Report: Murray, Alonso and Mathews All on Trading Block

DeMarcoMurrayvsPats1It started out this morning with NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reporting that Eagles are “deep in talks” with the Miami Dolphins about cornerback Byron Maxwell.  Rapoport took things to another level just a moment ago on NFL Network when he reported that linebacker Kiko Alonso, and running backs DeMarco Murray and Ryan Mathews are also on the trading block.

This looks like “Operation Clean House”.  If this report is accurate, it seems that Howie Roseman and Doug Pederson are cleaning house of most of the players that former Eagles head coach and current San Francisco 49ers head coach Chip Kelly acquired.

Personally, I don’t think the Birds are going to be able to rid themselves of all those players and their contracts.

Reports have had Murray unhappy in Philly and heading back to Dallas with a restructured contract.  Bradford and Pederson have said there’s no tension or problem between Murray and the Eagles.  We’ll see what happens.

clearing up space to sign a corner or safety…can grab a couple of offensive guards…they can conceivably have up to $25 million in space…and go into the draft simply looking for the best available player instead of reaching..

Looks like it is Groundhog Day over and over.

When will Howie learn that you cannot build a successful team strictly through free agency. Did he not learn anything from the “Dream Team”? This is not Fantasy Football and they do not hand our rings for “winning the offseason”.

There is something to be said for continuity of a team. Building through the draft and making strategic FA signings, not wholesale turnover of the roster.

I hope that Schwartz is given the veto power on all moves with his defense, otherwise we will end up with a bunch of mismatched parts that looked good as an individual deal / move, but did not fit as part of a team.

huh? He just traded away a terrible FA pickup and a trade acquisition and then he locked up a bunch of the current players.

Seems like he is kinda doing what you are clamoring about.

remember this team was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay worse than their record last year. Chip destroyed the team and its future direction. time to fix it and howie in their doing BIG TINGS!

Chip gutted this team last year and we saw the results. Kelce stated that there was an issue with having too many new players all at once.

I agree that the Maxwell contract combined with his poor play made him a bad signing. Finding a team that would take him is a miracle, but from the moves already made and rumored to be made, there are a lot more players that Chip liked soon to be gone.

Howie appears bent on fixing every mistake in one off-season, and that leaves a team of strangers to try and learn how to play with each other. The teams that have a long history of success, the Steelers or Patriots or even one with less history like the Ravens will use Free Agency to fill strategic needs, not used to turn over large percentages of the team. These teams build through the draft and rely on strong personell and scouting departments.

I just feel like we have seen this movie before. Lots of moves in the off-season that end up having trouble fitting together as a team on the field.

No you haven;t seen this…at least not for a long while.

This is a long term build. They talked about playoffs, and all that, but their actions speak differently and more loudly.

Step 1: Lock up a bunch of young players long term. Again, is’t this exactly what you asked for….long term continuity. Cox will come up soon.

Step 2: Dismiss the “dead weight”. Accumulate draft picks. Build through the draft, with young players growing with the young players signed to long term deals.

Step 3: (most important) Draft a young QB to grow with the other young players signed.

Any “win now” talk is dumb. Eagles NEED two new guards. A new LT next year (at least). A DE an OLB a S and a corner better than Caroll and a top-flight QB before they can contend for a SB.

Period.

You don;t think Howie and the mgmt team don’t know that?

There is no Superbowl until all those things happen. Long term build. I like it.

And I forgot…in a couple days looks like they’re going to need a RB also.

This is a long-term rebuild.

You do realize that there were a number of “media idiots” that actually picked the Eagles to go to the SuperBowl last year after the end of pre-season. People put too much into flashy off season moves, instead of consistently building a team through the draft that is solid year after year.

As I stated a long time ago, Kelly was acquiring a team of mercenaries with no skin in the game. No allrcity, their teammates.

I hated it. Never works.

Now it appears that the Eagles have a much greater long term vision. They’re going to put this thing together for a playoff run (and hopefully multiple runs) that will begin in a couple years and hopefully one that will last a decade.

If they are looking to acquire draft picks sprinkled in with a couple key free agents, I can agree. One veteran offensive guard and safety would be the extent of major FA signings. Re-sign Carroll and a linebacker that Schwartz favors. I guess I just have too much memory of the “Dream Team” that anything that smells like a get rich quick scheme sets me off.

The Secondary & DB Coach’s are all Man Press. 1 on 1 Cover Guys..
Maxwell is a Zone CB and was a bad fit for the Eagles from Day 1 as some stated last off-Season

Watch for Eagles go hard after Man to Man Cover CB’s
Sean Smith of the Chiefs has to be one of their Top Target’s..
Do note that the Eagles future Def Secondary Coach in waiting,(Dino Vasso) was hired from the Chiefs and has worked with Sean Smith

All these trades on defense is all Jim swartz… We are getting tahir Whitehead and going for Sean Smith and George iiloka…..all our dbs will be 6 foot or higher who all can press, Sean Smith 6 4, George iiloka 6 4 jenkins 6 foot, and , Rowe 6 2 and possibly get carrol back and he’s 6 1

I agree with you Z44, Don’t forget about CB Leodis McKelvin who was a Cap Casualty by the Bills.. He will be the Slot CB at 5-10′ but has 4.39 Speed and can handle Kick-Offs/Punts since Josh Huff will be Unemployed…
Eagles will need to move quickly for the Ravens are high on McKelvin also

Come on big lion… The LLCB is gone… Embrace Howie! Make no mistake aside from sideways he is performing an exorcist of chip guys….
The plan… Draft a bunch, sideways and the core will compete, draft a bunch more …FA signings will be based as much on locker room fit (think Jenkins and barwin) than anything else… Chip preached culture then went out and got rotten eggs…

We need a press corner, I hope they have a plan and that its not just the ‘get rid of Chip’s guy’s plan…plus I’m not that sold on Kendricks…so we need another linebacker…

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Eagles are “finalizing” a trade that will send DeMarco Murray to the Titans when the NFL’s new league year opens on Wednesday afternoon.
NFL observers should be impressed with Eagles GM Howie Roseman, who in a matter of a few days will be unloading a big chunk of dead salary, and three players who were almost entirely ineffective in 2015. Kiko Alonso and Byron Maxwell are also headed out the door. Murray averaged 3.64 yards per carry last season, and his legs have appeared dead since the end of the 2014 campaign in Dallas, where Murray amassed nearly 500 all-purpose touches. In theory, Murray will give the Titans a bellcow back and provide an upgrade on Antonio Andrews. Like Murray, however, Andrews also finished last season with a 3.64 YPC average. Murray, of course, is far more skilled in the passing game.

Murray. That was the absolute worst signing of the Kelly era. (Koolidiot loved it of course)

500 carry back always fall off a cliff.

Howie is shedding the hired mercenaries as quickly as he can. I love it. Will be using the draft over the next couple of years to slowly build a long-term contending team.

This is going to be a slow, but hopefully successful process.

Koolbreeze said trading LeSean McCoy for Kiko was an excellent move as it allowed us to bring in Murray, and Mathews, so now we have two rb’s and a linebacker for LeSean…all excellent moves by Chip. The problem was that none of them could play….Mathews was more injury related. Terrible moves by Chip..all given the koolbreeze stamp of approval.

Wow ..tear away jerseys with Velcro numbers and nameplates on sale at the Linc…love the purge ..and Mario Williams will be coming to play under Schwartz where in 2014 he had 14.5 sacks ..this is getting very interesting ..here in Az it’s rumored they may have interest in cutting ties with Tony Jefferson ..the Eagles back end behind center and in centerfield might be totally revamped..the plan is ,obvious ,piss on chips blueprint and Bill Davis for that matter ,and revamp ,get younger and stockpile picks to try to wheel and deal on draft day..I was always cynical that M smith can really play ..Howies guy gets his chance and shows he was being fucked with the whole time …redemption ..
