Lunch Eagles Talk – Friday July 29

EaglesQB's-3Brian Billick, who won a Super Bowl with the  Baltimore Ravens feels Doug Pederson and the Birds have no choice but to play Carson Wentz.  He believes that you have to play a player, who you’ve given up so many picks and drafted so high.  Billick doesn’t think you have as much time now to start getting a return on your investment, so he believes Wentz should be starting for the Eagles.   Matt Lombardo of NJ.com gives us Bullick’s reasoning for playing a young quarterback like Wentz right away.

Eagles quarterbacks Sam Bradford, Chase Daniel and Wentz all had below par practices this morning according to Brandon Lee Gowton of BleedingGreenNation.com.  He said they were overthrowing receivers, and underthrowing receivers as well as throwing the ball behind their targets.  Hopefully things improve tomorrow when they put on the pads.

Unfortunately for the Eagles quarterbacks, Jimmy Kempski of PhillyVoice.com concurred with Gowton’s assessment that the quarterbacks all struggled today.  He said the quarterbacks were missing receivers and throwing balls out of bounds.

Doug Pederson plans on feeding veteran running back Darren Sproles the football this year.  The veteran signed a one-year extension yesterday. Mark Eckel of NJ.com gave a quick take of what Pederson has to say this morning after practice.

Pederson talked about how he plans on not lining Sproles up in the backfield all the time..  He talked about what he did last year with Chiefs star running back Jamaal Charles went down.  He utilized the other running backs and plans on doing some of the same things with Sproles.  Kempski of PhillyVoice gives us some of the speedy running back’s stats to justify Pederson’s plan.

Eagles running back Darren Sproles says he has two good years left.  Two of the team’s up and coming stars Jordan Matthews and Zach Ertz sung the praises of Sproles and why he definitely deserved the extension. Josh Paunil of PhillyMag.com gives you all of the background of the Sproles signing.

This has been a learning process for offensive coordinator Frank Reich, who was in a San Diego offense that loved to throw the ball down the field.  Now he’s in the West Coast offense and he’s learning the Doug Pederson version of it. CSNPhilly.com’s Michael Marcantonini also lets us know what Reich thinks of the personnel he’s coaching.
