Lurie, Banner And Reid Offer Departing Comments On McNabb

Now that Donovan McNabb has been traded the Eagles owner, president, general manager and head coach all have made statements about McNabb and his contribution to the Eagles.

“Donovan McNabb was more than a franchise quarterback for this team,” Eagles chairman Jeffrey Lurie said. “He truly embodied all of the attributes of a great quarterback and of a great person. He has been an excellent representative of this organization and the entire National Football League both on and off the field. I look forward to honoring him as one of the greatest Eagles of all time and hopefully see him enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton one day.”

Next up was team president Joe Banner:

“Donovan is the ultimate professional,” said. “He has an incredible work ethic and has been an integral part of our success. Over the years, Donovan has always carried himself with a great deal of dignity. He’s an excellent role model for young men and women from across the region. In my mind, he’ll always be remembered as one of the greatest Eagles of all time.”

Following Banner’s comments were comments from his head coach of all these years, Andy Reid:

“This was a very tough decision,” Reid said. “Donovan McNabb represented everything a football player could be during his 11 seasons in Philadelphia. He carried this organization to new heights and set a high standard of excellence both on and off the field. We thank him for everything he did for this football team and for this city.”

REALLY……. we get a second this year and maybe a third next year if he plays good, we get that for one of the top five QB in the league……what was wrong with the oakland trade? we shit on mcnabb his hole career and we cant do it one more time? atleast they should of tried making it a three way trade. i’m happy that mcnabb is happy i love the guy, but to a division rival for such a low price in my mind.

McNabb WAS a top 5 QB but is no longer even a top 10 QB. His prime is way past. This was a great move – the Redskins are paying a high price for what they are getting and the Eagles are ensuring that the redskins will not be good for another several years. I love this trade! Can’t wait to see the birds blitz McNabb as he throws the ball behind his receivers or into the dirt over and over.

Reid’s comment is interesting. “This was a very tough decision” … maybe because it wasn’t your decision, Andy? Did Jeff and Joe (and maybe Howie) push this on you?

Either way, who cares what these morons think anyway. I’m so done with this group of buffoons. I’m not unhappy they traded McNabb, but I am unhappy that these three twits are still here. We’ll never win a Super Bowl while The Three Stooges are running the team.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, McNabb was all that? You traded a HOF guy, the ultimate professional (their words) for a second rounder who could turn out to be another Matt McCoy and probably a lineman who can’t pass protect. It is frustating because we should have gotten more in return. How about trading for a new management team?

I do want to want to congratulate McNabb and wish him well.
He was the Best QB Stats wise ever to play for the Eagles and helped turned around the franchise and bring the Eagles from perennial losers to playoff competitive teams…
This getting traded to a Rival will only stoke McNabb competitive fiere and he’s will probably have a big year for the Skins in 2010, (if they get any play out of their Offensive Line at all, they will be a .500 team next season easily) and compete for NFC Titles the next few season with Shannahan
and a good defense already in place…

They better hit home runs with all their top draft picks. I am less concerned with McNabb over the long run, but to trade him within the division is so stupid and in other words, so Reid like. Which teams have traded within their division? Do Cowgirls trade with NY Midgets? NO. Do either of them trade with Foreskins. NO. I am tired of the ego and arrogance which is thoroughly undeserved.

Man ive always been a Reid and McNabb fan. But after this….Im Frickin mad there is no justifying sending him in the division. For the first time Reid took the business out of it and made a decision based on feelings. And it just made him a target for the rest of McNabb career in Washington. He better hope the defense is good cause if McNabb comes here and torches them he will be booed like you couldnt believe.

Reid says this is good for Donovan. Then he says Donovan would have gone anywhere. I don’t believe this bum. If McNabb would have gone anywhere, then they should have traded him to Raiders. We could have gotten more from them plus he wouldn’t be in the conference. This is so stupid.

This Move weakens the Redskins more than it strengthens them.

Kolb is ready that is what the team is saying. That gives us a young gun back there wanting to PROVE himself. The eagles also keep a very good pick 37th overall away from the skins. Don’t be surprised if this is used to get our starting center if 24 isn’t used on that. The skins would have been likely to get a good talent here. Also we have ammunition to trade up down or all around.

Now get vick out of here- Maybe for Namdi Asamuagh as the raiders likely want to unload that salary. We can always sign Garcia for 1 year.

Howie Roseman is excited about the trade. He stated the Eagles are not rebuilding and they still want to win the super Bowl in 2010. Custer was optimistic just before the Battle at Little Bighorn.

Kolb has shown enough to think he might develop into a really good starter. The point is to trade McNabb within the division is stupid. And McNabb will run for his life behind that awful Offensive line.

The truth is i dont know how good kolb is going to be? I will tell you logically if they donot fix that offensive line, dont care who they put back as QB. understand if your offense is based on timing, and radcliffe is blowing up your center and guard who is going to throw the ball accurately. the offensive line, play calling and the defense are the reasons the eagles lost in 2009 NOT MCNABB

April 4, 2010 9:37 pm

if you throw the ball, 50-60 times a game. You make your team one dimensional. If I am a defensive player i donot have to guess much. Now the other concern if you throw your QB in pass mode the whole game, you will set your QB up for injuries. like i said, i donot know what kolb is going to do next year but lets be for real, when jeff garcia ran the offense they ran the ball. The eagles refused to run the football to keep the defense off balanced. That is why if and when mcnabb goes anywhere else with a consistent run game they become immediate playoff contenders. People do you remember the redskins usually kill us with bad QB’s

Anderson silva is dead on….The Eagles throw the ball alot and they had the QB with the best TD to INT ratio in the history of the league. In enters Kolb who WILL throw 20 ints this year I promise you that. So Andy I hope you get some defensive players from where I dont know but you better.

Reid was saying the season is far away meaning this wont be the roster by then but where is he gonna get players that will be impact players this season? He also said this isnt rebuilding. Then why havent they improved there team at all this offseason.

They have weakin the team they have lost impact players.
Lets see how they have done so far.

No pass rusher yet
lost a elite CB
lost a Pro Bowl QB
lost best LB from last year
lost a difference maker RB
Added a hurt CB to play Saftey
Added the leagues worst yards per carrie RB
Added a WR they casted off last year

How is that not rebuilding?????????????????????????

And how can anyone say the Skins arent better? Shanahan is a great coach he has added 2 really good RBs and a Pro bowl QB. McNabb will throw 15 to 20 times a game. He will finally be able to have a play action pass. And there defense was the 10th ranked defense in the league. Skins will be with the Girls at the end of the season for the NFC East tittle.

So thank Andy Reid for allowing the Skins to go from ok to contenders.

We didn’t get a sniff of the Superbowl last season, not even close. How much worse could it be this year? At least we’re trying to retool, do something different. Reid, Mcnabb & the Eagles once had a lot of momentum. That’s been gone for a while now. They are trying to get that back. Does anyone really think Donovan is going to lead the Redskins to the Superbowl? Get real, everybody!

I’m just gettin off work and heard on sporting news radio that Nabb’s been traded to the Redskins. Runtheball that was very funny. I could see them all dressed up in clown suits with tiny violins and squeezable horn noses with big butterball sittin in da back seat lowridin the whole damn thing with sparks flyin til the wheels pop off! Ok Ok…After 5 years of reading everyone’s post and agreeing to disagree with everyone, I finally decided to log in. Nabby is no longer here and it kind of stings a little. He was a decent competitor besides his dirt balls, laughing and horsing around too much and never getting us that ultimate trophy, we at least knew that every year we were going to be in the post season trying to get the Trophy. Gone is Dawk, Westbrook, Brown and Lito (Yeah I said Lito.. During the championship years with us)The new era has started and we’ll see what kolb can do, though I do have a sort of strange feeling that Vick will be involved. Look, I’ll say it now and mark my words, If we still have vick by the beginning of the season and Kolb plays like garbage. Vick will be in. I know this may cause some reaction and not please some but it is a possibility. I really felt that Butterball had to go before donovan because his game mis-management sickens me and he really should of given Nabb these weapons years ago. Guess we have to all accept change. By the way, what happen to “keep #5”?

Here’s how I see it … I’ll be SHOCKED if the Redskins don’t finish with a better record than the Eagles this season, but I don’t think it matters and I don’t think it will really be because of McNabb (although he’ll certainly help).

The Eagles are CLEARLY rebuilding. Outside of Asante Samuel, DeSean, and Trent Cole, this team has a bunch of question marks at every position. They’re stacked with young, unproven guys that may or may not work out and they CERTAINLY won’t be ready to win as a team in 2010.

The redksins have to rebuild that O?Line first which Shanahan will do..
They added RT A Hicks (former Eagle), Guard W Montgomery and will draft LT R Okung with their 1st Round Pick. I would not be surprised if the bring in a F Adams or S Andrews to kick their tires and see
if they are still be able to play.. The Redksins are defeintely better and have a proven Heach Coach
and now a good QB… (j Campbell will now probably get traded to BIlls or Raiders for a 3rd/4th round and
take a potential team away for M Vick who now I believe will be with Eagles for the 2010 Seas on before becoming a free-agent after the 2010 season

This had to happen because the FO had worked themselves into a corner with (3) QB’s in the last year of their contracts. I would also agree that it was time to move-on from the McNabb era. He had a good run and may very well do great things in Washington, but he had run his course here.

I do not like trading within the division. While the ‘Skins still have an awful O-line and no recievers, with Shanahan and McNabb they are certainly going to be better this year. He is a smart coach and I fear that the Eagles attitude of being smarter than everyone else and bucking conventional wisdom about trading within the division doea not come back to haunt them for years. Yeah, the Patriots didn’t get hurt when they traded Bledsoe to the Bills, but the Bills really sucked and they had a terrible coach at the time.

I will wait to see how everything works out with the draft. If the birds package some picks to move up and address the lack of a defensive game-changer and then look at shoring up the O-line we can see how our younger players will produce.

It was time. Good bye 5, thanks for a good run, but it was time to go.

Based on Reid’s comments about Kolb and the fact that the Eagles made public that they were no longer making Vick available tells me that Reid doesn’t have that much confidence in Kolb and that he’ll be on a very short leash. Vick will probably end up as the starter by game 5 or 6, but it’s not going to make the Eagles that much better.
