is you can win with a mediocre Qb. I said sign Bradford because of all the quarterbacks out there, suck, he just happens to suck the least.I would rather spend # 13 on a defensive player that will make an impact. Personally, I would franchise him, draft Travone Boykin in the later rounds and start the grooming. Let Bradford walk after this year. I mean everybody on this site bashes Bradford (rightfully so) but no one has an alternative.I really don’t want Paxton Lynch. I was at the Temple game and he stunk. I do’t think Goff or Wench will be around at 13. I think what we should be writing about is What is the plan going forward.

Well one things for sure going into the draft with no QB and your fingers crossed sure isn’t a plan. What if there is no QB on the board? What if a team moves up? Then what? Or go into the draft and pick the remaining QB at 13 that you don’t even like. Great plan. Take a QB just to take one. Hell maybe even pass over a Bosa or Shaq Lawson just to reach for a QB.lol.First off why would Houston or any other team pay Bradford 20 million a year? Oh yeah they are stupid and the Eagles and their fans are the smartest 0 SB winning people in the room again. All Eagle fans have big mouths but no solutions. Hell just make it up as they go.

regardless of where anyone stands on the bradford issue– this is silly season, the media types like Cataldi have to generate content. Everyone reads the tea leaves differently. Gcobb loves it because people on here take a stand- post a lot, get hits…. i could care less as long as they have some sort of plan in place that can make them successful- if they think paying bradford $20 works for them go for it- if they think they can get a QB and not be ‘Ponderized’ go for it.

Sign him up. Watch him shrink from competition for one more year. Scrape our way to 9-7 and get annililated in his first playoff game when he throws 2 untimely ints.

Have the 17th pick heading into the 2017 draft and start this conversation all over again.

No really….I love debating how shitty/great Sam Hoyer is and am really looking forward to having the exact same conversation again next year about the guy.

ANd the year after that.

And the year after that.

And every year heś undercontract because every year with Sam FItzpatrick will end the exact same way….with him having missed time due to injury and a team hovering around .500.

Exciting.

Looking forward to some more excuses next year. Onwards and upwards! est option” indeed.

Ie said exacxtly what I would do about 50x, but I will spell it out slowly one more time.

Bradford = perpetual 8-8. Not good enough. The next HofF qb is in college right now.

Use your 4 former QBs and QB coaches to evaluate the rookie class and make a call. Either there is a guy you love that will be available or there isn.

If there is a QB you love and feel will be available:

1 – Sign a $4-5 million dollar QB to a 3 year deal. He´ĺl get you the same pathetic 19 td effort that you get with Sam FItzpatrick anyway, so why pay 15-20 for something you can get for 4-5??

2 – Draft QB at 13. Start the FA qb until expectations are lowered (IE team is under .500) and bring the kid in through the final 4-6 games and through following season. Make decision then to either continue with young QB or start process again.

3 – Take OT with early top 10 pick in 2017 draft.

OR – if you decide no QB is available in 2016 then:

1 – Sign some 4-5 million QB (or stick with Sanchez – who cares because you don want to win anyway.
2 – Draft best OT available at 13 this year.

LOSE

3 – take QB next year with top 5 pick.

Is this so difficult to understand??

These are the options and they boil down to 2 basic choices:

1 – Embrace the mediocrity that is Sam Hoyer.

2 – Find the next great QB that is in college right now – Either this year of next.

Vinny how about this. Those 4 former coaches that were QBs line up every FA and college QB and say they cant even wear Bradfords jock when we look at skill-set. We can coach Bradford up. Fuck the money. We did that before and saved money on Maclin and our WRs were the worst in the NFL. They may say the extra 10 million they will have to spend on Bradford is a better bet than hoping they get a QB in the draft. They can still select a QB at 13 or if Bradford sucks then they can do the same thing in 2017. Its not my money. Trust me Vinny the Eagles haven’t won a SB in 50 years the extra 10 million to Bradford isn’t going to change their fortune.

Draft a QB in the 3rd round and hand him the reins from day one & give him 16 starts. ( Hackenberg or Cardale Jones ). If he can’t succeed then the birds will be drafting first overall just like NFC Champion Carolina did with rookie QB Jimmy Clausen’s failure the year before the Panthers selected current league MVP Cam Newton 1st overall. If Hackenberg or Jones does succeed then the Eagles hit the jackpot and have a starting QB making under a million for 4 years. Win Win long term. Wasting time with Journeymen like Vick, Sanchez, Bradford or now Daniels is delaying that probable first overall draft pick inevitable process anyway. If the Eagles don’t start a rookie they better win this division with Howie. Second place was unacceptable for Gamble and Marynowitz and it will be unacceptable for a Roseman too.

Sam Bradford was good after returning from injury

When Chip Kelly traded for Sam Bradford in March of 2015, Bradford immediately polarized the fan base. His 2015 season did not change things. After a pre-season that had people thinking the Eagles were Super Bowl contenders, he got off to a miserable start. For the first seven weeks of the season, he was one of the worst QBs in the league. His season can be cleanly and conveniently split into two halves: the first seven weeks of the season prior to the Eagles Week 8 bye, and his last seven games after it. Proponents of Bradford have argued that in the second half of his season, Bradford improved to level that was worthy of a long-term contract extension, showing his potential as a “franchise QB”. Bradford did improve, but nowhere near that level when compared to other QB’s best seven game stretches of the 2015 season.

Bradford’s 68.2 completion percentage was 9th best, but he attempted the 11th most passes, for the 13th most yards, giving him a below average 19th in yards per attempt. His 10 TDs in seven games limited his passer rating to 97.0, which on the surface looks fine but in reality was worse than 20 other QB’s best seven game stretch. Compared to his peers over a similar sample, Bradford was mediocre at best.

Sam Bradford was hurt by drops

“Ah,” you might say, “but Bradford had a lot of drops.” Sam Bradford was certainly the victim of some terrible drops, but so is every QB. Per Pro Football Focus, Bradford had 41 drops in his 14 games. That was the highest percentage of dropped passes for any QB, which obviously made Bradford look worse than he really was. But how much worse? The average amount of drops a QB suffered was 30. If we gave Bradford 30 drops by adding 11 completions to his season, and gave him an average amount of yards (11.5) and touchdowns (0.05, we’ll be generous and give him another TD) per reception for those new found catches, it wouldn’t significantly move the needle.

Comp Att Yards Rank Y/A Rank TD Rank Rating Rank
Actual 346 532 3725 18th 7 25th 19 22nd 86.4 25th
Normalized 357 532 3852 16th 7.2 16th 20 20th 89.7 19th
With an average amount of drops, Sam Bradford was just an average quarterback.

Here is the problem with analysis based solely on statistics…of the top ten Quarterbacks this year (when considering stats) only one was in the superbowl and he came in ranked at number 9. Furthermore, guys like Tyrod Taylor, Kurt Cosins, and Alex Smith all ranked higher (statistically speaking) than either of the superbowl quarterbacks.

mhenski
mhenski
February 9, 2016 2:59 pm

of the 2 qbs in the superbowl one was the worst starting qb in the nfl this year and currently has a worse arm than most highschool qbs. just a senior citizen looking for one last hurrah

.the other qb was cam, the league mvp, the qb with probably the worst wr group in the nfl, the qb with the 2nd most tds thrown in the league and the most tds scored when you county rushing…

kirk balled the fuck out and was a major player this year

dunno the point of your post. but imo sam fails the stat test, the eye test, the resume test and the “has it” test.

Point I was making was simple. Stats alone don’t tell the whole story. Cam was the clear MVP but guys like Kirk Cousins, Tyrod Taylor and Alex Smith finished better than he did ….statistically speaking (and I’m talking about QBR not touchdowns). The fact that Cam was the MVP shows that.

Sam may have failed the eye test to you but not to me. And since both of our eyes are grossly under-qualified to make that kind of assessment then neither of us know what the hell we are talking about when it comes to Bradford – something the anti-Bradford faction refuses to admit.

That is why I have been preaching the franchise tag. Gives it another year to see what he has further removed from two consecutive ACL tears when the year prior to the two ACL tears he was having a probowl-esq season……….statistically speaking of course.

bugsyhawk
bugsyhawk
February 18, 2016 1:17 pm

QBR is the only stat that they were better than Cam and it is a flawed stat. He was probably superior in every other statistical category to those other QBs except for probably completion %. He was a monster this year statistically. Far and away better than those other QBs

McCoy is in Big Trouble. Video shows him punching a person while on the ground after another person just stomped that same person with a foot kick. Self defense is out the window since McCoy was clearly in no danger and is the aggressor.

I don’t understand why a large segment of our culture feel the need to fight as a group. When one member of the group has a beef with one member of another group then everyone has to jump in. To me that’s punk ass thug bullshit. And please don’t tell me “HAC you don’t understand…” I saw the evolution of high school fights over 30 years…. Two kids rarely fight anymore…. It’s a shame that the 0 tolerance policies and (American)cultural changes have lead to rapid escalation vs rapid dissipation. If one kid hits another kid and it’s over after a black eye is much better than a kid dead because a group stomped him/her.

I’m 37 and as a teen my father had to arrange a fair fight for me (long story) but I ran my mouth and a kid showed with like 20 dudes. My dad made me fight him 1:1. Situation was resolved no cops no hospitals no suspensions from school and no more problems for either of us for years through school.

Shady will get away with this. As cris carter said, travel with BOYZ who will take the fall for you (that statement is an entire course in the grad program mentioned above), he has enough$$$$ to take civil suits…. This incident costs shady maybe 1.5$ plus losing two game checks in suspension…. No biggie

McCoy in the wrong? I don’t know that. Werent these cops civilians and off duty? Who the fuck says they didn’t start all this shit. Maybe some charges should be brought up against them to go along with getting there assess kicked. I don’t know the details. All I know is a lot of cops off duty run there mouths and hide behind their badges and feel they can do what the fuck they want. I’m not saying Shady isn’t in the wrong but what I am saying is I guarantee you there is another side to the story and I would bet you that these cops tried to flex some (behind the badge) muscles and ran into the wrong group of guys.

Wow dag. Either you didn’t read the news and watch the videos or your just a savage asshole with no decency. You don’t stomp on people when they’re on the ground. I don’t care if they stole your wife you don’t do that. That’s assault and wrong. It’s one thing to fight someone like a man if a situation occurs and it’s a whole other thing to punch and stomp and possibly smash people with bottles while they’re on the ground.

The video clear as day shows someone on the floor getting pummeled by multiple people and shady running in from out of nowhere unprovoked at that point and get in his shots. Now you got people layed up in hospitals with significant injuries , their occupations are irrelevant. That’s felony assault.

This ain’t high school or the middle school playground this is real life grown ups trying to injure someone not teach them a lesson.

I have to agree with Mhenski here. Nothing good comes out of being at a place like that at 200am. The police officers could have challenged McCoy and his crew or it could have gone the other way. Fights happen, but stomping, punching a dude when he is on the ground is ridiculous. I don’t see how you can defend that.

First thing a defense attorney will do is find out how cops are making enough to order that champagne- dig into their files, etc– shady will get a slap on the wrist- maybe miss a game or two– doesn’t make him a decent human being.

Coming from someone that has wandered into Recess after a wedding one random night, I really have no idea what a guy like McCoy was doing there.

I was there all of 45 minutes and saw two pretty significant brawls. It is not exactly a luxurious center city club or a place where I would expect to see current and former NFL players.

This is a nightclub type of discrete , quiet ,after hours clubs at times, as well , A lot of low life types with money to burn in this old city club, Historical area , well patrolled and usually safe ,on the outside. But cops after hours like to drink. there ,and other hot spots, pick up top$$ honeys, the whole area is known for its historical sh–, but has always had semi seedy nightclub- after hours trouble spots, for as long as I can remember,Looks good on outside but lot of covert activity goes on there. Not too far from the Philly gayborhood, Where the trannys. body builders, steam rooms were very prevalent. Used to be a place where 9 out of 10 had big bulges on them, Not between their legs either.

I don’t get why the Magic accepted the deal? The only benefit I can see is they moved Tobias off the roster so Gordon and Hezonja can get more time at small forward. Jennings and Ilyasova are not very good players and both are getting starter money to be reserves plus neither are very durable.

Sixers seem relatively hush hush (as they usually are around this time of year then they make trades). But those two back end 1st rounders that the Sixers have appears to be very desirable especially for teams with no 1st rounders. They may have their highest value right now and maybe during the draft but in all honesty this is not a deep draft so I’d trade them both now

I like SF Grant better than Canaan and Stauskas going forward. I see a hole at SG on the Sixers that needs to be filled, especially defensively. Covington is a volume shooter that will eventually need to go to give those shots to high lottery draft picks. I don’t like Friars Dunn ( can’t shoot) or Kentucky’s Murray ( too slow) . I’m down to 2 players ( Simmons & Ingram). Haven’t seen the Croatian kid play yet. Jaylen Brown’s perimeter game scares me, If he can’t shoot outside he might never beat out Jerami Grant for minutes.

Huge holes everywhere except for the 4/5. PG- Ish Smith is servicable, but they could certainly upgrade. Other than that, they don’t have anyone that can consistently put the ball in the basket. I don’t give a crap about Saric and I am not counting on him turning into anything. So they need to fill up these spots and that is my worry. They keep getting assets, but they don’t have anything close to a team. Even if Embiid plays, they are still light years away from fielding a real team. They might just trade Noel or Okafor for my picks which does nothing for me anymore. Time to start filling holes

Agree they need talent. Ish Smith’s arrived unused and fresh like a bolt of lighting, his body has an expiration date. His body is not 82 games strong. He isn’t a 10 minute a game backup point guard, he is a short spurt full time starter. An injury filler worth 30 games a year.

JH reported this a loooong time ago.. that Okafor could be a trade piece and that the team may need to move on from him now for he struggles defensively among other issues but he is talented..

But in order for a trade to occur involving any of the bigs they’re gonna need a lot back in return. I mean aloot

Okafor has franchise changing potential but just may not be the best fit in Philly where they may already have a talented dominate Center in Embiid (who has ramped up his rehab as of late I’m hearing) possibly making Okafor somewhat expendable

I’d be surprised to see Noel moved and if he is they’d need some defense back in return. If he’s traded they don’t have another rim protector… You can find another one in the draft but maybe not someone that’s as athletic as Noel who is a rare 7′ freakish athlete

This deadline may be one that we’ll remember as the deadline that changed our franchise forever or the one that didn’t change much…

We will see by this same time Thursday 3pm est…

Okafor isn’t going anywhere. It would make zero sense. Sixers just don’t have a move to make for anyone significant. Assets are too young to cash them in now. Can’t move our pick or the lakers. Because ideally we get Simmons then are able to cash in on okafor or Noel next year. And we gotta hope that lakers pick ends up in the top 3 so we can use it hopefully next year on josh Jackson.

Sixers are set and in all likelihood getting a top 3 pick this year and potentially 2 top 3 picks next year along with saric and embiid. Nows not the time. We are arguably just over a year from turning the page on and transitioning from trust the process to coach up the talent. This is the time to stand pat.

im hoping they stand pat unless they make a small move and use that kings/okc/miami draft pick..

Agreed about Embiid. He is the wild card in all of this. We have to see what he can do before they can do anything and you are right about Okafor. Talent is there, but not sure that the work ethic is.

It all depends on the offer that they would get, but I just don’t want to see them trading these guys for more picks because then they are just repeating the process of collecting assets that never materialize into a team. If they are traded to get certain players in the draft then fine, but adding more picks just to add picks doesn’t do anything for me anymore.
