Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News passes along some nuggets of info from Eagles QB Michael Vick, who arrived at Lehigh today after being cleared by the NFL in his birthday shooting. As you may or may not have guessed, there were some questions involving said shooting.
Vick said that he first found out that a shooting had taken place about “15-20 minutes” after it occurred and that he found out “from a friend.” He said he just wishes that he’d have listened to his mother and kept the party private, as opposed to opening it up to everyone and selling tickets.
When Vick had to tell Eagles head coach Andy Reid that someone was shot outside his birthday party? Ouch. Not good. He said it “wasn’t a pleasant conversation.” I’m going to guess that it wasn’t a pleasant conversation at the absolutely very least.
When NFL commissioner Roger Goodell stops by Eagles training camp next week, Vick says he’d like to sit down and talk to him. He spoke to him on the phone last week, but he wants to sit down with him and “look him in the eye.”
Overall, Vick knows that he’s on his “last chance” in the NFL. He seems to understand that the birthday party was a mistake. And after watching the PR program that is “The Michael Vick Project,” he does seem to understand a lot of his past mistakes at this point.
I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again. Vick does seem to learn lessons from his mistakes. But he really does learn them the hard way. He should be thankful that this last slip up didn’t cost him his spot in the NFL.
I’ve never seen/heard Vick as a phoney in any of his interviews since joining Eagles. He’s had to eat a lot of humble pie and he’s doing quite well, except for not listening to mom.
