In one of my two big leagues, I picked up Alex Smith on waivers, and I’m now considering starting him over Philip Rivers, who like Eddie Lacy before him, now has a difficult matchup against the dreaded Seattle Seahawks defense. Smith is matched up against the Denver Broncos, who have a pretty decent defense of their own, but are still much less intimidating than Seattle.
The Chiefs might now have great receivers, but at least I can trust good old Andy Reid to throw the ball 70 times, especially since he’ll spend most of that game chasing Manning and the Denver offense from behind.
QB1 Phillip Rivers
QB2 Russell Wilson
RB1 Eddie Lacy
RB2 Doug Martin
WR1 A.J. Green
WR2 Vincent Jackson
TE Brent Celek
FLEX Andre Ellington
K Matt Bryant
DEF/ST Cincinnati
Bench: QB Josh McCown, QB Alex Smith RB Shane Vereen,RB Danny Woodhead, WR Wes Welker, WR Anquan Boldin, WR Danny Amendola, WR Steve Smith, RB Justin Forsett
Wide Receiver Issues
In my second big league, I’m deciding who to play for my second flex. This league is standard scoring with no PPR.
QB1 Aaron Rodgers
QB2 Matt Stafford
RB1 LeVeon Bell
RB2 Doug Martin
WR1 Andre Johnson
WR2 Larry Fitzgerald
TE Vernon Davis
FLEX1 Chris Johnson
FLEX2 Keenan Allen
D/ST Seattle
K Robbie Gould
Bench: QB Carson Palmer, RB Stevan Ridley, RB Lamar Miller, WR Anquan Boldin, WR Brandin Cooks, WR Steve Smith, WR DeAndre Hopkins
I’ve got Chris Johnson locked in as my first flex, but now I’m deciding on the second. My top candidates are Keenan Allen, Anquan Boldin, Brandin Cooks, and Steve Smith.
Allen comes off of a disappointing performance against the Cardinals, and now faces the Seattle Seahawks. Boldin had a good showing against Dallas last week, and actually seemed to benefit from the 49ers having more depth at receiver, as defenses can’t focus all of their attention on him.
Cooks is the guy that I’m currently leaning towards right now. While not listed as a starter, he played a big role in the Saints’ win over Atlanta last week with seven grabs for 77 yards and a touchdown, and also took a carry for 18 yards.
Steve Smith, who plays tonight, is also a guy I’ve given some consideration to. He had 14 targets last week from Joe Flacco.
Sound off below, and post any scenarios of your own.
league 1 i would start vereen over doug martin without a doubt. martin is banged up, their o line looks like garbage and vereen is getting the majority of rb touches including redzone and goalline touches in NE…. at qb i would consider mccown as i dont like starting rivers and hate alex smith
I stay away from RB Doug Martin who just doesn’t have the explosion he had his Rookie Season and before his Injury.. He looks tentative and is running scared ever since and has been outplayed by RB Bobby Rainey.. I drop Martin all together right now
I’m going to use Vereen for sure…I just have to determine which of my other three backs is the least healthy going into Week 2. Lacy got in a full practice today, and sounds like he’ll be alright for the weekend…ellington didn’t participate at all, and Martin was limited, so we’ll see.
league 2
i have cooks and benjamin in my big league and am considering starting one of those 2 over emmanual sanders… problem with cooks is ur league 2 is not ppr and i see cooks as a beast in ppr and not so much in non ppr as brees probably looks at graham colston then rbs before cooks in the redzone. like welker cooks is more of an in between the 20s guy unless he catches a bomb
i cant really pick who u should play here but boldin against a swiss chitown d should be considering, id say i would lean allen to the bench then flip a coin between boldin and cooks with a lean to boldin as he is probably more likely to score
The only problem I’d have with going Boldin is that I’d basically have him competing for numbers with Vernon Davis…normally in fantasy, I like to avoid using multiple players from the same team if at all possible, sometimes it can’t be helped, but its just something I like to avoid…if Kaepernick were to implode on Sunday, I’d likely have two guys giving me nothing instead of just one.
That’s what happened to me last week with Doug Martin/Vincent Jackson in my first league…Tampa’s offense shutdown, and I got next nothing from two guys.
In another one of your leagues you should bench Brady for Palmer and bench Marshall for Cooper.
Just trying to help you out, lol
Hahaha…thanks, I’ll be sure to think long and hard about this one!
Definitely play WR Steve Smith who is going to have a major Season with a big chip to Prove that he can still play at a High Level.. He’s primed for a great Season and QB Flacco can use him as a steady Target..
Agree on Smith…the chip on his shoulder is a big one, and if nothing else he’ll see a high volume of targets every week.
Slow down on Smith……other then that one big play he had catches but very few yards and no other TD. T Smith will return to being the No 1 option there.
